Ok so I've been replying to a lot of comments here since this video was posted, and every time I get a new reply and come back, I can see that the like-dislike ratio is looking worse. So I wanna say something to the creators behind this channel. As someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community in a country where "hate crime" is not even a term as those are considered more of a "service for society" by most people here, I have to say that I really appreciate this video. It is incredibly important to talk about these topics openly. And you probably knew that the response wouldn't be the best and that you might even lose some subs, but you still decided to make this video and upload it. I think that says a lot about you as human beings. My respect for you and your work has grown even more because of this. Thank you.
I believe the Gender discussion has gone out of hand. At the gay pride in Washington last year, people were protesting because they felt excluded, while the gay pride fights for acceptence of the entire community. People come up with many genders, but keep making boxes for themselves, because they don't want to be put in a box, is counterproductive. Anyone should be able to be who they want to be and love who they want to love (as long as that person agrees).
TeamRCXD You have summed up my opinion perfectly. Labels are way too limiting. Gender and orientation are unique from person to person so there's no way that we could ever create a system that works for everyone.
TeamRCXD that's fine be who you want to be and love whatever consenting adult you want. The problem is transgender/gender nonconforming people dont exist in American society. Like it was stated in the video gender is a construct it's only meaning can come from what is made of it. In America we only identify 2 genders based purely on sex. So if you are a part of American society you can only be one of the genders. One's own gender identity means nothing if it defies the the the arbitrary limits we have on the construct.
This will quickly devolve into a comment war so before we get flooded by tumblerinnas and toxicity I'd just like to say that I don't care what you identify as, as long as you're a decent person you're fine by me Love you all
Hexilo Why does it matter? Ya gonna be dust some day, so will they. Enjoy your life instead of losing your mind over meaningless subjects like they would too.
Die Fledermaus I know. Even some GAY PEOPLE Still think we want a boyfriend and girlfriend at the same time or can't be loyal because of extra temptation
It's not sexualized for no reason, it's something men look at and find pleasure from. Men are different from women in sexual pleasure centers, as men are much more focused on the physical aspects of a woman biologically.
Robrot as an ace that is not at all what asexuality is. asexuality is a lack of sexual attraction to people. it's not a choice and asexuals can still fall in love. just because someone can't "get laid" doesn't mean that they don't have sexual attraction to other people
FNAFnerdBonnie no you're either a heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual person who has a preference to not be in love, plus may I ask how old are you? If you're like 10-16 you probably haven't found proper love, wait and decide later if you're "asexual" but it's fine to have preferences and not make up new genders right?
@@skyisherelol3492 Let me explain. A transwoman was never a man. Doctor, parents, family, society tell her that she is a man but no. She was always a woman. If she was given a choice she would never be called a man just because of a penis. You are not born *as* a man because of a penis. You are just born *with* a penis.
Christian Taylor ok so after your logic if my personality is actually my gender I could say that my personality is other from male or female and could make up my own gender. People who think that there are the 76 gender (there's a list online, google it) go after your logic. Like, there's the "mysterious gender" or the "small, dog-like gender" and much more garbage.
Hetro, Homo, Bi, and Ace seem to be the main 4 sexualities with other labels in between. But I'm confused. There's Adroromantic, which means attraction to masculinity. How is that a sexuality?? There's an orientation for every little feeling and a label for you to pick and choose which one you want like it's some fun club and it's making very confused
NeonMix, I know. There's a name for each little ting that is slightly different from the norm and is now being pushed into the LGBT+ community. I don't want say something that might invalidate these people because they might really be gay/trans etc. but mostly because I'll get called a bigot. I just don't understand how you can believe that no one can tell you that yo might be wrong because they're not feeling the same thing you're feeling, so they don't know anything and that makes it automatically correct. There are definitions to these things like being trans. It feels like political side had taken over to the point where we have a lot of people claiming or believing they are Queer or something from brainwashing. They then tell others exactly what LGBT+ is when they themselves aren't.
Dude sexuality and gender are fluid, confusing and complicated .I still don't fully understand it and I'm a very active member of the LGBTQ+ who does a lot of research, don't worry we'll eventually get there. :)
Black Willow, Yes I agree with you on that. I To me it seems that last of these are getting names for no reasons. I always thought these things were normal and now each small feeling that might be different is getting its own identity. I see your I just think people these days are getting way to caught up on labels.
Unfortunatly labels are how society functions, people are pressured into declaring I'm X or I'm Y, but the 'big' labels like gay or bisexual don't feel like they fit so people come up with ever more specialised labels, when in reality every single person experiences gender and sexuality in a different way, so there is no label that will ever fit everyone, except for 'human'. (and even then I feel there are some who aren't even that either)
About the question about attraction to masculinity, MY interpretation is that it doesn't really matter how you identify yourself, but if you seem more masculine than feminine they would be attracted to you. And if you're more feminine, despite your gender, then they wouldn't be attracted. I imagine it's something along those lines :'D (Then again, it's what comes to my mind when reading "attraction to masculinity", I'm in no ways an expert or something like that :'D )
I usually think that all of these things about gender are stupid and people are just Trying to get attention, but you guys have helped me better understand all of this but i still think this is a lot of information to go with how someone wants to live their life, i wish we could all just live peacefully and not care about the way in which someone wants to go about their life.
Kermits son You usually thought that all of these things about gender were stupid & people just trying to get attention? That's EXACTLY what's wrong with so many people. 1. I'm thankful that you're now enlightened. 2. There are still people who do that, so don't get me wrong, 3. But people shouldn't just lump the crazy extremists with every single person in that group.
Karl Batchelor His point is that we should lay off, and let people live their life. Trans people know who they are biologically, but would like to be identified differently. If that's how they want to live let them live! They are doing nothing to you!
KitKatKittens Yes well there's two main genders but there's other ones like asexual where you can basically clone yourself the one where you could change your gender like frogs and the other fucked up mutations ur XY chromosomes could go through, but humans only have male and female chromosomes even if they're fucked up you still are a male or female
Ryan Okubo They have more content on their website. They said this at the end of the video, but it's still something to look at. Psych2go is really good at what they do, although my pessimistic mind believes that some people viewing their LGBT videos might not have an open mind with this topic.
You explained this very well, but I believe the problem lies in the fact that there’s a lot of people who misuse the term gender, and use it more for describing personality rather than their sexual orientation. Also people who say they sexually identify as an inanimate object sort of ruin the whole concept of gender, because no one takes it serious and inanimate objects aren’t in anyway a sexuality. A similar argument can be made by sexually identifying as another animal, or something else that’s living, because for one it doesn’t make much sense, because it doesn’t seem right classify an animal group as a sexuality.
Wait, you also got it wrong. Gender isn't the sexual orientation of one people. It's the role they have in a society. How they feel masculine? Feminine? Both or none?
Plasticflowered ø well I didn’t know how to put it exactly, thank you for clarifying, but you also further prove my point in that if you feel masculine, feminine, both, neither, or something else, makes way more sense and can be taken way more seriously, but saying you feel like a toaster just makes you seem a bit crazy (which is off putting) because it actually does not make much if any sense
Brian Vaughn pretty much trolls and memes are taken seriously and I agree it is really annoying, considering that lgbtq+ just want respect and recognition
i'm a girl, i hate skirts, dresses, heels and long hair (on myself). i have short hair (i got jungkook's hairstyle from life goes on in the forest a few months ago), i wear jeans, sweatpants, hoodies, sneakers. i also like girls. and because of that, most strangers think i'm a boy. i used to take it a lot more personally, now i don't really care lmao
? Ok? At the end of the day you're still a girl tho. These people are saying that because you look like a boy you might as well identify as one (or some made up gender) and that's incredibly wrong.
There is a possibility that you are in fact not genderfluid. But it's really useless to fight about that. As a genderfluid person I can say being genderfluid at least to me, means you can be a man of culture as well as a woman of culture.
You say that gender is made up of gender identity and gender expression, but you don’t explain what ‘gender’ itself is. The term you’re defining cannot be included in its definition. I’d like to hear a more elaborate explanation on that.
Daniel Valcárcel Muñoz de León gender is the role that someone has in a society. It was made up so that people fit in icons rather than expressing themselves.
And most importantly, they don't actually argue why this is a social construct with a valid argument, they assume so,because of some made up preguidices and steoreotypes and this is just dumb,(for example) be a man as you want to be and as you feel to be,but you are just a man and not some demi-assault helicopter shit
Alright, I think I can do this. Gender is a form identification and expression, as was shown in the video, but I agree it was very broad and vague. But gender is very complicated. I believe gender is a form of identification that mixes or excludes masculine and feminine traits normally found either in biological make-up or in a society.
We don't "Invent" new genders/sexuality/etc. we just give them a name that they never have, because they were never recognized. You can say that all sparrow are sparrow, but when someone points that "This is a house sparrow, this is a wood sparrow, this is a song sparrow, and this is a White-throated sparrow", you should listen. There are no wrong in calling sparrow species by the wrong name, but when the sparrow correct you "No, i'm not a song sparrow, i'm a white-throated sparrow" you should listen to it. We may discover more sparrow species, and you have no right to say "More sparrow? why make it complicated? it's just sparrow". We dont make the rule. It just is different. but all together it's a sparrow. It's a bird and we are all birds, we're all the same.

It's really annoying how it's apparently okay for men to walk around shirtless but not women. The only difference is that one doesn't exceed how far the stomach sticks out and the other does. The stereotype on people's chests need to be gotten rid of, it can cause damage in so many ways.
I liked how the video tries to explain a complicated and nuanced topic in an approachable and non-judgemental way. One thing I would add is that not conforming to societal expectations of gender doesn’t mean that you must identify as non-binary or transgender (although it might). You may still identify with the gender you were assigned at birth (or you might not). I wanted to clarify this because there’s one part in the video where it sounded like the narrator was saying these people are by definition non-binary or transgender (e.g. a girl who likes action figures) and I’m pretty sure that wasn’t their intention. They also said that gender identity is how we identify and how we personally interpret our gender, which makes sense to me.
Im a psychology student and since i stoped with the humanists perspective to a more scientific one I realized that the fact that gender its just and only a matter of social construct is highly put into question once you enter into the world of sociobiology and evolutionary phsychology. Nature vs Nurture in a more holistic way and less idiological one I guess.
Jorge Don't you know what cultures are? And how can gender not be a social construct when it is actually something from social sciences and is indivisible dependend on culture?
Ninjaananas. I do know what cutlure is. Gender is built from a combination of biology and culture, not just biology and not just culture, someone who says the opposite is trying to sell you and idiology.
thank you!! im so tired of feeling the need to be pulled to one belief or another. this reminds me that i really can have my own opinion that varies from both sides and that i really dont need to side myself with anyone when i dont want to. so thank you
I am a straight white dude, former soldier. Pretty typical vision of someone who knows nothing about any of this, but it is really cool to know more and understand those around me better, ty for the education! It's obviously true that quite a lot can and has been said on these topics but it's nice to have a place to start
I wish you would have talked about the difference between Romantic Orientation (r.o) and Sexual Orientation (S.O) and how you can be panromantic but heterosexual.
Kawaii Taco I was thinking that also^^ but I’m sure they will make a video on that separately sense it can get a bit more complicated and might need more explaining^^
To clarify: Gender isn't necessarily "whatever you make it out to be", as that could be interpreted as people can identify as _anything._ What they mean is that there's male, female, and then there's the in between (or trans). Most people identify as either strictly male, or strictly female, but some people identify as trans, and there's nothing wrong with either of those things. But don't get your panties in a twist over it, it's not a big deal. If someone refers to you as the gender you don't identify with, then just politely and calmly ask them to call you by a different title. If you accidentally mistake someone's gender identity, and they politely ask for a different title, then be respectful and do as they ask. There's no need to be pushy about what you identify as, or what you think someone should be identified as. It would just make the world a slightly better place if we could all stop fretting over gender identity and move on to more important things.
The only thing I would mention is that bisexuals aren't just attracted to "the opposite and same genders" but rather bisexuals are attracted to multiple genders (which includes non-binary people) not just men and women. Great video otherwise though! I sent this to some family members who were curious to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community!
Bi means 2 tho. As in men and women, does'nt matter If they are this or that mentaly its an atraction of physical bodies. Everyone is attracted to people hovever
to sum it up: 1) sex is prenatal dna 2) transgenderism is egoist consumerist culture 3)orientation is preferences for what feels good currently (neurocircuitry, learned preference, conditioning, the whole shebang) imo
I’m a confusing mess... I want to buy a binder to hide my boobs cause I hate them and want to be a boy... but then idk how far I gotta go or something like that. It’s hard to explain
there are cheap once online! there are also binders disguised as normal sports bras so if your parents dont like the idea of you binding you can lie to them. i can send the link to ya also there are binder giveaways if you or your parents cant buy them
@@aster9809 cheap binders can sometimes be incredibly painful to wear and can cause more damage than getting a properly made binder from sites such as gc2b. If financially it's hard to purchase one there are giveaways like you've said that can offer them and sites such as mermaids who will be able to provide you with a properly made binder for free or minimal payment. Just wanted to clear this up because purchasing one is slightly better than buying one from sites like amazon or eBay because if sizes are wrong it can have very damaging effects. Hope this helps x
@@aster9809 that's okay! Not everyone knows about this kinda stuff but it is important to be aware of it so people don't hurt themselves. Besides, I don't know everything about binders either so dw :))
I learned something: the difference between gender and Sexual orientation, which are often incorrectly thought to be the same thing. However, gender and sexual orientation are two distinct aspects of our identity. Gender is personal (how we see ourselves), while sexual orientation is interpersonal (who we are physically, emotionally and/or romantically attracted to).
I define gender as either being born a male or female. Sexual orientation who you wanna f**k. How you see yourself is just self perception, and how you feel is just your feelings. I dont understand this idea that gender is separate from biological sex. If it's not decided by biological sex, then it's decided by how you feel, which changes all the time, and really becomes a meaningless term.
The issue we need to fight is actually GENDER STEREOTYPE ROLES!!. I can be male and love pink (i actually do) and its totally fine. I'm still male. Womanhood is a social construct, it changes in every culture the expectations of women. This is where people get confused. The similarities in gender/sex are due to the fact that biological females/males have traits that are common to them cross culturally because of pure biology. Female brain has specific traits, the same goes for males. Then society adds its expectations on us too. And if gender is a social construct why do you need to transition to feel accepted. Does a change of perspective and mind not enough? Or maybe leaving the place in which you dont feel comfortable in your skin to another place gender stereotypes are not that crazy. Or better being a part of this movement against gender stereotypes!!! Bcos I personally think when you transition society wins. The new transitioned you is still connected to what society expects a sex certain sex to behave. (I.e being able to use make-up now as a transwoman is still a social construct, who said only women can use that? Society! You are still living a according to the social construct!! And furthermore you also prove the point that sex and gender are intrisincally connected and not that separated as the preach it!! Since you feel transitioning would get you closer to your gender feelings!
USA schools may be failing sex ed standards but schools in my country don't even talk about sex. Hell, I'm 20 and my mother is yet to give me the sex talk! Even talking about sex is taboo here. If a girl loses her virginity before marriage it becomes a huge deal among the older generation in my country. So sex ed or lack of sex ed is not only a USA centric problem, it needed here too
People confuse this three? Sex is genitals Gender is how you feel and what pronouns u want people to use when they talk about u And orientation is who you want to love (To sum up i guess)
Sex and gender are same thing . People with a penis act like men and are masculine and use he/him People with a vulva act like women and are feminine and use she/her
What some of you "2 genders" people seem to forget is that not everyone is the same. Not everyone is like you. Not everyone feels comfortable with being male or female and simply RESPECTING WHAT THEY WANT TO BE CALLED would solve this whole issue. I don't care if you disagree, it's the other person's business, not YOURS to tell them who they are or what they should be. It's really immature tbh
To all the people trying to poke holes in the gender description: this is an informative video. Its giving a dumbed down, simplistic explanation of different genders. of course someone's personality traits don't dictate their gender... only the person themselves can dictate their gender. But for people looking for more information (and not an argument) this video provides a basic idea of how non binary people identify. If you're still confused, there are a ton of resources online in which actual non binary people describe their experiences. and if you actually listen instead of arguing over something you can never personally understand and probably know nothing about, perhaps you'll learn something.
people dont realize that personality characteristics =/= genders. just because youre a girl but youre into sports rather than the stereotypical dresses and pink clothing, that doesnt mean you identify as a boy, or identify as some made up gender. People are saying to respect these people and use the correct pronouns, but all that's doing is glorifying a mental illness. It's like calling someone who is anorexic "beautiful and healthy", but that just encourages their issue. The only exception i see with this are people who actually struggle with gender identity biologically(xxy chromosomes). I would just like to respectfully disagree with anyone who believes there are more to genders than boy and girl, and to anyone who thinks they can switch it up whenever they want; this is how I view it.
I'm a girl and I'm learning to cook because once you out of the High School doors, you realize that reality hit you harder than criminals, just saying.
This was surprisingly well done! Both Alex in the original writing, and Catherine with the video script, did an excellent job in presenting their findings. I just wish the sources to the actual psychological research was more readily available in both mediums.

3:18 "bisexual people are attracted to people of BOTH genders." Both: used to refer to two people or things. So you're confirming there are only two genders.
I think tjey were trying to say that bisexuals are only attracted to the male and female gender Pamsexuality also exists and it defines people who are attracted to humans, so they believe in multiple genders
Thank you for acknowledging the biology of sex and the variations that exist as well. A very loud minority are trying to claim that sex itself is a social construct. I think it is for political reasons because if you equate sex to gender then the interpretations of many laws will change. Personally, I'm open to people expressing themselves however they feel. Gay, bi... be free. Be trans. Be what you feel you want to be. Whatever is healthiest for you. God knows there are many non heterosexual people trying to fit themselves into the hetero box... and that isn't healthy. The things l would add: Children are a serious case we need to be careful with. They can believe they are many things - like Superman or a fairy - but leave that behind through development. The rush to chemically alter children is a concern to me. Not because l think being trans is wrong, but because adults can't be sure that what a child expresses is something that is transient or permanent. Apart from that, I'm all in favour of anyone doing what they feel is right for them, or at least pursuing it. Think about how committed you would need to feel to your gender to change your body, life style... tell family, friends and workmates... That takes real balls, no matter what sex or gender you are. - an actual biologist
The dose for cancer treatment with lupron or leuprorelin is 3.7 to 7.6 Transitioning or blocking puberty aka given to 12 year olds and recomended by "medical experts" is 11 to 20+ ml for children, many of them admit that they wish to "see where it goes" or "what happens" or "they don't know the side effects yet". Using a human to test something sounds quite familiar, hmmmm Mind you this drug has killed and made people insane from the pain at just a few shots, side effects are similar to long exposure to radiation, imagine giving it to children at 3-7 times the dosage an adult would take against cancer but for 6 years instead of half a year. The last guy who chucked down 4 pills is now in a coma.
i think that a lot of the things in this video were extremely solid and unbiased but i did notice that a couple times sex and gender were used interchangeably, after stating they are different. i’m not gonna get into my opinions but i do wanna see if y’all can make a future video like a part 2 that explains further to some younger kids who may be interested/ starting to find ideas that they can begin to ground their beliefs in. thanks!
I noticed that too... trying to educate people but can't even be consistent with their own terms/definitions. I'm honestly fed up with people trying to push their reality onto me when there is no truth, everything is relative apparently.
I'd be super surprised if there was another asexual lithromantic non-binary person in these comments. But hey, if you're any part of the LGBT+, I hope you're having a great day.

Gender is an amalgamation of several elements: chromosomes (those X’s and Y’s), anatomy (internal sex organs and external genitals), hormones (relative levels of testosterone and estrogen), psychology (self-defined gender identity), and culture (socially defined gender behaviors).
Sex, boy. Gender identity, boy. Outward gender, more on the feminine side. Gender expression, non-binary. Sexual orientation, heterosexual. Gender is complicated, but this video helped me alot.
Hi! I'd like to clear something up, 'Non binary' isn't a type of gender expression, it's an identity. I think what you meant was androgynous (laments terms: presenting as a mixture of masculinity and femininity, or, lack there of feminine and masculine qualities) P. s (I know it's been a year but hey, better late then never I guess)
I feel like the description of "sex" could be expanded upon a little- not only can physical characteristics betray genetic makeup, your genes aren't always strictly "xx" and "xy". There are several genetic disorders that result in "x", "xxy", "xxxy", so on and so forth. Here's a complete list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_chromosome_anomalies So the definition of "sex", even separated from gender, is not black-and-white. And this is hard biological science, not psychology. Hopefully this gives people a bit of context when considering the grey areas of self-identified gender.
I have a few things that I’d like to mention - Bisexual means “attracted to two genders”, they just so happen to be commonly male+female - I haven’t seen much of this, but it is possible for a nonbinary person (or enby) to be straight/gay, it’s just slightly different than the normal definition For example, I identify as homoromantic (gay). But for me, it’s different than the normal definition. Instead of being attracted to males or females, I’m attracted to other enbies And, let’s say you’re nonbinary, but you feel more masculine/feminine. You could use the labels “nonbinary gay/lesbian” or “nonbinary straight” - Orientation is split into two categories: sexual, and romantic Sexual, sometimes referred to as sexuality, refers to something that is physical. You’re attracted to people who have a certain body, you want to have sex with them, etc. Romantic, refers to emotions/feelings. You’re attracted to a certain personality, you want someone that makes you feel a certain way, etc. Sexuality, and romantic orientation, are completely separate from each other, most people just so happen to usually have them “match” For example, I’m asexual homoromantic. Someone else can be bisexual homoromantic, etc. - Similar to bisexual, bigender means “feeling like you’re two genders”, people just usually feel male/female. For example, I’m bigender. However, I’m agender/demimale, not female/male - When referring to gender and sexual/romantic orientation, there’s a “demi”. However, it has a different meaning for the two Demigender means “not fully”. As in, you don’t fully identify as a gender (usually male ir female). Like, I mentioned in a previous point, that I’m demimale (along with agender). This means that I don’t fully identify as a male Demisexual/demiromantic means “not immediately”. As in, you feel a sexual/romantic attraction to someone, after a connection with them is formed. For example, I’m demiromantic. While I “can” think someone is cute, I don’t start developing romantic feelings for them, until after we’ve made a connection - There’s also QPP/QPR (aka “queer platonic pal”/“queer platonic relationship”), but I believe it has different means for each individual
The absurd thing is when it comes to sports, people consider the gender of the participant. It should be obvious to anyone that sports are separated not by gender but by biological sex.
❌️ Trans men (biological females) have even more of an advantage over cis women. That's what testosterone does (this is assuming that's their transition journey, so maybe not)
I'm a biological male, but all my life I've had this particular fixation on femininity. And within the last year and a half, having freed myself from the residual effects of a brainwashed childhood, I've started taking up crossdressing and exploring my feminine side more thoroughly. Maybe I fall somewhere on the spectrum? I'm not sure. I'm hesitant to make any conclusive statements here as I know so little about modern ideas of gender identity and have only just recently started learning things about myself that I never even realized.
You're still male. Your personality just gravitated to this because that's the activities you like to partake in. This gender thing is nonsense. Activities you partake in do not make you a woman. Enjoy your crossdressing and dont let people make you feel bad about it.
I’m probably an intersex. And I used to be Transgender.... I’m a 14-15 year old boy And I’ve always had a feminine personality. I’m definitely not your typical rough boy. And when I was younger I would ask my mom if I was girl because that’s just how I Felt.... I felt way to much like a girl than a boy. It’s also the reason why I’ve always been Able to socialise with the opposite gender more than my own. Now, I’m not gay, but People stereotype me as gay because I have a feminine personality, and it annoys me Because, a tomboy isn’t always stereotyped as lesbian, but when u get a guy doing Girly things he is considered gay. Now I’m not hating on gay but it’s kinda frustrating When people always stereotype u the first time u meet them. But I’m happy that I’m A boy, I wouldn’t change myself for the world, but I still do keep in contact with my feminine Side and that’s just who I am. 😁 Thx for the vid :)
Thats what lgbt said to me all the time "oh homosexuality and bisexuality goes under gender", "oh gender is q social construct and you learn your gender from someone around you"
There’s three SEXES. THE PARTS BETWEEN YOUR LEGS. (Intersex) Multiple gender IDENTITIES. HOW YOU FEEL. NOT THE SAME THING AS SEX. Multiple gender EXPRESSIONS. HOW YOU CHOOSE TO EXPRESS YOUR GENDER IDENTITY. And Multiple orientations for these things.
I want to start a serious discussion here, what's wrong with identifying people based solely on their sex parts (intersex included too) and letting identity/expression/orientation be their own separate entity. I see a lot of hate with identifying people as male or female and I don't see the problem with it. I understand people have identity issues and denying them their identity can be detrimental to their mental and physical health, but I wouldn't think it would be offensive if we just treated sex as a separate thing like hair color or height and allow people to identify and express however they like. Also thank you for not turning you're comments off because I've never been able to have this kind of discussion before. I'm here to learn and grow.
Just a reflection about if orientation is "which gender we like". Would that mean that if a girl has gender boy, and boy has gender boy, and they like each other - they are gay?
thid is probably the first video I've seen on the matter. It was a lot of time ago, but I've figured out I'm bisexual and agender. So, thank you. This kind of information is always valuable.
Thank you for educating people on it. So many people arent educated on this and what's even worse is that many people ( for example older generations, parents, grandparents....) are really close minded about this and very conservative. They always say that "intersex doesnt exist " or "people are just sick in head and none of this is real and world has gone crazy". And it seriously makes me feel so sad and angry at in my case my parents. But I've come to a conclution that no matter what I say they'll just start calling me crazy so it's just waste of time. But I'm still really happy there are still videos on this topic and there are still people who care to explain. Thank you for your videos💖🌈🏳️🌈
Being “Feminine” or “ Masculine” should have nothing to do with your sex. They are just stereotypical roles society has gotten used to labeling things with. We shouldn’t even call behaviors feminine or masculine. Being a male is masculine and being a female is feminine. Your personality just makes you who you are. You don’t have to be a female to be emotional and passive and you don’t have to be a male to be aggressive, logical, and dominant. Calling behaviors, objects, ideas, etc feminine or masculine confuses people because it makes them think it’s weird to do those things if it doesn’t match their sex.
Joel Fairchild Underwood yes but not as much as people make it out to be. Humans are the only species that judges each other. Every other animal just acts like itself. You can barley tell the difference between a female and male dog for example besides biological features.
Wow, thank you SO MUCH for creating this! Society is STILL so ignorant on this topic and we need more straight-forward and simple explanations like this circulating on the internet. I live in NYC and even though this is a very open-minded city people by and large still expect that because I am a transgendered woman that I must want a female body and that "transitioning" always means taking hormones and getting surgery. I still have to educate my friends and acquaintances that my gender has NOTHING to do with my body and is simply a result of where I fall on the feminine to masculine scale in regards to my personality. Therefore, my pronoun preference also reflects my position on that scale. I am patient because I know they love me and it's simply because they have been taught otherwise and there is much confusion out there around this topic. Thank you again for cutting through the confusion with this content.

Gender and sex are one and the same, and we've known that for a long time now. It's the very reason the roles we're expected to play based solely on our biological sex are called "gender roles" to begin with.
No they are not. Gender is free to choose, and is a social construct. However, sex is completely biological and is determined by what you are born with. There are of course few examples of being born with the genitalia of both sexes. But they are extremely rare cases. Trans people who have undergone the surgery CAN be counted as having changed their sex completely, but their original sex may still remain in some way. But you can legally change your sex, even without the surgery. Still though, there are only two sexes, and people born with both just have both of them. And you may bring up the argument with animals who can change their sex like frogs, or asexually reproducing animals. But they are not humans. Us humans aren’t able to reproduce asexually (yet), and changing your sex is just a change to the other sex.
@@penguinstrophe "No they are not." They are indeed the same, yes. And I gave an example as to how we know they're the same. Furthermore, those who argue that gender is something different from sex are never able to make sense of their worldview from there. Let's take a look at the rest of your comment. "Gender is free to choose, and is a social construct." In what sense are you "choosing your gender"? Can you give me the difference between a man and a woman? "Trans people who have undergone the surgery CAN be counted as having changed their sex completely, but their original sex may still remain in some way." This translates to, they can never actually change their sex but we can pretend they did. "But you can legally change your sex, even without the surgery. Still though, there are only two sexes, and people born with both just have both of them." No one is born "with both sexes". Even those who are born with both external genitalia are either male or female, due to how their overall bodies developed (including internal sex organs).
@@Vic2point0 I forgot to mention those with born with both female and male reproductive organs are intersex. What features are present can vary. It can get quite complicated when it comes to deciding what sex an intersex person may be, however you may be right about that the more prevalent side decides the person’s sex. Though I can’t find much about “male” or “female” intersex, going to have to look at it more. “This translates to, they can never actually change their sex but we can pretend they did” I worded it a bit wrong. Don’t know what exactly where I was trying to go with “original sex” so we can just scrap that I said it. Anyways, undergoing the sex change surgery and all of that does legally change your sex. However, according to transcare, under US federal law (and likely other countries) a surgery is not required to change legal sex. A medical professional must certify that the patient has undergone “necessary” medical or psychological treatment for transition. In some jurisdictions a sex IS required to change legal sex, so it is not an always. “In what sense are you “choosing your gender”?” Gender dysphoria is when an individual is uncomfortable with the mismatch they feel with their sex and gender identity. Gender identity is one’s personal sense of gender. I do not have an issue with it myself but I will put it in a way for you to understand. Think of it like the first time you heard your voice recorded. You may have felt surprised or embarrassed because it sounds totally different from what you thought it sounded like to others. Gender dysphoria and gender identity can be compared to this. One’s gender identity can be compared to their perception of their own voice, and with gender dysphoria it is like being uncomfortable with their actual voice. They would feel like that voice isn’t theirs, and don’t want to live with that. And they want to then change it, and in this case, identify as a different gender. Gender identity is what gender a person feels most comfortable with being perceived as, and it is different from sex. Sex is the BIOLOGICAL categorization. It is dependent on if you have an X and Y chromosome, or if you have two Y chromosomes. We don’t have to speak about intersex anymore, as it gets quite complicated the deeper we get into it. Oh yeah, most dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary, desperate sex from gender. The world health organization does the same. “The state of being male or female as expressed by social or cultural distinctions and differences, rather than biological ones.” Are you really gonna argue with the most trusted dictionary in the world? Oh yeah, I don’t really understand what side you are on, wether you support trans people or not, so I don’t know exactly from what angle to respond to you.
@@penguinstrophe “Anyways, undergoing the sex change surgery and all of that does legally change your sex. However, according to transcare, under US federal law (and likely other countries) a surgery is not required to change legal sex." It's not possible to change your sex (aka gender). The law can say whatever it wants, it doesn't change reality. Same for any "gender expert" in the medical field who cannot even provide an objective, workable definition for "gender" to begin with. ME: “In what sense are you “choosing your gender”?” YOU: "Gender dysphoria is when an individual is uncomfortable with the mismatch they feel with their sex and gender identity. Gender identity is one’s personal sense of gender." The problem here is that no one can say for sure what gender they are "sensing" or "feeling like", as we've no basis for that comparison. We've all only been just the one gender, so we'd have no way of knowing the difference between "feeling like" a man vs. "feeling like" a woman, or indeed if such a difference exists at all. "Think of it like the first time you heard your voice recorded. You may have felt surprised or embarrassed because it sounds totally different from what you thought it sounded like to others. Gender dysphoria and gender identity can be compared to this." Being unhappy with either (your voice or your gender) doesn't issue in the conclusion that your voice/gender should be different, and especially that you should undergo sometimes irreversible "treatments" to "fix" it. "Gender identity is what gender a person feels most comfortable with being perceived as" What is "gender" then? And remember, you're saying it's something different from sex. So an adult human male can't say he's more comfortable with being perceived as an adult human female if sex and gender are different. "Oh yeah, most dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary, desperate sex from gender. The world health organization does the same." And all of them fail in making sense of this worldview as well. Oftentimes, they confuse gender itself with gender roles and norms. Speaking of which... "“The state of being male or female as expressed by social or cultural distinctions and differences, rather than biological ones.” Are you really gonna argue with the most trusted dictionary in the world?" Trust implies trustworthiness. Once something is no longer worthy of trust, that trust shouldn't be given. "Oh yeah, I don’t really understand what side you are on, wether you support trans people or not, so I don’t know exactly from what angle to respond to you." I support trans people fully abandoning their worldview for something more coherent.
Historically, Gender and Sex meant the same thing to most people. Changing word definitions is a major cause of pushback on this. If you say gender and they think your talking about sex you will think each other is stupid.
Thank you.

Yes! 🙌🏼🌈 don’t worry about those haters. 😉
Yes, but creating some kind of definition helps some people understand what pronouns to use and how to approach a person

It's not sexualized for no reason, it's something men look at and find pleasure from. Men are different from women in sexual pleasure centers, as men are much more focused on the physical aspects of a woman biologically.
I think it’s because having breasts is a sign that a woman can give birth to a child or that she’s gone through puberty.

FNAFnerdBonnie they did
asexuality is people who cant get laid and realized that, good for them
Robrot as an ace that is not at all what asexuality is. asexuality is a lack of sexual attraction to people. it's not a choice and asexuals can still fall in love. just because someone can't "get laid" doesn't mean that they don't have sexual attraction to other people
Yess please

Dude sexuality and gender are fluid, confusing and complicated
.I still don't fully understand it and I'm a very active member of the LGBTQ+ who does a lot of research, don't worry we'll eventually get there.

2. There are still people who do that, so don't get me wrong,
3. But people shouldn't just lump the crazy extremists with every single person in that group.
Karl Batchelor His point is that we should lay off, and let people live their life. Trans people know who they are biologically, but would like to be identified differently. If that's how they want to live let them live! They are doing nothing to you!
Karl Batchelor... Say what?! Maybe try a different language, and add some punctuation!
It is very sad that so much of our nation's youth are misguided about these topics. Thanks for shedding some light on the topic as always.
Ironic because this video is made from a misinterpretation of the subject matter, not the truth.
But there are multiple ways of analyzing it.
Please don't start a war in the comments. I was merely stating my opinion on the matter and complementing the channel.
Nathan Olson it is sad people don't know basic biology like you
KitKatKittens Yes well there's two main genders but there's other ones like asexual where you can basically clone yourself the one where you could change your gender like frogs and the other fucked up mutations ur XY chromosomes could go through, but humans only have male and female chromosomes even if they're fucked up you still are a male or female
Very informational, but these topics have too many facets to effectively possibly cover it all.
Defintely. Psych2go is more of a crash course kind of channel, but I won't be surprised if they expand on these topics in other videos.
Charlie Evangelista I hope so, I like their content
Ryan Okubo They have more content on their website. They said this at the end of the video, but it's still something to look at. Psych2go is really good at what they do, although my pessimistic mind believes that some people viewing their LGBT videos might not have an open mind with this topic.
Charlie Evangelista that is understandable, I am also very skeptical, but about everything
Ryan Okubo Honestly? Better to be skeptical about everything as long as you keep an open mind, which most skeptical people do. Most, haha.

Human Qrystal I'm really bad at explaining things. So here's a link en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_construction_of_gender

Pan sexuals aren't usually mentioned at all. Thanks for not forgetting us!
YES YES YES I've researched a lot on that, you're right!

Don't you know what cultures are?
And how can gender not be a social construct when it is actually something from social sciences and is indivisible dependend on culture?
Ninjaananas. I do know what cutlure is. Gender is built from a combination of biology and culture, not just biology and not just culture, someone who says the opposite is trying to sell you and idiology.

Congrats! Welcome to the nonbinary community! (By nonbinary I mean every gender outside of girl and boy)
congrats! i'm born female and genderfluid too
To clarify: Gender isn't necessarily "whatever you make it out to be", as that could be interpreted as people can identify as _anything._ What they mean is that there's male, female, and then there's the in between (or trans).
For everyone: You are loved and worthy regardless of gender and sexuality. ❤️🌈

Bi means 2 tho. As in men and women, does'nt matter If they are this or that mentaly its an atraction of physical bodies. Everyone is attracted to people hovever

3)orientation is preferences for what feels good currently (neurocircuitry, learned preference, conditioning, the whole shebang)

I learned something:
the difference between gender and Sexual orientation, which are often incorrectly thought to be the same thing. However, gender and sexual orientation
are two distinct aspects of our identity. Gender is personal (how we
see ourselves), while sexual orientation is interpersonal (who we are
physically, emotionally and/or romantically attracted to).

Sex is genitals
Gender is how you feel and what pronouns u want people to use when they talk about u
And orientation is who you want to love
(To sum up i guess)
John Money agrees, and he loves children, alot, very much, touches them even
Sex and gender are same thing .
People with a penis act like men and are masculine and use he/him
People with a vulva act like women and are feminine and use she/her
What some of you "2 genders" people seem to forget is that not everyone is the same.
Your comment is very nice and not idiotic! I'm happy that your trying to tell people that not everyone is the same
What you seem to forget is belief does'nt beat reality, look up John Money and not your sosialy constructed cock

3:18 "bisexual people are attracted to people of BOTH genders."
Both: used to refer to two people or things.
So you're confirming there are only two genders.
Good catch!
I think tjey were trying to say that bisexuals are only attracted to the male and female gender
Pamsexuality also exists and it defines people who are attracted to humans, so they believe in multiple genders
I'm a non-binary, gender neutral, asexual, transforming-homoerotic lesbian with homosexual tendencies... I'm also a homeopathic doctor.
The things l would add:
Children are a serious case we need to be careful with.

Using a human to test something sounds quite familiar, hmmmm
Mind you this drug has killed and made people insane from the pain at just a few shots, side effects are similar to long exposure to radiation, imagine giving it to children at 3-7 times the dosage an adult would take against cancer but for 6 years instead of half a year. Gender is an amalgamation
of several elements: chromosomes (those X’s and Y’s), anatomy (internal
sex organs and external genitals), hormones (relative levels of
testosterone and estrogen), psychology (self-defined gender identity),
and culture (socially defined gender behaviors).
Sex, boy. Gender identity, boy. Outward gender, more on the feminine side. Gender expression, non-binary. Sexual orientation, heterosexual.
Gender is complicated, but this video helped me alot.
Hi! I'd like to clear something up, 'Non binary' isn't a type of gender expression, it's an identity. I think what you meant was androgynous (laments terms: presenting as a mixture of masculinity and femininity, or, lack there of feminine and masculine qualities)
P. s (I know it's been a year but hey, better late then never I guess)
John Money will clear it up for you, in fact he discovered it
I feel like the description of "sex" could be expanded upon a little- not only can physical characteristics betray genetic makeup, your genes aren't always strictly "xx" and "xy". There are several genetic disorders that result in "x", "xxy", "xxxy", so on and so forth. Here's a complete list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_chromosome_anomalies
So the definition of "sex", even separated from gender, is not black-and-white. And this is hard biological science, not psychology.
Hopefully this gives people a bit of context when considering the grey areas of self-identified gender.
I have a few things that I’d like to mention
- Bisexual means “attracted to two genders”, they just so happen to be commonly male+female
- I haven’t seen much of this, but it is possible for a nonbinary person (or enby) to be straight/gay, it’s just slightly different than the normal definition
For example, I identify as homoromantic (gay). But for me, it’s different than the normal definition. Instead of being attracted to males or females, I’m attracted to other enbies
And, let’s say you’re nonbinary, but you feel more masculine/feminine. You could use the labels “nonbinary gay/lesbian” or “nonbinary straight”
- Orientation is split into two categories: sexual, and romantic
Sexual, sometimes referred to as sexuality, refers to something that is physical. You’re attracted to people who have a certain body, you want to have sex with them, etc.
Romantic, refers to emotions/feelings. You’re attracted to a certain personality, you want someone that makes you feel a certain way, etc.
Sexuality, and romantic orientation, are completely separate from each other, most people just so happen to usually have them “match”
For example, I’m asexual homoromantic. Someone else can be bisexual homoromantic, etc.
- Similar to bisexual, bigender means “feeling like you’re two genders”, people just usually feel male/female. For example, I’m bigender. However, I’m agender/demimale, not female/male
- When referring to gender and sexual/romantic orientation, there’s a “demi”. However, it has a different meaning for the two
Demigender means “not fully”. As in, you don’t fully identify as a gender (usually male ir female). Like, I mentioned in a previous point, that I’m demimale (along with agender). This means that I don’t fully identify as a male
Demisexual/demiromantic means “not immediately”. As in, you feel a sexual/romantic attraction to someone, after a connection with them is formed. For example, I’m demiromantic. While I “can” think someone is cute, I don’t start developing romantic feelings for them, until after we’ve made a connection
- There’s also QPP/QPR (aka “queer platonic pal”/“queer platonic relationship”), but I believe it has different means for each individual
Basic facts told in this video...ignorant dislikers shall open up their minds
Basic facts like sex = gender and feelings wont warp that
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH GUYSSSSSS!!!
Not for long.
No thanks, i don't need a birthday party for my sexuality
The absurd thing is when it comes to sports, people consider the gender of the participant. It should be obvious to anyone that sports are separated not by gender but by biological sex.

Trans men (biological females) have even more of an advantage over cis women.

Congratulations Alexander thanks for reminding me of that
Not fully correct. There are more than two sexes. Sex is dependent mostly on chromosomes and there are more than two combinations for humans.
Pilots that Panic! - No problem :)
Edit: I just realized that I think I read your comment wrong. My apologies.

Female and male brains are physically different look it up.

@@penguinstrophe "No they are not."
They are indeed the same, yes. And I gave an example as to how we know they're the same. Furthermore, those who argue that gender is something different from sex are never able to make sense of their worldview from there. Let's take a look at the rest of your comment.
"Gender is free to choose, and is a social construct."
In what sense are you "choosing your gender"? Can you give me the difference between a man and a woman?
"Trans people who have undergone the surgery CAN be counted as having changed their sex completely, but their original sex may still remain in some way."
This translates to, they can never actually change their sex but we can pretend they did.
"But you can legally change your sex, even without the surgery. Still though, there are only two sexes, and people born with both just have both of them."
No one is born "with both sexes".
“This translates to, they can never actually change their sex but we can pretend they did”
I worded it a bit wrong.
“In what sense are you “choosing your gender”?”
Gender dysphoria is when an individual is uncomfortable with the mismatch they feel with their sex and gender identity.
“The state of being male or female as expressed by social or cultural distinctions and differences, rather than biological ones.”
Are you really gonna argue with the most trusted dictionary in the world?
Oh yeah, I don’t really understand what side you are on, wether you support trans people or not, so I don’t know exactly from what angle to respond to you.
@@penguinstrophe “Anyways, undergoing the sex change surgery and all of that does legally change your sex. However, according to transcare, under US federal law (and likely other countries) a surgery is not required to change legal sex."
It's not possible to change your sex (aka gender). The law can say whatever it wants, it doesn't change reality. Same for any "gender expert" in the medical field who cannot even provide an objective, workable definition for "gender" to begin with.
ME: “In what sense are you “choosing your gender”?”
YOU: "Gender dysphoria is when an individual is uncomfortable with the mismatch they feel with their sex and gender identity. Gender identity is one’s personal sense of gender."
The problem here is that no one can say for sure what gender they are "sensing" or "feeling like", as we've no basis for that comparison.
Gender dysphoria and gender identity can be compared to this."
Being unhappy with either (your voice or your gender) doesn't issue in the conclusion that your voice/gender should be different, and especially that you should undergo sometimes irreversible "treatments" to "fix" it.
"Gender identity is what gender a person feels most comfortable with being perceived as"
What is "gender" then? And remember, you're saying it's something different from sex. So an adult human male can't say he's more comfortable with being perceived as an adult human female if sex and gender are different.
"Oh yeah, most dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary, desperate sex from gender. The world health organization does the same."
And all of them fail in making sense of this worldview as well. Oftentimes, they confuse gender itself with gender roles and norms. Speaking of which...
"“The state of being male or female as expressed by social or cultural distinctions and differences, rather than biological ones.”
Are you really gonna argue with the most trusted dictionary in the world?"
Trust implies trustworthiness. Once something is no longer worthy of trust, that trust shouldn't be given.
"Oh yeah, I don’t really understand what side you are on, wether you support trans people or not, so I don’t know exactly from what angle to respond to you."
I support trans people fully abandoning their worldview for something more coherent.
@@Vic2point0 Now knowing that you don't even support trans people I am sure that you're the type of person who can NEVER be convinced they're wrong

Historically, Gender and Sex meant the same thing to most people. Changing word definitions is a major cause of pushback on this. If you say gender and they think your talking about sex you will think each other is stupid.
My least favourite question in the world: Are you a boy, or a girl?
