Yeah, I used to think that aromantics were all asexual by default, this coming from an asexual, cause no one bothered explaining it to me whenever I brought it up. It wasn't until I actually read about it that I realized they're not necessarily related

They also tend to be the kind of people who fall into the memetic theory of believing what sounds convenient and/or beneficial to them or their beliefs, then pass it on to other like-minded people.
Much like the pineapple improving the taste of semen myth, starting as a study to see how far it would spread compared to a more mundane lie. The pineapple claim spread so fast, with hundreds of outlets reporting on it and doing their best to try explain it, the origin point was buried and lost. True meme in action. Really I think that what makes us human is our ability to choose if we want to have sex or who we want to have sex with. The fact that we have a choice is what makes us human and people need to realize that just because you deviate from “the norm” doesn’t make you any less of a person.

Sorry if this is over-stepping for a stranger on the internet, but I really connected with your comment and felt compelled to share. I know it's easier said than done, but you should try not to hate yourself for something that's part of who you are. Yes, finding a relationship with a partner who has the same preferences for intimacy may be more challenging for you than most, but it's not impossible. After all, you exist (and all the other lovely aces in these comments, myself included!), so there's bound to be others like you! Plus, you are a whole, complete, human all by yourself, who is deserving of love, no matter what kind of relationships you may or may not have throughout your life (platonic, romantic, etc). It's good to be accepting and content in life, but if you truly desire to be in a relationship with someone like you, don't give up! That's all I wanted to say. Hope you have a wonderful day =)

I found out (at 16 I might add) that people date for sexual reasons and not just because they wanted to bake pies, live in a tiny house together, cuddle with tea when it’s cold and go hiking together when it’s warm.
    Pretty sure I’m ace tbh-
Hello- update over half a year later. I should state I’m 18 for this whole story and already identified as asexual. Bout a month or two after I posted this I met a girl- we got really close- she asked if I would date her. Figuring the feeling I had felt toward her was romantic attraction. A month and a half more of dating and after we kissed I just- realized I didn’t feel anything. That I didn’t veil her as any more then a friend. A few talks with my therapist and many sleepless nights later. Me and the girl had a long talk- she had been cheating on me- well I wouldn’t call it cheating since we had only been together for a month at the time she started. But she had been seeing someone else because she felt like I didn’t really love her. I told her about what I had been feeling and how I wasn’t sure about any of this. So we broke it off- it only ever really lasted about 2 months and was the only romantic relationship I’ve ever had. But we didn’t end in an argument, just a mutual agreement that it wouldn’t work out, and we wouldn’t have any bitter feelings toward the other. I went trough a lot, trying to figure out what was wrong with me and why I didn’t love her.
I talked with some AroAce friends and thought about it, did some research, and what I was feeling toward her was probably just platonic attraction. I do identify and Aroace now and have no plans of getting into another relationship (obviously) for forever. Identifying as Aroace has been one of the best things that’s ever happened to me, made my life a whole lot better. It makes me feel so much like I’m not “broken” anymore. I feel so much more content with the relationships I have. I may never romantically, or sexually love anyone, but I still have a very happy life filled with love. Platonic love for my friends, familial love with (some) of my family, love form my pets, love of my hobbies and the career I’m pursuing (I’m going to collage to become an ictheologist right now), and just love for the life I’ve built with the help of my friends and family and coworkers and classmates and therapist and everyone else who supports me so much. I lead a life filled with so much love and appreciation now and I can see that.
Being Aroace is amazing! Us Aces and Aros and Aroace are out hear living lives and proving that you don’t need sex or a romantic relationship to lead a fulfilling happy life! Stay safe fellows!

The fact that you can compliment someone for their talent and/or personality aside, there's also a thing that's called aesthetic attraction. Like, I may don't feel sexually attracted to them, but I still have eyes okay?!

I used to have periods that were very heavy and lasted for literal months until I got medical intervention. The only reason I don't now is because I have to take pills to regulate the cycle. If I ever go off them, there's a chance it might start again (because that's what happened every other time I tried that). @@Flarflenugen Some people just seem to form a rigid view of how the world is and if anything comes along that doesn't fit in, it's either given a temporary excuse or is denied being real.
Like in the case of my friend's wife, she seems totally fine with all forms of sexuality except asexual, as having a sex drive is just what humans have, apparently. But she's the same with other things too, like mixing certain foods is just something *not* done.
She was seriously repulsed at the idea of a bagel with chicken and cheese, chicken or cheese, sure, but both on a bagel was like taking jackhammer to the foundation of physics to her.
My friend believes it's just how her family raised her to be as they're very much the same with odd, specific steadfast beliefs of things.
I assume that is how it is for a lot of people, that somehow their brain gets hardwired into their own perceptions and they can't let go or adapt to the larger world around them.
Rambling now, but another friend, she's from a very pushy and opinionated family. She's been taught women *have* to wear makeup, even when home alone and was pressured into cosmetic surgery because her petite frame was too "boy-like" and kept making her believe she would never get married because she wasn't "womanly" enough.
Worst part is, she fully agrees with them and got mad at me for trying to convince her that she was fine before and is fine now and doesn't need any surgery to be worth something, especially to herself but she just got mad at me. I would have been fine with it if she just didn't want to talk about it, but the unnecessary and unexpected anger stings.
Unfortunately her self image and self worth issues have caused major commitment issues, so she's constantly having one night stands but shuns and ghosts anyone who actually cares and wants to build a relationship.
What amazes me most is how much time and effort people put in to trying to "correct" others. It's just so much easier to not give a damn, if someone isn't hurting anyone then let them live their life. If, you feel like they need help, offer it, don't push it as misunderstandings are everywhere! It seems a bit cold and apathetic, but it's how I try to live my life.

You know when literally everyone keeps talking about attraction here, sex there, of how they would to kiss and touch someone? Or even worse, when someone started getting physical and weird with you just because they felt attracted to you. I always tried to understand anything that I couldn't, but this...I really can't. Other people can't really understand why asexuals stays single for a long time, but actually It's pretty logic, there's no point in pursuing someone who we know won't accept being in a relationship without sex, and some of us won't make it just because our partner wants to, since it doesn't make sense to us.

@@pedroviniciussilvaleal8113 you'll probably get better answers than mine, as I am only questioning. The friend who explained it to me said it really depends on the person. There are three "types" of asexuality. Sex-repulsed: "ew gross" Sex-Neutral: "Well if it makes my partner happy..." And Sex-favorable: "I have a sex drive but not towards a specific person." But to answer your question, yes sex is important to a relationship, but not in the way that "you should have sex because you are married." It is more important that the sexual desires of each person are on a similar level, be that level at 0 or 100. The main thing is understanding that romantic attraction, or love, is different from sexual attraction, lust. It's a fickle thing, because they are often portrayed as either one and the same, or completely separate, but the truth is somewhere in the middle, where a misconnection in one can harm the other. So yes, they do feel the romantic attraction, but they wouldn't feel the sexual attraction.

I met my husband when I was in high school, and he was the one who made me realize that I was Asexual. My fear of coming out to him about it was what made us break up the first time, despite the fact that I was romantically attracted to him. Four years later, we were brought back together and I basically told him that I was Asexual right off the bat, before my heart could be broken again. And he straight up told me that he didn't care. He shared those romantic feelings with me.
10 years after that, we are celebrating our seventh wedding anniversary.

    1) I’ve come to notice that whenever I developed a crush/squish on a person I tend to pay more attention to the persons aesthetic and/or physical features of their face, funnily enough I sometimes develop a crush/squish on a person if they remind me of a fictional character and/or IRL “celebrity”

Love that someone finally talked about asexuality accurately!! It's also nice to know that there are specific branches under ace such as the gray mentioned or demi- sexuality

Thank you so much for making this, phychtogo! I’m asexual and I’m almost always worried when people hear it, bc many people take it the wrong way. I’m already making a list of people to send it to!

It is so beautiful to come here and find not just another video about Asexuality awarness, but also so many appreciations to it and a lot of support and knowledge in the comments. I'm happy to see so many people appreciating themselves, despite what society thinks. We are valid! Lots of love for this lovely community!

I want to send this to my family. I told them I'm asexual and they asked and said most of these assumptions about asexuality. I am very happy that asexuality is being talked about more

I am so glad that at least someone has mentioned it. You’d think there’d be more comments, but seems not. This isn’t even the first video on asexuality they’ve done and they still mixed up the black and the white stripe like they did in the other video

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT. I am not asexual myself but I get a lil mad when people keeps mixing up aromantic and asexual, I also don't like that "asexuals don't feel romantic attraction at all" memes it's just wrong
