    Right radio thank you very much for doing this I was hunting for what our noise was on our Kia Sorento when you move the flywheel up and down and you can hear that knocking sound that is what is now happening to our Kia Sorento we also found that in 4th and 5th there is a vibration which comes through the gearbox and engine which you can feel through the car the car this morning is in the garage we hope that it won't cost as too much to have this replaced but thank you for your video as it clearly shows exactly what is happening

    Great video to understand that noise we hear. I thought it was a rod knock at first. Once you get under the car its really easy to hear where its coming from. Mine goes away after warmed up. Probably a loaded question but any idea of how long these things last after they start rattling?

    • @bradauto
      @bradauto  4 месяца назад +3

      It’s a matter of what you’re prepared to put up with. Feedback gets progressively worse until the car becomes eventually undriveable either from vibration and/or poor gear selection.
      (Quick answer) I’ve seen some last for 12 months
      However they can become so bad the flywheel has to be cut apart to remove it as the top plate moves (jams) and covers the flywheel bolt heads.
      Short answer - just replace the thing asap

    Just had to scrap my car cos of this. 232,781 Miles, 3 clutches, 3 dual mass flywheels, and the LUK Kit just came apart, destroyed the gearbox. New flywheel £450, New Clutch Kit £400, £600 in labor, £1500 repair on a car that has more value in the fuel tank than it does the rest of it.
    RIP Kelly you was a monster why you lasted baby! Dont ignore Dual Mass failure symptoms folks at least not like it did, it will get very very expensive very very fast.

    So just spent a fortune (to me) on an old P2 Volvo V70 2.4d and on start up there's a single bang/clunk on firing up the Engine... Some vibration on idle, but as soon as she's driving the gear changes are smooth and no issue...

    What do you think, input shaft bearing or DMF. When the car is cold i cant hear the sound it gets lauder the warmer the car gets or if i beat on it. If i beat on it i can hear it with glutch down as well but not as much. Sound like a scoring sound/grinding sound. the sound stops when i press down the clutch and comes back with the glutch up. Also hear the sound when im driving, it gets even lauder on some gears or if i motor brake or drive slow. DMF or input shaft sound from the gearbox? its a manual. My car dosent have a pilot bearing.

    • @bradauto

    DMF rattle at 1:54 is unfortunately a common fault for my car. Even when replaced with a new OEM DMF they tend to start rattling again after not much time.
    Would a dampened clutch help increase the lifespan of a new DMF, and prevent this rattle from happening again?

    I have an Astra twintop 2008 1.8 petrol. the car won't go into gear. the gear lever is very stiff. When engine is on in neutral there's a noise coming from the gearbox, when I press the clutch down it goes away. A mechanic said there is a worn out bearing in the centre of dual mass flywheel. Is that a part of the clutch kit? After dropping the gearbox he says I need clutch kit and a gearbox both.

    When I’m accelerating from first gear it’s starting to hop unless I put some extra revs.
    Do you think it can be the issue?

    • @bradauto
      @bradauto  10 месяцев назад

      Very hard to say from that description - if it’s while slipping the clutch it may be clutch judder, which is more a clutch issue than flywheel, if it’s with clutch disengaged it could be a driveshaft or even engine mount worn. Get it looked at for diagnosis by a pro
