  • This 2009 Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Petrol came in because it was leaking oil from the Sump Pan.
    It's been a common problem for years on these cars so I thought I'd bring you along.

    Ah I have this fun to come soon. Still, doesn't look too bad of a job. Nice to still see a reasonably modern car with basic mechanicals to work on! Mad how long Fiat have been using this FIRE engine now.

    Nice job! I also own a Fiat Grande Punto, and luckily never had any issues with oil leaks so far. In fact, I really haven't had any major issues with my car so far. The car has almost run a good 270.000KM, of which I rode 30.000KM myself. The only major thing that needed to be replaced was the original clutch, which hasn't been replaced since the car was built.

    Back in the 80's I owned a Fiat Strada 130 Abarth (Remember the TV ad? - "Built by robots, driven by fu**wits"....or something like that) and if you listened very, very carefully you could hear it slowly rotting away. A chap once told me that FIAT stands for - Fix It Again Tomorrow, and he worked for a Fiat dealership as the Head Technician, honestly. I'm sure they've come on leaps and bounds since then.......well apart from the sump pans being made from tin. Great vid, Rob :)

    Cheers One Auto.Just did Mom's 2001 Palio 1.2 mpi which has the same sump. I didn't put enough sealant bead on the edge and had to redo the job.What a pain to clean off the old silicone underneath the block.The video is missing the most important part IMO that is to stage tighten the sump bolts with 15 min intervals as recommended by Reinzosil that I used.Why the Italians couldn't give it a conventional gasket is a mystery.Fix it tomorrow again.hahaha

    Thanks for this Rob, great tutorial with clear instructions, you've just saved me (or rather my son) a hefty bill - bought a 2007 Grande with a rusty sump & a minor oil-leak & found out on cleaning it up that the oil was seeping through the sump. Luckily the exhaust has been replaced recently, so came off easy, same old stubborn sump sealant though!

      Luckily I'm off for two weeks and I can just leave the car up on blocks for that time

      Hello I have to do this job on my Panda 169 (2010) can you tell me what I have to disassemble??? Is it necessary to remove the catalytic converter?

    • @jochenstacker7448
      @jochenstacker7448 Год назад +1

      @@michaelaustria75 it may be possible to just loosen it, but by then it's easier to just remove the cat, because it's about the same work.
      The heat shield has to come off, then undo exhaust manifold bolts and then unclamp the cat.
      There are more screws underneath that hold the cat and some clamps, it's not great, but not impossible either.
      What engine does your panda have? Is it front wheel drive or four wheel drive?

    • @jochenstacker7448
      @jochenstacker7448 Год назад

      @@michaelaustria75 this video is very spot on, also for the Panda. *IMPORTANT* Get angled prying tools to take off the pan, unless it's already beyond salvage. If you need a new pan, get an original one. I bought a cheap one and the oil plug would not seal and neither did the rest of the pan, you'll never get it to seal to the block.
