I keep seeing this and to me he doesn’t understand her “hobbies/collections” but he made it clear that he supports her business and creativity. Everyone looking for a bad guy
I always wondered how most people my age always seem to be traveling, having fun all the time, getting cool new things...and then I started watching this show and I realize it's all from debt. I'm grateful that bubble was popped for me.
I'm 35 and we make way more than enough to travel, but we don't. Because I don't like spending money on things that don't last. There is always a trend where some people make less and spend more. And some people make more and spend less. Maybe they are happier than me but I'd rather have a chill staycation than an expensive vacation.
i'm mid-20s, single income, no debt, completely financially independent, excellent credit, 401(k) and 6 months' salary in savings at all times. i also do major trans-atlantic solo travel 2 - 3x per year. most other young travellers i meet abroad are also financially independent and debt-free. it isn't productive or helpful to make assumptions about other peoples' finances. content like this is a really good place to learn about budgeting and saving so you can /also/ afford these things if you so choose. either way, it costs nothing to be kind.
To be fair car prices were insane in 2021 and they said they put a lot of miles on it. So it was probably worth around 25 - 28k when they got it. However, he is ljke so many that want a project car but don't know how to work/fix cars. At some point you need to be honest with yourself and say its not for me. I speak from experience.
Not just that. The fact that they paid 30k recently on a used 2014 Jeep. Recent jeeps are notorious for being unreliable. The ones that are reliable are the really old ones.
So the wife has 50k in retirement accounts, and he buys bs project cars and a fucking brand new motorcycle, and created tens of thousands of dollars in debt, but SHE'S the bad one with money? This guy is out of his mind.
I invited my fiance to start watching these videos, told him i want to marry him and not his debt.... He finally has a retirement account, free of debt and an emergency fund... i'm so proud of him.
I hope the girl getting the tattoo sees this. Do NOT give that artist any money unless you guys are going to start tattooing. This is a common scam. Please like this so she sees it. It’s happened to me before, and I’ve worked in the industry so I know.
And like, what’s the value in giving them the money without getting the ink. Just set the money aside until it’s ready to pay in full and then do that. It’s the same difference. Otherwise what, go to small claims after you’ve given someone your money without getting the service and being surprised if they give you a hard time or screw you over? Like, it just further demonstrates that they dont understand why not to hand over money (either to a tattoo artist in pre-payments?!? Or in interest fees) And I have several tattoos!
@@oliviaburton4935the only thing that would make sense is a deposit for a drawing / concept. I have over 15k in tattoos, from artist all over the world. I've never gotten a free drawing, but I've also never made pre payments for any of the tattoos on my body. That's classic sketchy behavior for sure.
Nah, not by a long shot-- and for these two, the most insane thing would be she married this guy _after_ paying his student debt. They've been together for, what? Four years? I'm sure he's thrown her under the bus before in other situations, yet she still said "I do." If some guy my daughter was dating publicly blamed her for their financial situation, I'd tell her to ditch him. (to be fair, as a 44 to family man, it irritates me they're in debt and she's collecting Funko Pops)
Almost $160k in debt?! I would be in a panic. No, you cannot take international trips. Or weekend "commune with nature" trips. Or get tattoos. Or buy crappy vehicles. Or a new motorcycle. How can you do these things with a clear conscience when you owe your own family so much? I don't get this thinking in any way.
Starting a payment plan for a tattoo in advance over a number of years, before the work even starts, was the dumbest thing I've seen on this channel. I can't believe she said that with her whole chest. I'm sure they're lovely people but my God are they cringy lol.

Good for Caleb calling them out right away when a couple makes over 100K and blames inflation for their issues. There are couples struggling on 50K that aren't in debt.
I think people making $50K/ year as a couple are either in a dirt cheap area, so you can’t compare them or they live off of someone else/government assistance. You’re not getting a $2300 apartment on $50K/year. Either way, you can’t compare them.
@@1KingFisheryou kind of can compare them though. A $2300 rent is usually still a choice in a lot of the country regardless of area unless you’re in a super populated metro for example I can get a one bedroom $2300 rent downtown in my city. Or I can rent for $1200 in the greater city area Where things just aren’t as close to you and you might add 10 minutes or so to your drive. On top of that when you’re a couple prices don’t just automatically double. for example That $1200 rent I used earlier is still $1200 with my wife on top of her income would help even more. Even groceries don’t necessarily double with her being gluten and dairy free. Our groceries are about $80-$90 a week on the weeks where we have to purchase extra toiletries like shampoo or paper towels, but you can also argue that’s part of the toilet pond and not groceries. So yes, some cases they may not be super comparable, but I still feel like a lot of cases you can definitely compare them since a lot of cost outside of those big metro areas are due to lifestyle choices such as how much rent you could afford
Right? Lol I honestly like their vibes together, they make a cute couple. They're a little bit flawed though but I think they are emotional mature to work it out

Whenever someone says that closing a card affects their credit, Caleb needs to clap back with "so does maxing out cards" or "so does missing payments."
I also fail to understand why they care so much. We have one cc and didn't care if my score got dinged if I closed a second one or third one. It didn't work for me to have multiples.
@@THEGREENHELIUM He does but kind of in a long winded way that isnt going to connect with the people sitting across from him. Saying it in a simple way that picks at their actions (maxing out their cards or missing payments) is going to get the point across better
@@beckypetersen2680 I think credit score as a concept is designed to be confusing to a majority of people and rather than researching they think it's this super important thing and they won't have access to anything if they screw it up: rent, credit cards, loans, phone bills etc. The truth is anything you do that involves debt, even just a credit check or closing a card will impact your credit score slightly. Unless you're looking for a mortgage or a large loan this doesn't really matter, the key is to be consistent. It's a lot better to cancel your overpaid cards, take the hit, fix the problem and look at building it back up over a 6 month period or so than continuing to stack interest and paying way more money than you need to, thus remaining in debt much longer and hurting your credit score for a lot longer in the end. That's why I like people like Caleb, some people need to be told they're stupid and ruining their life or they won't ever make the changes needed

Speaking as a sister of someone who already owns an online mental health based clothing brand who also does farmers market, my sister saw success during the pandemic but now is absolutely STRUGGLING right now in this economy. The market is so oversaturated and she is having to figure out how to pivot out of that sector as it is so over saturated. Just a little info from a loved one who is witnessing their family suffer due to a dream that offers no financial security.
that’s what i was thinking. love that she wants to spread the messages but a shirt saying “i am enough” or “you are enough” is extremely overdone in the market. she seems like a lovely human but it’s just not realistic at all unfortunately
During covid this is what majority of people were learning to do to get money easy now everyone is doing it. She said she also tried Resin Epoxy molds and such. Again trying to get easy money, something that doesn't require much skill. Small business often times that go under are these sticker sellers tshirt prints cup prints resin figures keychains or pins etc. That dont make it big because _everyone_ is doing it and their advertising skills are poor. I think she has the heart for it but not the skills or talent as an artist and advertising. She should just be a tattoo artist, she likes tattoos and has the vibe but idk about her artistic skill which again is important
So tiresome. So many people just “say” they have a business idea. Like this guy and other “fixing” and flipping cars. Like, doing it isn’t a business, it’s a hobby and then a gamble. Having a product you “hope” people will buy or “guess” will be valuable after someone just sold it to you….then it’s NOT a business.
My husband and I have been watching this channel for about 6-8 months and we have in that time quit smoking, quit buying random bullshit like coffees/fast food, were able to pay off our credit card, start putting into an emergency fund, and putting money into an account for a down payment for a house. It is tough, but we spend a lot more on stuff we can't afford than we realize. Can't get ahead if we keep holding ourselves back. Thank you Caleb for opening our eyes ❤

I think she's really sweet for wanting to empower people, but I just don't know of anyone who has ever looked at a shirt that says "you are enough", and said, "you know what? You're absolutely correct." I see that stuff on social media all of the time and it's just never been actually inspiring.
I remember being told that positive messaging only works for people who are already inclined to believe positive messages, so it's a moot point for people who are not. I fully believe that. Personally, I don't think it holds any weight or meaning when it's just tossed out into the world like confetti. It makes way more of an impact to be told something like that directly.
To everyone wanting to get into motorcycling - buy your first bike USED and in CASH! New bikes are NOT inherently safer than used bikes. If you can't be safe on a bare bones piece of shit bike with NO features besides a tach, speedo, and gear indicator, you can't be safe on a NEW bike with all the bells and whistles.
Also, I wouldn't consider being a Motorcycle Safety Foundation instructor to be a job anyway. It's a VERY part time side gig for people who have a full time job but are passionate about riding and creating safe and knowledgeable riders.

KEEP it paid off. every month. the best way ive learned to think of a credit card is its now your debit card, and your debit card is the ATM card. thats it. if you dont have the money in the bank to use your debit card, cant use your credit card. thats the only way it should work.
@bradhaines3142 that's a good idea. I have a fun money budget every month and even though my CC limit is higher than that budget, I tell myself not to go over that and pay the card off every month.

Having this much debt before 30 and talking about vacation homes shows how delusional these people are. Nothing wrong with having aspirations but even if they somehow could afford a second home, they’d have no retirement or money for basic living expenses.

I'd argue you should enter into a marriage with your finances already sorted. Finances are a leading cause of divorce because people don't communicate and work together on finances. It's important in a marriage to treat finances as a team sport, not individual.
@@ShyLittle88 For me it came down to sustainable systems in my money and finding what keeps me accountable. 1. Find the budget system that works for you. I’m personally a YNAB cultist, but that’s because it clicks in my brain in a way other systems just don’t. I stick to it, and it gamified saving and paying off debt for me. 2. The one month emergency fund is everything for me. Besides warding off Murphy’s Law (that’s how it feels for me anyway), I have a lot less anxiety making larger student loan payments because if something really goes south, I have cushion. If not a full month, The Money Guy suggest saving your deductibles, which can still create breathing room. 3. Cheap/free hobbies. I’ve found running to be something that keeps my mind clear. I struggle with anxiety/depression, so it’s great for my physical and mental health as well. Obviously, running shoes aren’t free and injury prevention is important. I set aside a small amount each month to buy myself a new set every six months. Similarly, setting aside something small to sustain something that brings you joy can help keep you going. 4. Last and certainly not least, an accountability partner was everything. That was my boyfriend for me. We live together and don’t combine finances, but we’re very transparent in weekly budget meetings to discuss our goals/bills/groceries/dates. He was my biggest supporter in me paying off my loans. So whether that’s a romantic partner or just someone you trust, someone who can look outside of your spreadsheet and tell you where your slacking or cheer you on when you do well is invaluable. Besides tips, there are some important environmental factors that helped me save money: 1. I live in a HCOL city, but have metro access and subsidized fare through my employer. So I have no need for a car/car payment. 2. I would say I lucked out in the job market and got a decent job after graduating with my Master’s degree last year. I know plenty of people in my cohort who cannot say the same thing. Getting a job and a raise is definitely an amalgamation of skills (interviewing, networking, self advocacy, etc), but I feel as though there was some luck involved in me landing where I did. TLDR: systems with money and accountability + taking advantage of what my environment offered me. Definitely sacrificing along the way, but paying off half my total debt in the year since graduation has been a high like no other.
@@ShyLittle88 my earlier reply didn’t post, so hopefully this one works! It comes down to finding the sustainable system that works best for you. Finding the budget system that clicks in your mind, the sustainable little joys that keep you going, and an accountability partner. Those were the three things I needed. Obviously there are environmental factors (COL, access to public transit, etc) so look into what you can make work for yourself.
I’m living off PB&J sandwiches for lunch every day and leftovers for dinner for the week so I can pay off my credit card on Friday! All of my labs came back perfect, great cholesterol too. So with the diet changes due to working at paying off debt I’ve seen a positive change actually! Doesn’t hurt me to slim down a little in the process. Plus I’m very active around my house (mowing the yard, gardening, cleaning, cooking, etc) and I’ve been riding horses for the last 20 years. But I’ve since had to retire from that so my body was not in great shape til recently and still honestly isn’t ideal just yet but believe me I’m not eating like this all the time. It’s just to save the extra $ and cut back and keep up with the sacrifices so I can stay consistent with paying down debts. @danielgarcia7385 The hard part is that those who make 100+k usually fall into two categories. Those who "struggle" because they could have excess but make poor choices, and those who struggle because they did not always make 100+k and now have to play "catch up" with all the debt Accrued until making that amount. As someone who's in a high cost of living area, and now it just in a relationship where our income will break 100k, maybe not this year but next year, that amount doesn't save me from the approximately 40k income last year with almost 20 thousand dollars in excess things that were necessary/emergencies, but had to be charged to a card because we straight up didn't have cash. 2:40 love your videos Caleb but hate the answer you gave here. When people say "things are expensive" (not just you, tons of financial influencers and professionals do this) they're not talking about the YoY inflation rate. So giving that rate and implying "it can't be that bad, we're only at 3% and the feds target is 2% long term", is not helpful. It is THE LAST FIVE YEARS that's killing the middle class. It's the fact that a 600k house 4 years ago is not 1.2 mil, it's prices that have gone up 250% over 4 years and wages have been flat until recently, that is the issue. So a year over year number is not reflective of what the conversation needs to be about.

She’s marketing it wrong. Her clothing brand doesn’t seem to be about getting the “message” out but about affirmations which is less about awareness and more about validating and encouraging people. Not a bad idea overall, just needs a better guiding hand.
Its a double edged sword. I just replaced the alternator or my wife's grocery getter. Total cost was $136 and 2hr of work. If it went to a shop or the dealership, it would have been $650-1100, depending on the location, and 2 days. Plus towing it there. Not every car guy is a bad-with-money guy. That is a dangerous combination. Thats how you get somebody sinking 3x as much money into project cars as they're worth.
Over all I agree with Caleb, but I've got to push back a little on the 3% inflation line... we run a small coffee shop/bakery and are meticulous about our spending so I know my numbers. most of our supplies are up 35-40% over 4 years ago. Some even more than that. No matter what the technical inflation number is, that's what people mean when they complain about inflation.

At a certain point... just take the car to a reputable mechanic. The dude claims knowledge - he should be able to discuss things with the mechanic. He is clearly unable to diagnose or fix the problem. To have a working vehicle... this is important. Neither person here seems to realize that time =money -> you can look at local minimum wage to begin to get an idea of this.
I'm a mechanic. My buddy's jeep was misfiring and we threw spark plugs at it because it was WAY overdue. Turns out, when he got his transmission service at a shop, they spilled trans fluid all over the O2 sensor and shorted it out. Threw an O2 sensor at it and it was running fine, but thanks to the previous thermostat issue (just jeep things teehee) the catalytic converter was dead 😭 I hate jeeps.

If tattoos are considered art…artwork is commissioned All The Time. She could those payments into her own bank account and pay for it once she has the money.
It would only really make sense in her case if she and the tattoo artist agreed on a discounted price and locked in a date in exchange for the regular deposits, but it sounds like they haven't even decided on the price of the tattoo? I'm not a tattoo person so I don't know how common this is but it just sounds stupid to me.
It would make more sense to put that money in a savings account, especially as its over several years. Might as well be earning interest. Even better stick it in a fixed term high interest saver and you win. Maybe she has zero ability to save or doesn't trust that she won't spend the money on something else, regardless I would never pay for something before I get it, what if that tattoo shop went out of business? That money would be gone.

And like, what’s the value in giving them the money without getting the ink. Just set the money aside until it’s ready to pay in full and then do that. It’s the same difference. Otherwise what, go to small claims after you’ve given someone your money without getting the service and being surprised if they give you a hard time or screw you over?

Good for Caleb calling them out right away when a couple makes over 100K and blames inflation for their issues. There are couples struggling on 50K that aren't in debt.
Seriously, the inflation excuse is getting sooo tiring! A very sloppy thing to try and use as someone's financial issues now a days.
100%
Hey its me those couples
The vibes for this one were definitely “my wife and I saw you from across the bar and we really dig your vibe” 😂

This is the month I pay off my first student loan!! Thank you Caleb for keeping me on track! Will have paid off over $20,000 in debt in one year.
Omg congrats. Any tips?
Congrats! I pay my first one off next month. It is so exciting and freeing. Keep going!
Besides tips, there are some important environmental factors that helped me save money:
The remaining $100 will be paid first thing Friday morning! 1 out of 6 but it’s a start. Snowball method! 🙌🏻 I will say this is the first time I’ve ever manually worked at paying off my debts. So for that I’m super proud! I’m proof that debt consolidations/taking out loans for paying off debt doesn’t always work. 🙃
Proud of you! It’s not easy but it’s so so so worth it.
Don’t mess up your health!
@@Username0467 Don’t plan on it! Honestly I’m better off eating less and smaller portions as someone who is overweight, I’ve lost 10 pounds within the last few months and have even seen my blood pressure lower to healthy and stable levels. I’m in between paychecks right now and normally if this was me a year ago I’d pull from savings or put on a cc but me now I’m sacrificing, using up items in my food storage that I have leftover just for the week so I can keep making progress.
Are you picky about food? I just know pb and j can get old lol. Shredding chicken can make a lot. Chicken tacos, chicken quesadillas, chicken and rice.. just some variety thats still not expensive
You have to be at the point where debt makes you physically ill in order change your behavior. These two aren’t there yet. As long as they can pay their bills, that’s good enough for them. If one or both of them suddenly lose their job, they are headed for bankruptcy!

@@DanianEike I just dont believe anyone can struggle making 130-150k a year. My parents came into this county earning no more than 25k a year with two kids in elemtary and middle school, and THATS strugguling. This come off really judgy, and I dont know the situations ya'll are in but the word 'struggle' should not be in the vocabulary of anyone who earns 100k a year.

So many people get married and have had basically ZERO discussion about absolutely anything at all. It should not be a shock that these same people end up with absolutely terrible financial situations.
Yes. My first date was finances on the table. I said hello, introduced myself, she introduced herself, laid out my 10 year life plan, asked her if she agreed to that plan, she told me where she's at and agreed to the plan, we high fived, finished our food, gave her a peck kiss and we went our separate ways after. That was 5 years ago and we're happily married, job promotions into upper management, home owners, and married.

Told me her current finances and that she didn't really have plans, everything fit, high fived to conclude the deal. Not even hanky panky afterwards because that's unprofessional.
I see a couple that is still very much in love and happy. They are here 5 days into their marriage to work on their finances before it destroys their relationship. She signed for a loan 2 months into their relationship- she is the artistic type….they always have more trouble with seeing money as solid. I hope they get it together and fly as high as they can in life.
It’s definitely better to deal with this when you’re at the highest point of love, the honeymoon phase. Most married couples deal with this after years of resentment and bitterest have built up and they hate each other.

That said, I don't disagree with your point in not using it as a cop out though. People definitely will do that.
