    I remember that night well. My final memory is watching Neil's bus leaving the parking lot. Thanks for posting this. I wish we could live it all again.

    Everyone would gather
    On the twenty-fourth of May
    Sitting in the sand
    To watch the fireworks display
    Dancing fires on the beach
    Singing songs together
    Though it's just a memory, some memories last forever

    That is so cool that they played Lakeside Park live. I've seen them 4 or 5 times from the mid 80's - the 90's and they never played it. (still good shows though). Caress of Steel is often overlooked but its actually one of my favorite albums.

      Mine too! I love Bastille day, the Necromancer, and Bacchus Plateau. If I have 20 minutes to spare I'll listen to all of side 2 Fountain of Lamneth. I've got it on vinyl and the vinyl sounds so much better than the digital version.

      Me too. They played 1 min snippets of Bastille Day and Anthem in '80, '92 and '04, but that was it for decades. Last time they played Lakeside Park was '78 AFTK tour!

    Alex was right years ago when he said he stuck close to the original solos because he remembers how bummed he was when his heros didn't play the solos like the records he knew and loved. After ignoring these songs for so long live, I wish he had played the solos closer to the originals. But I was damn happy just to hear these songs again!

      @@edbernardmusic3599 look into why this song was presented this way. Rush didn't go out on their final tour playing this way. Wasn't the farcical introduction any kind of a clue for you at all?

    I grew up with Rush since the beginning, they played my highschool in 1975 and i cherish every minute i was cranking Fly By Night to Moving pictures but found myself in the 80s getting depressed that Geddy's amazing, powerful voice was failing. All the great rock vocalists from the platinum age of R&R ( the 70s ) have lost their range and or rasp but Geddy hit me hard. I find it semi painful to listen to the once great powerhouse of Rush struggling to sing what used to come natural. Still my favoutite band of all time.

    I am impressed that they played these songs in the original key! I figured if they played any material from before 2112 except Working Man, they would've taken it down a whole step like they did for 2112 and Circumstances! Geddy did alter the melody, but I'm OK with that, it's a miracle he could even attempt these at his age!

    • @MerkinMuffly
      @MerkinMuffly Год назад +1

      No doubt, probably why this rarely gets played but Geddy is a trooper. Still one of my favorite Rush songs, the first one that turned be onto Rush and made me a fan, will always be dear to my heart

    Now there's song you don't hear live very much, one of my all-time favorites, hard to believe this song was on the album that nearly sunk the band, thankfully 2112 turned that all around

    Amazing that Geddy can still hit those high notes after all these years.
    He sacrifices every other element of his voice quality to do it though. Better just to drop an octave and sing with heart I think.

    • @GuaranteedEtern
      @GuaranteedEtern 7 месяцев назад

      He knows he needs to preserve his voice for tours, so he has to be more conservative than he potentially could be. Truth is all singers lose some range with age - especially those who sing at the top of their range when younger.

    • @berenonehand
      @berenonehand 4 месяца назад

      @peterg5383 Listen to the album recording again. He hits the highest notes live. I'm not saying he's hitting them all. It's clear that he should sing in a range that he can sing well in rather than keep singing it high.

    Can some explain the context of this? Their amps are seriously minimal and there’s a sparseness to the equipment that almost makes this look like an early gig back in the 70s. Looks great btw. 👍

    • @owenandrew8108
      @owenandrew8108 3 года назад +6

      the entire premise of the r40 show was "reverse chronological order", meaning they started with their current material and worked back through time until the beginning. their backline also changed throughout. so at the beginning of the show they had the geddison and the other steampunk stage decor, and then they moved onto the washing machines for ged and the Hughes and kettner amps for Alex, then onto walls of ampegs and Marshalls that got smaller as they worked backwards, until finally ending on the little amps on chairs meant to replicate what they used playing high school gyms in the 70s. Neil's kit also changed half way through from his modern kit into the kit you see here, which is inspired by his old slingerland kit "chromey" which you see in this video.

      @@owenandrew8108 I'm actually surprised by how many people did not know this about the final tour, since it was common knowledge. Maybe that speaks to how many people were faux fans on the final tour because it their first and last chance to see Rush. Just like all the posers who came out to see Metallica on the black album tour, because of the commercial success and actual radio hits, but couldn't tell you anything about the band at all.

      I think this was a parody of the band in their early days. That's why the funny introduction and the completely non musical guitar solo by Alex. Geddy may have lost his power in later years, but he didn't sing like this, no way in hell.

      Me either. Alex originally recorded the rhythm part for Lakeside Park with a borrowed or rented strat. So it was brighter than his ES-335. But this is just too bright and thin especially for Anthem.
