If you are moved by this piece, you should help John McDermott build McDermott house at Sunnybrook. I am. He's giving back big-time by creating a terminal care facility for Canadian Vets. - www.johnmcdermott.com
If you can sing without any accompaniment and sound this good, you are a great singer.
A true singer when no musicians are needed
well said;;
His voice is his instrument...
Mr. McDermott's voice is truly a gift from God. Just Beautiful.
Thank you!
A truly Irish delivery with great delivery 2:28
My dad used to sing this to me, memories.
I listen to this at least once a month, when I need a good cry. Beautiful! It just touches your Heart.
I've just discovered it, and will refer back to this time and time again I can just feel it.
That was such a restrained rendition, when the natural inclination is to belt it out it takes real talent to keep the brakes on. Probably the best rendition I’ve heard in many years
The title says it all.
My dad used to sing this when he was drunk (which was often) it brought a tear to my eye then as it does now. We played "Danny Boy" at my Dads funeral, if I had known of this video this would have been the one. This will play at mine. It is sweet ;D
I miss me dad :(
Condolences
They played it at my uncle's funeral at his request, his son is named Danny. I always found that quite profound, as if his father was speaking directly to him. My condolences, and hope you are doing okay.
@@mathewsgarden Thank you. God Bless
what a wonderful unaccompanied rendition of a truly beautiful song
How wonderful was that . I loved his soft accent and word pronunciation. Truly beautiful.
Thank you John....to all the Irish who had to leave their homeland of Ireland... leave mother, father, brother sister and the graves of their ancestors....who fought for freedom... but hunger, the empty belly.... now, one cannot fight hunger... one must leave and find food where it is... no matter how far.
Irish... blessed be the mother who bore you... and the soil that you had to leave behind... and the heart grows weary every day, because Irish, there is no place for you now...l don't belong... l have been gone too long from home.
May God bless you and give you His peace.
We Irish sing from deep within
Most countries who can sing put their whole in it
This does bring tears to my eyes. What a song and what a singer.
david lihou Danny Boy
The voice of a master!! John is like no other tenor
I'm stunned. My tears are flowing with the Beauty of this wonderful voice.
This song always gets to me. I have a brother named Danny and my grandpeople on my mother's side were Irish.
In my mind, it's the best version I've ever heard. Thanks to John Stall for making this available to the World.
So beautiful. I've had this song on my mind 3weeks now.
*Impressive.*
I can scarcely express how moving this rendition of a song I have known & loved for many decades; this is, for me, the most expressive and the most profound performance I have experienced and I am very grateful to those--of course foremost John McDermott--who brought it to me.
Wow what a wonderful talent, no back up music, and a great short story to set the mood.
The gift of a beautiful voice beautiful Talent and sung from the Soul it doesn't get any better than that
Heaven help me!! I could listen to you sing this for the rest of my days!! THANK YOU for sharing your BEAUTIFUL GIFT with us!!❤❤
Phenomenal job considering it was acapella, no music to hide anything (was nothing to hide anyway), just his pure controlled voice.. And all the while, slouched on a couch! So, for those who say there is better that maybe true but not by much if any could touch John singing.. Let alone without music... And certainly not sitting down.
I like Danny Boy best acapella or with no more than one or two instruments. Mr McDermott does the song justice.
It is all just great, but that final note...chills💜
Beautiful , brings a tear to my eyes what talent and a humble man.
Thank you 😊🍀
the way it's supposed to be sung, from the heart
Acapella no less, that was sweet. beautiful rendition.
What an incredible rendition of this beautiful song.
So beautiful
Wow!!! I have no idea who John McDermott is, yet I will. Acapella and sittin' down!!!!!! Thank you, Bro. Stall!!! Ps. - This song always reminds of DeBussey's "Clair de Lune" for some reason.
My mother loved him. Such a beautiful song.
This is the best, no music just his precious voice, John, you make me smile☘️
Bravo !
Incredible!!
Well done-John. One of the best ever.
EXQUISITE. I'm blown away. Sung as it should be sung. BOTH verses. I'm speechless. Thank you so very much. 🕊💕❤️💕☘☘☘
So beautiful!!!! Thank you
He sang this a year after my uncle died
This song has been stuck in my head for generations and this is exactly the rendition I was searching for.
Absolutely perfect fantastic voice.
I got chills and tears
It was an old Irish Air called "Codladh an tSionnaigh" / "The Fox's Sleep".
Has had many lyrics attached to it.
It's exquisitely poignant.
This is such an amazing video to happen upon. Mr McDermott is a gift from God.
It's a beautiful song,...so it is....
That was incredible.
From the start, I was just reading all the comments talking about how beautiful it was and just that fact that half the comments section was in tears...
I was kind of unimpressed until part way through where I realised I was getting shivers and was fully captivated.
I don't know how he did that, but that was an incredible rendition.
John is special in both talent and heart. The charity work he has been doing all along speaks for itself. His talent, sitting in a studio with no music and this amazing voice comes out, WOW. I wish I was there in person but thank you for posting this. It's been many years but his voice gets better with age. Unique!
Wonderful
Makes me cry
Excellent 👌
Oh my. i am crying beautiful.
Beautiful! Thank you!
That last bit (4:10 onward) is divine. John got a lot and has done a lot with what he got. We are all richer after imbibing this ambrosial air.
Such a very nice, calming comment too. Thank you Brian
My mum used to sing this to me when i was a young boy my name is danny obviously, i love this song though really

Amazing, simply amazing..
Magical no more words
Awesome!
O Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountainside.
The summer's gone and all the roses falling.
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or all the valley's hushed and white with snow.
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow.
O Danny Boy, O Danny Boy, I love you so.
When winter's come and all the flow'rs are dying,
And I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
But I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be.
And you will bend and tell me that you love me;
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.
O Danny Boy, the stream flows cool and slowly;
And pipes still call and echo 'cross the glen.
Your broken mother sighs and feels so lowly,
For you have not returned to smile again.
So if you've died and crossed the stream before us,
We pray that angels met you on the shore;
And you'll look down, and gently you'll implore us
To live so we may see your smiling face once more,
Once more.
BEAUTIFUL..
Roy Orbison ....full version .... brilliant .
Thankyou
that was class,,
Love It Just Love It
Awesome, he would do great on Green Fields of France
RIP Logus Daniel Harrison
My friend these 10 years gone. I'LL see you soon.
But not yet.
This is the way it is meant to sound.
Mr Stall, thanks for posting this.
Amazing! It might be I had by bose headsets on to loud, but softly in the background you can hear an echo from the sound engineers equipment
Sorry about that
Love this.
Well, that there's a winner.
Nice to hear it sung as an aire instead of a chance for a tenor to show off his high notes.
Morticia Addams yes it was lovely tho I do remember my Irish dad's beautiful tenor voice singing it - perhaps not a contest? just appreciation of many versions
@@65minimom It's about how it's sung, the two aren't mutually exclusive
Wow
That Irish brough doesn’t hurt either, very good.
Sounds beautiful. I think he's Glaswegian.
When a man calls a song irish and then calls Daire, Londonderry, the words of the song dont belong in his soul.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

❤
I could tell this was john McDermott by the thumbnail
A matter of taste.....
It’s Derry not London Derry!
With music it would have been perfect! Beautiful song! It sounds a little like "You raise me up".
Does it get any better than that ?...I think not.
Andy Williams does it good
