Greatest 2 Minutes of Grateful Dead

  • WARNING: You will become a lifelong Grateful Dead fan after hearing this. In my opinion, this is the greatest 2 minutes of the Grateful Dead and in live music history. Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and the Rhythm Devils are in perfect sync throughout these 2 minutes.
    Comment you favorite segment of live Dead or your favorite live Dead jam!
    #musicmoments #jerrygarcia #gratefuldead
    I know there are so many more sublime Grateful Dead moments. I feel like everything came together during the end of this jam on 5/8/1977. Jerry Garcia shreds so hard here. Music was never the same after this night in May 1977.
    If you know, you know. If you don't, hopefully this video will turn you on to the Dead and help preserve the legacy of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia.
    If you are trying to introduce someone to the Dead, I feel like it is easier to show them a video with the band playing rather than just having them listen to the music without any actual film of the band. Unfortunately, there is no footage from the Cornell 77 show. Thus, I created this montage in an attempt to sync with the music and make you feel like you are hearing and seeing the music live. I feel like this video will be very helpful for introducing people to the Grateful Dead and for turning new fans on to the Grateful Dead. For us who are already fans, I never tire of revisiting this moment. I apologize for leaving Mickey Hart out.

    "Greatest two minutes of Grateful Dead". That's some statement. Though just as an example I would throw the 'Beautiful Jam' in there from 2/18/71. Though it's over two minutes, there is no way in hell anything can be called the greatest as I could give you 20-30 other examples. They would all be from 68-74.

      Goes to show, the dead cared enough to stop the show to make sure everyone was safe and comfortable. When you look at the Astroworld tragedy, it’s pretty obvious that artists like Travis Scott don’t feel any responsibility to their fans besides giving them a good show. Which sounds reasonable until you see how easy it is to foster a positive environment.

    Maybe the greatest two mins of the late 70s era “polished Dead,” but I usually get my kicks on late 60s and early 70s primal Dead. Dark Star during that era has some fucking fire energy that they sorta lost later on (not saying the other eras didn’t have energy, just that 60s had some primal psychedelic vibes going, which I typically like better).

    • @lillykoroluk6620
      @lillykoroluk6620 2 года назад +6

      Primal is the absolute best word to describe that period as well. My favorite year probably being 1972 out of that time or 1974 (because the AUD’s from 74 are perfect). The dark stars were so nice. I think even when it came back into their set lists, the vibe changed because they started to put the crazier jams in space instead. So they had to change what dark star was in order to make it viable in their setlist again

    • @cosmicslopass

      Dark star definitely lost its magic going into the 80s and I honestly wouldn't have minded if they shelved it.

      @STSGuitar16 2 года назад +4

      @@lillykoroluk6620 Yeah, I've heard some people calling that era "primal" and I agree, it is a great description of the energy they had during that time. Like back when they'd scream and yell during St. Stephen and things like that lol. Everyone was vibrant and young, and acid was flowing all the time in that era as well. If an acid trip had a sound track, it would absolutely sound like some of that era's jams. Extremely psychedelic. '73 into '74 is my favorite year as well, love when they transitioned from raw psychedelic to a cleaner, more jazzy psychedelic sound plus all of the songs they added in '72. Keith on the Rhodes in '73 is also my favorite year for Keith. Took me a while to get into the 80s stuff, but '89 has become one of my go-to years these days as well. Love love LOVE Brent on B3 organ during that period (not crazy about his voice, which is what always kinda held me back from those years, but he was a total master on B3), but the interplay between him and jerry was amazing. Now that I think of it, I don't think I've ever listened to a late era Dark Star before. You got any recs?

    Video simulation of a bygone era of one drummer, when the Dead were at their best. Yes, I know Cornell, May '77 is widely touted by many as the best ever. In terms of energy and in-yer-face pace and two-drummer-pounding volume, no argument, but I don't care for that style. None of the jams changed key. Very little subtlety. Must go back to '74 and earlier, with just Billy, for the most tasteful Dead.

      I respectedly disagree. Fire was a new song, the combo was new. Lots of 80-84 Scar>Fire are red hot smoking versions. I believe the exceptional recording by Betty and how it was the best circulating boot back in the day feed the myth. Don't get me wrong, it's played super well, but it feels like that show is them playing it safe. Not much experimental jams. St. Paul, MN 82 is nice ruclips.net/video/fTJW2PyDreA/видео.html
