Followed this apart from the drilling- I just used the bush pulley to press it out and came out using a breaker bar and didn’t need to use a hack saw.
No need to align if you get polybushes either, more expensive but worth it as they’ll last longer than the car 💪🏼

Just fixed my 09 fiesta this morning. Follow this video to remove the old bushes however buy better quality polybushes instead of the press & standard bush kit. The old ones drill and cut out easily with abit of patience then the beauty of polybushes is that basically push in by hand. Whole job less then 2 hours for an amateur diy mechanic, all in cost £60. Thanks for the video!

Good video thanks Marty. My son-in-law and I did my daughter’s car this evening. A wee tip though, if you have a hole saw big enough, you can cut out the centre piece of the bushes by cutting from both sides. It’s a lot quicker than drilling them out 👍

I got a price off a local garage To replace these bushes with the standard type , £160 + vat . Having watched your video I replaced them myself with the power flex type bush , the power flex bushes cost me £77.00, and to be fair after watching your vlog they were a doddle to fit , it took me an hour to do the job .

Nice video and thx for the effort. One thing to mention tho, thats is that the marking on the bush was not done on the right place. It had to be done in the small gap of the bush a few centimeters to left at 8:43 in the video. Just a tip for everyone else who want to do this job him/herself

@@Martysworkshop Hi there. I heard you have to make sure you put the axle bracket back on the exact same position when you bolt it back up. Do you need to take any measurements before dropping the bracket to ensure it's the same way when you bolt it back up?
So ideally you shuld put the car on the floor before you tighten the 2 bolts that go through the centre of thease bushes, but this is quite difficult tbh

Great video. Thanks. I may be wrong here but the I believe the notch in the new bush is supposed to line up with the hole in the rear part of the arm. Your bush is roughly 180 degrees out. Not that that matters but instead of making a line, just use the notch and hole.

The step in the bush lines up with a little peg on the axle for correct alignment of the void bush

Thanks for this! Halfords have quoted me £550 due to labour, as they said it would take a few hours at least, to drop the axle and remove and replace rear bushes, but it's only the nearside one that's creaking anyway. Utter disbelief!
Its not a bad job at all i would change both bushes if you are going to the effort of lowering the axel. Thank you for watching

@@Spillage66 serenely not! That is a huge figure for a simple job! In a garage on a ramp i would expect this job to be done in 2 - 2.5 hours by an experienced mechanic. Thats price says to me they don't want the job if I'm honest.

Good video, but to save time what I do is I use a big drill bit and drill one hole right through the rubber against the outer plastic piece. By doing this the drill is acting as a cutting blade and is creating a gap on the plastic piece. Then just give it one whack with a hammer and it’ll fall out because the plastic outer piece has the gap created by the drill to close up on itself.

Great video, one of the best for clarity - one question, the tippex line, is that to mark the middle of old bush onto the metal axle, so that when you fit the new bush you mark the midle of the rubber to line it up to the axle again? Thanks
Thank you for all you support, the tippex is to make sure the bush goes in the wright position as there is gaps in the rubber bush so they need to be in the correct position, there is a step in the side of the bush so i marked that to the axel so i knew where it was then i marked the same point on the new bush and drew a line straight across the bush so as i pressed it in i could line it up easer. I hope this helps

A really useful video Marty , what sort of time are you looking at for the job start to finish roughly? My usual mechanic doesn't seem to want to do job and it may have to go to another garage if I can find one with the correct tool to fit the bush .
I have linked the tool and parts in the description if it helps they are quite affordable, it took me about 2-3 hours with recording it so not long. Axel bushes are usually quite difficult but because these have a plastic outer case they are really simple so try and explain that to your usual mechanic. Hope this helps

Question. What if im using nolathane 46444 bushes instead of the oem ones. The ones i got each side comes with 2 pieces. Any tips do i have to still mark it?
If they are solid bushes with no gaps the they can go in anywhere, and shuld tap in quite easily

Hello. Without removing the back end of the car how would I know if these have gone on mine? I have a 2016 mk7.5. What sort of age do these start to deteriorate?
I'm not sure i think it is more of a case of how much use and type of driving conditions rather than age, when tease went there was a loud squeak when you bounced the rear of the car an if you looked at the bushes by lying next to the car while someone bounced the rear you could clearly see the play in the bushes, i hope this helps and thank you for watching

Use the side without a bearing in then you can put a ratchet on the end and put a bearing race on the bush half way through to give it more threads to pull through

I reused all the nuts an bolts, it's a plastic bush so shuldnd have any issues. Thank you for watching.

Does the jack just need to take the weight of the back axle? Or does it need to be lowered slightly to access ya bushes/bolt
Yes the jack is to take the weight of the axel as the car is on stands, then once you remove the bolts you can lower the axel to access the bushes to remove, just only lower it enough to get to the bushes, don't let the weight of the axel go onto the h brake cables or brake pipes. hi marty - can you tell me what symptoms you had - or how to check this bush?
I've now got an ST and everything is stiff.
The symptom was a loud squeak while driving over uneven surfaces, and if we bounced the car while stationary it was also very loud, hope this helps.

They look identical to the genuine ones but I'm not sure what the wear ability is like if I'm completely honest.
@@Martysworkshop I've got the bush set today, looking at the press I do believe the larger/thicker collar with the cutout actually goes to the inside and the smaller one to the outside, the cutout marries up with the welded on section on the axle to the part that holds the bush. Just a note also my bushes don't require any such trimming with a sharp knife, it has an accurate chamfered edge.....Now to gather up my tools and get the job done. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean, i would take all the weight of the axel by jacking the chassis and check for play then.
Hi I've changed them now all noise gone but one whent in different orientation i.e spun round as it whent in does it matter?
If its not making any noise i wouldn't worry, if its at the wrong angle it might wear out sooner as there won't be as much rubber but it won't hirt.
Once done and putting back together,, is it not worth putting the bolt in from the other side, so next time won't need to drop the bracket down

My technical information doesn't say sorry.
The 3 mounting bracket bolts are 125Nm or 92lbft the pivot bolt in the centre of the bush is 80Nm or 59lbft PLUS 120° angle tighten. The pivot bolt must only be tightened when the vehicle is on the ground.

My Fiesta bushes are creaking at colder temperatures. Is this a typical symptom of a worn bushing? Thanks
So the rubber should be bonded the the centre pin, you will see in my video how the old oned fall out easily, but new ones are bonded to the rubber, that movement of the rubber rubbing on the pin is what can give you the creak, look at the Bush and get someone to push up and down on the boot if there is movement, then it's your bushes. Hope this helps

Can you explain what the symptoms were that lead you to knowing that the bushes needed replacing please ?
My wife has a 15 plate fiesta with only 28k on the clock that seems to have developed a banging and occasional spring "ping" noise (as if someone was dinging them) coming from the back, so i'm wondering whether it could be the springs (visually they look ok), shocks, bushes or something else

Hello I'm glad i can help, i jacked the car up by the rear axle and put my axle stands at the jacking point on the sills, but i allways check for rust in sills so just check first.

Noise from near side rear ..when I drive off a low curb ,,or over slight bumps ..or big bumps ..
I get a scraping noise .from suspension
I have replaced shocker and top shock bush ..not a new one it was from breakers ,, counted the coils on the spring ,,same both sides
Checked spring top and bottom ,,compared both sides .. checked bushes on your video ..very little movement when we bounce on back of car ..any ideas ❓❓❓⁉️
Honestly i have know idea what could make a scrapping noise in relation to the suspension, scrapping noises are usually caused by metal rubbing metal, so you would have to have a badly worn bush for the metal to touch, have you checked that these bushed haven't worn that bad that the axel is rubbing the mount plate, if you have checked everything you have i would definitely unbolt the axel and lower it down so you can see how much play is in these bushes. Its only a few bolts and only takes a few minuets, hope this helps

Hello i can't remember the exact sizes sorry and you would undo the main bolts by linking 2 spaners together but would not recomend it if I'm honest

Yes this has been mentioned you should jack the axel up untill the waight of the car is back on the suspension then tighten the bolts.

If you want to be I just jacked it in the centre but if you wanted to be spot on you could Lower the axel beam back onto your axel stands on either side near the hubs and that would put the Bush in the correct position, I wouldn't worry about weight

Hey Mate thanks so much for that done it myself was hard work with it all rusted up , quick question ! When putting the bracket back the passenger side there was a some give we’re u could actually screw back up ! So you could move were you screwed the bracket back in a few cm one way or other will this affect anythin depending were you tightened the three screws up ?
I'm unsure as i seem to remember that bracket has locating pin to locate it in the correct position, but whenever i do anything related to steering and suspension, if there is any give i always line up the heads of the bolts to the witness marks on the bracket or component so i know it is back in the same place. If you have any doubts when it is all done take the car to your local 4 wheel alignment garage, i use ATS where i am and get it 4 wheel lazer aligned it costs about £40 but shuld put your mind at ease. Yeh mart it has a massive locating pin but the bracket was still able to move slightly side to side yeh I would of marked up if I knew it had play , I’ll keep an eye on tyre wear and if it’s wearing one side I shall do that , thanks for your youtube on this problem !

Do you need to replace the pivot through-bolt when doing this? My kit didn't come with any.

A late reply, but for others it is advisable to replace the through-bolt because it is a stretch bolt (tightened to 80Nm + 120°) and hence like all stretch bolts should always be replaced as it permanently deforms on tightening. Of course, many (most?) don't so a choice for you to make. Others with OCD like myself might also want to do just do the bolts up finger tight and only torque them down once the weight is back on the wheels (or the workshop manual suggests sitting the trailing arms on axle stands for easier access). This puts the bush in an unstressed (not twisted) position whilst at rest. None of this detracts from the video though - a really great walkthrough.

easiest way to do this is to hit a chisel through the casing and then smack it in the middle with a hammer and it flies out takes 2 mins instead of doing this

Him how do you know the position of the bush? I mean where you have marked it with white.
There is a step in the side of the Bush, so i marked that point on the Bush then across the axel, then marked the same point on the new Bush, hope this helps

Yes to my knowledge, although thay advertise these bushes on ebay as mk7 and mk8 so might be the same wright up

Hello sorry but my technical system doesn't give me a torque setting for them bolts I'm afraid i just did them up firm with a half inch breaker bar. Thank you for watching

I believe it is the same setup but unsure if the bushes are the same. They could be more difficult to get out and new ones in the axel beam, i have not done them on the mk6 so not sure sorry.

No you don't need to touch the springs or shocks, you just lower the front of the suspention beam. Hope this helps marty
Might be easier to drill one hole then use a jigsaw through the hole to cut the rest

Hello and welcome to the channel, if you lie next to the vehicle with you head in line with the bushes (just in front of the rear wheel) and get someone to bounce the rear of the car ie open the boot and push down on the rear end, you should see the bushes flex as they twist, if the rubber turns on the centre aluminium part then you rubber is worn out an come unattached and the rubbing between the rubber and aluminium Centre part is what is causing the squeak.

Ok if these bushes are ok what could the noise etc be from the rear. I have new springs and new bushes on the top of the springs. It has recently passed a mot ?
@@toptinker22 other thing to check would be the shock absorber mounts ass well, of in doubt unbolt them on one end and bounce the car again.

What about the tracking?
This type of fixed beam suspension is non adjustable to my knowledge. But if you wanted to check it after the job you could get it lazer tracked. Thank you for watching
i take it you didnt realise you turn the tool round and that pushes the bush out as well as in .i dont both my rear bushes on my astra in an hour .dont put hacksaws or hammers n drills hear your axles if you damage them your bush will be loose .mot failure.
The tool i used wouldn't fit through the axel to pull it out no matter witch way around i had put it I'm afraid, thank you for watching
