David Wood, a prominent philosopher and Apologist interviewed Imam Tawhidi, a prominent Muslim Sheikh who has been speaking against extremism and advocate for reformation in Islam.
This was an interesting exchange, an interview that gives some insight into Tawhidi's mindset and mode of operation.

@@cscs9192 the Holy Spirit can certainly work within an unbeliever to make them realise their sin and their need for Jesus. But He certainly would not DWELL in an unbeliever. The person must first confess Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Christians trying to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ who advocated peace, his one of the titles actually Prince of Peace. So, there it is a religion with genuine peace - Christianity. Jesus never killed nor advocated violence. Instead, he was crucified, died and beaten death by raising after 3 days.

When your example as a person is evil and your religion is based on him and what he did...you will never chance the religion. Jesus is the perfect example because he never sinned...follow him.
It is nice to follow such a dialogue between two poles with such spontaneity and smoothness, but it will never be a dialogue between two compatible individuals, both men working within a specific agenda.
What happened was the convergence of the two agendas against an another agenda that was contrary to both of them, and this is unfortunately the problem of all Abrahamic sects, . The model of coexistence present by Mr. Tawhidi depends on the Gulf leaders themselves. If they replaced, or changed their opinions, coexistence will have no meaning. With all respect to Mr. Tawhidi’s point of view ,which arising from his fundamentalist education, I say that religious reform is possible, but by the standpoint of secular and rational Muslims, and it can give wonderful results if it is allowed without persecution or blackmail, but in a time and place fraught with crises like the Middle East, it is a sick joke. . If social reform has enthusiastic men like Mr. Tawhidi and the Gulf leaders, that is good, but it is only the beginning of creating a safe environment for the voice of reformist thinkers to be heard, of which there are many. Aside from the historical stereotyping of Islam, Islam, like all other religions, are essentially reformist movements. The only thing left is to allow the good diver to do his job safely .

How can David Wood say he thinks islam is peacecul and yet he himself says the teachings of Islam is not peaceful?
You must understand his point and not yours. Understand well. David is talking about how many people in Islam are good people. Not all are bads.
The Muslim people ignore the non peaceful tenants of their religion bc it is in their personal nature to be peaceful. Kinda like how people will be Christian then ignore the rules they dislike except in this case there’s a positive outcome.

This imam is in other words saying that unfriendly relationships, killing non Muslims existed only in the early Islamic era. Can he give us a quranic verse that abrogated the former verses taking that the world is advancing.

but how is this so? it wasn't written by him, nor during his life and he was illiterate as the quran says, which was written 661 years after his "life"??? (I ask because I'm confused by what he is stating)...thanks.
I think if you ask this imam, or any other decent Muslim person - "why do you need islam today?" - you won't get a comprehensible answer, apart from "to preserve the tradition"..

It will be interesting to read how wrong he is about saying violence should not be promoted in the name of religion, peaceful coexistence within people of different faiths is admirable etc.

The Word of God in the Bible is eternal. It is God’s Word, and God is omnipresent and omnipotent. He knows everything that would come before and after. We are to follow the Word of God, which, stated at the very end of the Bible, in revelation, that if anyone adds to or takes away from this book they will be cursed. If the Qur’an is the word of God, then why didn’t that God foresee the implications of a.) not being clear when stipulating if murdering Jews and Christians was to be abolished at a later time and b.) if the Islamic God is all seeing, all knowing, then why does Islam need to be reformed? The need to be reformed implies it is outdated and inaccurate. To my knowledge, the reformation in Christianity was to reorientate the Church (the people) back to following the Word of God, not reforming or reshaping the Word of God to fit with modern circumstances.
His teaching is not something new. Thats historical Shiaism. No punishment no jihad and definitely no khilaphah. I believe Shiaism is the most peaceful islamic sect and historically more authentic than other schools of islam

Hmm, i watched a few of this imams interviews over the last couple of month, im torn i think hes one of the ONLY ones id believe, but iv saw the line in the book that says they can deceive, and alot more of them do deceive than tell the truth, i just dont think you can afford to take a chance with islam, its to violent, im currently reading it myself.....

Mr Tawhidi has stated something that is incorrect, regarding what he mentioned as "christian laws" @47:43 mins...Nope, the "Laws" are from the Word of God, as God Instructed Humanity, His Creation to adhere to HIS LAWS, they are not "christian", which is the "created" as in man (kind), because man decides to FOLLOW CHRIST Yeshua, which is what Christian means. Man doesn't make "law"...he can twist it, yes, as we see here on planet earth, and why there is no TRUE JUSTICE here...Law came from God, because this is HIS ORDER. Perhaps Mr Tawhidi meant Christian Values? And mostly gentiles are "Christian"...God gave His Laws and Instructions (Feasts and Appointed times to the Jewish Covenant People First). They do not change, Like God Doesn't Change either, except when man is involved, as RELIGION adds to what God said to DO...and not to do...but that is a whole different "novel to write here"...and well, many people don't follow what God said to do...and why were in the PICKLE we are in right now...go figure...the Gospel is for Mr Tawhidi also...and if he is from the peoples he claims to be from, he is partially related to his Jewish brothers and sisters...and many of them do not accept Yeshua Jesus either...which causes the issues of today...

I think the imam lost me was when he started to say that only that only the pure ones are in a position to interpret the Quran. So we all should sit back and be spoon fed. So we can say that this Imam has no understanding of the Quran due to impure character.
I disagree that the books that he is reading form are the original Sahi Bukhari. These are some corrupted versions of the original Sahi Buqhari.
Can you point out his error(s) by referencing the truth from the original Buhari?
