Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

To quote Dr. Gabor Maté, don't ask why the addiction, ask why the pain. We are all so used to repressing and avoiding our emotions. We avoid the pain and so we suffer the consequences of our unhealthy coping mechanisms and addictions. It's a logical outcome in this toxic society.

I honestly love the comment section for this video and all the responses, positive and negative. Especially with cannabis. Iv been smoking pretty heavy since I stopped playing sports about 11 years ago. I’ll take breaks here and there, but somebody on this thread spoke to WHY I smoke. It’s literally to combat boredom. And at this point it was like a reflex even if I truly didn’t wanna smoke I did because of reflex and because I had time to spare. Iv always known how bad smoking is, but this video as well as you guys definitely made me quit. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever stop completely. But I wanna make it a healthier habit like drinking alcohol which I only do maybe a hand ful of times a year ( less than 4 times, don’t really like to drink) it’s only socially. But smoking just because your bored is somthing I had to stop doing it was restrictive, I do feel more anxiety, and feel a lot more like myself in socializing.

Edit: currently 7 days sober as of writing(2/3/24). I bought some more stuff and ran out but Im planning to go as long as possible and I'm very confident I can do so. It's helps seeing all the comments saying the same scenario that I was dealing with❤️. I grew up in second hand smoke. Not only that but my parents would allow us to have cigarettes if we rolled so many cigarettes for them. In other words we were given 1 cigarette per every 20 we would roll for them. Over half of my siblings went on to become heavy smokers, developing COPD early in life. This is where I say “there but the grace of God go I.” Watching an autopsy of smoker’s lungs in the sixth grade clinched it for me and I never smoked again. Unfortunately the damage was already done. I now have decreased pulmonary function and exercise induced asthma. I loved to run, but could never become great because of my compromised respiratory status. I finally had to give it up because the albuterol inhaler I would use to breathe would cause increased heart rate making it even more difficult to breathe. I love to garden but pushing wheelbarrows of mulch and carrying heavy things makes me wheeze. Do I wish I had never smoked, yes. Do I wish my parents did not subject my young developing lungs to second hand smoke, yes. When I see people smoking nowadays when everyone knows the health risks it makes me cringe. Why would anyone pay a billion dollar industry to kill them?

I got a peloton a few years ago and I definitely can exercise a lot harder without having severe asthma symptoms, I even do a bit of running on a treadmill now. I still have to abstain when it’s too hot or if we’re dealing with wildfires or anything but I can do a 30 min bike ride without collapsing now.

I get how beneficial some things are, and some people flat out need it to live, and as someone who suffers from migraines and anxiety I truly get it, HOWEVER I've never liked the idea of smoking anything. It drives me crazy when people swear it's not bad for you, but as far as I'm concerned anything that needs to be inhaled, that isn't air or life saving corticosteroids, isn't great for you. As a retired Respiratory Therapist, I agree whole heartedly with you! Inhaling ANYTHING other than the purest air is bad for our lungs, and to pretend otherwise is to volunteer as a lab rat so that the bad effects can be discovered decades later. In fact, even pure air isn't that great for our lungs, because of the oxidizing effects of the oxygen on our tissues, but our lungs have antioxidants to minimize that. When a person gets older, lungs naturally become less flexible, respiratory muscles become weaker, and decreased production of antioxidants leads to greater damage done by the oxygen we need to live. It's NOT a good idea to add more damage on top of what father time already loads on our bodies!

I grew up smoking with my cousins, and I smoked for almost 20 years. Also smoked a LOT of weed for most of that time. When I hit my 30s, I felt like my body had enough of me smoking and if I continued to smoke for another 10 years, I would start to really see harm. I used vaping to quit smoking and while that was effective, I could feel there was something not great about vaping. I finally quit vaping during the pandemic (also haven't touched weed in years), and I feel like my lungs started to feel "clean" a couple years after I quit vaping.

@@AnaesthesiaDoc well, the main reason she's been considering it (she HAS cut back on how much she smokes) is mostly money because cigs are very expensive 😭 so there's that, maybe you can point out that you'd be able to have more money to the side without cigarettes. Another is pointing out that she'll feel better without smoking, even if it takes some time. My boyfriend had a bit of a hard time but it wasn't as terrible as he feared. That was encouraging for my mom but she's still worried about wanting to eat more or less, turning to sugar, the fact that she can't chew gums because of her weak teeth, fear of turning to alcohol and other such things. I am fully willing to help her find alternatives such as going for a walk instead or writing poems (bc my mom really likes writing) or doing some light exercise and such. Even playing a boardgame! I think it's just important for us to a) present the facts without terrifying them and b) help them be less afraid of making the change and supporting them through it without judgement and with patience :) my mom is extremely stubborn too, so it took her some time to accept that she wants and needs to stop smoking. It also helped that I hate the smell and she truly does believe the dangers of secondhand smoke and she'd do anything for me and our cat. I helped her by pointing out her small successes like when she started smoking less even if it wasn't a huge difference

When I was 22 years old, I had a very vivid dream that I was terminally ill with lung cancer from smoking. In this dream my kids and wife were crying yet at that time I did not have a GF. This was when I stopped smoking because is scared the living hell out of me. I'm 62 now and going strong and never touched a smoke since.

I'm a long distance runner and once I hit 30 I would notice that running felt noticably more difficult for hours and even up to a day after smoking cannabis. I had already cut back quite a bit since my college days, but that drove me to stop completely. I still occasionally have edibles but never smoke.

@@jacoboreilly7526it isn’t a nicotine vape. Dry herb vape is a type of lil mini oven you put your bud into. Hit a button so it heats it up and burns it so you aren’t getting any negative feelings or combustion, and you’re good. It’s a lot more healthier than smoking bud in a bowl or anything else.

I've been watching you guys for a few months now and I've ALWAYS enjoyed all of them. Hearing you were/are a Marine, just puts icing on the cake!
It's good to know that there are fellow Marines out there in this field and spreading great information. Semper Fi, have a Dan Daily day, keep up the great work, and I need to chill out on smoking cannabis lol
