I like Puppet Combo for their understanding of aesthetic and atmosphere. When it comes to their games, they really know how to build suspense and keep you on your toes, even if the scares that ultimately break that anticipation are cheap and irritating to most people. Its their 80's VHS and Laser Disc, etc aesthetic that people appreciate because it captures a creepy vibe that many other games simply can't. Its like watching one of those OOOOH SPOOOKY CURSED VIDEO TAPE FOUND IN AN ABANDONED BLOCKBUSTER WOOOOOOH tapes that are just so incredibly cheesy that you're thinking to yourself "Pffft, I wouldn't be sacred. If Puppet Combo could just work on the scares themselves, as well as maybe filling out the worlds a little more, regardless of the PS1/cheesy VHS aesthetic they're trying to go for, then it could really benefit their work. I want to feel immersed in a horror game when I play it. For something like Nun Massacre, watching Vinny play it last night took me back to a time when I was 13 or so and would stay up watching Pewdiepie play Amnesia or things like that. It all felt new to me because I hadn't experienced anything like it at the time. I was actually on edge last night, and Nun Massacre, regardless of the loud bitch chasing Vinny down the halls, had my back erecting itself in anticipation of the knife swipes at his back, and the sense of panic that set in once she found him. I loved it! It evoked a sense of fear in me that I had thought long forgotten! Regardless of how bad the gameplay was, it was the aesthetic that I fell in love with, and I think its such a good game for it. Now one day I hope to make my own horror game, and use everything I've learned from watching games like this to create something that could be regarded as an instant classic. They have a nice idea with the 80's VHS style, and it's clear that they're trying to mimic old horror movies with the sound design and some of the weird quirks the games have (Like Babysitter Bloodbath having multiple screens to show the killer's POV along with your standard gameplay camera), but the games are just really bad. Audio mixing is all over the place, especially with the irritating flaw of "Jumpscare sounds being 3x louder than everything else in the game", most notably with Babysitter Bloodbath and Power Drill Massacre. The gameplay itself is just boring, and avoiding the killers is either a major pain in the ass or laughably easy. And as we saw from the stream, the games can be pretty glitchy. let's be honest puppet combo really has only 2 games. 1. you are trapped in some spooky place and have to run and/or hide from some sort of evil entity(either a monster or some sort of murderer) 2. you are the entity that's it.
They probably make these as a hobby. You have no idea how difficult game development is, how long it takes to go through each stage of production, to iron out any kinks when new features are implemented and to design everything from scratch. It's a great undertaking. The people making these games probably have real jobs and other responsibilities irl to do as well as making these games. Take what you're given and don't complain. These people aren't AAA developers. Go into games with an open mind. If you go in with a certain expectation you're almost certain to be disappointed.
I'm gonna be honest, the games look and sound great, but they're kind of trash game-play wise. They're just broken and tedious. If the developer in addition to making great visuals could also make great _games_ we would have some absolute gold though!
All modern AAA games are broken, tedious, and there's nothing really there. Except they don't even have good looks or good sounds, or anything original worth looking at.
@@QcHyperShock The funny thing is, the games shown here are their best games. The new ones go down in visual and gameplay quality. * Fuck. Basic literacy.
I've watched a couple different people on youtube try to play nun massacre and every single one encountered the nun right near the start and just kept getting killed by her until they gave up
There are a few good episodes imo. The “normal/seemingly normal person getting roped into something really bad” plots (National Anthem and Shut Up And Dance, for example) are pretty solid as a whole. I feel like BM is at its best when it deals with actual modern technology, and it gets shakier the more it strays from that into fantastic/speculative tech. Or like, the best episodes are the ones where the characters keep the plot going, not the gadgetry. Jabberwocky was great because the focus of the plot was the main character and his mental illness, and through that lens, the viewer starts to see things from his POV and question if anyone in his life isn't keeping secrets from him at best or is just plain toxic at worst. The fact that his work is technology-based is almost completely irrelevant to the actual story, and game development could easily be replaced with another form of creatively-oriented career with little to no issue. Also, and I know that I'm in the minority here, but I really liked Nosedive. It's just so goddamn kitschy and out-of-there that you can't take it seriously.
1000000 Credits, or whatever it's called, is BM at its best imo, since it's about current society, exaggerated with future stuff (the poor literally spin bicycle wheels until they have a heart attack). Some episodes are complete garbage because they focus on the technology, rather than on the people using it (Black History Museum had plots about how the personality transplant thingy had obvious flaws; it's not about a perfect future going wrong because of people)
Night Killer I think I picked up on what they were going for in Black Museum, but they were just so focused on making the Big Crossover Episode that they neglected the actual plot, and it just became "you know all those episodes that end with people _implied_ to be trapped forever in a personal hell, well guess what, you were completely right and now we're gonna beat you over the head with it”. Brooker is definitely better when he uses the series' recurring motifs subtly, like how the glyph in White Bear becomes a symbol representing choices and paths in Jabberwocky.
I’m reading the comments and people say he encounters glitches that’s super disappointing man I’m sad Also everyone saying mean things about puppet combo games that’s sad :(
Puppet combo games kinda disturb me , especially nightcrawler, being a young woman walking in a city at night while some guy slowly chases you, ugh it's so scary omg
nah it one of there best, almost basically a full game, and doesn't have the god awful controls like power drill massacre the glitches are bearable and only happen a few times
also there was no real glitch with vinny, killer speed was normal, he wasn't using adrenaline correctly and thus enter panic mode which of course the killer would outspeed him he even said it wasn't bad just that he didn't understand how the mechanic worked
Puppet Combo seems to be a team of people that really enjoys 80s horror in all sorts of ways. Also Duck Murderer, this is one odd way to get out of Untitled Goose Game.
Vinny would have fared better with Nightripper if he actually ran away instead of standing still letting himself be stabbed. Also: If you do decide to look into Amnesia custom stories, two very good ones are “A Late Night Drink” and “The Great Work.”
SCP Containment Breach isn't that spooky, to be honest. It's just frantically running around and slowly getting annoyed by the monsters, objects that you have to find, limited inventory space and puzzles that you have to figure out.
@@blobbem Thank you. As someone who's been part of the SCP:CB community ever since it was released, while I will always have a soft spot for that game it's really not that great. It started off pretty decently, and I'll give it some credit since it was part of the rise of indie horror games (it came out before Slender: The Eight Pages and I'm fairly certain it inspired that game to some extent) and I suppose it isn't the worst free indie horror game out there, but at this point I'm sure you could do better, especially if you're willing to spend even a few dollars. The game has some cool events but that's all it's good for at this point in all honestly.
@@Anodoni My experiences with Containment Breach are fairly limited compared to others, but I did play it when it was relatively fresh and I've also recently played it again. The game's lore is arguably its strongest point, and I do love the concept of trying to escape the facility as a lowly Class-D personnel, but god damn am I lost. RNG levels and items paired with how the monsters gradually start to dogpile you are slowly making me hate the game. Probably doesn't help how I've been playing the "Ultimate Edition" that adds more SCPs to completely ruin my fun.
honest opinion their games are total trash the only thing they have going for is their looks. which in my opinion are way too exaggerated in their "look i'm an old spooky VHS" look which makes it look bad in result. and those textures, i mean sure PS1 had texture warping but what they use in their games is way too heavy and just looks like a bad trip. most of them are barely playable and are littered with unpolished code\design. and the only reason why they are "scary" is because everytime the bad guys appear they make fucking awful earrape sounds of course you're gonna jump from that.
@@pickywho the appeal of these games is that they are kind of trash tho Dont take this as me defending the horrible glitchy ness of their games, all I'm saying is that the whole aesthetic is supposed to be goofy little parody shitfests
will agree to some extent, not all their game are trash, but they do have a reputation of not completing most of them which of course would leave them buggy and unpolish. the scare technique I see no problem with it and it does have a great atmosphere with the art style of ps1 helping with it, the real problem with it they are becoming too over-reliant on it, that it becomes too repetitive and the games start to almost become a reskin

1. you are trapped in some spooky place and have to run and/or hide from some sort of evil entity(either a monster or some sort of murderer)
2. you are the entity
that's it.
the style is amazing though, honestly.
but i wish he would collab with someone on a bigger project that had like.....actual gameplay
@@bleach186 It doesn't help if they planned from the start to make shit fests that just scream at you in a vain attempt to scare you.
@@qwerty343d5 well they scare me, the chase is nerve destroying.
Imagine going to a Grindhouse film or a watching a Troma movie and expecting something entirely different, kind of how most of these comments read
Thank VERY Much Vincent! My Clan and I enjoyed the haha funny moments!
Same dev same ear rapes
I'm gonna be honest, the games look and sound great, but they're kind of trash game-play wise. They're just broken and tedious. If the developer in addition to making great visuals could also make great _games_ we would have some absolute gold though!
All modern AAA games are broken, tedious, and there's nothing really there. Except they don't even have good looks or good sounds, or anything original worth looking at.
the funny thing is they are there best games the new one go down in quality well gameplay wise
@@dimitar4y ok.
@@QcHyperShock The funny thing is, the games shown here are their best games. The new ones go down in visual and gameplay quality. * Fuck. Basic literacy.
@@zix1257 "my intellekt is ok" to quote you.
46:38 did they use textures with dhgate watermarks on?
Oh shit FOR REAL
3 minutes of a man trying to find a singular coin.
That's Pupper Combo's games for you.
Interesting ideas, excellent PS1 visuals, LOUD AS ALL HELL sounds and horrid gameplay.
Love me some dog combo
*default unity character animations intensifies*
I've watched a couple different people on youtube try to play nun massacre and every single one encountered the nun right near the start and just kept getting killed by her until they gave up
Black Mirror really isn't that good. "Technology Bad: The Show" is a pretty accurate way to describe it.
Puppet Combo and M. Dickie should collab on a game together one day.
I’m reading the comments and people say he encounters glitches that’s super disappointing man I’m sad
Also everyone saying mean things about puppet combo games that’s sad :(
Vinny: ...hmm
Vinny's heart: Oh... false alarm then-...
Game: _I'm about to ruin this man's whole career_
Dashie: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!*
CoryxKenshin: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!*
Vinny: I play spook gaem
The first game reminded me of how crazy I’ve gotten about dark deception recently.
That's what it reminded me of! I wonder when that's getting its new chapter.

@@TheDeadlySavant Oooh! Thank you!
I think the PSX filter is the only one in these games that is not totally overblown. They could've tuned it down a bit and it would've still worked
The game did not glitch for the first game chat didn’t tell vin that he had to spam click a certain button to keep calm
I love how Vinny straight up walked into where the Nun spawns and just calmly walked out before she started chasing him 💀💀💀💀💀
Puppet combo games kinda disturb me , especially nightcrawler, being a young woman walking in a city at night while some guy slowly chases you, ugh it's so scary omg
radchoco NightRipper*
HELL yeah. I love me some Puppet Combo games. Ever since Powerdrill Massacre!

Evil clowns is very dark deception
"Vinny, My fellow Nazis said New York is populated mostly by giant mutant rat people, is this true?"
the nightripper was inspired by a real event, where a man would trick prostitutes, kill them, then took they're eyes

How can I watch the jump scare part it was so loud
I remember hearing about lost in vivo from the dev since i was really into Spooky’s Jumpscare mansion
Oh god I forgot how bad Night Ripper was, probably one of Puppet Combos worst games
nah it one of there best, almost basically a full game, and doesn't have the god awful controls like power drill massacre
the glitches are bearable and only happen a few times
@@spinozilla2421 both times I've seen it (here and SBFP) it's been EXTREMELY buggy, ive never really had the chance to watch it without glitches lmao
@@mothermushroom_I've seen in john wolf only once with the ending and so far nothing notable in Scicorman play though or my own playing it
also there was no real glitch with vinny, killer speed was normal, he wasn't using adrenaline correctly and thus enter panic mode which of course the killer would outspeed him
he even said it wasn't bad just that he didn't understand how the mechanic worked
Strip Dancer of the Frigid Valley Check out John Wolfe playing it. He plays some others too, I know you’ll enjoy. :)

Total silence for 20 seconds to 6:24
Puppet Combo seems to be a team of people that really enjoys 80s horror in all sorts of ways.
Also Duck Murderer, this is one odd way to get out of Untitled Goose Game.
KamiJoJo it’s one guy
White night is great custom story for amnesia
Vinny would have fared better with Nightripper if he actually ran away instead of standing still letting himself be stabbed.
Also: If you do decide to look into Amnesia custom stories, two very good ones are “A Late Night Drink” and “The Great Work.”
joker movie looks great
if he wants spoops he should revisit scp containment breach
What about that multiplayer one? Heard its good
Nice noise at the end
Yeah just a casual barbwire trap in the christian steeple.. nothing weird here
Nah just for sinners xd
Vineshroom with fangs is super cute.
Ugh, I think this is gonna have to be an audio only experience for me... my nausea is kicking in real hard just from the first game.

Fuckin vinny always breakin tha shitty games in the best way :v
binyot give me the forbidden amnesia streams
Welp I'm in for a treat
Ah yes, authentic 16:9 PSX game
honest opinion
their games are total trash
the only thing they have going for is their looks.
which in my opinion are way too exaggerated in their "look i'm an old spooky VHS" look which makes it look bad in result.
and those textures, i mean sure PS1 had texture warping but what they use in their games is way too heavy and just looks like a bad trip.
most of them are barely playable and are littered with unpolished code\design.
and the only reason why they are "scary" is because everytime the bad guys appear they make fucking awful earrape sounds
of course you're gonna jump from that.
@@pickywho the appeal of these games is that they are kind of trash tho
Dont take this as me defending the horrible glitchy ness of their games, all I'm saying is that the whole aesthetic is supposed to be goofy little parody shitfests
will agree to some extent, not all their game are trash, but they do have a reputation of not completing most of them which of course would leave them buggy and unpolish. the scare technique I see no problem with it and it does have a great atmosphere with the art style of ps1 helping with it, the real problem with it they are becoming too over-reliant on it, that it becomes too repetitive and the games start to almost become a reskin
@Xinus22 you must be fun at parties
Xinus22 Fair enough but one man created these games by himself. That really puts it in perspective for me at least
