Hi Caroline! Photographer and nerd here, and I think I can explain your orbs photo! Your camera tests that you did afterward were great - you were just missing one ingredient: dust. Dust in the air acts a lot like a blizzard or fog or even smoke - it reflects a lot of light. It's easiest to see it at work when we're driving. If we drive into a blizzard or a cloud of dust, we don't just lose visibility - we get blinded by the reflection of our own headlights because so much light is thrown right back at our eyes. Dust in the air will do the same thing with a camera flash. Every tiny mote throws back a brilliant, tiny reflection. But then a second effect kicks in - how cameras (and eyes) process light if the source of the light is not in focus. With our eyes, it's obvious for those of us that wear glasses. If we look at lights at night with our glasses and then without them, the lights soften and glow and look larger and more diffused. The same effect can be seen with cameras if we look at pictures that include Christmas lights. If the camera is focused on the lightbulbs, it looks like a flat photo fit for a customer review on a website selling strings of lights. But if the focus is on people or a puppy with the Christmas lights twinkling in the background, each bulb's light softens, glows, and grows into a larger, more diffuse field of light that makes for magical backgrounds. So when you took your photo, there was dust in the air, as is required for catacombs. The dust particles close to the camera very effectively reflected the flash back towards the lens as tiny flashes of light. But because they were closer than the subject of the photo where the camera was focused, those tiny flashes of light were diffused and blown up into larger, glowy, floating orbs that defy the logic of normal perception. It's easy to see why it was so spooky to experience. The same effects are used in horror movies and magic shows to mess with our perception and create the sense of an altered reality where logic can't work. It's a mind-bending situation even before you add cousins. :)
To be honest, there are videos that I put on and "listen" to while i do other things.. .but videos like yours, your personality is so engaging that I need to sit down and watch like a TV show because you've got to have all my attention LOL!

Yes, antiques with attachments. I was attracted to a larger curio cabinet at a store in Birmingham, AL-I did not buy it. I’m from Natchez, MS (haunted antebellum house capitol. Lol), returned 6 months later and the cabinet was still there. I bought it. Upon getting home the former owner called me and said she was told I had purchased it. Where did I have it? Was it in my dining room? Could I take a picture of it when it was installed?!?! I was pretty nervous at this point. It sat in my dining room on the floor for ages as my 3 cats would line up in front of it and stare for 30 minutes. What?!??? My adult daughter suggested we do the sage treatment with an open door or window for the attachment to leave the house. My cats had no interest in the cabinet after that…just saying.

The longer I live, the more clear it becomes that no one knows what they’re doing. Some people just pretend harder. We’re all just giant children with jobs and responsibilities I think
I have also struggled with always feeling lonely, even though I have a very full life and great friendships. Working with a therapist I realized that the loneliness comes from not having someone who GETS me 100%. My family and friends love and appreciate me but don’t always understand where I’m coming from and feeling like I have to explain is tiring and makes me question if I’m just a weirdo. But, I’m not, and you’re not, we are just complex humans living in a complex world and that in itself is isolating and lonely! All that to say, I think you feel lonely because you have an incredibly unique perspective but thanks for sharing your life because it seems like a lot of us really resonate with you. So we can all be lonely together haha.
Caroline, I started watching your videos for the interior decorating and was not at all interested in the dating commentary at first but then somehow got sucked into ALL of it and honestly I feel like I'm watching a new genre come to life. The through line in all of your videos--dealing with depression, ghosts, a failed career (acting), a failed relationship (OH), finding love, your apartment, and interior decorating--is a story of a young woman coming into her own. The interior decorating is just the metaphor and the concrete manifestation of you coming into your own. You don't need to write a book. These youtube videos are already communicating the reflection and journey and struggle pretty beautifully.

Omg I’ve been thinking this!! Idk why but she reminds me of how I used to be as a little kid like before age 8. I wanna go back to that. So brave and just good and funny and unafraid and crafty etc. I think this is why I watch this channel. It feels comforting like watching a version of me that could have existed if my parents hadn’t abused me so much that I had to abandon my personality. I love how real you are on your channel! I feel like i’m just hanging with a good friend watching your vids. To answer your question, I watch while running on the treadmill, doing skincare/hair care in the bathroom, and sometimes I just sit and watch on the couch but usually some sort of multitask. I wouldn’t mind them being longer even if it’s similar amount of content to now!

When I was young I felt in the dark . It wasn't until I got older that I realized I sometimes our life choices make us feel the darkness . I think I had to feel the darkness to appreciate the light. I think the "orbs" in night photos are midges that show up in the flash in some areas. They were everywhere like that in Spain on holiday at night walking up a hill in almost pitch darkness on the didital camera, but not in other photos. Hearing your description I feel like I figured out what was in my photo, all different sizes, everywhere and not visible in reality

I identified with every second of this video and think you have the perfect combination of boring realness and intrigue. I could listen to your existential tangents for 30 minutes straight. For someone who is a happy/productive loner by nature, it's exactly the kind of content I look to validate my niche approach to life... If that makes sense? No matter how interesting the content is, I often lose interest at about the 30 minute mark. Also, I feel the spooky paranoia! I used to pull the covers over my head in that exact way lol. As someone from Georgia, I think "y'all" is a wonderful term. I came back to comment on lead in vintage glassware. Someone had posted about it on one of your videos. Depends on the day. Sometimes I listen to you to doze off. Sometimes to lift me up. It can feel depressing and soul crushing even on a beautiful sunny summer day. It wears on you as a person, but YOU usher in a feeling of light, bright chaos that myself and others need SO BADLY. Sometimes I watch you (like today 🤣) because I TOO am haunted LOL

It's funny you talk about loneliness in this video, because while watching some of your other videos I actually thought that you might have been, or at least felt, lonely quite a bit in your life. Why did I think that? Because you're an expert at talking to yourself, which quite frankly most youtubers aren't. And that skill is also why your content is so good and why you're so funny, and at least to me why you're so very relatable.
The way I receive your vids: it depends on what type of day I’m having. Often I watch/listen on my phone as I’m cooking, doing my hair&makeup, or little things like that. Those are your more talky videos. But for your makeover videos and project videos, those go up on the big screen and even my 2 year old enjoys them 😊 It’s like watching HGTV without the fake ness 😂 Plus you’re funny, it’s personal, and you sprinkle in lots of life tidbits like mental health and raw vulnerable life details. You’re likable. Effortlessly. So we have you on all the time. You usually start my day or pump me up while I’m getting ready to go somewhere 😂❤❤❤ *also after a long day of being a mom, my favorite thing to do is get a glass of wine and put you on the tv and watch every single one of your project videos and makeover videos. Hi Caroline! Photographer and nerd here, and I think I can explain your orbs photo! Your camera tests that you did afterward were great - you were just missing one ingredient: dust.
Dust in the air acts a lot like a blizzard or fog or even smoke - it reflects a lot of light. It's easiest to see it at work when we're driving. If we drive into a blizzard or a cloud of dust, we don't just lose visibility - we get blinded by the reflection of our own headlights because so much light is thrown right back at our eyes. Dust in the air will do the same thing with a camera flash. Every tiny mote throws back a brilliant, tiny reflection.
But then a second effect kicks in - how cameras (and eyes) process light if the source of the light is not in focus. With our eyes, it's obvious for those of us that wear glasses. If we look at lights at night with our glasses and then without them, the lights soften and glow and look larger and more diffused. The same effect can be seen with cameras if we look at pictures that include Christmas lights. If the camera is focused on the lightbulbs, it looks like a flat photo fit for a customer review on a website selling strings of lights. But if the focus is on people or a puppy with the Christmas lights twinkling in the background, each bulb's light softens, glows, and grows into a larger, more diffuse field of light that makes for magical backgrounds.
So when you took your photo, there was dust in the air, as is required for catacombs. The dust particles close to the camera very effectively reflected the flash back towards the lens as tiny flashes of light. But because they were closer than the subject of the photo where the camera was focused, those tiny flashes of light were diffused and blown up into larger, glowy, floating orbs that defy the logic of normal perception.
It's easy to see why it was so spooky to experience. The same effects are used in horror movies and magic shows to mess with our perception and create the sense of an altered reality where logic can't work. It's a mind-bending situation even before you add cousins. :)

Yes, antiques with attachments. I was attracted to a larger curio cabinet at a store in Birmingham, AL-I did not buy it. I’m from Natchez, MS (haunted antebellum house capitol. Lol), returned 6 months later and the cabinet was still there. I bought it. Upon getting home the former owner called me and said she was told I had purchased it. Where did I have it? Was it in my dining room? Could I take a picture of it when it was installed?!?! I was pretty nervous at this point. It sat in my dining room on the floor for ages as my 3 cats would line up in front of it and stare for 30 minutes. What?!???
My adult daughter suggested we do the sage treatment with an open door or window for the attachment to leave the house. My cats had no interest in the cabinet after that…just saying.

The longer I live, the more clear it becomes that no one knows what they’re doing. Some people just pretend harder. We’re all just giant children with jobs and responsibilities I think
I have also struggled with always feeling lonely, even though I have a very full life and great friendships. Working with a therapist I realized that the loneliness comes from not having someone who GETS me 100%. My family and friends love and appreciate me but don’t always understand where I’m coming from and feeling like I have to explain is tiring and makes me question if I’m just a weirdo. But, I’m not, and you’re not, we are just complex humans living in a complex world and that in itself is isolating and lonely! All that to say, I think you feel lonely because you have an incredibly unique perspective but thanks for sharing your life because it seems like a lot of us really resonate with you. So we can all be lonely together haha.
Caroline, I started watching your videos for the interior decorating and was not at all interested in the dating commentary at first but then somehow got sucked into ALL of it and honestly I feel like I'm watching a new genre come to life. The through line in all of your videos--dealing with depression, ghosts, a failed career (acting), a failed relationship (OH), finding love, your apartment, and interior decorating--is a story of a young woman coming into her own. The interior decorating is just the metaphor and the concrete manifestation of you coming into your own. You don't need to write a book. These youtube videos are already communicating the reflection and journey and struggle pretty beautifully.

Omg I’ve been thinking this!! Idk why but she reminds me of how I used to be as a little kid like before age 8. I wanna go back to that. To answer your question, I watch while running on the treadmill, doing skincare/hair care in the bathroom, and sometimes I just sit and watch on the couch but usually some sort of multitask. When I was young I felt in the dark . It wasn't until I got older that I realized I sometimes our life choices make us feel the darkness . I think I had to feel the darkness to appreciate the light. I think the "orbs" in night photos are midges that show up in the flash in some areas. They were everywhere like that in Spain on holiday at night walking up a hill in almost pitch darkness on the didital camera, but not in other photos. Hearing your description I feel like I figured out what was in my photo, all different sizes, everywhere and not visible in reality

It's funny you talk about loneliness in this video, because while watching some of your other videos I actually thought that you might have been, or at least felt, lonely quite a bit in your life. Why did I think that? Because you're an expert at talking to yourself, which quite frankly most youtubers aren't. And that skill is also why your content is so good and why you're so funny, and at least to me why you're so very relatable.
The way I receive your vids: it depends on what type of day I’m having. Often I watch/listen on my phone as I’m cooking, doing my hair&makeup, or little things like that. Those are your more talky videos. But for your makeover videos and project videos, those go up on the big screen and even my 2 year old enjoys them 😊 It’s like watching HGTV without the fake ness 😂 Plus you’re funny, it’s personal, and you sprinkle in lots of life tidbits like mental health and raw vulnerable life details. You’re likable. Effortlessly. So we have you on all the time. You usually start my day or pump me up while I’m getting ready to go somewhere 😂❤❤❤
*also after a long day of being a mom, my favorite thing to do is get a glass of wine and put you on the tv and watch every single one of your project videos and makeover videos. Those are super entertaining for me Bc I am a huge fan of before and afters. You’re part of my self care routine 🧘🏻♀️
