Unless someone is doing heavy rock crawling or heavy swamp overlanding, I think the Ranger is better in basically every other situation (including on road to drive to your destinations or as a daily, which can’t be overlooked). Think the Bison is amazing absolutely perfect for a select niche crew, those looking for a great super mid size truck though the Raptor is the one.

What I will say is that a better comparison between the two in regards to equipment is the regular ZR two because the payload is at between 14 and 1500 pounds towing capacity is 6500 pounds you get less skid plates and you don't get the 35s but It's a better comparison although the ZR2 regularly is around 46,000 start out

Is the $10k delta significant when you consider the AEV upgrades, superior DSSV shocks, 35 inch tires, superior camera system, physical buttons, increased suspension flex, rear vents, etc etc etc.
Does either have a heads up display? Does the sun reflect off the dash and cause glare for the driver?

In that case, either of these tucks will do.
As for me, I was also looking for a mid-size "Top Dog/off-road-focused/serious 4x4" truck (back in 2021)...got a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Only the ZR2 was out then -- "technically" available but in reality NOT available due to the chip-shortage) -- there were no Broncos of any kind (just Ford advertising hype/vaporware for almost 2 years) or Ranger Raptor.
Looking at these two trucks, were I buying today I'd still go with a Jeep Gladiator. So far, it's been fine -- no regrets, disappointments or buyer's remorse -- and WAY cheaper in early 2021 than they are now. I'll be keeping it for quite some time...

The reason the Ford has such better payload than the Chevy is due to all of the off-road specific AEV items on the Bison. Add 35s, heavy duty bumpers, rock rails, underbody armor, etc, to the Ford and the weight will go up quickly, eating into its payload numbers. I realize this is a comparison of off the showroom vehicles, & it’s fair, but if anyone’s planning on adding that stuff to the ford (I know I’d at least want to replace its plastic “skidplates” with metal), it’s worth noting that the payload number can tumble quickly. Good overall comparison though, as usual man.

This is a bad comparison when it comes to price. I just got my 2024 ZR2 ($54K) ALL the bells and whistles. You get a little bit more armure and bigger tires at a very high price with the Bison. Sure the Raptor has more HP... Fine, IMO... I want the off-road capability and I think that is were the ZR2 shines above the Raptor. And it looks WAY more beautiful. Raptor has NO personality in looks. Just opinion, both bad A!@ trucks. Turds just got a slap in the arse. :)

  • @kx8960
    @kx8960 25 дней назад +32

I chose a 2024 "regular", fully-loaded w/moonroof, paint protection, window tint, wheel locks blue ZR2, for the $53k MSRP I paid. The moonroof was over $1k and the Raptor doesn't offer one. Not a deal-breaker for me, but I love them. The $6k difference equally equipped plus the inevitable absurd markup ($10k or so) for us that are NOT RUclips famous, made that my choice. Yes, the Ranger Raptor is badass, and I considered one....until I got wind of the markups. Hard nope. For the money I saved, I'll put 285/75/17's (34's) on it because that oem width on the OEM rims should fit in the OEM spare location, and maybe I'll get a mild 1-2" lift, a gas tank and an aluminum rear diff skidplate and maybe a mild engine tune, and I'll have 99% of the Bison at a fraction of the cost. I find the power very adequate, especially at elevation, but I figure a mild tune (performance airbox/filter and cat-back exhaust, maybe a slight ECU re-map) will get me closer to the Raptor (which REQUIRES premium if I remember) and I consider the suspension equal. I'm very much a noob wheeler, and after 3 days in Moab and another in Colorado, it handled everything I threw at it (couple steep bumpy climbs) like it was nothing. WAY more capable than I am, and I plan to get better and grow into it. Nice vid as always, keep 'em coming!

Not a real fan of Bose, and the base system sounds pretty decent, but I would have paid the extra $500. I would have PREFERRED to have a factory upgrade to B&O (like I think the Raptor has - I have an '80's Beogram 5500 turntable I love), or maybe Focal speakers (like in my home theater), but it's ok. I'll probably keep the stock head unit and upgrade to Focals if possible. If price is an issue, get a regular ZR2. I don't dislike the Raptor (it was on my shortlist)... and the Bison is overkill... so the REAL winner is the standard ZR2 - you get 95% the capability of the Bison at 88% the cost of the Raptor (even cheaper if you factor in dealer markups). Also it’s would be cheaper to replace said parts if they get damaged. Leather ain’t cheap either.

Good video. For my driving it would be the Ranger Raptor. Don't like the on screen locker controls but I would go with it. Manual passenger seat on the bison? No bueno. Interested to see how they age 3-5 years & retain value. Everyone love their trucks when they are brand new.

Neither. I was at this cross road, and I ended up ordering a 2024 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss. it comes standard with the Turbo Max engine (430 torque), 7,700 towing, 1,610 payload, and a factory 2" lift and starts at $39K. Granted, it doesn't have a manual rear locker, but the standard G80 does a good job in most situation. I have been to MOAB twice and have done a few trails there. I spend 99% of my time driving around town and hauling my Jetski/bass boat/trailer. The Colorado offers 4x4 AUTO in the Trail Boss trim for bad weather driving, whereas the FORD only offer that in the upper Raptor trim. Also, only the Colorado is flat towable behind a motorhome. FORD Ranger is NOT flat towable. That was the deal breaker for me. I owned FORDs my entire life and currently drives an F150. IMO, the Trail Boss is the best value in the line up. However, if I had to pick from these 2 trucks, I would go with the regular ZR2 for a lot less money and no FORD dealer markups.

The cab link legroom wise in the Ranger raptor is 34.9. The cab link in regards to legroom for the Colorado ZR2 is 34.7 shows about 4 inches difference so somebody's either lying if it's unintentional it's all right but the numbers don't lie and the head room is the same in the rear

Two very nice trucks. If I had to pick between the two, it would be tricky. That said, I just wish I could transplant the Raptors engine into my '21 Ranger Tremor. Anyone doing the Coyote swap in the USA? Overseas there was a company. I prefer the front end and interior of my Ranger but love the rest of the exterior of the new Ranger Raptor.
Orange interior accent is a deal breaker for me though. Ford needs to figure out their design language. My Tremor is red accent, the f150 tremor is orange. The f150 Raptor is red and the Ranger Raptor is orange. Orange accents is a deal breaker for me, even if it was red, I would prefer it to be more subtle like in the F150 Raptor. There is just so much of the orange in the Ranger R that it would be hard to overlook day to day.

I think the Bison is the better rock crawler and the Raptor is better in the fast stuff, that includes the street. If you want to rat around on the street, the Raptors is quicker and handles much better. You just have to figure out what you want to compromise on including the price.

I do agree that having the spare in the bed eats up space in the chevy BUT if you are willing to spend a couple hundrd dollars you can put a spare tire caddybin your trailer hitch reciever and problem solved AND if you do need your spare its readily accessible....contrast that with a spare under the truck...if you are in deep mud or whatever , having the spare right there is handy. The caddy also tilts away to allow access to the bed. I might buy one for my Tundra. The chevy is a sharp looking truck. I used to say Toyota wins with reliability but now its a crap shoot. The new Tacoma might be a dog...so throw a dart at the board.

The winners here are the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500 regular cab short bed trucks. Mild lift, wheels and tires and your all around better for $10-15k less.
