About 300 miles into oil in a ‘03 Toyota matrix with 350k on it. Already seeing some baked on deposits coming off the baffle in the oil fill hole. Gotta say it’s working.
Ironically my ‘12 Tacoma with 166k is dirtier with the same amount of mileage on the oil. Looking in that oil fill hole everything looks like shiny metal, no deposits. So maybe the cleaning is taking place at the pistons.
Is your matrix a 1.8 or 2.4L. just bought a 09 2.4L vibe, with the known oil consumption issue. I just changed with standard synthetic oil. Will check for consumption. If it does, I may try this Valvoline product
I began using Valvoline Restore and Protect in all my family's cars this past oil change in late July. I got into it specifically to see if I could help the oil consumption in our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. I'm about to change the oil again on the Hyundai after only 1500 miles because the oil has gotten much darker very quickly. I suspect it's doing a ton of cleaning. Plus my oil consumption has slowed too! I'm excited to see what round 2 of Valvoline R&P is gonna do from here. My 2012 Mazda 5 has been responding really well to this oil too. It feels like it has much more power. The zoom zoom is back!
@@mattyingling9020I haven’t done the piston soak yet as I’m hoping this oil will do the job. But if after 3 oil changes it hasn’t fixed anything, then I’ll do the soak. I’m a little scared to do the soak as I’ve never done anything quite like it, but I’m going to give it a try if needed.
Vavoline is very good oil.. I’m my Corolla GR performance turbocharged car I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum also great oil and I change the oil every 2500 miles.
Honda oil filters are rebranded Fram. Good enough for 3,000 miles I suppose. I definitely would not pay OEM prices however. Save your money and do more frequent oil changes, especially with typical Honda fuel dilution issues.
Really enjoyed your video, just a thought here, while using your device if you raised the material you're looking at maybe a half an inch, would the light shine through ? Maybe give a more see-through look of the media ? I don't know what I'm talking about here but maybe give it a try . 👍
Thanks for the comment. About the filter media and a microscope you couldn't really see through it. Maybe there might be a way I can shave some off so we can kind of get a look inside of it. But the microscope I have is only 1200x so it's not that powerful anyway but it's worth maybe giving it a try at some point in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

Its too bad the microscope doesn't have a laser cross hair to assist in centering the subject easier. Also, I use FilterMags on my oil filters where I can. When you cut open the filter you can see a black shadow of captured ferrous dust on the inside of the metal cannister directly reflecting the location of the magnets. I'd be curious what that "dust" looks like under magnification.
Yeah this is a budget scope so it is lacking a lot of features but it still gets the job done. I have to look into the FilterMags I never heard of them! If my curious what they dust looks like as well!
@oneanddonediy The FilterMags are kinda spendy, but they work and they're very convenient. You can do the same think with neodymium magnets off of Amazon for 1/2 the cost, but it's kinda time consuming placing enough of them on the filter to get the same effect. The individual magnets want to grab on to each other.
You ain't lying. Those filtermags are quite pricey ... 'The juice ain't worth the squeeze' I may consider one at a later date, but in all honesty I may not buy one for sure and that's a lot of money just for A magnet but I did see these here that look quite promising amzn.to/3XqKDED
@oneanddonediy yeah, I've tried one of those, they don't work nearly as well. But depending on your app, you may not have room for anything but those. The magnets not as strong as FilterMags, and depending on your filter's bypass design, it might interfere with its operation.

@@oneanddonediy what kind of code would a clogged filter give? I don't even know how an oil filter would go into bypass mode. Clogged cats would affect driveability quickly. Would a clogged filter be easy to notice without a CEL based off performance?
@DominiAeternum My guess would be that there will be a great change in oil pressure and the check engine light will come on but it has never happened to me so I don't know but people have been reporting that they are filtering, went into bypass mode and one guy was even a mechanic that stated this.

Will be interesting to see on a microscopic level how much sludge the Restore & Protect oil removes. I'd love to have one of those microscopes and a pair of surgical tweezers if nothing else but to be able to easily remove slivers when i get them! 🤣🤣
Yes I wish I had a microscope that powerful to see the sludge actually suspended in solution. But anyway, go ahead and get you a microscope on some tweezers you'll love it!

They basically are treating it as a "Regular" API SP/GF-6 Oil not as an Engine Flush and that to properly clean will take continued use (at least 4 Change Intervals) to gain the 100% Deposit Removal... They also claim that the Oil Filter will not clog if changed at the regular intervals(s). The additive package apparently breaking it down and keeping it from reforming...

@@oneanddonediy First treatment. Same here after a long 7hr trip. I noticed more compression & lesser noise from the lifters which is now almost gone at start up.
Also after I inspected the filter. Had alittle more metal flakes [than u had] and some sludge 1/32in and a dark brown paper element. Flakes? most likely came over time, baken on the motor. Due to it never been flushed in its life.

Yes this series of videos is the 'Under card' for the 'Main Event'! But for sure a microscope and those tweezers could come in handy for lots of things. I even got one inside the house too. That one right there is definitely staying in the garage.
This here is practice filter from previous oil changes and not the VRP filters. Also, you don't need 12k miles. I read their patent and will be making a video on that in the next few days after I get my notes together. Please do come back to check that out, I read the patent so you don't have to and will highlight the important parts and discuss, in general, the methodology.

But what you are saying is right but I'm just pointing out that you can get results without going through four oil changes or oil changes is what they suggest to get them up to 100% removal.
There is no pattent for Restore & Protect from Valvoline or Afton Chemical, their additive supplier for this motor oil. Your patent video is about the Valvoline Blue Restore pattent, which is an entirely different product. The Valvoline Restore & Protect motor oil is just a briliant piece of marketing, as it lacks the proper base oil composition to provide the necessary solubility for engine cleaning as Blue Restore does. Your efforts and intentions were good, but unfortunately, they were totally wasted.

And for sure it does not have the solubility of premium blue cuz that's not what it is intended for. I mean premium blue is a one use product restore and protect is for continuous use. Of course this patent is for premium blue but that does not mean time was wasted. Trying to learn something here. What I learned is a lot about engine oil. What I learned is a lot about premium blue and what I learned is that Restore and protect as an invention would be covered under this patent if you were to be sued for example by trying to make a like product. I have read plenty of patents. You don't have to write a patent specifically for an exact product for a product to be covered under a patent and in this case restore and protect is almost certainly covered under this patent.
The composition of the restore and protect product is not entirely understood and it definitely doesn't share the same ester based cleaning ability that the blue restore depends on. Time will tell whether it was marketing, but from my experience in my vehicle it made an immediate difference in power, noise, and smoothness of my 174k V6 2grfe toyota
After 2 oil changes this brilliantly marketed oil reduced my consumption from 1 qt every 300-400 miles to 1 qt every 800-1000 miles. The first filter was filled with black bits and specks after 3000 miles. I would recommend a first change at 2000 using Restore and Protect

Just bought a 2010 rav4 with the same type of a deposit. Have changed oil to p&p and hoping for good things.

I always change my own oil & filter, which I did yesterday. I used the new Valvoline Restore and Protect in my 2011 KIA Sorento.

Make sure you have a bunch of oil filters. Change filter every 500 miles or so.

Should have gotten a 'single point' probe (like a toothpick) to pick out/loosen objects you find; then tweezers to pick up object.

After 100 miles using Valvoline Restore and Protect, my 2011 KIA Sorento's engine is running smother. There is no darkening of the oil.

It doesn't work that quickly. You've got to run it consistently over about 12k miles for it to complete it's "flush".
This here is practice filter from previous oil changes and not the VRP filters. Also, you don't need 12k miles.
