How to Scramble Eggs Inside Their Shell - NEW VERSION

  • Опубликовано: 10 мар 2015
  • For this video I've created an improved method for one of my classic projects: 'How to Scramble Eggs Inside Their Shell'
    The scrambling device I use is an 8" long section of 2" diameter PVC pipe. The rope is thin nylon (you want to be sure it's strong enough not to break on you!) and the handle is a short (~4") section of 1/2" diameter PVC pipe.
    I find this method works much more quickly and reliably than the method shown in my first video, and bonus: it can take on 3 eggs at once! #NightHawkInLight

    I just did this and cooked the eggs immediately and it worked. It worked very well, so well that I ended up doing two dozen eggs just to prove it to doubting relatives. Best of all, my mother-in -law told me it would not work and that I was a lunatic for trying such a thing. Serving up perfectly scrambled eggs to the old bat , made my year. Thanks a lot buddy.

    So I'm a shell egg grader. I work in egg processing plants with the USDA and I look at thousands of eggs and grade them by hand per day. I used this method to make some training eggs as the USDA uses my plant to bring newbies in and teach them the defects that can happen in eggs. This method would have been perfect to recreate what we call a "mixed rot", which is when the yolk breaks into the albumin and mixes. And it did! I made some fantastic looking mixed rots. The only issue is they continued to degrade rapidly. Within four hours they were no longer candling a bright, beautiful amber color and were instead completely black. Breaking one open revealed they had changed to this off green color... not very appetizing! If you plan on doing this please cook them immediately. Do not store them and cook them later. You will likely get a nasty surprise. Also using older eggs vs. fresh eggs will probably save you a great deal of effort as the yolk sac would have already weakened. I was using fresh from the hen eggs, and boy did they take a great deal more effort that my old B interiors!

    My nephews -- 8 and 11 -- grew up in rural situations around the globe where their parents and my dad help install water wells and bicycle-powered irrigation pumps.
    THEY LOVE making stuff in your videos, feel connected to the internet, and they share with their friends. They have zero interest in computer games or U.S. pop culture, so this is right up their alley.

    I’m going to repurpose this into a paint mixer for scale model/hobby paint…
    Edit: works like a charm! I used what I had on hand which was a super thick walled cardboard tube that’s the perfect diameter for Vallejo bottles (almost too perfect. Have to shake them out past the string) but a couple twists and it’s perfectly mixed. Probably gonna go hunt down some PVC pipe in the barn tomorrow and make a larger one for my bigger bottles.

      Currently trying out the same thing for paints. Can't seem to get the right rope for the application. None of them seem to twist back on each other.

      +Victor Benoit Tried the pringles tube. The top part of the pringles tube isn't hard enough for it to work. The paper at the top just rips. Maybe a plastic tube with off-brand pringles (aka: stacks) might work better.

    Cool! My parents used to make that when i was like 7. But they umm cracked a hole in the top of the shell , and mixed the egg outside of the shell and put it back to the shell. And they added pepper into the egg, then they steamed the egg. I don't know how long. And it looked like the one from this video when it was done, except that there was a hole on the egg shell. It tasted great though :3

    Try as I might, I can't get the tube to "re-twist" after initially pulling up on the handle to "untwist" the tube. I manually twist the tube, then pull up on the handle. It untwists very quickly, and I immediately lower the handle to allow enough slack for the cord to re-twist, but it only does a couple of turns. I'm using thin nylon, 550 parachute cord. Ideas?

      Try using a longer PVC tube for the handle. Thin nylon rope should work. Maybe your rope is too thick. Also try putting a identical handle on the bottom so you can hold it with your foot. Twist it a bunch before pulling up on it and release pressure before it hits the top. Watch a video about bow drill fire starting for similar techniques And ideas. If you add more in the middle it may improve as well. This design can be improved on. I love the concept tho. 🤯

    If you are worried about the shell being weak and breaking during boiling . Why not steam them for 17 minutes they will come out perfect. I steam all my eggs. Six and a half minutes for soft boiled and 17 minutes for hard boiled. And they peel very easy.

    • @jessstuart7495
      @jessstuart7495 5 лет назад

      Whenever I make deviled eggs, I always steam them, but only for about 12 minutes though. I use a large metal pot with a good fitting lid, and a metal colander that keeps the eggs out of the boiling water at the bottom of the pot. You only need as much water as you will boil away in 12 minutes, and to keep the bottom of the pot from boiling dry.

    Depending on the type of cord or pipe you use, to get that nice rotation you'll want to increase the rotational mass so it will have enough energy to wind up the opposite direction so you can repeat process. If it's too light or the cord is too heavy, it won't wind back the other way.

      +Goodwine I used to eat duck eggs in the Philippines called "Balut" and they contain baby ducks. You can buy them anywhere from a regular egg all the way up to a fully developed baby duck with feathers. We always ate the baby duck, you crack the shell and add vinegar and sea salt.. Yummy ! My kids loved them. Vendors would peddle 3 wheeled bicycles that had a side car with a big basket full of eggs and a small oil lamp burning. These were sold in the evening and are a big hit in the PI.

    • @tac-z3363
      @tac-z3363 8 лет назад

      ***** Why is that? Do we just get the chicken eggs before it develops or is there no rooster around to impregnate the chickens? I thought i read that chickens wont lay eggs without a rooster but arent egg production chickens all locked up anyway?

    • @nicsheffer247
      @nicsheffer247 8 лет назад

      +TAC-Z we have a chicken coop with a fence around it, and another fence around that one, and keep the rooster in the outer ring, so the chickens lay the eggs but they are never fertilized. That being said chickens will usually still lay eggs without a rooster around, and if you buy them in the store they probably came from a roosterless farm.

    • @purpleiguana208
      @purpleiguana208 8 лет назад +1

      +TAC-Z Why is that? For the same reason that human women ovulate once a month but aren't pregnant every month. Chickens just ovulate more frequently. Sometimes the eggs are fertilized, if he hen has mated with a rooster, but mating isn't necessary for ovulation to occur.

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 8 лет назад

      but having a rooster around does help stimulate them. oddly enough the same works for humans, they say spending more time around males helps your period go more smoothly. gets your hormones going or whatever.

      The trick is the rapid spin-counterspin. It creates vortexes that tear apart the yolk sack and mix the two components thoroughly. Just spinning it fast will not do it.

      I either had too short of a rope, or plastic rope is not the correct rope to use. Maybe I wasn't doing it right, not the right method. Idk
      Just another failure on top of countless others that I have tried.
      I tried doing the PVC Rocket from Kingofrandom with Kitty Litter sugar and potassium nitrate. That failed as well. Guess I wasn't made to craft things.
