Don't know how I came here, but you're cool guy. How many people can fix old gorgeous gear like this? Doing it with no music, podcasts... just in your workshop working on cool stuff. Deep bow to you sir.
Holy cow, the amount of effort and knowledge needed to do this kind of electronics restoration amazes me. The result is awesome though! That set looks amazing!
I remember 25 years ago going to antique shops and saw several different models of Predica's but unfortunately I am not an electrician and of course none worked and were sold as is. I am sure you have to have excellent patience to fix these sets just like what you went through on this set. Even though I cannot fix old sets, I enjoy watching people like you fix them. Thanks for sharing and this is the first video I have seen by you and I have subscribed to your channel. My parents were the first to get a TV on the block back in the late 40s or early 50s. I remember when I was four years old they had an Emerson probably a 6 to 8 inch screen table top set. I would watch a kiddie show that came on at noon on King channel 5 which was NBC In Seattle if I remember correctly.
A worker friend of mine gave me a 1936 rca victory tombstone table top model in the 80's, just gorgeous in pristine condition. His landlord gave it up to him just for moving out! Working perfectly after 50 years!
I'm so happy to have found your channel! This is fantastic to see these beautiful old TVs ! I grew up in the late 60s and early 70s, and I always dreamed of TVs like we have today, but I kind of miss the big console televisions. It was basically a piece of furniture as well. I can't wait to see more of your videos!!🙂👍👍
I do electronic repair's and micro soldering and I am looking at this and just blown away lol. Like holy cluster f***. It looks like this box of really old components that I found at my uncle's house and to think there is some kind of order to all of this is just amazing. I feel like I would almost be completely lost
Great video. My father was a TV repairman in the 60s and 70s. He has a business called Houston Tuner Service. I remember the smell of him soldering stuff. Great times when people fixed stuff.
this is amazing. i love your c hannel now, so glad i found you in recommended! i have a 1984 trinitron and a 1994 trinitron, i found in a neighbors trash which got me on the crt kick
Jack your amazing and really did a great job even with trouble very encouraging to me as I often have same issues with my projects. I too have a cat helper looks like cody too.really appreciate you sharing. Bob Anderson on you tube has done a lot of predicta Bandersontv you tube. thanks Mike
I remember the repair man would come with his big case with everything. I went to a building in Crowley last and there was shelves full of tv tubes. Orange and black boxes. No telling what happened to all that gold.
This is amazing !! I have A 58 Philco Pedestal (barber shop pole), trying to find someone Who can make it work again ! And safely … heard these overheat easily. I’ve never turned it on out of fear
Jack, I've found that soft scrub, water and a nylon scrub brush work well to clean up those tandem cords. Also it's a lot easier to get those gold bands on by hooking both ends of the spring and then slipping the band on, rather than fumbling with the spring with needlenose pliers.
That looks like the original CRT with the low-voltage filament, and in near-new condition, which is rare! I've heard the tube sockets in these sets are pretty flimsy. It was smart to replace them. One doesn't find bad *brand new* electrolytic capacitors very often, only seemingly when you least expect it!
18:20 oh wow I have a small box of them little adjusting picks that you are using and I had no idea what they were for the longest time lol. They were also in that box of components that I got from my uncles house that I mentioned in my previous comment lol. I would be willing to bet that I have a ton of hardware that you might be interested in lol. Unless this stuff is easy to be had in the internet. I really cannot say for sure.
I'm new to your channel, but I love watching what you do. I have a question I noticed right at 7:37 approximately. You took a Brown tan colored wire off a prong and reconnected it, but you connected it to a different spot, right next to where you took it off and I was wondering if that was meant to be done. And why? Oh yeah, and that big TV. That's on your cover picture. I just watched that video where you got it from Indiana. I grew up in Indiana, and I remember seeing those TVS as collector items when I was a kid And always wanted one.
New follower who’s been enjoying your content. Are you in washing state? I live in Renton wa and actually have a couple very old and unique TVs I’ve gotten free from garage sales. If you’re local I would love to see them on your channel. Let me know if you are in my area, I heard u say that new crazy German tv was retrofitted in Tacoma, so figured maybe that’s where u got it and are from.
Hey, I’m actually located in Atlanta haha. I drove up to a very small town in Indiana to pick this up. I assume since the original owner was military, he moved around a lot, figuring the set was retrofitted in Tacoma, then eventually landed in Indiana until he passed.
@ one of the old TVs I have is a 1948 airline model 94GSE-3015A. It’s a vertical and deep style tv with a circular small screen on the upper front, with a rounded-corner rectangular speaker under the screen. Have you worked on this kind before? I have to find the other one I got, as I don’t have pics of it yet.
Hey, i have a philco model 38-8 radio that is in ok condition. I was wondering what capacitors i need for it because they are 90 years old. What type of caps and electrolitics do i need do I need to replace the strip thing and mire questions i have. If you read this I can maybe get your contact and i can send some pictures so you can tell me what to do, I am varry new to radio repair. I hope i can fix it so i can get a head start in how it works. Thank you
Hey buddy, you can send me a message on Facebook at Saunders Co. I would recommend getting replacement capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply since their website is easy to navigate. Mouser is also great but their site is a bit confusing. Others recommend Digikey although I’ve never purchased from there. We can talk about it in more detail on FB if you’d like.
So update, I replaced the power cord and it turns on I haven't tuned the thing because the condition of the speaker is questionable.. I have tried to look up a schematic on my radio model but i can't find anything on the same model. Ill be sure to message you soon Thanks.
Okay I think I noticed when I watched the video again, it just looked like it was connected to the other spot that I thought, but it was the spot next to it the whole time. Lol.
I was on a bit of a deadline getting this television back, but also, the tuner is a highly sensitive piece of a equipment that I don't have enough knowledge on yet to tinker with. Everything in there is very precise and tuned exactly. Any accidental mess-up with coils, resistors, or variable capacitors can really mess up any signal coming into it. I'm sure whatever problem was in there, is an easy fix, but I wanted to give this customer a known good tuner, and worry about the problem tuner later in a future project. I'm trying to clean up and downsize my workspace at the moment.
Why is an ancient TV restoration channel the most wholesome comment section on RUclips? Nice videos by the way
I'd love an old tv to watch King of the Hill and vintage horror films on! Must be magical

You may not be a "professional" but you're clearly an expert.
Holy cow, the amount of effort and knowledge needed to do this kind of electronics restoration amazes me. The result is awesome though! That set looks amazing!
"Put the set beside your chair, put the picture anywhere" a beautiful set, certainly on my bucket list...
The theme song is catchy

Thank you for the kind words!
Great video. I has seen these models but had no idea the screen was movable. Those vertical rolling glitches bought back my childhood.

That is a thing of beauty.
The insides of it look like something Doc Brown has built 😳
😂

Is it still around?? What do they do these days, since no one uses these tvs outside of collectors?
No. The business went out of business in 1984. Even by 1980 most TVs had switched to electronic tuners so the mechsnical tuners were like a dinosaur.
It's so cool that it's in such original shape and that picture tube looks amazing
Jack - Your restorations make my difficult repair projects look like a walk in the park! Thanks, man - love your vids
Nice work. I'm amazed by your resolve. You're worth your weight in gold as a tech.
Good one.. fun to watch!
I remember watching films on one of these (or something similar to) on my grandmother's television
Well done Jack ! When I started @1973 I wouldnt touch a Philco with a 10 foot #8 driver !
LFOD !

Hi! I love your old TVs! I got my first crt like a month ago and it’s a sharp I got it for 13 bucks at a electronic recycling place
Oh yea and I’m getting a vhs camcorder today!

Parabéns meu amigo, vc é fera

impresionante!
Many people fall into this trap, thinking that a new component must work properly 😄
Awesome
Cool!
I would love to watch Dick van Dyke on this
🤗
How did you learn to do these kinds of repairs? It's such a niche thing to be able to repair these antiques.

Do you have an ebay store with restored old TVs?
Okay I think I noticed when I watched the video again, it just looked like it was connected to the other spot that I thought, but it was the spot next to it the whole time. Lol.
The original tuner is not repairable?

Wow, I never would have expected a bad UCC cap either. Usually they're top shelf.
@@televisionforever sounds like a good call, I’m glad you’re planning to look at it in the future.
that's what the Fallout TV is modeled after i think
you better be a fallout fan or ill be very upset for you.
This is fucking awesome
i genuinely wish i understood any of this 🥲 its interesting
:-) me to
someone has to come up with something to replace these rotting cables
