55 years ago, as a pupil in physics class, I became acquainted with this machine. I received an electric shock that I will never forget.
As a result, I became an electrician.

About 45 years ago for me, we were trying to see how long a spark we could get on an EXTREMELY dry day. It was my task to tap the adjuster to move the electrode closer, well I missed and landed about 6 feet away wondering how the mule that kicked me had gotten into the classroom on the 4th floor. We were drawing about a 6-7" spark when I got bit.

I would hazard a fuess that that particular one is nothing like that old. The materials are more 1980s than 1880s. Polystyrene, for example.
Also, the Leyden jars are Pyrex, so can't be pre-1915.
