Sounds almost like a real engine when it's running. Kids today would never be trusted to handle something that involves actual fire! So cool to see stuff like this exists. Keep up the good work!
@@danielcolon979 Kids are a lot smarter and more capable than anyone gives em' credit for these days. Kids used to grow up fast because people used to treat them like young adults. People now only ever treat their children like braindead halfwits from birth, then they're surprised when that's all they ever grow up to be in this life!
You can make your own using a coke can, straws, and milk carton or tin for the hull. There are numerous videos and webpages that show how, just google "Make your own pop pop boat." I helped my son make one for a science project, it was a lot of fun for us both.
I just bought one for 25PLN from flea market, looks half as old as here and im having a time of my life, I used to say good days are gone but its the simple things that make you smile
Water in the pan boils, becomes steam, is expelled and propels the boat forward. You now have a vacuum in the pipes and boiler, so water rushes in, is heated, and the cycle repeats. Now you might think that if water is coming in and out that cancels out and so no movement would be possible, but water coming in impacts the boiler front and transfers its momentum, so effectively the water coming in causes no change in the boat's velocity (water comes in, subtracting from the speed, hits the inside of the boiler, adding to the speed, then leaves, adding speed). The ones that have two pipes like this one do not have any water circulation, water comes in and out of both pipes at the same time.
The steam both pushes and pulls but the shape of the boat means that the push is more effective that the pull, so it goes both backwards and forwards to some degree but the effect of the shape means that it goes forward.
I am speechless. As many others say, it is probably your best restoration job ever. From a pile of rusty metal to a fully functional happily chugging vividly coloured little steam jet boat (love the noise. And the moustachoied marroon copper turbaned captain!)
Nothing impresses me more than the love of a craftsman and his skill . You Sir have outdone yourself . Thank you for such craftsmanship and the opportunity to watch you restore almost impossible relics . 👍
Such a beautiful and sympathetic restoration. It's lovely to see someone with real skill bringing a once loved, and sadly forgotten item back to new and vibrant life. This video made me very happy indeed, especially the care you took to replace the little guy's turban. Thank you so much for sharing. 👍👍👍
It's incredible that there were industrial models of this toy! As children, we made these steam boats from thick metal rods from ballpoint pens and tin from coffee cans. And it worked just the same!🙂
I was sitting here in Houston, Texas watching this video on You Tube, when I realized my sister and I had one of these boats in the fifties. I contacted her in Bristol England and she vaguely recollected it. Neither of us recalled who gave it to us, or who bought it as we were spending our summer holidays as usual at our grandparents in North Wales. The boat we had was silver in colour and didn't work all that well in rough seas, so we only ran it in a large bathtub. The fuel we used was Methylated spirits, though I do have a recall using Mothballs/ Naptha, but that is rather vague. Anyway thanks for showing it and bringing back memories of our childhood. Regards, Nick Jones
Respect to those who invented the toy! Respect to the craftsman who restored it. I am glad that there have always been, there are now and there will be such people in the future.
Cutos for taking care of items important for our history! Remember these boats from when i was a kid, true value in a toy that was not just beutiful, but had fun features. We use to build these out of wood and run them, speed competition, with carosene. Great skills, good eye for details, "the mustasch.." and solid choice of item restaured. You Sir, are a true professional!
Your attention to detail, as always, is outstanding. Thanks for also showing all the steps on the engine and I am happy that unlike the live steam locomotive you restored, the heat did not affect the paintwork
Thank you very much ! The painting on the loco was heat resistant too. The decals were a bad idea 😕 I should have painted the letters. Mistakes are the best way to learn 😀
Great restoration. I can remember my father buying me one, back in the late 50's but the thing I'll never forget is the smell given off, from the fuel cell you set alight, loved it.
I love this! I have seen steam powered trains, but never a boat. My favourite part, as always, was creating replacement parts -- in this case, the engine.
Truly excellent work. Making a new motor was impressive, but you did it without a press and dies, and without a commercial tube bender. The captain's turban was a nice touch. I still hold some hope that you'll do a video or a series on your Terrot.
Thank you very much. The Terrot is in the workshop still. Unfortunately I need more space, my place is too small. I will restore it someday ! For sure 🙌
You made me return to my chilhood. I had one like this in Brazil, by the 70's. I was about 10 years old. It was called "Pop-Pop" boat, made by "Estrela Toys". Once, playing with that, I had a litlle cut, in my finger open the cap. Thank's for the memory.
Beautiful as always my friend! Your attention to detail (the turban was priceless!) was spot on as usual! Thank you so much for the entertainment, the maiden voyage across the pool was great!
The oscillation effect is really neat! The engine generates steam in the boiler, which expands and travels down the exhaust pipe (with a pop) that shoves water out of the pipe (or pipes in this design). This pushes the boat forward in accordance with Newton's Third Law. As the boat moves forward under momentum, the pressure inside the boiler drops and sucks water back in (the boiler also contracts, producing another pop). This water is boiled, more steam is produced, and the cycle repeats. It also has to "burp" occasionally to release air accumulated in the boiler (water contains dissolved air).
AMAZING AND BRINGS back lots and lots of memories! I use to own one… I will now show this to my kids! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS, nothing but smiles! Arigato from Japan… Looking forward to the next one
