1958 Philco Predicta Tandem Restoration
This was a pretty in depth project that had a lot more troubleshooting than I thought it would have. Very interesting sets to work on. A lot more videos coming up in the future I'm excited about

I picked up a set I restored a few years ago from the person I sold it to. I'm glad to have it back in my collection and look forward to restoring it to 100% in a later video. It operates on 220v which isn't a problem, but the sound I can't get to sync up with the audio. I'm thinking of bypassing the tuner completely and adding AV inputs for the video and audio. Stay tuned!

This is a 1930s RCA Oscillograph/oscilloscope. Apparently, these are pretty hard to come by, and this one is in excellent condition. I love to have this in my collection and love that I'm able to show a video about this rare piece of electronic test equipment history.

I repaired this set for someone who just wanted to use it at parties to play old movies on it. He knows the set may need word in the future since he knows I didn't replace all I could have. It still required a good amount of work to work consistently without any other major problems coming up in the near future. I wish I could have kept it for myself!

Circuit boards weren’t used widely during this time. Some advancements during WWII helped evolve that idea. You start to see them more in 1950s sets.

I bet the electrical engineers of that time period would be very intrigued about the advancements in electrical components and circuit board organization. I would love to hear what they would say looking at a modern schematic. I'm sure the average viewer of television at the time would be absolutely blown away at image quality, color, and sound design now. My grandmother was born in 1929 and is still alive. I need to ask her about her thoughts on tech advances over the past 100 years to hear her perspective.

@@televisionforever Ooh! you actually responded! I never get responses from youtubers, but yea, im also very intrested on how engineers back then imagine how TV's would look like in the future.

@@EgyptianWestbound I'm sure with how fast tech was advancing, it was very exciting to see what new advancements came every few years. For them to be time-traveled to now looking at modern circuit boards, it would be wild. I'm sure they wouldn't like the aspect that repairmen are basically non-existent at this point since if something breaks, you just buy a new one, not get it repaired which is a shame.

The first TV I bought, while in college, was a space command unit from this same era. Zenith had in mind that it would be serviced by changing the circuit boards, not repairing them. (thus the plugs on the boards everywhere) They did not last much longer in business, due to bad business decisions and competition from Asia. These televisions mark the end of a once great company.

Thank you for restoring these machines. The people of the future also send their kind regards. It is super important that some machines are conserved via restoration. It's such a shame today's machines are not worthy of restoration, because there is nothing beautiful, or exceptional about them; they're simple expendable commodities.

Alles habt Ihr uns genommen. Ersatzlos, einfach so.

That looks like the original CRT with the low-voltage filament, and in near-new condition, which is rare! I've heard the tube sockets in these sets are pretty flimsy. It was smart to replace them. One doesn't find bad *brand new* electrolytic capacitors very often, only seemingly when you least expect it!
