I have a transoceanic and when i got it, the 1L6 was missing of course. I just got one and was pleasently surprised it works great. I want to try a Solid State replacement 1L6 and 50A1.

Nice set, Would like to get one to compare to my Zenith Transoceanic, but shipping to the UK is more than the radio!
The 1L6 can be replaced with a European DK92.

Thanks so much for giving me so much entertainment and education.
I’ve got 16 radios. Wish I were younger and learned how to repair.
In the meantime I’m enjoying your videos.
My wife said if I bought anymore antique radios she’d make me sleep in the garage, which would be a huge problem as we don’t have a garage.
Keep making your videos. Can’t understand how you could learn all this in the short time you’ve been repairing these beauties. But thanks for giving me so much joy!

Thanks so much for the kind words! I really enjoy this hobby. It's a nice escape and getting these gems working again is so satisfying. I'm happy other people find enjoyment out of it too. I understand about hoarding radios too, our entire second bedroom in our two bedroom apartment is just my workshop so my wife puts up with a lot!

People must of been real carpetbaggers back in the day to have needed their radios in permanent suitcases. Either htat or they fancied themselves all spies with one time pads.

@@cardboardboxification They already did in the 60's to take to the beach or on picnics. I found a seriously rusted out one in a barn once, a 1952 GE 607.
It was in unsavable condition, though I gave it a shot.. so i asked on Craigslist and someone game me a 1951 GE 430 which I restored. I modded it to receive shortwave up to around 2.4mghz with a long wire stretched across my field.

I know the RF spectrum from ground waves to terahertz ultraviolet light... from a coherer to spread spetrum cellular networks...

Never be sure about anything in this universe. I fly robots across a 868MHz control link and a 5GHz 80MHz wide 50mbs live video link:

I’ve often thought about getting one of these. I wonder if there’s any difference in dx‘ing with a tube version like this vs a transistor version?

No Difference.Electrons flow thru transistors as well as vacuum tubes .
