- Quick restoration of a nice little bakelite radio. These restorations are usually pretty quick because of the design and size. I really do like this cabinet though. Wish I knew the journey it made before I found it.

I've wanted one of these ever since I saw this video. Finally found one a few weeks ago and got it restored. I'm envious of all the AM stations in your area!

Neat little radio. It is a nicely styled cabinet. It did sound for a moment like the start of some silver mica migration in the IF cans,but it seemed to go away as you played the set. It usually shows itself as an interference or "lightning strike" sound and unfortunately the IF cans in this set (usually made by Automatic Radio Corp) are the most common to get it! Fixing it is a pain too, I've done a few. In fact many of them failed when these were fairly new!
Nice call, I almost forgot about silver mica disease. I've never had to repair SMD thank goodness. I have the replacement caps for it but it is a pain to do if the scratchiness continues. Thanks for mentioning that!
Great job cleaning up a radio that Is Four years old then I am I can remember Seeing this old radios in Peoples homes when I was growing up most of the time they were just left gathering dust in the corner because most people were turning over to TV my dad had an old am sw radio and I was all was trying to Tune in to foreign radios stations around the world
Yeah I feel these radios we're used for the short term and weren't taken care of as much as 30s-40s sets due to the price and it being a plastic cabinet instead of wooden. I do enjoy wooden cabinet designs more but the bakelite sets do have some great cabinet designs. The Hallicrafters and National radios really held up over the years. Built like tanks for serious radio enthusiasts. I also can't get enough of 1930s Zenith sets. The reception even without an antenna is impressive.

...that makes TWO of us- I haven't counted them, but probably have more than 50 transistor radios to fix...
