A good old fashioned Geoguessr play along

- We dive back into some classic Geoguessr on this fine Tuesday afternoon. It was a game that had a couple of juicy rounds in it, and at the end I talk a bit about the future of Geoguessr on this channel.
PLAY ALONG: Play your round, put your marker down, then switch tabs back to RUclips to watch
my attempt before you see the result. This way you don't ruin the game or the video!
THE LINK: www.geoguessr....
Other players seeing a light blue car and thinking tasmania compared to tom exploring shady characters in a park and giving a prostitude anecdote in the middle of the round is exactly why I choose to watch tom
i watch it all :-)
Lmao couldn’t agree more
yeah all the people who are really good at it take the fun out of exploring the world
@@bobojo6447 I think that someone recognising a telephone pole or car brand trends is still more fun than anything that is only introduced by the game or the fact that this is shot by a google street car - like the quality of the camera, the follower cars or the tape on the rearview mirror - but I agree that Tom is more in line with what I'd call the spirit of the game.
factssss
Watching the best players can sometimes feel like watching a computer program. It's more enjoyable to watch someone who just has a lot more worldly knowledge than me but is still relatable.
Not to mention a very funny character!
Its interesting seeing the best players when they stop and talk about their thought process. But they almost always blast through and you're just wondering what they even spotted.
Worldly knowledge indeed, in Birmingham.
"Relatable", nice way to call him shit
@@HumblehoggogYoure gonna need some pretty serious expletives to continue a ranking system that puts geowizard at "shit" 😂
I think that last round is a perfect example why GeoGuessr content will be ever-fresh on this channel, Tom. The asides, the stories, the get-ins, the Great Mosque of Touba- it doesn't matter that others are better these days, every geoguessr video is always a treat from you.
@@mftmss7086You were asking for it let’s be real
@@mftmss7086🤗❤️
@@mftmss7086I think the “therapy” community might be where you wanna be 😅
@@mftmss7086i am gonna do it again
@@mftmss7086hahahhqa did you get a better grade afterwards?
Always a pleasure watching you, Peru was insane!
Let us know if you want us to create a spicy map challenge for you.
THe Cusco round was SO GREAT!
Wow, I hope Tom sees this!
What about an obscure football stadiums map
Please give geowizard the HoF award next world cup and host him handsomely, it would be so great to see Tom chatting with you all at a hype event. Also, make Tom kick a ball in a straight line all the way to Sweden, He'll be up for it :D
0 yards in Peru is no joke
0 yards ANYWHERE is no joke ;)
"Zero Yards in Peru" could be the title of a novel, or possibly a documentary about the decline of urban gardening.
I think most people just enjoy listening to you talk for 20 minutes.
exactly :D
That Cusco round is like textbook Geogussr for me. You found the country name, followed by the city name and then used a large landmark to orient yourself and then followed the road bends to match it to the map. Classic round.
Very true, the meta gamers with car- and pole knowledge are great in their own right, but this feels more like how it was meant to be played.
@@MeriaDuck Because that's how it was meant to be played: Everybody has some country, city, language and landscape/climate knowledge. All those car metas and copyright nonsense (just naming it what it is) is something they developers most Lilley didn't even consider when they made this game.
GeoWizard-style Geoguessr videos will never be exhausted. It's fun just to watch you having fun, whether you're challenging yourself or just having a casual stroll around the map. I appreciate the Geoguessr videos whenever you feel like throwing them in. 💜
I agree! I believed that tom had stopped doing geoguessr videos for good, because he hadn't posted for months but I'm glad he will still be doing them from time to time. That's enough for me.
Bro that's why I prefer your Geoguessr vids, they are unlike the masses, which are all the same nowadays.. It's a breath of fresh air. Keep on posting them!
While impressive, it's not really that interesting seeing dudes spin around, notice some obscure lamp post that only appears on southern Kalimantan and then plop down for a good score. Give me Tom scouring the map for clues and "vibes" any day!
No one expects you to be a "geoguessr pro" these days, but most of us enjoy watching your geoguessr/timeguessr content for the hilarious and thoughtful commentary that you give while playing. Having 3 minutes per round to look around and talk about the scene is perfect for you, we're not expecting you to do 0.1 seconds per round like rainbolt/zigzag. Just keep being your same old funny self, that's what got you here to begin with, after all
Tom playing a map that describes itself as having "Street View Coverage of the 10 most populous cities in each country" and him constantly being amazed that he is in or near a big city... never change, Tom. Never change...
Your GeoGuessr videos feel like hanging out exploring google maps, the fact you're not competitive and use other strategies is the big reason I enjoy them! Thanks for the video :)
As a Brummie I’d forgotten about the “back of Rackhams” saying 😂 thanks for the reminder. As a kid I never knew what it meant!
As others have said, watching you playing Geoguessr without all of the meta knowledge of bollards and pole tops keeps it fresh for me. Just good old fashioned reasoning and deduction
Tom is the Mr Rogers of geoguessr. He's just good energy and will always put you in a good mood while watching him play.
No other geoguessrs are going to focus in on that pile of carrots and pick out the one that looks most like a choad. THIS is why we watch you.
I think the best Geoguessr videos you do are on the unique maps like Brutalist buildings, Places where disasters happened, European Castles and things like that where you are in locations with more history and context/story. I would love to see you get back into those types of maps more than just normal random Geoguessr maps.
Yes, can't agree more!
We are SO back
I'm ashamed to say i recognised the back of Rackhams instantly!
slag
Even in daylight? lol
I just saw the thumbnail and thought youtube was recommending an old video to me 😂
Same here 😂
The Wizard could upload one of these twice a day for 2 years and i’d watch every single one
Pigeon park on a weekday lunch time is the biggest culture clash of businessmen in suits having a sit down with a tesco meal deal (weather permitting), and crackheads wilding out and starting fights with each other
One version of geovideo you did in the beginning was to have a list of random stuff to find, like: A pink car, a couple with matching track suits, a horse... and then played sort of bingo with it. That was fun!
Yeah, that was definitely fun.
I'd like to see more of that!
Theres a even website for that, i think its called geobingo
It's called Geobingo
Yes! I love those challenges
Wowzers, hasn’t even realised it’d been more than four months since the last one! Great to get another one of these Tom
The original GOAT is back with a Geoguessr video. Honestly I missed this kind of Geoguessr video over the more a bit blunt competitive Geoguessr of today. I love the last round with you just talking about that place and the dodgy people on the park. Its fun to see you playing Geoguessr
I never thought I’d hear “back ‘o’ Rackhams” on RUclips. Thanks for the blast from the past Tom!
Love the slower 'carmen sandiego' pace to offset the cup guys and I think detective and straight line does that. Congrats to Blinky and props to all the others, it's ok for 'The Geofather' to have minions now and spend his time tending to his vineyard
A big part of what I like about Tom is how open and "normal" he is. Making us aware of his future plans with the channel and being honest about it having to do with income as well. Gotta do whatever works for you!
Personally, I enjoy all types of videos that Tom makes. I watch them because I like the guy and whatever excites him.
That Cusco round was class
Please never stop doing these. I throughly enjoy every single video of yours. Including GeoGuessr videos. Your funny commentary, stories, insight and jokes makes you so much more enjoyable to watch compared to others.
I think you’re missing the mark Tom. YOU make Geogussr refreshing. I don’t watch anyone else, not cause they are no good, but because they don’t add what you add. It’s a reason why a lot of us got into the channel, and I think you’ll always find a community on here that will click and support you on these videos.
I like your Geoguessr videos just the way they are, and I bet a lot of people do too.
You don't need to find something new and fresh to do everytime, as your way of playing and commenting is unique in its own way.
Just keep at it and we will happily watch anyway :)
There’s something truly great about watching someone good at this game purely on their world knowledge and not their geoguessr knowledge. Great video Tom
I originially subbed for geoguessr specifically, but I understand your point. You've got a kid now, and money is important. At the end of the day, I come to your videos for you, no matter the exact type of content, and it's always been a blast. Be it Geoguessr, adventurs, or other Geography vids like GeoDetective. I'll keep supporting you as long as your vids have the same energy they've always had, and so far, I'm happy!
I can tell you that in the late 80's myself and a few friends used to get to the top floor of Rackhams via the perimeter stair wells and then get out onto the roof - crazily they never locked the uppermost door. Took a few Wimpy's up there to enjoy in the polluted air 😂😂 Talking of Corporation St Wimpy - you could break through the staff toilet roof into the buildings behind. An absolute maze of unused space, maze of red brick corridors and the pot of gold a boxing gym with ring and posters on the wall. Magical as long as you didn't mind the 3" of pigeon shit on every surface 😏😏
Tom is easily one of the most unintentionally funny youtubers I’ve come across. Love the content and thank you for the laughs!
You don't need to be the best geoguessr player to make the best geoguessr videos. Keep doing what you do, it's authentic, likeable, and funny. Cheers.
I really enjoyed the two or so Duels videos you did a while back, since then the whole system has been revamped a lot including better location spreads, better ranked matchmaking and the addition of No Moving and NMPZ duels
I'd love to see some videos on that, it doesn't matter that you are not at the top of the pyramid anymore, your gameplay and thought process is equally (if not more) interesting than many pros. Take care Tom! :)
I really couldn't care any less about how good he is at the game. I just enjoy watching him try to figure it out regardless of if it's a good guess or not
"I don't even know where it was" Suuuuure, Tom.
That was the carrot she tells the other carrot not to worry about.
I like watching you so much more than the geoguessr pro's. I don't care about the tricks and tips and scores, I just love how you go about finding the spot, the commentary, you as a person.
while other content creators for geoguessr are competitive, i watch yours for your insightful and funny commentary alone! keep going!
Cusco guess was quality!! The old dog has still got it!!
So much better when Tom moves around.
“Are we recording” always gives me chills
Anyone else play along and instantly think "Tom's going to get this in 5 seconds" when they realised where the last round was?
I do not presume to tell you what content to make, of course, but maybe a poll of some sort? The idea of geoguessr being exhausted on youtube is dependent on people watching multiple channels for geoguessr. Maybe I am the outlier in this, but you are the only geoguessr content I watch. I enjoy geoguessr, I play it, but you and your personality is what makes it enjoyable to watch.
Just my 2p, you do what you feel is best.
Tom, as a longtime subscriber to the channel, I'm here because of Geoguessr. And actually, I discovered geoguessr because of this channel. And here's why your geoguessr content is hands down the best compared to the rest of youtube:
1. We can beat you, sometimes. The challenge format is fun, and you aren't so obsessed with the meta so it keeps our "games" competitive. You play the game like a real person would, not a robot.
2. You offer way more personality in your videos than most.
3. You have a great grasp on what maps/formats are best.
Keep 'em coming Tom!
Still the GOAT of geoguessr content.
MISSED THESE GOOD OL FASHIONED GEOGUESSR SESSIONS WE ARE BACK BABY.
The round where you lined yourself up based on the airport runway was brilliant!
You may not compete with some players in Geoguessr but nobody can compete with you in terms of storytelling. Your games are more relatable and not full of meta data based solutions. You don't rush us through so many clues we have no idea of. Please do more videos on this game.
Incidentally, Laygoes is the capital of Oreygun
Not a Tom video without a:
1) “Are we recording?”
2) Micro aggressions
Just like the good old days. Can't believe it's almost been 6 years since I started watching...
Just do your thing! Do not compare yourself with players like rainbolt or ZigZag. We are here to watch you playing because you are far closer to the majority of players and we enjoy your storytelling! :) Please more of this!
I really do enjoy your geoguessr more than any other. You being very natural and not perfect, while having some great charisma is far better than watching someone spot a location in half a second. Also much more comparable which piques my interest.
Amazing you doing a single game of GeoGuessr and one of the rounds end up being the place where you met Verity! Of all places!
(I’m kidding of course!)
You are the first one to get me into Geoguessr years ago. I definitely enjoy the world knowledge side way more than the Google maps meta stuff
My geoguessr goat. Dont ever stop these vids.
Tom your intuition, feeling on locations, jokes, ancedotes and charm mean your geoguessr videos have never become stale to me. You're the most comforting wonderful youtuber on this platform to me and have been for many years.
I love all of your content and some of your videos are my all time favourites on youtube or anywhere. Im about your age and these days I have to use a mobility scooter and sometimes struggle to leave the house - so I love living vicariously through your adventure videos.
I would watch more frequent videos of you just playing different geoguessr maps, if you enjoy it too - but im happy with whatever you put out.
These were the best videos to watch and decompress, after coming home from a long day.
As long as you are recording, I'll be watching your videos, Tom.
Tom, I will watch any video you put out no matter what. You being you, whatever the context is, is everything we need.
This feels like such a throwback to 6-8 years ago. I feel like i have nostalgia
Tom, your personality *and* talent are what keeps us watching. It doesn't matter whether you're super good or only really good at the game. Keep doing what you enjoy doing, and we'll be here watching.
I came from the storror videos (had stumbled over some of yours before, but never watched watched), ended up binging through your vids, fell in love and just stayed. As others have said, no matter what you do, its you we watch the vids for, no matter what style or genre, it's your personality & humour etc that keeps us with yoy
Watching your videos since many years now.
Just finished watching the World cup and it warms my heart how many players you have inspired in the community. Keep up the good work mate ❤
Finally some good old GeoGuessr again, missed this!
Classic GeoWizard GeoGuessr videos are the absolute best, please keep doing them! IMHO, it's no fun watching the "pros" of Geoguessr play since pretty much all they do is memorize meta info. Watching your style of play is so entertaining, especially with your commentary and humor. Playing GeoGuessr in the (IMO) way it was meant to be played is so much better. Using street signs, context clues, worldly knowledge etc. I originally came upon your channel when someone shared your first Wales attempt, but fell in love with the classic GeoGuessr videos.
They don't just memorise meta info, you're just ignorant. Look at any of the videos of zi8gzag playing the maps that have every country in the world and you will see that any guess the pros make is based on much more than meta. Especially in the world cup where many rounds were chosen to have as little meta info as possible.
@@janis7077 Sorry to have personally offended you 🙄 it was a blanket statement buddy
@@MattFFEMT I'm sorry, but with all my respect, janis is right here. Geoguessr pros do indeed use meta info, but the amount of geographical knowledge those people have is beyond insane. So it is wrong to say "all they do is memorize meta info", there are so many more things coming into the balance than just that.
While I'm mainly a fan of your geoguessr and detective content, I totally understand needing to do what keeps you fed and sheltered. Will always be here for the content when you do post Tom, cheers!
Never would have even tried GeoGuessr if it weren’t for Tom! Forever the 🐐!
this type of geoguessr video is my favourite. i watch for the funny commentary and stories, not necessarily how fast and accurate you can guess places.
I'd love to see another series of Geoguessr in real life. I loved the combo of classic Geoguessr content with the newer “out and about in the world” stuff.
You know what you should do Tom? Hop on Diverse World or any map like that, give yourself unlimited time, but use an countdown to get your guess, but then explore the area and just give your commentary on what you can see and how you describe the situation around there. Your storytelling, anecdotes, commentary etc. thats why I still love your Geoguessr vids. Its always fun. Keep up my dude!
Geowizard walked so the current pros can run. Shout out to the GOAT.
In the early days when your channel name was "Geoguessr Wizard" I would just shorten it to "Geoguessr" in conversation. I would say to my girlfriend, "are we watching Geoguessr?". Nowadays I refer you to as just "Geo". Anyway, my point is that I love these classic, old-school videos. To me, you ARE Geoguessr, even though the game and creator base has expanded massively. Love the content. Hope you're well. Keep it up.
This is some OG Geoguessr we are witnessing.
Been watching you for years now man and your videos don't get old. Just keep doing you, it works.
Love me a classic geoguessr video from geowizard
We love your Geoguessr vids. You should keep doing them, but with a bit of a twist, like more scavenger hunts and things like that. We just like watching you, Tom. And we'll never tire of your videos! Cheers from Ohio, US.
it’s more fun to watch you play this game because you have a relaxing methodical way of working through the rounds. when you get it bang on it’s more satisfying than watching one of the pro players get a perfect round. your channel will always be a time capsule of when the skill level wasn’t at a robotic point, and it’s very nostalgic to me. so please don’t worry about falling behind the pros
I definitely want to see more Geoguessr videos. They're always great fun. But honestly, pretty much all of your content is fun, so just do what you think is best. Although I can't imagine these types of videos being too time consuming or taxing to create, but you know your own ideal time/effort allocation best of course.
I am kinda burnt out on too much geoguessr content by the pros so i typically just watch the ones that seem to be a bit extra fun. But when you do one, i watch it every time. You are the OG and watching you play Geoguessr just hits differently.
Agree with all the comments here. Tom, don't forget, some of the best content you made was when you did GeoGuessr on Twitch and viewers set you challenges like to find a pink elephant or a dog wearing sunglasses or stuff like that. That was great stuff.
Tom, what you need to understand is that loads of people watch these chill GeoGuessr videos you do because they enjoy watching you play this silly game. You could have one morning every week where you record like 4 videos in 2-3 hours and post them throughout the week. The algorithm will like that and you'll get a steady amount of views. Will it gain millions of views? No. But you will have only worked for 2-3 hours and have the rest of the week for things that are more exciting. 4x100k views every week is probably better than 1x2-300k views like 2 times a month.
EDIT: Just noticed that your last 'true' Geoguessr video was about 4 months ago. So you could even record 4 videos on one morning and drop 1 every week.
we love your GeoGuessr content especially because you don't compete! I'll always prefer watching you figure out where you are strategically by the angle of an airport than someone who has all the meta memorized and can tell location by coverage/gen/rifts/camera angles
(no hate to the amazing players that memorize the meta-- it's just a different way of playing that is sometimes nice to get away from since that's what literally everyone else uses now)
I love the geoguessr videos but I came to the channel because of them and love all your vids, I think your best geoguessr videos though are when you play more obscure maps like whetherspoons in the UK. They are very fresh and unique, I remember you had a story about some old guy climbing a big chimney. Please keep them up!
The reason I love your Geoguessr vids over the other creators is because of your commentary and non-meta ways of finding your location. You could maybe try more weird, quirky and fun maps where you don't have to do well but surprisingly good guesses will be plenty, and your witty humor will shine in the midst of the randomness that the custom maps will bring.
Tom -- I love watching you play Geoguessr! Keep putting them out if it makes sense for you financially. I don't care about competitive content that much -- it's much more fun watching you play Geoguessr in the same way I play, without meta and having a good time exploring the world.
The Peru round was so interesting!
That airport lining up was so cool
There may be better Geoguessr players out there nowadays, but i'll always come back to your videos for the personality and banter. The specific content you are doing is kind of secondary to that tbh.
End of the day, you fill your days with what you enjoy most. But I think we as your viewers enjoy the geoguessr vids because you add so much storytelling and comedy to the game. And the long format and proper guessing is honestly so much more relaxing and interactive than the fast pace reels other players make. But I find that your other videos like geodetective vids and missions do have that same flare and style anyways. So you do you, Tom! Happy to see what you come up with next.
this is fun, I'd love more play alongs even though I did miserably except for in Birmingham haha
You manage to make incredible geoguessr guesses with great world knowledge whilst staying relatable and somehow like you’re winging/fluking it, which makes it incredibly satisfying to watch as someone who wouldn’t be very good at playing it.
Would love to see you do some geoguessr content with JackSucksAtLife/Geography
I had the exact same line of thinking as you for Cusco and agree completely - that was one of, if not the most, enjoyable rounds of Geoguesser I've ever played.
I've missed these kinds of videos. You always do such a spectacular job of outlining your thought process and it's fascinating to listen to. I would love to see you tackle the countryside map you mentioned too!
Your ubique twist is the colour commentary on the videos. You might not have the same inhuman skills as Rainbolt or Zigzag, but you're a hell of a lot more fun to watch
