If you liked this map, consider "Strange & Scary World" - It's a map I've made, that I've worked on for some time that now features 500+ locations of supposedly haunted, creepy, abandoned, tragic, disturbing locations. 😁 Atlasobscura has helped me massively with the idea, but I'm always scouring for new places. Sometimes I find what I think is a new place, go to add it to my map and realize I already did though.... welp.

It's an interesting map that I think is relatively educational, I got put in a spot in Canada that I'd be quite near to many times where some mining disasters occurred in the 50s and earlier and I'd had no idea until now.
I will say that I had one weird glitched round, I was on a tropical (palm trees, visible ocean) coast/island and unable to move around, I put a guess on an island in the Pacific and I got one point since it said the location was Toronto, Canada at an intersection that I've crossed through and can absolutely guarantee it is not. So there seems to be at least one bugged location in the map.

I recently watched a video about the Sunshine Skyway Bridge disaster by Brick Immotar and it really is a tragic story. The guy that survived was knocked unconscious initially and woke up at the bottom of the inlet inside his car. He was ex military and managed to stay calm enough to escape from his car and swim to safety.
A car managed to stop on the precipice of the collapse, but was unable to stop the other cars and greyhound bus in time, and had to watch them plummet to the water.

Thank you for responding. I was curious about it, and hoped that I'd find someone mentioning it in the comments.
I do remember reading about the bombings, quite a mystical thing if you dig deeper, a lot of conspiracy theories around it.
First, some politician announced that another, third, bombing has happened, but he announced it too soon, it happened only 3 days later. Then there were some KGB caught planting explosives, but then they were released and it was said that it was just a drill to keep people alert, and they planted sugar instead of explosives. Later there were some attempts at independent investigation, which was obstructed in different ways, including mysterious deaths and assassinations of politicians and journalists. One of assassinations is famous ex-FSB guy who blamed FSB for bombings, Litvinenko.

When the new bridge opened the last driver was the first public driver across. This was also the site where Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn collided with vessel Capricorn. 23 men aboard Blackthorn died. Seamen Flores while the tender was sinking opened the lifejacket locker and held a hatch open using his belt so others could escape, this final act of heroism ended his life.

Considering how relatively obscure and grim some of these places were, I'm surprised the "Tres Culturas" plaza in Mexico City wasn't featured here. There was a brutal police and military repression and massacre on a peaceful student protest against, ironically, police brutality (among other things) that took place right before the Mexico City Olympics in 1968. It actually happened in part *because* of the upcoming Olympic games, as the mexican government didn't want any visible social unrest during such an important event. Official numbers say there were around 70 fatalities, but witnesses and non-government sources clock it in at over 200. When you go there, you can really feel the...idk, bad vibes of what happened there, it was a really dark moment.
Anyway, this was a really interesting map, I'd love to see more of it. It is important for people to know a little bit about things like these. Maybe not get hung up or obsessed with the tragedy, bc that isn't healthy, but just to be aware and have some sympathy.
