I agree with you rev. PvP has improved. Sometimes someone has a much bigger ship and you have no chance. Boohoo, repair and resend. Then hit their weaker teammate if they are targeting you. I've never come close to running out of repair speedups, rss, etc. Losing isn't all that impactful. Most events include points for losing. Arenas include faction currency for losing. Winning is better, but in most situations losing is better than not participating.
I was in the right place in the SLB brackets at the right time to be an early adopter of the MU crews. Smoking everyone ever since. Double my power? No problem! Imagine my surprise when I finally lost to a Striketeam crew during last weeks arena. Blew my mind
Finally got Arena time today. Enjoyed it, partly because we won all of them but it felt more balanced going against players who were at best 4 Ops levels above me. Didn't win every ship to ship battle but more than i thought i would given i don't have Freeman, MU crew, LD crew or Weyoun.
Thanks for the video. The suggestions really help, but the main problem with the arena continues to be mismatches. It is a clear gap between whales and the minnows when it comes to investment and the bands need to be adjusted. As an Ops 50 squad leader, I should not be able to be in a band with Ops 57 players. The balancing is nonexistent. This second run of the Arena has generated more mismatches than last week and ruined the goodwill that a lot of players had last week. A ‘surrender’ option is definitely needed so that you don’t waste 10 minutes getting stomped on by players 5 Ops levels above you with ships 5 to 10 times stronger than your best ship running the new meta. And can we please be allowed to repair both ships at the same time?! Time is too short to be handicapped like that when your best ships get smoked and points are at a premium.
If they want matchmaking to be more "fair" (it'll never be though), they need to limit it to grade of ships at the very least. If I'm G4, I should not be facing G5 ships, etc.
@revdeuce don't know if you read this comment, but i hear many in our alliance complain about the ops missmatch in pvp arena matchups so my idea (that I hope you pitch to Scopely) to improve pvp arena is simple: on the pvp arena server make all players same ops, unlock all ships and all officers and have them have the same research. That way it really becomes fun, anyone can fight anyone, no more waiting for squad to gather because all players would be same level, matchmaking is simple for the same reason. It then only comes down to picking the right ships, crewing and tactics, which is what PVP is all about. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and propose it to Scopely! Won´t happen. The arena has a specific purpose. They want players to feel "week" so that they invest more in their account. Buy FT´s, buy PVP Primes and so on... I totally understand what they are trying. The main goal of the game, and let's be honest, is to make money. Game experience is second or third on their list :D The only thing that I am hoping, is that the account grading (bronze, silver...) will filter out the high spenders and the low spenders, so that a bronze player will not compete with a silver player.
Ok, let's say they do entertain this pipe dream of yours. What Ops lvl do they choose? 40, then everyone above that who worked on getting those G4 and G5 ships opt out. I know let's go with 70... wait that doesn't work either now we have to figure out what we add to every non 70 account for the purpose of a 10 minute flight. It will take longer for them to figure out what they want to use AND now you have just pissed off the money because you are giving everything away, even for ten minutes at a time. I know let's do lvl 1 that way... Nope same problem as with 40. Oh well, guess that the most viable option is the ship class bands 40-41, 42-45, 46-49, 50-52, 53-56, 57-60 ECT I'm Ops 45 so G4 uncommon is the best I have access to outside of specialty ships. Went against a 48 that decimated us with a T9 Pilum. We couldn't touch it and with the speed crew on it we couldn't out run it either. He just hit anything that wasn't his team. No, at 46 I wouldn't be able to beat it right away but after I built mine and got it tired I would at least have a chance.
@@maresplacenot since the Saudis took over the company. 😂. Their only focus is profit and forcing PvP mismatches with the promise of greater rewards if you can do well in the arena will drive spending and boost their revenue. Scopely always wins.

So far it's been fun less lag with 3 ... the limit on insta repairs and 8 wins to full pull for a week is a but much ... but it's Def a start on somthing that can be fun. Once the tech is solid expanding beyond 8 hrs would be nice
There's times that feels good, but I think since you're rewarded for losses, some teams would just only surrender. If the other team is unopposed though, they should end the match within the 1st 5 minutes.... though you used to be able to in like 3 minutes in a 5v5
I tried. Played in a few Arenas yesterday during the US slot. I'm 47. Went in with 3 high level 40's on my side. Was matched against people with 52+ ships. Slaughtered. Then had a match with 2 low 40's and a 50. The 50 showed up in a huge 150M plus Hegh'Ta showed up. When it was 5 on 5 we can tie up ships like that. With 3 on 3 they dominate. Gave up after 4 matches. Was tired of being overpowered.
I’m never going to be a huge fan of PvP, but out of the all the iterations of PvP they’ve tried I think the Arena is the best mainly because of the favours & others rewards that can be obtained through it. Yes the games are often unbalanced and sometimes it’s difficult to see why, but this is a pay to win game so there’s always going to be balance issues. All I can say is yesterday I had more PvP battles that I wasn’t 100% certain was going to go one or other than I have in all the incursions and territory capture combined, plus all they cost is your time. Yes improvements could & should be made by encourage everyone to at least give it a fair shot.
Arena was weird today. I participated in some in the middle of the timespan and they were fine. I did some more late and they were bugged. 1st one gave no points for armadas to anyone and we adjusted and won. 2nd and 3rd were similar but mid way through the opponents started getting points for armadas and we didn't. It was total bullsquit.
90% of matches are still roflstomps for one side. I wish you would go thru more varieties and lower decks. I got both mirror epics and I try to emulated what I see but so far they fail me (MData, Kira, Picard for instance with all assimilated below and some iso)
It is definitely mismatched. As an Ops 44 I was something like 110 strongest at that lvl and #1 on my server. I still have people smacking my ships with Miners that are a higher power than my account. It is insane.
I love the new Arena, yeah sometimes you get stronger enemys but if you play smart with the armadas you can still win. I feel like the most people that cry are this who have no FKR Ship for there level or a pvp crew. I am 45 had a 46 and 49 teammate and we beat 3 times Teams with a 52!
Yeah PvPing is definitely not the only tactic. Speed crews doing mad PvE can win if the other team isnt smart enough to do the big armadas in the middle
I think when it comes to the arena, they managed to stop ships using cloaking to their advantage, so why can't they stop all other buffs and abilities and make ships a standard power to be equal with each other regardless of ops level or ship. That way a level 40 and level 70 can go toe to toe in a fight. Then let it come down to stopping the other side from running those armadas.
already did the survey, today has been worse that last week, the matchup algorithm is terrible. Multiple times a group of high 55-59 players going againsts 64+ players. There is no chance when that happens.
I managed to max my HG Worf recently , Phlox on the other hand is only Rank 1 and the other players i know only unlocked him ... one guy who "invested" money has him at Rank 2 - without sourcing Phlox will not be able to counter HG Worf for quite a while ...
He only sort of works, largely because almost everyone's Phlox will be a lower tier than someone's HGWorf equivalent. Many players have a Tier 4 or 5 HGworf, most people have a Tier 1 or 2 Phlox. But... Weyoun-Pon-Ransom are an excellent counter to HGWorf and the Extra shots from Weyoun are massive if you're fighting the Mirror-Mirror-HGWorf crew
Ive done more than 6 arena at ops 42. Weather we win or lose it has been completely lopsided. This time 3 42´s were match with a 50, 46 and 48. Not worth the fight. All where does one get armarda token for the aren_
Great info rev but pvp in this game is extremely unbalanced and nearly impossible to fix without a massive overhaul which I think scopley would be unwilling/ unable to do due to the selling of pvp related items/primes, etc . The necessity for short term quarterly profit gains has lead to long term PvP headaches.
Its not everybody cup of thea... rev what tea you drinking to think arena is anything acceptable. Its a terrible pvp implementation where scopely as always just pushes something out that is not working propperly, is imbalansed AF and gives stability issues all for the sake of pushing content to sell new stuff. If they actually would care for the average player they would test content for longer time internaly before throwing is to the masses. Its just like most content, at best its below average in quality. At worst........

Couldnt disagree more. The only bad part is that they have to keep it so short. You arent always going to get great matchups but overall, Arena is real fun.
I started playing STFC at the end of 2019. I am mostly free to play(I used to pay..now I just play). This game is no longer fun. It is magic the gathering in space.

Ship strength is literally the smallest factor in PvP at the moment. Officers > Buildings > Research > FT > Ship at the moment. I've killed 5* ships with a Kehra, the ship is literally a tin can carrying your officers and research, it barely matters.
PvP Balancing in STFC is impossible ... and will be impossible forever ! there is simply too many "pay to win" mechanics from too many sources when players with the same or lower Levels they lose because my research is more advanced i simply cause their Criticals to ZERO damage - because they don´t have the critical floor research Because i am a Lv50 Player "higher Level Player" means the jump from G4 to G5 , that translate in 100 +millions more Ship Power more damge , more HP , more access to Research more Artefacts , forbitten Tech etc.... when you bought the Ferengi Whip in the past - you will have ALOT of Forbidden PvP Tech that other players do not have ... up to +4500 % PvP damage + 600% crit dmg + 3000% Hull healt ++ all the iso dmg in the game is REALLY hard to beat and there the Officer stand point - you don´t have the PvP officers - you lose every time you miss only a sinlge shard of the officer ? too bad
Tantalus is good, but Crewing is obviously more powerful than that one FT. You can do actual counter crews in a lot of cases, this video just doesn't really explain it well.

I've been doing OK with new arena. Only bug bear is the lag. It was really stopping me from going after players and armada.

Supposedly there was balancing for PVP but I don't see any balancing for 14m ships vs 44m or more. Arena is made only for P2W players and not F2P.

Forbidden tech can throw it out of balance. I faced a guy 2 ops levels lower than me but his PvP FT was completely maxed. Got slaughtered.
