Yeah! I just commented about the seemingly lack of regular/small sized train station options in their Dev Log entry on trains and railways; turns out I was on the mark with my concern. I knew it! They don't have normal train stations!

Loved the video! There is actually is a way to control sprawl in CS2. If you increase taxes for that residential type, the demand will go down and vice versa. You can even lower the taxes into the negatives AKA subsidize residential to increase demand
Hey! The taxes are set on an education level basis, so I don't think there is a way to discourage low density residential I think. I'm a bit disappointed by how the density functions but I guess that's more realistic and it should look more organic when the city gets bigger.
You talking about that forestry industry area you placed next to your city center, with that backstory of once having owned more land but having sold it for houses, reminds me so much of just how many pine plantations there were dotted all around my home city's 'CBD' in the inner/urban suburbs on the 1950s-ish print of its old tram/trolleybus routes I have. It can honestly be so fascinating looking at old labelled maps and seeing all the land uses that once called the center of a city home.
i appreciate your style of play so hearing your perspective on the base game is great! i too play pretty modded and detail oriented but still want to give vanilla a shot when it comes out! this helps me prepare for that! also love the layout of the city! can't wait to see part 3

Loving your frank thoughts and observations. The devs are listening, so please keep calling out what you need / want to see! I am not 100 per entry sold on every choice they’ve made (props, for example, and the different cities seem to look very similar to one another atm) but I’m still super excited, and it’s clear they’ve tried to listen to the community and address the complaints with CS1. If they need more time to perfect it I hope they delay until it’s ready
I'm happy to know that developpers are listenning to players ! maybe one day a player of City Skylines will have the opportunity to be heard for the creation of a real life city in Japan or somewhere in the world ! It will prove that players that understand that you need to have an equivalence of your games in reality to have an impact on people can make the world a fun place !
Definitely hyped about the game. Given BSQs critiques I feel like they should create a more detailed demand bar so it tells you exactly which subtype of zoning is in demand; industrial demand can be both manufacturing and office, just separate it into two bars of different shades. Same thing with commercial demand; shops, tourism, leisure. Same thing with housing, low density, medium density, high density. And just make the shades different enough so that you just have to glance at it and come to an easy conclusion as to the demand.
The new roads mechanics are amazing, but I do wish that we had more variety in building sizes. I don't tend to build major metropolises but rather tourist areas, university towns, rural areas with many smaller towns, not huge cities. I hope that our fantastic workplace creators will quickly give us more varied options for these mandatory buildings. For examples, look at Georgetown University in the US where on Google Maps you can't tell if it's a university building or city building unless you zoom in because it built up by buying individual buildings or land for them as it expanded. Or a university like Virginia Tech with many, many buildings spread out over a huge campus with lots of open spaces and the town surrounding it but not integrated with it. I want that variety, those options.
Cracking video, nice to hear some more input. Also ur train station is awesome 👌 way better than what id do 😂 theres alot of room for improvement but its a great foundation going forward.

In response to the bit where you're talking about the Stations, Something i always wished for in CS:1 was scenic tourist Train lines that have Steam Engines, Britain has many old Steam line where you take the Family out for the day & have a train ride maybe to a Castle or a Small coastal town for the day, Sometimes it's a famous engine or Thomas. Japan has the 7 stars railway which is a super luxurious Train. I don't know how they'd get a Turntable for the Steam engine to work though. but the'yd really add some character to our cities.
The way you and other creators describe the issues with demand, jobs, and production sound exactly like the kind of problems real cities have to deal with.
I would love to just see everything zoomed in on. All the videos I have seen of this game seem to show everything but the up close details of the cars people and buildings.
the neighborhood across the bridge desperately needs a second bridge across the river. you normally wouldn't force every resident of a neighborhood on and off the highway just to get to their schools that are very closeby. A small second bridge for local traffic would help them get downtown as well as reduce traffic on that big interchange/intersection
Do we know if they are going to let you keep these builds/saves, or will they be lost forever? I would love for this one and some of the other streamers' cities to be uploaded to Steam when the game is live!
YES. 10000000% down for metro-like, middle-of-nowhere train tracks with nothing but a tiny overpass! Ideally, I'd like for them to have Tram-like station markers to train tracks, with near-zero capacity by default, and the ability to add capacity by increasing the length of or adding platforms. That way I'd be able to re-create ANY train station I've seen in real life, from both simple ones to very complex cross-lined transfer stations (e.g. Akihabara Station in Tokyo, Japan)
Question: When terraforming, did you get the feel that the terrain mesh is any higher poly than in cities 1? The relatively low detail terrain mesh (compared to, say, Transport Fever 2) was one of the limitations that modders were never able to alter in cities 1 and it would be nice if that improved. Seeing those auto-generated underpass areas makes me think it did.
Perhaps what you are saying with the “quibbles” you’re identifying, is you are seeking the ability to down-scale assets. I do appreciate CO showcasing new vanilla assets in the upcoming version. But I think what it needs is the ability to allocate game functions to designed or downloaded assets. Make a platform beside a train line & allocate it a game function of a train station/stop. CS1 had RICO mod, correct. You added a function box to an asset. Well CS2 needs the same - but for ALL game functioning asset types.
Great video. Just ignore all the winning children and their comments really appreciate your videos. CS2 is an excellent game and is only going to get better.
I mean in mostly every video i see the same, players just slapping down stuff after stuff, make new areas put down parks and new zones. Massive fail. It's literally nothing but the worst aspects of Sim City games. For instance, it's got a lot of Sim City 2013 in it like the weird modular buildings and has the Sim City 3000 aesthetic... not good choices.
The thing you said about train stations is so annoying! In CS1 I always wanted more train station options and thankfully there were smaller ones on the workshop, so many train stations in the suburbs are normally very small with one set of tracks and the thing is, that's what you'd be using most train stations for, suburbs! Why is the smallest option 3 sets of tracks? Could they have not utilized the same system that buses and trams have by just adding a stop? Then we can just run a road near it and have a functioning train station? Also imagine a town of like 2000 pop with a huge train depot, like the expansion feature could help add more tracks too but instead it just adds more buildings like bruh. Hope the final release has more train options.
