After 6 years of dreaming to do the Beehive Traverse again, I finally got back to do it with Will and David. Will and I first did the route in 2018 and it has since been one of the best backcountry experiences I've ever had. This return trip however didn't go as planned, and it was cut short. Watch to see how it all unfolds.

Not every trip goes as planned. And some go worse than others. Thank you for putting this out. So much of RUclips is just the best bits, and it’s just not realistic. I think seeing a trip like this is so helpful, especially for new backpackers, but even for those of us with hundreds and hundreds of miles under our feet.

Thank you, my friend! Pretty wild what can happen and it’s always a matter of when, not if.

Man such a good video to show the reason to carry a real first aid kit not just a few bandages and some leukotape. Glad everyone is safe

Yeah in areas like this it’s just really harsh conditions and opportunities for bad things to happen are higher. My WFR training has been one of the best things I’ve invested in and it’s been a huge help for being out.

Glad to finally get to this trip video! That water looked super sketchy! I hope you buddy is okay as well. I am glad you made it back safely. I have seen the Stio brand on a few other YT channels recently. Interested to try one for myself one day. Great video, as always.

Yeah I’m quite enjoying the Stio apparel so far! Will is doing well. The next day he was pretty bruised on his eye and cheek area. But he’s doing well. Could have been waaaay way worse!

Most everyone will be HOT when hiking in 85ºF. The NEED for water in these temperatures can mean the difference between living & dying. I, for one, simply don't go hiking if I can possibly avoid it in temperatures above 80ºF.
"Dead Bird Water" - At least you have & are using Sawyer Squeeze water filters, which is the one you WANT, if not carrying/using a Grayl water filter. Excellent, that you were smart enough to boil the water AFTER filtering it - to be safe.
Those CNOC water bags with the slider tops make for easy filling.
Steri Strips is something I've recently added to my First Aid Kit. They work.
Gotta know when to "hold 'em" & when to "fold 'em".
Any thoughts on carrying/using a Grayl water filter which would have eliminated the need to boil the "Dead Bird water"?
HUGE, thank you, for producing this video when thing "happen". Hopefully, your viewers will all learn the importance of making SMART decisions.
    Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada

I didn’t necessarily feel the “need” to boil, as I have full trust in Sawyer handling it all by itself. Just boiled as an extra measure.

I thought that icky pool of water in your photo earlier was just a photoshopped hole into a starry sky. didnt know what I was looking at tbh.

It sure looked like that didn’t it?! Ha!
Pretty gnarly stuff. The taste wasn’t so bad, but the second hole we collected from, that water was pretty nasty tasting stuff. Even with a Tailwind hydration packet it still was yuck!

Can you share the gpx track or general route info. I’d love to go do it (when the water situation improves).

      @BackcountryExposure  8 минут назад

Feel free to email me, and we can talk about it. I don’t normally just toss out gpx routes. Not trying to gatekeep it, but it’s an incredibly rugged and tough off trail route. So I’m careful to just share. Hope that makes sense and can understand. 😊

Grayl water for sure. Certainly not Sawyer water without a rolling boil!

Nah, I completely trust Sawyer to handle it all. Sawyer has their filters in some pretty gnarly areas with much worse water than this was. I did filter and boiled about 1.5 liters of the 2 liters I had. But full faith in Sawyer!
