For the first time ever, the Cadillac Escalade is being offered with a 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel! This engine costs the same as the 6.2L gas V8, makes the same 460 lb-ft of torque, and combined with the 10 speed automatic transmission, delivers a seriously more efficient luxury SUV. One slight surprise is the inline 6 diesel is actually rated to tow slightly less than the gas (supposedly due to the increase in weight). Regardless, the smooth and torque Duramax fits perfectly with this giant luxury SUV, offering peak torque at 1500 rpm, and a extremely impressive fuel range. This Platinum trim Escalade brought the amazing things I loved about the first one, the OLED screens, the AKG sound system, the comfort, the presence. After 1000 miles with this one, I am firmly convinced that the Duramax diesel is absolutely the perfect powertrain to pick for the new Cadillac flagship luxury SUV!

Fun fact: The Cadillac Escalade and Lamborghini Aventador models share their suspension system technology. GM’s Magnetic Ride Control was licensed to Lamborghini for the Aventador model. Released in 2020, MRC 4.0 is still currently the *worlds fastest adapting suspension system.*

Really useful video. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up! One thing I wonder is with the lower horsepower that comes with the higher torque how well will this accelerate trying to pass someone on the hills of a high mountain highway if you are already going say 70 mph before beginning to pass? I ask because i clearly see how the high torque that kicks in at a lower speed is great for the zero to sixty sort of thing, but what about if already at high speeds on a highway hill and wanting to speed up further. Any thoughts would be welcome. Otherwise, incredible engine. Your comment at about or just after the 9:30 mark about some fumes coming in thru the open back window when driving and filming thru the open back window, it concerns me. Any further thoughts on that? Could have been just a unique circumstance I suppose, but wondering.
On a separate thought, I love the light color leather interior, except for the light colored floors, those concern me since at different times people get into my vehicles after having been out and about getting dirty doing different things, myself as the driver included. I think this lighter color might be better if it came with black, carpeted floors, though this concern may not be as big for some as others. I wonder, can you get black premium carpeted floor mats to put in over the light carpeting, ideally that would cover much of the surrounding carpet not just wear your feet are most of the time? This is an suv that passengers can move around in between seats and rows after all, not just sit in one spot the whole time. I ask because I prefer the carpeted floors to the rubber mats, though I do suspect one can always get the black weather mats to largely address this concern.

Great review Eddie! I am seeing a ton of these brand new Escalades so I suspect that Cadillac is selling a ton of them. Cadillac put the DEF sprout right by the gas fill area like a normal person. BMW put the DEF sprout in the X5 in two places in the engine bay. Beautiful vehicle!

  • @alanholmes2366

Nice to see how this video aged. He was paying barely 3.00/gallon for diesel. 1yr later it's 4-7.00/gallon. 25mpg is nice but you have higher maintenance costs (oil changes) with diesel, added cost of Def fluid and the higher cost of diesel itself. After all that and paying the intial premium for the diesel option gas is really break even or a little cheaper over 5yrs of ownership.

I just love the car, but fuel range looks little off, it looks like it takes about 30 gallon, so on an average of 24 to 25, should give you easily above 700 miles, I drive GMC Yukon for living, has 5.3 gas engine, I can almost every can get close to 600 miles, I love to have an Escalade, any problems so far? Electronics or the Diesel engine?
    Thank you

It only took them like 20 years to put the Duramax in this truck despite the trucks need for the Duramax for the entirety of that 20 years. The vehicle is obsolete already and throwing a Duramax motor after a long last is not going to change that.

Almost Half of 2021 Cadillac Escalades Have Sold for over $100K
The redesigned 2021 Escalade starts at $77,490 for the base Luxury trim, but GM reports that 43 percent of buyers paid more than $100,000 for theirs.
"[The] all-new Cadillac Escalade retook market leadership in its segment in Q4," GM stated in its 2020 fourth-quarter sales report. It sold 9454 Escalades in that time, including 2020 models. GM also said the Escalade's fourth-quarter retail deliveries were up 19 percent. Car & Driver
