This is one of my favorite performances from solo piano - ever! Totally all encompassing and brings one face to face with the great abyss. Very special performance. The man is a vessel and the Universe is speaking thru him.
it's so hard to get inspired if you're a professional and a skeptic. this performance captures my heart from the first second and does not let go until the last note. I will always listen again
This has been a labor of love for probably the last two years and it's finally done! It's such a masterful performance by Brad! @@dasha_true_piano Yes, it took me 2 years to write this all out, with lots of breaks. I would get stuck on a part, and maybe step away for several weeks and then come back to it. So, it wasn't 2 solid years of work.
4:49 the way he develops that bass ostinato is amazing. The left hand obligato melodies during the RH semiquavers too all leading up to this... Section at 11:39 with all the LH chords is an incredible moment. He's not even looking at the keys and the harmonies are lush. He's just in another dimension being a vessel for something truly magical ❤ If all this is pure improvisation in the moment then wow
I was at one of his concerts a few years back. Didn't know much about him and the trio at the time but it was one of the best non-classic concerts I've been to. The power and the intensity with which they performed made me speechless. Was so excited to discover your transcription, thank you so much!
Wow. I've always loved this song. I'm also looking to improvise better on the piano SO when I stumbled across Brad "playing" this song I was literally mesmerized in my chair for 14 straight minutes. I was in a different universe. ( I like jazz but I don't like arrangements that are overly dissonant . I like songs that have a little bit of a new age bent to them as well). Holy crap. This guy blew my socks off. I started to look at Michael Lucke's other transcriptions as well. Can't wait to purchase a few of these and study and play around with them. Thanks Michael. Your work is priceless!
So maybe this video answers the question, but what is your personal favorite tune of his that you've transcribed or just heard? You've got your ear closer to it than most. I've grabbed lines of his I liked but going through the whole thing like you do is mindblowing.
..dear michael lucke, thank you for another amazing transcription. will this video be deleted & the solo published again? :) even though i'm mainly playing saxophone i can't stop myself to play this.. it's so beautiful.. so thank you again.. this helps to develop my musicality, piano & composition skills a lot. regards, joscha..

Brad Mehldau is magnificent. Tonality, technique, counterpoint, chords. Magical.

I have such feelings. Brad is not the most popular pianist, there is so little ostentation in him, and how much depth
Incredible sensitivly played, wonderful!!!
Great job
Such an inspiring concert In Toronto...
Great arrangement
I don't believe you finally did it...OMG, Michael! You are the greatest. Thank you so much!!!
reminds me of Paul Lloyd Warner's style, awesome !!!
Your transcription is an inspiration to me as someone that has started to take transcribing more seriously in the past year.

Haha, that's basically how it started it out. I've got a bunch of Chick Corea and Fred Hersch (among others) now too, though!
