Just gonna explain what happened at 10:40
So, what Light did was that he got up to tell Riddles what his bans were. What does this mean? Well:
In smash bros., you strike stages until you choose where to play.
    1. First game is picked between 5 "starter" stages (the most neutral stages in the game). The players do rock, paper scissors or something similar to decide who gets priority
    2. The person with priority strikes one stage
    3. The person who lost strikes two stages
    4. The person with priority picks which stage the first game will be played on, from among the two remaining stages
    5. The winner of the most recent match tells the opponent which two stages they ban among the legal stages (starter + counter-pick)
    6. The loser of the most recent game gets to pick freely from the remaining (five-six) stages (divided among the five starter stages and two-three counter-pick stages)
The reason why Riddles didn't do the same was because he signaled with his hands that he wanted "the same bans" as he chose in the step 1-3 process and after winning the first game (the signal where he rolled his fingers in front of himself while looking at Light).
I understand that this might look at little bit strange to someone who comes from a traditional fighter, but stages matter so much more in smash brothers, because of how important the width of stages, the amount of platforms (0-3), the placement of said platforms, the blast zones (the areas where you die if you're sent there) varying in distance from the main part of the stage (to the top, bottom and sides). Some characters generally kill other characters upwards, some downwards, and some to the side, which makes the blast zone distance extremely important. There are also stages with walls below them, allowing some of the cast additional opportunities to get back on stage by jumping on said walls.
Hope this was helpful and/or useful to some of you out there!

Yea unless you're playing a fighting game character in smash the execution is pretty easy although I feel like in smash there are so much more mixups to worry about and percent specifics for things to work propperly. Also learning matchups is way harder, I feel like both games have different dificulty levels in different areas.

    • @FlaskFlash
      @FlaskFlash Год назад +10

@@42Tangent Smash execution is not easy by any means at high level. Im not even talking about all the melee or ultimate tech, but the very fundamentals. Smash operates in the 2 axis in a whole different level than other fighting games. While it is completely true that it is less input heavy regarding singular combos (this meaning that the number of inputs, or the complexity of inputs needed to do an attack is less prevalent), the amount of spacing needed when it comes to performing those combos or even playing a proper neutral (you can space everything in ground or in the air, you can keep moving your character while inputing a hit and having and active hitbox in the air and every single character has a different air speed and drift) is unparaleled. Just watch at the raw amount of times these two keep throwing hits at each other mid air, while also fighting for the stage control and trying to edgeguard the oponent without connecting a single hit.
And this is without even addresing your own point, the thing about combos and mixups being based on %, so you have to know the weight and floatiness of every single relevant character in the rooster (a fucking lot in ultimate), at which % combos are true, consider DI and SDI (in smash, you can greatly influence the direction your character is throwed by enemy hits by inputing directional inputs).

So glad to see Riddles finally win a major! He deserves it
Also here's some insight on the controversy of Kazuya potentially being broken from someone who's been playing Smash and watching tournaments on and off since Brawl on the Wii:
I haven't followed Smash closely in a while but I doubt Kazuya is broken. There's a constant cycle of (insert character) suddenly does well at a tournament, then said character becomes controversial, people ask if we should ban, and then after a while everyone gets over it and we move on to the next character. Right now it's just Kazuya's turn. Before that it was Steve from Minecraft. I remember it being Sonic and Pikachu for a time. Very early on I remember it being K Rool and he's not even considered good now. A lot of times people will adamantly argue that a character is not that strong, but as soon as they do well the controversy comes out. Smash Ultimate is just a pretty well balanced game with a LOT of characters, and many characters are just showing up on people's radar later than others. It's not really that any character has been particularly broken or ban worth by a mile. It's just that this is how the Smash community is and has been for a while. Constantly complaining and figuring out how to make everything controversial. They also have tons of content creators and a lot of them feed into it for views. I'm sure there's going to be replies about specific strengths that make Kazuya strong that are going to make him sound broken in the comments and maybe replies, but there's two things to keep in mind when you read those. One, most people explaining that have probably never even won a local so they don't know what they're talking about. And two, you could break down plenty of characters in this game to make them sound really good. I can't argue specifics tbh, butI've seen this pattern happen over and over since as long as I've been following the community. Especially when it comes to this game in particular, it's constant. This isn't really a Smash specific issue, but it seems to be the most apparent with them. Probably because they have the largest fan base by far. You can see a shift from a more traditional FGC mindset to this type of mindset when a niche series gets big, like with Guilty Gear. DBFZ and MK also have huge followings and you get this a lot. Seems to be the trend to me. I hope that makes sense and I don't sound like just another crazy person in the RUclips comments, but yeah I hope this is insightful to people.
Feel free to reply and disagree but I'm probably not gonna argue back. I've seen how this community acts and thinks for too long. I know I'm right. 90% of controversy about literally everything is irrelevant and wrong.

Kazuya is considered broken in smash because the whole risk vs reward concept on his attacks are REALLY favorable to Kazuya most of the time. For instance, the EWGF has full body invulnerability from frame 4 to frame 8 (it hits on the 8th frame), and has a 2 frame input window rather than being a true just frame, AND only has 35 total frames, so not really easy to whiff punish, and players will often use it as a substitute for spotdodging(it will beat most attacks due to the i-frames). The reward when hitting it at ANY percent is an entire stock from the opponent, whereas the risk you take is simply getting hit by one stray attack, if at all lol.
That is to say that the only thing you really need to learn if you want to play Kazuya is how to combo from EWGF, since the input itself isn't even that hard, everything else you can just learn as you go on lol. Because of this, Kazuya has been terrorizing local scenes with a buttload of players picking him up because they want to win, so everyone just hates facing him now. even vs a bad kazuya player, all it takes is one grab/ewgf for you to lose a stock, and it gets even worse when facing a good kazuya player, since he can crouch dash he has access to much better ground movement than any other character in the game. i personally dont think he should be banned, but most players find him very frustrating to play against. also smash community calls for bans way more than any other community ive seen lol

Smash community calls for bans too often because they got terrorized by pikachu in 64, and metaknight for 8 years straight because TOs were tiptoeing around banning him. It would be like if t7fr vanilla akuma stayed in the game without changes for the whole duration, or t5dr never came out and you were stuck with vanilla steve. People don’t want a repeat of brawl or the last year of smash 4 with bayo where almost every competition was super unfun the entire time because everyone was playing a single character that shat on everyone else

Also to add onto the final hit Riddles got to win the tournament, that was Kazuya’s Up-B (Up Special) and typically the Up-B is the recovery move of a character to get back to stage. Kazuya’s Up-B, like many others, has a hitbox during the move which killed Fox in this scenario.

the normal wavedash or crouchdash (or ig wavu i dont play tekken) input in smash is forward, down, down-forward. For riddles to do the wavedashes that many times that fast using that method tho is rly hard. However, there was some new tech found to do the quick wavedash spam by canceling them into each other using a new method that uses both sticks on the controller. You hold the left stick forward and flick down on the right stick (or c-stick for gamecube controllers), which ultimately results in a crouch dash. Usually flicking down on the right stick does an attack, but in this case it is just counted as a down input for like a millisecond for some reason idk i only know what the tech is not why it works (maybe someone can tell me). This means the entire input includes a forward input (at the very beginning when you push the left stick forward), a down input using the right stick, and another forward (/down forward) input from you still holding the left stick forward even after the right stick flick. This is essentially what smash players like riddles do to perform the wavedashes, but idk maybe you guys all know this in tekken i just wanted to let you guys know in case I saw someone in chat ask.

@TheMainManSWE what's hard is depending on the opponent character's, the combos available aren't the same vs every characters. also, right when the opponent lands on the ground, not all options are available depending on character. Also, when opponent falls in a tumble state (a bit like the spin launching in Tekken) the possible pick-ups move aren't all the same.
for example, certains characters like Pikachu can't be EWGF when landing or being tumbled. you got to low kick or low punch him first before you can EWGF.
Same for lifting kick, etc... so Riddles has mastered the knowledge, logic & Input vs the whole smash Roster(about 82 characters if we don't count Echo fighters [clone characters]).

kazuya is considered broken cus of all the death combos and the invincibility present on a lot of his attacks. EWGF is actually FULLY invincible when its starting up, even when the hitbox comes out (although only for the first hitbox frame). a majority of his other moves also have invincibility on his attacking limbs which makes them very difficult to challenge, which is something most smash characters dont even have. hell even his crouch dash has 2 frames of full invincibility, with the rest of the frames just being his upper body being invincible (i think the invincibility is to represent the low/high crush system in tekken)
dont think hes banworthy tho even if he basically plays a different game

  • @21Handguns
    @21Handguns Год назад +23

i love how Tekken is all about mastering the mechanics of the game, and the more and more deeper you go into the game itself the better you get,and that is how Kazuya works in smash. If you don't know,(and this may be a suprise with how much people have been crying, and yes this is coming from a smash veteran back from te sm4sh days as well as a tekken player) he does not have big damaging true combos, and lacks in reach as well as jump height. His "combos" are structured by reading the opponent, where they land, how they DI,their air dodges, etc. You gotta read those, then punish that to keep a combo going, which is basically using the game's mechanics to your advantage.
Basically,if you get death comboed by him,or lose to him,it probably is not because he is broken, but because you made bad decisions and got punished for it. If you got "outplayed," it was not by the character but by the player who was controlling him,and with all this being taken into account the player was not carried. He outplayed you in the most literal sense lmao.
The modern smash community is probably the worst when it comes to strong characters. The second there is a good character, they immediately cry about it and rush to ban the character instead of taking 15 minutes in the lab and just practicing against strong opponents...actually now that I think of it,the modern FGC does the same thing lol. Maybe we got more in common than you think

For those curious CDC is done with the shuriken Input. You can increase the speed of the cdc with the second stick (c-Stick or tilt stick. Most smash players use Gamecube controllers including riddles) by using it to input some of the Shuriken input due the the tilt stick being a macro in smash code. it is pretty hard to get down, but very rewarding if learned properly. Kazuya in Smash in a nutshell from pros to cons:
    Cons:
    -Horrible recovery and slow.
-Incredibly hard, if not the hardest smash character out of 80+ characters.
-Hard execution for the simplest moves in Smash standards.
    -Horrible neutral, almost always loses.
    -Horrible disadvantage state.
-Horrible against Zoners like Smash's Minecraft Steve, DBFZ's Freiza, or GG's Zato-1.
    Pros:
    -Good Mix-up.
-Heaviest Fighting Game Character in the Smash Roster, less knockback at low percentages, usually needs to kill at high percentage.
-5x Kill throws, this dude really can grab and kill in 5 different ways.
-Full-page long move-set, only Terry can come close, but Kazuya takes the cake with the sheer amount of moves.
-Majority of his moves can kill, most characters has 1-3 ways to kill, Kazuya has that full page and each one can kill.
-He trips, he stuns, he has heavy armor, he can break sheild, he can ignore sheild, the top half of his body doesn't exist when he crouch dashes, he has rage art that does 40% damage and can kill some characters at 40%.
-Master him, touch of death, literally. Even the top pros in Smash used to call him low-tier, but now they all agree that the moment Kazuya touches you, assume that you're dead.
-Kazuya has 3 jumps and can float due to his wings.
    -His recovery jump can kill.
-EWGF can stun enemies and typically guarantee a kill.
-Best comeback mechanic in the game.

Some clarification on the kazuya controversy (and my opinion on it): Kazuya is a very strong character and has plenty of extremely unfair moves/properties. However, he is not a competitive menace like some top tier characters and is far from ban worthy (for competitive reasons). Kazuya has only won one major so far, and has little representation in high level smash (for example, there was only 1 kazuya in the top 50 of the orionrank 2022 tourney compared to the 4 steves and 4 robs in the same top 50). In reality, he is a top 15 character, maybe top 10 at best. There are plenty of other characters that are better than him. The reason so many people complain about him is because the smash community will often complain about a character they don't like instead of grinding out the matchup. Kazuya has glaring weaknesses that are quite easy to exploit. If the smash community learned how to exploit those weaknesses instead of complaining, Kazuya's would have a much harder time. However, there is another reason for the complaints that could justify a ban. Kazuya does worsen the quality of the game. Kazuya, along with most of dlc pack 2, encourages a mashier playstyle where players mash safe moves and capitalize when one connects. This playstyle becomes much more apparent online and at mid-level play. Unlike games like 3rd strike where precise neutral is a large part of the game, kazuya has some leeway in being able to press buttons in neutral with less thought or consequences (ewgf is still punishable on whiff, but he has an easier time mashing). Playing against kazuya also calls for a lot of zoning and keeping away. This makes watching kazuya a bit more mundane, since the optimal way to play against kazuya is to keep your distance and box him out (that and the absence of top level neutral). Banning kazuya and dlc pack 2 would encourage learning and executing precise neutral, which is why kazuya could be banned.

The long story short about why Kazuya is controversial, he has all of the advantages of Akuma, without the need for meter to get the touch of death. In tekken everyone has the same amount of health, but smash doesn't measure health the same way, Kazuya is a heavy character, which means he takes MUCH longer to kill than the majority. Most heavy characters have the drawback of bad range, slow, easy to combo etc, but Kazuya has better range than most, he is certainly not slow, and wavedash in this game gives you intangibility frames. In this game armor moves work differently, and are much hard to snuff out (though grabs will still work) and Kazuya has both the most armor and the best armor moves. Not only does the opponent have to play the keepout gameplan (assuming you even can, keep in mind fox is among the literal fastest and best at this) but they have to do so perfectly, and Kazuya being as heavy as he is means you have to do it longer than normal and again perfectly or you lose as soon as he touches you just as akuma. With akuma, you get temporary reprieve when he has no meter, but here Kazuya doesn't have or need meter. Rage is also a bonus, but entirely unnecessary to ToD people with a single landed move which btw, in this game it's all normal hit, there is no counter-hit property in smash. Hope this helps to understand the dilemma.

Kazuya is very strong but only if the Kazuya player knows what he’s doing. All of his attacks are quite clunky, especially his aerial attacks, so his neutral is very weak. Like even his jump is weaker than everyone elses, it takes kazuya 7 frames to jump, all other characters do it in 3 frames. 90% of characters in Smash can just straight up out-maneuver Kazuya. It’s very hard to get in with him, but when he gets in, boy does he hit hard.

But people discovered how to play him and what his kit was like and it was something nobody has seen in smash before. But it was broken similar to how Akuma is broken on Tekken. He bought a playstyle thats not even in smash that makes it very easy to confirm kills as long as you know what youre doing. Considering smash character move sets are more basic than tekken his kit is far too overloaded. Extremely broken in Smash bros in right hands, terrible in the wrong.
