It doesn't sound like it's people not buying them rather it's them not being produced.
agreed! I hope no one buys these 4cyl junk

Tacoma is not selling for the same reason Tundra is not selling-high price and poor quality.
Tundra is experiencing record sales. Highest sales volume since its best years in 2007 and 2008. Initial quality concerns on perhaps 200 2022/2023 Tundras (rod bearing issues, lower seat trim fragility, window seals). 2024 seems to be solid.
@@amggeniuses45752024 Tundra’s are still having issues as well. I’ve seen multiple videos stating quality problems on that MY.
So why is Toyota offering 5000 dollars discount on 2024 Tundra if they are selling in record numbers? Just because they like you so much? No man, get real about it.
@@zemo2332 😂 My dealer actually discounted my 2024 Tundra $8500. I also financed through Toyota at 4%. Higher priced vehicles aren’t selling, period. Inflation has dramatically increased prices of everything and interest rates are quite high. Tundra is in fact experiencing its highest sales numbers since it was first introduced.
@@zemo2332 how about you get real before telling people for change. Tundra never been massive seller historically and this Tacoma matter is something simple as just supply.yet you are posting invalid and personal propaganda. So shut the hell up
Price too high compared to competitors and too many quality issues. Toyota is gouging its customers by building cheap in Mexico with low quality but charging premium prices. Don’t need Reuters to tell me why the sales suck.
Is that why they are called Tacos 😂. I wouldnt get any vehicles thats built in Mexico either.
Mexico is booming with near-shoring investments from Tech to auto-components, and the challenge is attracting and retaining skilled workers. They all struggle with Mexican electricity infrastructure and increasing costs. Mexico is not a cheap production site at all.
For many automakers, Mexican factories provide vehicles both for North and South America, so it's a very strategic location. It's very important because Latin American is one of the weakest regions for Toyota. And you missed the most important point of this video (and the Reuters article), which is that Toyota is facing a supply-chain issue in Mexico.
Currently, Toyota's production capacity is maxed out and cannot meet the full demands of their customers. Some customers are waiting months for their vehicle whether in Canada, Australia, NZ, Europe, or the US. Despite the current strong demand, Toyota had to lower their daily production target in Japan for FY2024 from 15,000 cars per day to 14,000 because they were working too hard to deliver cars. They realized they were running too fast and it was unsustainable.
Toyota's operating profit margin for North America is extremely low, far below other regions. Toyota lost money in FY2022 in North America, and FY2023 was around 3% OP margin. In other words, too much money is taken by the dealership, which is independent from Toyota. Also labor cost isn't a large component in the production cost of a car.
They are even UNDERPAYING their workers IN MEXICO compared to other jobs IN MEXICO.😂 Toyota can go home with this bullshit.
@@yo2trader539 Those are none of the customer’s problems. Toyota needs to fix those problems and go back to producing reliable affordable trucks. The Nissan Frontier has reliable NA V6 and costs far less the equivalent Toyota. There are unsold Toyota trucks in dealer lots in the US even at discounts so the demand is gone.
Toyota is not gouging customers. It’s the new CAFE guideline from the Administration that has to be met. Toyota and all manufacturers don’t have options.
Rent is too damn high
Combined with the increase. No way a 2023 TRD OR was $42k and a 2024 version equivalent is $5k more
Yup. Gas, insurance, utilities, food. Everyone wants our money.
@@josejose2100 yeah man.. not a lot of ppl talk about how high car insurance has gotten over the past couple of yrs.

@@KirkKreifels Okay. Toyota isn't paying shit for parts so the supplier can't pay acceptable wages.

They must have forgotten to change the price tag from Pesos to dollars.
Fake news to try and excuse poor sales. These are piling up on dealer lots, there is no sweeping shortage of these trucks. The problem is mostly price, but also a general downturn in auto buying due to high interest rates and slowing economy.
I have seen numerous videos from other content creators that show rows of Tacomas sitting on lots.

🎯
100% factual.
I personally don’t feel the turbo or location of assembly are the biggest problems based on what I’m hearing… it’s just that sky high price. They need to drop most trims by nearly 10k to tap into the main market for these.
and 0.00% financing
Not being able to produce them would certainly be the biggest problem.
based on what i am hearing, nobody wants the turbo 4 cyl. then there is the sticker shock. then there are the hundreds of real reviews talking about problems and ACTUAL MPG and poor quality. nissan frontier sales are up, tacoma sales are down. Toyota screwed up big time with this mexican truck. the new CEO needs to be fired.
@@billw8476 Other than the comments section on RUclips and from your "buddies" where are you "hearing" this? When a previous model ends with high sales, and there was low inventory to begin with, wouldn't it make sense that it would be difficult achieve the same sales numbers while you are ramping up a new model? It likely takes a month to get that line up to full speed so Toyota would be in a behind condition right out of the gate, no? And if you compound that with the reported labor issues (if they are true), it would seem to make sense that sales would be down. I'm not saying any or all of the things you mentioned are, or are not true, just saying maybe give it more than a few months at full production? Additionally, what does the new CEO have to do with decisions that were made years ago?
@@ytj22 well crafted response, but in error. read my initial post.
I felt like the title was misleading. You didn’t make any valid connection to why vehicles are sitting on lots in the US. They aren’t selling because the prices are too high at all trims.

Toyota doesnt pay enough so they go elsewhere to earn more, simple as that
I told you guys. Toyota customer don't want those Turbo engines and $8k to $15k price increase, that's insane. I sold Toyota until recently, customers are disappointed with the news power-train and price increased.
I'll take the turbo engine over the weak v6 anytime. But I will not pay 15k more for a truck made in mexico. In particular when toyota reports that their profit for this year is up 87%. That's profit not revenue. That's basically toyota doing its own "market adjustments" at the factory. Hell, you could sell it with a V12 for all I care that I'm not going to support this level of greed.
@@cmdrls212 Good point. The V6 is not weak put just it's not fast. Time will tell if will last but base on my 20 plus years on the car industry turbo engines don't last near has long has non Turbo. Moreover, the maintenance is higher and more. What will happen is that many customers will go to others brands like the Nissan frontier that sales numbers are up by 10%. Time will tell.

No shortage in my area. As a matter of fact this week I had a salesman text to come in and look at a new Tacoma. I told him to take me off his call list. No reason to waste his time.
Car market is terrible all over. Insurance and Fuel prices make them even more unaffordable at this point.
man not a lot of ppl talk about car insurance...
Insurance is a scam, it should be mandated as not-for-profit. Plenty of great examples of non-profit pooled insurance out there (not in the US unfortunately). The best and most affordable insurance I've ever had was government supplied non-profit. At the end of every year they had to (legislated) return all excess premiums to those that had no claims and no infractions.
With every POS vehicle out there costing absurd amounts, certainly the insurance to repair / replace those over-priced garbage cans is going to get more expensive. Then you have manufacturing and service labour thinking they're doctors and the recipe for unconstrained inflation is written.
I have a friend in Monterrey who works at one of these foreign owned plants and yeah employee turnover is not the best. It's depressing to them working 12 hour shifts for the equivalent of $20 usd while knowing that a few miles north their same effort would be valued 10x more. It's hard to keep good employees.
Build that wall!
They don't get paid $20 usd equivalent. It's around $2.74 an hour...
@crxracer805 that's still only around $30 usd a day and I personally know several people and they earn anything between $240 to $380 pesos a day working for chinese plants in Mexico. They did raised the minimum wage recently but is not like they're going to double wages overnight or anything like that.
Too damn expensive, price and interest rates
Cost way too damn much. The point of the Tacoma was to be a truck that was cheaper than a f-150 and more of a 'truck' rather than a do-it-all hauler. Now it is to bloated
I’m not paying 50k for a 4 banger
You're right. You'll pay $65k for a hybridized 4 banger lol jk
No V6 option and overpriced! People voting with their wallets.
That is if people had money to vote with...
"people voting with their wallets"........Biden will lose, and maybe the v6 will be built in front of that 8 speed, which would make EVERYONE happy.....give that some thought.
Price toooooo! high
No v6
Production volumes aren't the problem, my local dealer has over 50 2024 Tacomas in stock as of today. It's the crazy MSRP rises, the turbo engine, the nasty digital dashboard, no work trucks (SR trim) on the dealers' lots, just rows and rows of ridiculously over-priced off-road Tonka toy trims. And the same goes for the Tundra. We aren't buying Toyota's panicky PR nonsense. Blaming Mexican assembly workers is a cheap shot.
Maybe it'll bring the pricing backdown. 🙏
made in mexico ? no thanks
There seems to be a lot of them sitting on lots not selling. So halting production might have been partly due to not wanting their lots to look like an F-150 lot. If they can't keep skilled workers the quality and reliability of these tacomas will be shyt!
Toyota can kiss their brand goodbye! 50k for a Tacoma? With a 2.5l engine? People should stop buying overpriced vehicles.
Im loyal to thier 3.5l naturally aspirated v6 the v6 feels betrayed and is laughing at the 2.4l
Kirk, workers in Mexico Toyota factory are paid $2.55 an hour….off course they went somewhere else!!
The working men who buy trucks don’t want or need such an expensive vehicles.
I don’t believe the supply excuse. My local dealer has 81 sitting on the lot. With the absolute cheapest one being $38,980 and there is only ONE of those. The 2nd cheapest one is $45,209. I’m NOT joking. I understand inflationary pressures but by most measures there is a lot of cost saved on the new Tacoma between the cheaper labor in Mexico and things like a digital gauge cluster. Where does all this cost come in?
Price is the problem
Kirk is definitely in Toyota's pocket. Didn't even mention cost or degradation of quality
I (and many others) are not willing to pay far more money for a lesser product (lesser in terms of being made in Mexico and absent a larger displacement engine option).
Those Numbers for the first qt are going to be off since they were not really available to late March/early April. Numbers for the rest of the year will tell the real story.
we all know why. Price is too high for a 4 banger.
Yup $40-80K for a 4…. Pass.
Like others have said it's the price and the fact it's a 4 cylinder(that does not necessarily bother me per se but the price does). I mean and basic 4 wheel drive SR5 with a few options ticked not even close to all of them takes you up the 46K...
Up here in CANADA where I live, there’s 20 months wait period for Hybrid Rav4. I still have 10 more months until I receive my Rav4 hybrid. However, when I went to the dealer to check out new Tacoma, I was told there’s no wait period on Tacoma lol. Yes Toyota is struggling to sell these trucks for sure😂
I don’t think they care…if they sell 100k units with high price increases they will be close to their target profit. ( remember its being made in Mexico and they are still trying to pay lower than normal wages )… Corporate greedy at its best…SMH
The real reason the Tacoma is not selling is the price. 10k overpriced.
Toyota is just too arrogant for its own good; Mexico production and huuuuge price hike. Come back to earth Toyota.
Toyota should have build that second plant in Texas. About 12 years ago Toyota was planning to build a second plant at Tmmtx. It was talked about building the Tacoma there and the Tundra and a second vehicle at the original plant. Build cheap and make big profits happened and the rest is history.
Plenty of Tacomas sitting on the dealer lot here in Downey CA.
They are WAY too expensive.
Everyone forgets that just 3-5 years ago, one could buy a new Porsche for what a mid-tier Tacoma is priced at.
Toyota has really screwed up with this blatant price gouging.
The tundra not selling because there engines are seizing up on the new generation Toyota should have engine options like Chevy has on the Silverado.
Suppliers are not the real issue here, do more research. There are 200 Tacos sitting on the lots where I live. The real problems is they are 4 cylinder turbos, built in Mexico, fetching premium prices.
When will folks admit HyrbidMAX sucks and is a failure on the Tundra and the Taco?
Toyota using their typical scarcity tactics to create the illusion of a supply problem than a demand problem. 😆
Greed.
New platform + New drive train + low wages= low sales.
No V6 & way too expensive! Forget about it
Loyal Toyota guy here. Canceled my order. I’m not paying that much money for a 4 banger. F that!
Hope thousands and thousands of loyalists will do the same. Only then, Toyota will be forced to bring the prices down…way down.
I’m on my 4th Tacoma now. I bought a 22 SR5 and I haven’t been real pleased with the rough and noisy down shifting when I decrease speed. I never experienced it with the other Tacomas.
Also my 22 is nothing but plastic inside and out. Lower quality materials used than my other Tacomas.
I definitely won’t be buying a 4th gen Tacoma.
Prices are rampant. Makes sense.
I rented a new TRD Off-road for a week. Absolutely not worth it.
And also waiting for the Stout!
Nissan Frontier is the new Tacoma 🙂
Does this give indication of what to expect from new 4Runner sales?
Prescient observation. Sticker shock will be their issue, period! 4-cylinders/Made in Mexico/Turbo and these other esoteric issues are lost on the bulk of non-enthusiast SUV buyers. Heck, it basically replaced the 90's minivan for many households.
You were also only about 20 miles or so away from the storage yard they keep the Tacomas at when they come across the border... it was wild to see hundreds of Tacomas there just before March '20 and at times there were only a couple dozen and sometimes no Tacomas in that lot that holds thousands of vehicles.
high price from the factory + dealer mark ups+ its a 4cly
I don’t think the new tacoma will sell like the old one
Bullcrap! Toyota is trying to create a shortage so they can justify their ridiculous prices.
This is a good point
They problem is that they are hugely overpriced especially when you take into account the significantly cheaper labor in Mexico. No one wants to pay $45k for an SR5 with a package or 2.
Nah, it’s not production issues. It’s because the average Tacoma on the lot is $50k. This is before the hybrid variant is available. People don’t want to spend that much on mid-size truck.
Called the allocation model. They are literally forcing customers to look at other brands. I left stealantis because of their nefarious bullshit and went directly over to Toyota. Looking for a Trd pro. Either a Tacoma or a 4 runner and can’t find it either and if you actually look nationwide, you can’t find one without a markup. So I went to ford. Cannot find a ranger raptor without a $9000 to $30,000 mark up. So now, the only vehicle I’m looking at is a Colorado ZR2. That’s the buyer experience. The only thing I’m contemplating now is whether to get the bison package or not.
Buy a last gen v6
@@MarkHoover-dv7mf that’s definitely an option. However, the dealership strategy right now is to hang onto those to see who wants those versus the new ones that come in and then price them accordingly. So another words, Those prices are not moving for a bit

Didn’t get the Pro because they are too over priced. I would never consider the new ones.
These kinds of inventory issues are very common during a model changeover.
It would be odd if there weren't inventory issues during a redesign
Bought a new Off-road Tacoma in 2018 for $33K. There’s no way I’d purchase a 2024 for $45K+ that’s arguably worse in every way
It’s just too over priced with dealers greed and Toyota ain’t doing anything about it.
Ah, it’s stupidly expensive and who the F wants to spend $65k for a Tacoma TRD Pro or even $50k+ for the standard trim.
UAW helped scare Toyota out of the US after seeing what happened with the domestics. UAW is on the record saying they are going after every automaker now.

3 REAL reasons Tacomas are not selling...PRICE PRICE and PRICE.
Don’t forget reason number 4.

Price
I just bought a 24 offroad manual in Canada. It's about 3-4k more then last years offroad. I think so far it's a way better truck then my 18 Pro. Now a 23 Pro wa 64k and a 24 is 82k not sure if the 18k jump is worth it. But I think on lower models the price difference isn't a heck of a lot. The panel gaps are much nicer then my 3rd gen. Interest rates are a big factor I think. If my 18 wasn't paid for I don't think I would have traded it in. Since I had a large down payment it doesn't seem to bad. Love the Toyota news Kirk..
man i was in the market for a new truck, wanted a tacoma but they asked waaay too much for such a unreliable small and feauture empty new truck. so i opted for a older used fullsize truck.
Sounds like one solution would be to pay the workers more so they don’t leave.
Build the wall!
The nissan frontier will continue wiping the floor with previously loyal taco owners.
You said they have a supply issue at the tacos factory but my 3 local dealership have each 40 tacomas on stock here in long island. I believe the problem is high interest rates, very high msrp, poor economy and also if you remember buyers got really screwed during the pandemic. The only solution is if feds lower interest rate by alot and if dealership have massive discounts which they already have.
Cause you can get a decently equipped Tundra for the same price of a Taco TRD off road premium (minus a few luxuries).
Might as well just get the bigger one with bigger power.
The dollar no longer goes far in day to day expenses, I was in a position of choosing between gas, food, or utilities without using credit. Inflation is really bad and the privileged don’t care and won’t care.
But that’s not why it’s not selling tho, there’s just a bunch of production constraints
Toyota Tacoma prices are too high plus production moving to Mexico will sink Toyota Corporation!!!😢

Too bad they don’t show individual states. Hawai’i is selling them rather more quickly than other states.
I had planned on buying my first Toyota, the Tacoma, but their pricing and engine choice ended that.
