This is pretty cool. My family is even bigger than this. When I was little my great grandma was in the news paper in Milwaukee at THAT time (in like 1985ish) she had 99 Grandkids and 87 great grand kids and she also had 10 siblings. lol

Imagine being this woman's parents. They had 1 kid. Imagine being able to tell them, "Yes, you will only have 1 kid, but you will have 100 great-great-grandchildren."

Fun fact: my grandma had 14 children and over 100 grandchildren (who knows how many great-grandchildren lol). It’s weird because since my dad is the youngest (at 50) I have a few cousins that are older than my mom. My oldest uncle is 2 weeks younger than my dad. I think my oldest uncle is 78 (yes my grandma had my dad when she was almost 50).

This is basically my extended family. Christmas at her tiny retirement home was off the hook. Bodies to every wall. Kids under every table. And GreatGrandmama the matriarch in her big green plush chair in the middle of the hoarde just being totally overwhelmed by it all. 😂❤️
I know a old lady who has 13 kids 35 grandkids and 51 great grandkids! I’m one of them great grandkids!

my great grandma only had one child (my grandma) but my grandma had 9 kids, and now my grandma is the grandmother to 68 grandchildren (i love my big family)
and because we all live in the same small town, there are family members in the same classes as each other (we are all really close and i love our big family)

Aw this reminds me of my ex mother in law that started out as an only child but had 6 kids and 20 grandkids and at least 5 great grandkids now and she's only in her 70s.

I have never met my great grandparents my whole life, they just lived too far away and we just couldn’t get to them in time. My great grandpa died a long time ago and my great grandma died four years ago. I wish I could meet them

@ChrisS • The first couple was married before WWII. No TV, only radio and the movies. With fewer distractions from and in the bedroom, 11 children is not a surprise.
What is a surprise is being able to give birth to 11 healthy children. Even pre-WW II, infant mortality & death in childbirth were not uncommon.

Another factor you need to consider is the lack of a social safety net. Children were your guarantors of someone to care for you in your old age. Just like on farms, children were extra work hands.

Irish south side of Chicago catholic descendant here. Mom was 13 of 14 siblings. My Grandma passed in 2009 but she would have been 100 this year.
