Fab I learnt so much in 15 minutes flat .Cant wait to apply this knowledge to a few songs and learn about triads in other keys.
You just gave me. Best all-purpose tool in my tools box. Can't wait to see the rest.
So glad it was helpful!
Triads was what made me believe that I could do this. Love your videos man, wish you uploaded more frequently!
I've been playing guitar for decades and I always learn something about new and interesting chord voicings in these videos!
This is an eye and ear opening lesson! I've been dancing around this all my life without understanding what I was doing until now! I'm excited about what you have opened up for me! Thank you so much!
That's great to hear!
Very helpful. I just started working on triads. Can’t wait for more.
This is simply brilliant. As a long-time acoustic player and a relative newbie to electric, I realise that playing fewer notes at once is where it's at. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Your teaching is amazing! I wish you were around when I was learning to play the first time. You make the most complex things so much easier. God bless you and keep doing what you're doing!!!!
So glad to hear that!
Awesome can’t wait for the next one
I so love this concept ... so easy and simple but so effective ... God Is So Good Amen
D chord played on 5th open 4th fret string 4 th and 2nd string on 3rd fret . But it is marked x 5 th string…
When I learned triads and how to use them, it changed everything for me as a guitar player. And I still like listening to new approaches on how to use them. Great video!
That's great!
Nice tutorial. "Good thing i wore my towel today"😅
CJ, this lesson is a gem for me. I’m 71 and many of the triad lessons have music theory tied to them, and it’s very confusing to me. You make it super simple because I have learned open chord shapes by memory, so with your triad lesson, I can do the same. I memorize positions rather than notes on each string if that makes sense. I look forward to discovering the triads in each key. Thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that it's helping! Keep me posted on how your progressing. Thank you
Praise God for you and simply pointing this out
Really enjoying your videos and learning a lot. Thanks!
Man you are such a blessing! I am trying to learn electric guitar for our team! Been playing Acoustic and Bass for a long time BUT gotta confess that I find the electric guitar difficult! You have opened my eyes! THANK YOU 🙏
Really glad to hear that it's helping you through the difficultly!
Shalom and thank you so so much. Your "Dont Give Up!" channel had helped me, and please continue to keep up the good work
Thank you! That's so great to hear!
Brother, It is obvious from what you say around 17:40 ff - "boring" etc that you have a pastor's heart with what you do. I haven't seen much of that in the electric guitar/lead guitar tutorials. Please be encouraged and please continue. This was a great video. God Bless. Subscribed and bell'd
"playing those 4 note triads" lol that got me. I very much appreciate you saying we need to have the courage to be bored. Everyone on stage should have that say courage if we are truly there to serve and not be served. Great video, bro! looking forward to the position 2 vid.
Thanks Dave! So great to connect with you today! Looking forward to staying in touch.
@@DontGiveUp-qn8he Absolutely!
CJ, Ive been trying to wrap my head around triads for awhile. I even took a course with Charl on worship guitar. Your teachings are awesome and I appreciate it so much. May God bless you.
So glad it's been helpful! Charl is a fantastic teacher with a lot of great content. I'm glad we have so many different kinds of teachers. We need all of them and more!
Last time I played on a Sunday morning. The melody was played mostly from the piano. So on the chorus I just hung on one chord. The bass was playing the changes, the piano the melody and I just kind of cross picked one chord the whole time, It sounded amazing. The ringing notes really added to the song. Simple supports the song,
Yessir!
Really neat! Thanks so much!
man I just found your channel through this video! I will watch all your next videos! you're amazing! you're funny and this video was just incredible! I had a lot of fun with you there! many thanks!! god bless you!!
Welcome! That's great to hear!
Cute little lesson. I had fun with it.
Thanks for your video…gives me hope in learning the guitar and worship music.
Thanks Jim!
Wow this is great thanks am learning God bless you.
Hey CJ!
This was fantastic! Thank you for giving us this wonderful technique which is so easy and yet so beautiful! This is going to help so much. I just stumbled across your channel today and I immediately subscribed when I watched this lesson. Thanks a lot and please keep those great lessons coming!
Will do! Thank you
I definitely needed these "boring" chords 😂 I'm so hype to try it out!
Glory to God! This is absolutely phenomenal content and exactly what I needed. God has really been having me focus on learning triads for worship and His timing is incredible as this video and series is coming out at the best possible time! Keep this content up CJ!
Agreed!
That's so great to hear!
🤣😂🤣😂
Oh yeah! Thank you so much. Love from France! God bless.
Enjoy!
praise God, i have an idea about major G chord but it open my eyes and first time to use triad and you made it simple, i cant wait for the remaining keys, thank you. all Glory to God
You're welcome!
Hey man, I really like these voicings. Thanks!
Thx from France 🇫🇷 ! Keep going your fantastics videos 🎉🎉
Thank you, more to come!
Not a particularly religious guy but thinking of joining just play in the worship band. Good lesson.
Its true that simple parts make for the best grooves. Plus it allows the reverb and delay to fill the space more.
This was amazing and simple. IMO the best practical teaching in worship guitar on the net. I cannot wait for the next lesson. Could you show us the Am in this shape area then I could use this on basically everything. Thank You for showing us your wisdom. God Bless
Thank you! And yes, I'll be dumping a bunch of ii chord options on everyone really soon!
Great lesson. I nesrly switched off as i figured I knew the shapes already, but i completely forgot I could use the 1 shape for the 6 chord, and I like the trick with the open G string for the 5 chord. Please hurry and release more!
More to come!
Amazing! 🎉
Thank you!
great video, thanks and God bless cj🙏
God Bless!!
Good stuff. Have to try this without a backing track...
simply great - thank you very much / greetings from germany
So glad it's been helpful!
Great lesson 😎🎶
That tele is sick 😍
It's been a solid, reliable guitar over the years. I Really enjoy it!
Sounds like U2 "with or without you" when the bass is added.
I’m playing How Great Thou Art in G Sunday. I don’t have any lines so I’m totally going to use this!!!!
Right on!
Awesome so nice ,thank you
You're welcome!
This is a great concept if bored then I suggest you loop it and play the upper registery just saying
Triads, triads, simple but beautiful, jazz and rock use them all them time, to lead into a solo off the chord and to bring back after turn around. Kinda like arpeggios but even easier to use? Thanks can't wait for prt. 2
That’s right! And Part II is already posted!
That was great!!!!!!!!!
!!!!
Fantastic job
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much
You are welcome!
That's also use on the Paul McCartney song listen to what the man said
Wowww this is just perfect and simplified..So how do we play the 5 chord triad if the key is not on an open string ?😰
We’ll explore that in upcoming videos. We have quite a few options depending what open strings we can use. Glad you liked it!
Capo!
Can you recommend some picking patterns to play with triads? I am trying to incorporate the triads into finger picking and was looking for some patterns.
For me, the picking pattern is mostly dependent on the song I'm playing. I'm considering quite a few things like rhythmic patterns, the melody, and where the song is dynamically. So, honestly I think as long as you're considering these things, you can't go wrong. Hope that helps!
Thanks! Great videos!
Thanks!!!❤❤
Awesome! That's what every woship guitarist needs! Please more content like this.
More to come!
@@DontGiveUp-qn8he Yes keep on with the content, brother in Christ.
Gest found your channel. Thanks this is great
Welcome!
Very helpful lesson i wish to know in a rhytmic situation if this method can be apply
Of course dont arpeggiate the triad and strum it over the backing.
Yes! For the sake of simplicity I'm only focusing on learning the chord shapes. I'd like to discuss rhythmic options in future videos.
wow!
All Glory to God brother! Great tutorial!
Thanks for watching!
I love you, man!!!😂
If you play a G triad over an Em and then over a G chord, your bass player will love you!
I've really enjoyed your channel as a true beginner that wants to be part of the mix at church ASAP. We have a very small team and no electrics yet. I think this background style would fit me as a beginner and also would be a good starting zone for people who aren't fans of electrics.
How would you approach a worship leader with the idea of purposefully playing background triad fills? Is it going to be difficult if the lead is a piano?
That's a great question. If your piano player is playing a lot of melodic lines with their right hand, I would utilize the triads to play rhythmic patterns and not necessarily melodies. If the piano player is playing simple rhythmic patterns with chords, I think you'd have more room to use the triads to create melodic lines. Hope that helps
What model of fender tele is that?
Nice. Very Pink Floyd.
- Please...........This is catching on....Can you play High in Low Places by Beach Weather?
Playing that G shape over E makes it an Em7 chord.
Okay, so I'm not a highly skilled guitarist by any stretch. I love the triads. I trying to understand the "C" shape that you show. The notes in that shapes you are using are if I'm correct: Don the 4th fret B string, then C and G. I learned it with the index finger on the 3 fret for the G then the C and E on the 5th frets. How does your triad with a D become a C triad? Thank you. My apologies for a dumb question if I'm not seeing the obvious.
This is a great question! I'll address deeper in future videos. But basically I'm adding some flavor to the IV chord, which in this case is the 9. That D note added to a C Major gives the IV chord more of a modern sound and helps connect the chord to the key for some tonal consistency. And I just like the sound.
thanks for the email. this is a good video.
Where is the E note for Em? The Cmaj is a sus2.
Another way.. The top 3 open strings are Em and can play the other G chords on bottom 3 strings.
CJ what Church do you go to? Can I see you play?
I think your on screen note at 4:17 is accidentally wrong. It says 4th instead of 6th. 😊
Yeah, I caught that after posting. I need a QC team. haha
I can see the full bar G chord, but what full e minor chord looks like to use these 3 notes...
I explain a little of why I'm using these notes in the next two videos: ruclips.net/video/MflGt8MdvX4/видео.html
What would the key of C look like then?
Go Tigers 🐅
Isn’t the C chord Csus2 ?
It could be called a few different things in a chart. The Csus2 is one way of involving the 2 or 9. The main point isn't that the sus2 is the best option, but that the IV position often uses the 2 or 9 and this is one simple way to incorporate that.
The shape on the screen isn’t matching up with what you are showing in the fret board
👍
At 4:27, did you mean 1 and 6?
Yes, I need a QC team. haha
hahah what is a "Rut"? 1 Major, 6 minor 7, C Sus 2 and D add 4 :)
haha I've been catching a lot of flack for that. And yes, those are the target extensions most of the time: ruclips.net/video/Du0YwudnBtU/видео.html
What is a “rut”
😅
Your C chord triad can also be a G sus4
In the key of G shapes, yes. That C major w the 9 in it is also a Gsus4. Very handy
This is excellent content! I’ll be sending this to my beginner/amatuer electric players who volunteer on the team.
I've gotta ask, where are you from? The way you pronounce "root" had me chuckle every time. I'm sure you'd also laugh at how I as a southerner pronounce it!
That's funny, I hadn't thought about it. I'm def a northerner. haha
@@DontGiveUp-qn8he love it! I’ll be using this technique on Sunday. We had our mid-week practice cancelled due to the Holiday so I’ll be playing it safe and “boring” this week.
T H A N K. U ❤
You're very welcome!
What's worship music?
The channel is about teaching the most common musical characteristics of the songs within the CCLI top 50. "Worship Music" is this context is referring to the music we use for congregational worship songs.
Now use your thumb on a low g now same area of neck play b minor triad on highest three strings... ooooo gmaj 7
Why do you have to say 'whats up' when there is nothing wrong
they sound ok but obviously are not the correct chords. As a C chord = CEG, and Em chord = EGB, G chord = GBD. It's like playing power chords all the time, it won't sound wrong but is that something desirable? It's limitting.
The chords are altered to add the commonly used 2nd note in the IV chord and b7th note in the vi chord.
Correct doesn’t always allow creativity. Adds flavor and support to others
@@GinjahG I hear you, and respect your point of view which is not the same as mine in this case. After all it's a world of dichotomies and we need to be open. So I'm open. Thanks
I think what was demonstrated here opens more beautiful opportunities. I plan to add this approach in worship songs tomorrow. Gonna do this a lot to add to my toolbox. The E major chord was not discussed....
Beautiful voicing alternatives. Praise the Lord!
That's the beauty of it though. Let rhythm players do their job and be heard in the mix while electric adds flavor and the magic sparkle.
Shell chords would be more musical.
The name of the chords are wrong.
Doesn't make sense. They are not the notes for a Cmajor triad.
I explain a little of why I'm using these notes in the next two videos: ruclips.net/video/MflGt8MdvX4/видео.html
What in the world is a ruuit? Oh... a ROOT.
Your c chord has a d note on the B string , yet c major does not have a d note in it..?..?? Your not making it follow the simple chord shapes of 1st 3rd and 5 for a major and 1st flat 3rd and 5th for a minor chord. Your muddying the water by not following the simple steps
It works because, in the picking pattern he uses for each triad, he ends with a note that is in the underlying chord. The out of chord note provides tension, and the ending note resolves that tension and brings you home to the chord. This is the same thing that happens when you play a solo using a greater number of notes within the key. It provides a more interesting (emotional) sound in the mix. There are no,rules, only guidelines. 😊
If you’re just technical…. you’ll miss the point. Making music 😅
Nobody plays 1-3-5 for every chord. That’s not the “sound”
A Tele with humbuckers and a bigsby is sacrilege. Completely against nature.
It's a Fender too. How unnatural is that. In fact, imagine a world without Fenders.
You talk to much and yet don’t explain anything clearly.
Respectfully, born again believers in congregation are there to worship the Father and the Lord Jesus. Also to fellowship with the brethren. We are not there to appease (serve) the crowd when we are playing our instruments, that is what secular bands do.
Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, SERVE one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
