Through all the fruitless RUclips searches I find this. The absolute best base line system & theory I have ever witnessed. Huge aha moment! Please keep building on this and thank you for doing. I believe there is a real need for your gift of teaching and encouraging others.
I agree 100%. The learning is enhanced by your gentle spirit and encouragement. You are officially my favorite subscribe of the year so far. Thank you!
I seldom comment on anything I have spent years searching you tube for Christian music for worship guitar . The way you do this is well done there is such a need for this type of instruction for Christian praise music. I love playing the guitar and have been forced to look to secular resources to learn . Please keep posting this kind of instruction.
DUDE! I'm a rock/metal guy that has been trying to fit in with my worship band for a while now, and these are the kinds of tricks that are so outside of my vocabulary I don't even think about it but I can tell it's missing. This will immediately go into my toolbox. Very grateful for the lesson here, thanks!
I like these worship lessions because it doesnt just teach us how to play like the recording... it helps to be creative in your own way and carve your own path for worship. Praise God
I think what was really good about this format was you explained an idea, you demonstrated it in two keys over a relatable backing track, then gave a quick back track for a listener to try by ourselves. Good format choice.
I must tell you I started today trying to play. Watching your videos. I always have trouble with my strumming hand. Today, for the first time, I could understand what you were doing, really. You're an awesome teacher. I played along with you. Thank you No one out there actually teaches in a way that beginners could understand. Simplicity your way of teaching. Over and over going thu u tube to find someone like you. 😊 God Bless you
Coming from a rock background, and starting at church with acoustic guitar, it’s very easy for me to “devolve” into just playing the open chords of a song when I’m on electric. Your tips helped me immensely with not only how to find octaves and 5ths depending on the dynamics of the song, but also the power that these “lame” lead lines have when played in context. I saw you only have 2 vids posted so far - I truly hope that number keeps growing! Thanks for the effort and quality you put into this lesson, we all appreciate it 🙏🏻
This is just what I needed at the right time. Been stuck for years trying to understand the theory or even scales so I can just venture up the neck. I Never really was secure in my ability till seeing your channel. (Being Self taught) This provides me a foundation for moving forward and being heard in the band and cut through so I can make a difference and add to the band's sound to Glorify God! Thanks man!
What a blessing! I’ve been playing in my worship band since I was about 15. Self taught but every time I tried to learn any theory, it felt overwhelming. This…this is fantastic!! In a wonderful format that I understand and in that “here now you try” style that allows me to retain and apply! Please, please keep making this content! It’s a wonderful blessing to me and others I’m sure! ❤
This has been a technique I learned listening to Dan Huff during his early sessions in CCM, country produced albums. You can hear this technique on some of early Taylor Swift, Faith Hill songs, etc. So when the worship style shifted from Integrity Music oriented to Hillsongs, Paul Baloche era, i have been utilizing this technique way back until now in our church. You can even double it up like a polychord especially if there is only one guitarist on the worship band. I called this myself technique ostinato chording because a certain notes is repeated over and no matter where the chord goes. Any church guitarist should utilize this technique because it create good spacing on the overall chord movements of a song especially on worship. Another good thing of this technique it stabilize the song's tonality. There are many advantages. This is a great content. Less is more.
This is great teaching dude. 18 years into playing, I've always been at the stage where I kinda get the basics of theory, but this is one of the few times it's clicked for me on how to apply it beyond knowing the 1-4-5-6 progression. Easiest sub of my life. Keep it up!
Thank you, these are the nuggets that players need to advance their guitar playing or the way we hear and view music. Nice job, keep up Gods work in you, “Don’t Give Up”.
This is so useful. Our Worship pastor gave us a song with no lead sheets nor chord charts and I was able to use this method to fill in and round out the sound of the song. Really cool tool, love your videos
I usually don't make it through an hour+ long video, but this was great! Very insightful and love the way you are explaining it, including time for practicing with the song. Will start incorporating this into my playing. Thanks!
Thank you so so much! Please keep making videos to help guys like me that don’t have time to figure this all out…but I still want to be involved in worship
Last year I was looking for a video like this. I play lead guitar in a small church and I just need something simple to add to the music that isn't droning chords. THANK YOU!!!! this is exactly what I was looking for. I am also liking your triad videos!! You're a blessing sir!
THIS is an amazing lesson. I use a lot of pads with shell voicing but was at a loss to change it up for the bridge sections, enter the two note hack! I switch off the slow attack and go into this. Two notes twinkle above it all! So Mozart-ish! God bless, keep sharing your knowledge, much appreciated ❤
Hey buddy, this was a wonderful lesson! I have been playing for many years, I am an advanced player regarding rock and blues, scales, modes, and more, but even with all I know this was hugely helpful to me, and I will absolutely use this info to play in church. Thank you so much for your video, I hope you make more!
That's encouraging to hear! Even though the channel is focused on newer musicians, it's good to know it still resonate with more experienced players. Thank you!
I have just arrived in this space of 3rds and 5ths on the Bass E string and you introduce the 5ths on the High E string which melts into my KNOWLEDGE of the Fret board very nicely. What a Building Block. Thank you for being a part of what the Scriptures instruct us to be and found in....... Psalms 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; PLAY SKILFULLY with a LOUD NOISE. AMEN YASHUA MESSIAS IS COME IN THE FLESH THE MESSIAS THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD ❤
Just stumbled across this video somehow and this is a GAME CHANGER! Really helped this old rocker to expand what I’m playing!. Thank you so much and you have a new subscriber!!!!
Mr Giveup, (or can I call you Don't?), or is that even your real name? You are really onto something with these videos! I've been playing for 50+ years and I'm getting alot out of these... Amazing how sometimes the simplest things can escape our attention... Please keep it up! I'll be watching!!?
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have learned more in this video than I have in the past thirty years. God bless you and keep doing what you are doing. Thank you so much!❤
Man I don't come from a worship music background, but your lessons are spot on, these simple tricks sound absolutely EPIC and come very handy for anyone trying to write their own music as well. Your super positive vibes just earned you a new subscriber. Don't give up!
I was literally on the verge of giving up on working towards being a lead player in my church's worship team when I found this video. Great content! Hugely helpful! Much appreciated!
I think it was HE 's will that this video came into my recommendation .good lord . Thank you for teaching me these .this is one my best 1 hr spent. 😮 Now i can really add value to worship rather than just play chord . I wish i found u way way sooner

I’ve spent years learning to play the changes and wrongfully tried to apply that here not paying attention that keeping it simple and sparse with progression going on that staying there gives the sound the flight that I want. Again thanks so much and really appreciate your work and ability to explain in simple terms. What a blessing it is!
Wow.. just amazing! Godbless you sir! I’ve been struggling with playing electric guitar, you can say I’m at a guitar’s block lol. But this video you made gave me inspiration to give it a try again. Thanks so much!
You are an incredible Teacher. Thank you. That helped a lot. I struggled with e guitar, coming from acoustic and leading worship, I also wanted to play in the background sometimes. Never new what exactly to play. That Is a very good base to build on. Thanks a lot. You definitely where able to give value through this lesson.
Thanks Brother! I transitioned from bass to electric guitar two years ago, and have been finding my way through the darkness. I loved the theory part at the end! Great explanation. I’ve been playing triads and triad inversions mostly so this will definitely give me some more tricks up my sleeve. It will help me write original songs that have that modern worship sound. I owe you a Jamba Juice
Hands down the best explanation I have ever seen, heard or been taught! Seriously keep expanding so good! And most importantly love how you brought it all back to being able to teach someone else on your worship team which is what it’s all about building relationships and growing together following Jesus! So glad I found your channel awesome work!
That is just so cool and so well taught. It's these little guitar things that make so much difference and thank you for not going in to the music theory. A thousand blessings on you!
This is great, I come from a metal background so pkaying in a worship group has been pretty awkward, breaking paradigms is hard. I've learned so much from this video, this made so many things make sense. Please keep making these videos.
Very helpful thank you. Playing electric guitar next week for the first time and despite being an experienced musician I was a bit stuck for ideas and feeling a bit nervous. Much happier now 👍👍👍
Sometimes... just sometimes, the RUclips algorithm actually works and fetches videos with content worth watching and applying. Thanks for a great video! 👍
This was a fantastic video. Super helpful for someone coming from acoustic and trying to figure out where to start on an electric. I've been doing something similar using the CAGE system on high strings, but without knowing the patterns or why it works. I'll be sharing this with our worship team.
WOW!!! Thank you so much for this video! I am an OK guitarist helping out my worship team at church. We lost a 3 guitarists recently AND they were all really good!!! I am learning and progressing. This video really helped give me some cool sounding options.
This was very helpful, thank you so much, especially for the first song. This was a lot of fun and I will watch it again to get better with the chords. Thank you again.
Absolutely grateful for this video. It's helped me understand music a lot more. Your format and explanation made it really easy to follow and grasp the idea. Really looking forward to a follow up video and more guitar concepts like this to further improve. Thank you!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome lesson! Just tried this on What He’s Done and it sounds fantastic. Gives an additional rhythm guitar tool to keep the parts from all sounding the same. Cuts through much better than full chords. Thank you for your time and effort in sharing this lesson. My worship leader will surely appreciate it!😂
Excellent lesson this is how all teachers should teach, the theory and the why behind it not just "put your finger on this fret on this string and put this finger on that string and this fret " we all should know the reasons why and what works and why it works, when the worship team switches Keys you can improvise much quicker and better, you because you get to know the fretboard better by explaining this way
waowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww GOD bless you you make music theory easy and easy to playyyyyyyyyy just wow. and love the smile and joy on your face. and thanks so much
Excellent lesson. I just subs ribed. Not only the what, which is immediately helpful, but the how and most importantly the WHY! Please keep the videos coming and I will keep watching and learning. Thank from a 60 year old guy trying to work with a group our younger players
Thank you! That's right! The WHY is ultimately what this whole channel is about. If we just ask HOW these guitarists are playing what they're playing, we'll only be able to COPY their ideas. But if we can learn to ask WHY, we'll eventually be able to CREATE similar things that better fit our band.
Well THANK YOU for such a great explanation conceptually and practically. On the music theory side let me compliment you. I have an extensive background in traditional church music and I can say that that this type of analysis and application is the norm. An organist/choir director brings this type of context to all of the prep a good traditional music program does. So big kudos to you. The last person to bring tools like this to us is Paul Baloche so you are in good company. On the worship musician to worship musician side let me say that your heart is clearly communicated. I experienced an immediate kinship and I am looking forward to more. I could subscribe to theology and music tech channels all day but in almost every case I do not. I have subscribed to your channel. As an acoustic guitar player, bass player, and singer; I look forward to what you bring to the table next.
Any suggestions for someone who lost the tips of middle and ring fingers on left hand. This happened almost a year ago. Please don't say just play left hand. I may punch the next person that says that. Just kidding. Been playing for 50 years right handed.
@@GeorgeScott-s4o Oh no, so sorry to hear that. I'm a firm believer that smart players can do more with one or two notes than an inexperienced player could with all the notes/fingers at their disposal, especially in modern worship. I saw John Mayer soloing a while ago and he decided he was going to only use his first finger and play one note at a time. It was melodic and tasteful and quite inspiring. Between your first and fourth finger, I think you still have lots of options and will add a lot to whatever band you're in. Honestly, many of the guitar parts you hear on these worship albums, the electric player is only playing one or two notes and then adding tons of reverb/delay. Thanks for question, hope that helps a little. Don't Give Up!!
Through all the fruitless RUclips searches I find this. The absolute best base line system & theory I have ever witnessed. Huge aha moment! Please keep building on this and thank you for doing. I believe there is a real need for your gift of teaching and encouraging others.

Hey brother, Please keep up these videos. You really have a gift for teaching this stuff. thank you and God bless.

This was a fantastic video. Super helpful for someone coming from acoustic and trying to figure out where to start on an electric. I've been doing something similar using the CAGE system on high strings, but without knowing the patterns or why it works. I'll be sharing this with our worship team.
The CAGE system is a really helpful approach for sure. I'd love to hear how your team responds to it! Thanks!
So helpful!
Glad to hear it!
WOW!!! Thank you so much for this video! I am an OK guitarist helping out my worship team at church. We lost a 3 guitarists recently AND they were all really good!!! I am learning and progressing. This video really helped give me some cool sounding options.

Awesome lesson! Just tried this on What He’s Done and it sounds fantastic. Gives an additional rhythm guitar tool to keep the parts from all sounding the same. Cuts through much better than full chords. Thank you for your time and effort in sharing this lesson. My worship leader will surely appreciate it!😂
Awesome! Thank you!
@@DontGiveUp-qn8he Thirds lesson in the works? Looking forward to it.
This is incredible! So excited to share this with my worship team
Please do!
Excellent lesson this is how all teachers should teach, the theory and the why behind it not just "put your finger on this fret on this string and put this finger on that string and this fret "
we all should know the reasons why and what works and why it works, when the worship team switches Keys you can improvise much quicker and better, you because you get to know the fretboard better by explaining this way
I think a lot of people need things simplified more than most realize. Thanks!
Best ever worship tutorial love from kenyaa,do more videos😊

@@DontGiveUp-qn8heyou’re the best thank you
Man I've been doing this for years and always felt like I was cheating! Thanks for the validation!
Haha! Plenty of haters out there would like us to think that. Whatever's best for the melody and the song as a whole!
So glad I stumbled into this - God bless you sir
Glad it could help! Thank you!
Exactly what I looking for in a long time. Please keep up the good work and bring in more lessons! :)
Glad it helped! More videos coming soon!
Wow! this is so helpful for me in our worship! thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. God bless you more!

Thank you for the well-taught lesson.. waiting for the next extended lesson :-) God bless you.
Thank you! More to come. But I'll probably keep the next round of videos a little shorter.
Very practical and helpful, looking forward to using these in the future in songs without dedicated electric guitar parts.
Glad it was useful!
love it - do it most weeks and it sounds amazing thanks I learnt some extra bits too.
Great to hear!
This is an awesome lesson! Well-taught. I appreciated you! Keep going! Be blessed!
Thank you! Will do!
One of the most useful things I’ve ever seen. 👍🤘
So glad it was helpful!!
That's very kind, thank you. I'm so glad it connected with you!
Awesome stuff stay blessed
Thank you! You too!
Wow. This is awesome! I'm always looking for way to add something more to my playing. I will definitely use this. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thank you!!!
Please continue with more tips and examples.
You bet!! More videos coming soon!
Thank you so much. I've been playing for forty years plus; you have just pulled me out of a rut! Can we have some more, please 😀
More to come!
Love it! Simple yet effective, the practice bit is a nice touch, subscribed for more future contents!
Awesome, thank you!
