  • Overall, UT has been worth it for me, but for others, it hasn't been. In this video I finally give my complete run-down on the University of Texas. From how challenging the classes are, to my experiences with racism, and whether or not UT cares about its students' mental health, here's things to consider before coming to UT.

    • @LiamNickell
      @LiamNickell 5 лет назад +24

      Jesus Jesus reputation is arbitrary and only really matters to tiger parents that want to brag to their friends about their kid. unless someone wants to be a big shot investment banker on wall street or a politician, the reputation of the college you go to doesn’t matter. the graduate themselves and their knowledge and ability is what matters above all else. the most companies will ever do is look at the academic rankings of colleges in the subjects involved in the job they’re seeking to fill. public vs private can be an issue for the individual looking for the most smooth college experience, but the academic rankings are important for getting an idea of how much resources the college puts towards specific subject areas and roughly how successful their faculty is in researching and teaching that field

    I have a newsflash for all of you. Going to the University of Texas is not an assurance that you will be successful , far from it. UT teaches you how to work and you have to continue that level of commitment and dedication after graduation too. Things don't just happen for you because you went to the University of Texas. For example, if you leave Texas after graduation and move to the northeastern United States, graduating from the University of Texas is not that impressive to people in that part of the country.

  • @sgnMark
    @sgnMark 5 лет назад +12

    Riverside went up almost 300$ on an average one bedroom in the past 5-7 years. Also, what others don't realize is that Austin was rated the number one segregated city in America a couple years back. I feel that racism as a whole is much lower in Austin as the rest of Texas, but the isolationist ways of the different "cultures" in the city tend to cultivate many misconceptions from all parties. Aside from that, just getting in UT is a hassle if you are a transfer, internal and especially external, if you don't have some special situation that sets you apart from the rest. They swat down 4.0 science/engineering/business applicants like mosquitos as of recent. Good luck to everyone who applies. The city itself still has much more to offer than most.

      @911LAMBORGINI 2 года назад +1

      @@jonathans8892 Congratulations! That in itself is a HUGE achievement. Not many people are able to get accepted into McCombs. The very name of the business school will give you priority when you apply for jobs after college. I will tell you right now, it will be no cake walk. You will have to grind your butt off, but you will come out of it a changed person with a completely different perspective of the world. My biggest advise is 1. Take advantage of office hours. DO NOT be afraid to ask questions about topics you're unfamiliar with. They are always willing to help. 2. Network as much as you can as early as you can. Go to career fairs, introduce yourself to different companies starting as a freshman. It will open up doors for internships opportunities and full time roles after college. 3. Find a balance. It is so easy to get caught up in the college if wanting to party, go to 6th street, join Greek life ect, but NEVER forget why you're there, and that is to get a great education, get a degree, and find a great job after college. Nothing wrong building making friends and memories, but find that balance. Don't use all your time partying or all of it stuck in your books studying. I hope this helps.

    I attend UTRGV and let me tell you if you are a student with disablities they make graduation seem impossible. I only been a student for 3 years now and I just entered my sophmore year. Each step I take towards my program in education feels like I am being knocked 10 steps back because they pull out suprise after suprise. Just now I found out I need to retake my TSI Math and Writing because I haven't meet a qualification for my program. When I started school here they just told me to take remedial math and college algebra and I would be TSI cleared as for my TSI writing they told me I was exempt due to my SAT writing score. This is irksome because I thought it was their job to help me progress through my degree and graduate but nope !

If you were to get a 90% in a class, UT wouldn’t consider it a 4.0, but rather like a 3.67.. UNT considers that to be a 4.0. 🤷🏾‍♂️ plus, it’s closer to home for me and I HATE driving. 💀

I only went back sporadically since leaving and last went there more than a year ago and could not wait to get the hell out of the city. There was not a patch of green anywhere. It was a concrete jungle. I wasn’t even there 24 hours, but saw that Austin had become ridiculously liberal.

    I loved watching this because I've felt so many of these emotions before. It's interesting that you made a lot of points that I felt the same way about. It's so easy to feel like an outcast at UT because it's HUGE! Seriously, whenever I walk past classes that I don't normally go to I'm always astounded by how giant the campus is. I also have a hard time meeting new people because I feel like it's just so hard to know who wants to strike up a conversation with you or not. UT Austin even feels so different than the rest of downtown which I always find fascinating

    As a Conservative who is considering UT, I kinda see your point regarding how stressful things are, although stress is caused by different things.
    It seems like a serious of unfortunate dominos fell and what occurred was the far left says one thing, and the conservatives end up reacting a bit much as a response to the far left, then innocent students get even more stressed. It does suck, hopefully politics on both sides dial down on campuses because it’s unhealthy.
    Otherwise, thank you for giving me a general idea of Austin, TX. I am Asian so I guess it might be a slight change from the NorthEast where I currently am situated in.

    My son was accepted to both Mays and McCombs. We thought that he would obviously choose McCombs due to its higher ranking and the relative greater diversity at UT as he is a black. To our surprise however he’s really enjoyed his visits to A&M, including the sense of community they promote as Aggies. He’s likely still gonna end up at McCombs due to the ranking of that program, but we were surprised that he’d find a greater comfort level, at least initially, at a Uber-conservative school like A&M.

    Don't know if you're still open to answering questions, but I have quite a few. Tbh I never expected to get accepted into ut but I did, for chemical engineering, my major of choice. However, I've been mentally preparing myself all this time to go to A&M, (because I didn't expect to get accepted) and all of a sudden I'm unsure about where to go to college with this sudden acceptance. I know more people at A&M, have more friends there, and I know very little people at UT. So I'm very torn. Should I take a risk and go into a completely new environment (because engineering there is prestigious ) or should I fall back on comfort and do engineering at A&M? I'm just really scared if I'll make a dumb decision because I chased after the academics. If you have any advice that'd mean the world to me, I'm so stress right now because I don't know what to do

I’m lining up the future so obviously I’ll have school paid for as well as a stipend for housing as well as no debt and around 30,000 saved up. Do you think (assuming I’m smart) that UT would be a good school for me? I’m looking for schools in Texas because my sister lives there (in Houston). Heard that MS SCM at UTD is top 5 in the US.
    I’ll apply as an international student. Been working in export/import related job. And still saving up maybe for a few years.

    “Do people discriminate asians?”
    “How’s cost of living/month?”

      Though I’m not fully asian (half black/half asian) coming from familial experiences, in Houston, Asians aren’t really discriminated against. There’s a HUGE Asian population in the Houston area, and their surrounding cities or towns. Though I’m not entirely sure about Austin. The majority of Austin is white, and I heard some lack of diversity, but not actual discrimination

    Lots of racism at ut when I studied film (rtf) there. There were so many epic battles and wars with the young republicans. Once, a fellow student political activist vomited up his texas independence cake at the young republican rally because of their racist "hunt a mexican" game and created a storm from that act. Too little diversity, and a hateful campus vibe somewhat akin to the hate at virginia tech & columbine seethes through the beautiful ut campus and this definitely creates mental health issues for the hyper sensitive types. That's why Ricky Williams and others felt horrible while there. In fact I remember I saw Ricky Williams once before my class started, he must have noticed that I was something other than white (I'm Chicano), and he smiled as if recognizing both our struggles. If you're going to ut, be ready to either stand your ground in racist settings with racist students, teacher aides, and even professors, or just do what you have to-to maintain your sanity. Peace!

      The USA is a historically white country. It was over 90% until the 1960s.. What does "too little diversity" even mean? How about accepting and judging people based off of their character, rather than skin color. Your way of thinking is the exact opposite of what MLK preached.

      polifatts I was mad reading this at first, but yeah, please move. We don’t need you here :)
      You can’t make an argument about “accepting and judging people based off their character” then immediately refute your claim by making an audacious statement.
      Also, you really need to do research. There are more native minorities in those countries than you think. I know from experience. Nice to know who the ignorant racist is. You’re the typical stereotype.

    • @SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath
      @SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath 4 года назад +1

      @@BringBackCyParkVendingMachines There are literally no native minorities in the countries I mentioned. Europe was 100% white up until the past century when mass immigration started. I am not racist at all. Just a realist. I see the racial tension and hatred happening in "melting pot" countries like America. Who wants that? I believe every race should have their own homeland to carry out the destiny that is most ideal for them. Africa for Africans, Europe for Europeans, Asia for Asians.. On a global scale, whites are the minorities. They make up only about 10% of the world population. Why is it only white countries that are forced to have "diversity?" There is a clear agenda going on.

    I am a high school senior right now but I’m honestly in a state where Im super lost and don’t know what to do. I’m trying to pursue two majors (General Psychology and Drama/Theatre) which I don’t even know if that’s the right choice. I’d like to go to KD Conservatory in Dallas for an acting program and a Tarrant County College to have an associates degree that could help me get a higher paying job to at least try to afford UT Austin after my two years. I’m not sure if I’m even making the right decision on doing that- transferring from a community and acting college to UT Austin. My rank in high school from my 1st semester as a junior was top 4-5% (didn’t change in the second semester due to COVID) so for now I could get an automatic acceptance to UT but could my rank change by the end of my Senior year??? Because if that’s the case I’m 100% sure that I’ll be knocked out of that top 5% so quickly and easily even when I hear that it’s harder to change your gpa as a senior and I haven’t even taken my SAT yet and I know I’m going to do really bad at it because when it comes to the SAT I’m suddenly the worst test taker and the practice tests would have low scores so I’m freaking out. Oh wow my grammar is really bad... But listening to you about being honest about the costs, lack of diversity, and safety is actually kinda comforting to hear before witnessing it myself (If I do get accepted) and I’ve been binge watching some of your UT videos and I’m really grateful for them! I’ll keep watching more to help me out bc as a senior I’m SUPER behind...

    its not that Austin is very white, its just very segregated. basically east of i-35 and parts of north central austin (and other areas i cant remember) are where most of the minorities live
