Hi, I got one of these on eBay last year for £18 having reignited my interest in RC cars after many years away from the hobby- Best and only good thing Covid has done for me lol, knew nothing about them apart from seeing a few you tube vids that recommending them. The charger worked fine from what I could see. I came across a video a few weeks after purchasing and it was a guy talking about the fake chargers and how to tell if it was genuine. They both looked pretty much identical but some things to notice were inside the charger and he had a fake and genuine one side by side( internal power supply version). Wiring on fake was thinner gauge and there wasn’t a surge protection circuit (I think he said) on the fake one. The power brick on real one was whole length of the unit but fake was only a third of size. He showed the hologram seal on back of real one fake doesn’t have one(he said) packaging on so called fakes is black and box is white on real ones. I’m not dissing them because I had one that I took to be fake, I got £10 refund off seller from China when I said I thought it was a fake product, they were quiet good after my second reply when they offered me £6 initially then offered me £10 and could keep charger. I ordered one same off Amazon figuring they wouldn’t sell fake ones and if it was I could get a full refund but it came and it was in a white box this time, cost me £35. It looked virtually the same, just felt a bit better in the hand. Only thing I noticed different were the charge leads were on a red/black 2pin block that you put in the charger. Used it since and got a lipo bag just in case. I tend to balance charge and if not used all battery within a run I discharge it within a day or two then storage charge if not using for a few weeks which with weather in uk has been regular at mo. Sorry for droning on, that’s just my experience with this charger. By the way I agree with the comments about if it works and charges it’s fine, I’m a bit OCD with things so it bugged me that I felt I’d got a fake and lipo’s are new shmoo to me and didn’t want house burning down lol. I’m more chilled with things now though. Cheers 👍🏻
Hey dude it's not droning on, if it's important information haha. Thanks for taking the time to write all that out much appreciated. I'll be looking at the charger today at some point and buying new one very soon. Also I'm glad your back into the hobby shame it had to be because of this crap ATM but none the less welcome back bro haha.
I got one of these a few weeks ago and it worked fine for balance charging. However, when I decided to do a storage for my lipos, with the correct settings for storage it still charged my batteries even when it was set to storage. I watched the voltage continue to rise as it was suppose to be reducing the cells to storage voltage. The only way i could store them was to put it in discharge mode. Remarkably, it stored the cells at the proper balance amount. Don't know if the menu selection is faulty but that is how ai got it to store. And all cells were at the same 3.4 volts per cell. PS. it was the same on all my batteries I have so it was not the batteries.
Pretty strange not to do as you've told it as in set storage yet you watched it charge the battery above the desired amount. Glad you found a way to store your batteries, honestly I run mine down in the car with a battery buzzer once that goes off I'll store that battery.
@@mehimrc1314 Also, my problem is that i plan to fly my planes and charge my batteries the day before and then don't get to go fly so i'm stuck with a full battery. That's when I have to restore my battery. So I will just have to get another charger, this was is probably just a bad one
Interesting video and food for thought. I use a skyrc charger with the blue tooth connection. I used to have an imax but swapped it as i wanted something a little newer with dual charging. Never had an issue with mine. Originally purchased on fleabay so unsure if it was a rip off unit or not, but as has already been said, if it works why worry. Keep an eye out when charging. Use at least a lipo bag. I have a 50 cal ammo box for storage and charging. Sealed when closed. Just gives a bit of extra piece of mind. Great vid once again. Cheers and keep safe.
Great tip with the ammo box and I do store/charge unusually in a lipo bag but for the video it worked out easier to keep it out. But yet again your so right always protect your self for safety and peace of mind. Thanks for the info I might have to look into that charger.
I have 2 of these same chargers that I bought from banggood about a year ago. So far they've been alright but I'll definitely be watching them a bit closer now. Thanks for the info. 👍🍻
Any info is good info when it's comes to batteries. It peaked my interest enough to make the video incase anyone leaves there batteries unattended think twice. I honestly doubt my charger after seeing this.
@@mehimrc1314 I have a battery bag and a metal box that I use but I still keep an eye on them when they're charging. You never know so it's better to be safe.
@@robsrcinsanity1220 I hear that bro, got a few bags just easier for the video to explain stuff. And it's nice when others put the same stuff in the comments just shows how important this subject is with RC car.

If the cells don't balance then there's not much that can be done. Try a treacle charge, set the charger to 1amp and see if this helps, if not the cell is on its way out. You can get rid of the bad cell, open the battery up and make it 5s if you have the knowledge.
@@mehimrc1314 yes but if I make it to 5s i won't be able to use the balance charge mode again that is the issue for now I am using the balance mode without issues
You can still use the balance mode once you've removed the cell and reattached the wiring minus one. I get what your saying, if the battery is new then contact the seller.
Hey there. The misconception here is that your concerns are based on the reading of a "capacity checker". It is not possible to read the capacity of any battery. That would need a full discharge/charge cycle permanently measuring both current and voltage. All these things do is read the voltage and GUESS the capacity. Not saying your IMAX is real or not, just be careful with those checker things. And btw - the original charger was made by Junsi, all other brands including IMAX are clones/rebrands. If you really wanna make sure your charger is working properly you'd need to calibrate it. That would require a 6S battery and a good voltage meter.
My concerns are with the charger not the checker. It charged an empty zop 4500mah in less than an hour, it's never done that before so best ask a question than burn the house down. I put another question in the description that your comment adds too. Who's responsible for checking like banggood for fakes? And why should we the consumer need to calibrate anything? Thanks for the awesome comment and information we need more information like this spoken about not argued but spoken about.
@@mehimrc1314 Oh I might have overheard that 4500mAh thing. Sorry, just woke up... (And maybe cause of your accent, lol). That battery might be defective, old, high internal resistance, can't really say anything without further investigation. That battery is almost new so you never know. But yeah, noone checks for fakes, especially when bought from Asia. Sadly it's hit and miss, kinda. Gotta buy from the LHS to be on the safer side, still worthless if the house burnt down though...We the customers take all the risk unfortunately. You don't need to calibrate it, I brought the calibration topic up just because some might want to be extra safe. This charger (and its bigger brothers) has been discussed on the forums for years extensively, people wanted to squeeze every little bit out of it, so to speak. In conclusion, you don't "have to" calibrate, they were all set up well from the factory. It's more like getting the voltage readings to 100% up to the very last digit.
