Rare honest warning.thumbs up for not being afraid to tell the truth 👍
Yep too many RUclips reviewer's suck .
Do boy's
fan replacement tutorial?
Looks same issue with toolkit rc charger. Fans having a hard time on 6s battery
What's there to fear?
I bought one a few months ago. Works perfect. Love it.
Mine still works great. But I did buy a icharger DX6 and it had a noisy fan out of the box. QC issues happen. Hopefully they got it taken care of.
This is really odd. I was sent a review sample as I put it though full load testing and had no issues. I have also used mine fairly extensively since the review as it’s my favourite in bag charger, in fact it’s been used 3 times just today and I have had zero issues.
On my review I have not had a single user post an issue and on my discord I have a number of users with the charger all again with out issue.
So far mine and all the ones I know of have been fine.
The only thing I can think of if there is a batch issue and you have had all chargers from the same batch or something like that.
I will be speaking with them on this as it is concerning as I gave this charger a very positive review and would continue to today based on my experience however I am watching this closely.
I will add for people saying things like “nice to see someone telling the truth” ect in a review I fully test all products before content is made including load testing to the max rating. Clearly something is bad with these units however it does not mean everyone else is lying.
We can only share our experience, mine had and continues to work fine and all the ones I know of have too.
100% - Reviewers can only show what we see. My initial review was also positive and I stand by that material. Sadly, it didn't take long for the issues I've shown to appear.
@@RCVideoReviews it’s really odd. I’m going to speak with them as it causes all of us credibility issues sadly. Clearly something is very wrong here.
Three different suppliers:
eBay - 2 Orange/Blue
Radiomaster - 1 Orange/Blue
Racedayquads - 2 Silver/Grey
Statistically speaking--they have a serious QA problem.
I've had mine since June '23 and it's still working. I only charge 1500mAh and under batteries at 1C rate though.
Glad it's working for you. There have been enough videos and comments at this point I feel comfortable saying I would not trust this charger with my Lipos.
@@RCVideoReviews Yeah, I wouldn’t buy it again knowing what I know now.
The chargers I have won't charge at a high rate on balance mode even if you set it to a higher charge rate..On balance mode the charge rate is usually only equal to the discharge rate of your charger and my charger instructions says to always hook main lead up first then balance lead and disconnect and reverse order..
What I noticed after more than a year with mine is that the fan sometimes gets a little bit of dust and hair in there, so the fan starts to sound funny from time to time, so with some compress air it works again as a charm .
Never doubted that honesty and your audience best interest are on top of your priorities list John. Thank you a lot for a job well done. Unfortunately this b6 is on my bench, unboxed, about a month now, together with an isdt q8, also unboxed (I had the epiphany to buy two different mini chargers). Will give you feedback after I try them the next days. Fotios
I have one that hasn't given me any troubles so far. I sincerely hope your experience is better than mine and more importantly, I hope SkyRC does something to fix this situation.
@@RCVideoReviews Well, after about 5 times that I used it, mine failed also. I get the "cell error" and connection break" message. It's unbelievable how this terribly manufactured product passed their QC...
@@fd2237 I got that error after only 5 minutes. I stopped the charger early on its first use to play with the menus, and that was it! It never worked again!
Sorry :(
I think this has the same fate as Toolkitrc M6. After they stopped releasing firmware update, thermal control is slow to react in time and when it does, its already too late( burnt smell). I had to bypass the fan wire inside and let it run directly without firmware control to prevent self destruct and eliminate fire hazard.
Ugh, not cool.
@@MrWebertube open the case. Remove the fan wire. Find the usb power trace. Solder.
@@skelethornbrois what you expect from a charger?
I’ve had mine for a week and it’s working so far but the fan does seem pretty cheap. Sometimes the slightest bump and it gets out of balance. It doesn’t correct itself either and I have to restart it.
So just to confirm, the only failure is the fan right? And that fail only slows the charge rate not, not fails completely?
Because I own a Dremel and a soldering gun, and fans are cheap, and am ok replacing the fan.
I'd much rather hack up a $20 POS and make it work, than pay $130....
Cell connect errors too. Not trustworthy.
@RCVideoReviews so is that after running it with a dead fan and having it overheat repeatedly? Or fresh out of the box, fan still working, and disconnect errors 1st try? From what I read, they fail over time, and the fan usually fails 1st leading to full failure. That or the screen is DOA.
@@RCVideoReviews well, I think the easier solution, will be the old Amazon swap... ie. 28 days from now, I will return it for a replacement, and get a new unit every 28 days... Zero guilt if the product is known to have design flaws that are not addressed.
@@RCVideoReviews Additional question, did you ever install the recent firmware upgrade on any of them? My guess is that they may have corrected a faulty fan setting since your review.
Added some thick Moly grease to the fan on mine. Not heard a peep out of it in months and it's used daily. Think that had a batch of ban fans with no lube at all.
Nice. I added a hammer to mine and it hasn't made a peep since either. Win win :)
@@RCVideoReviews Ah precussive mantainance !
hahah yeah.
Mine has been rock solid for one month now, charging tinywhoop (6 at a time), 4S and 6S at 1C. I only power it through USB-C PD so it doesn't hit those 200 watts and I updated the firmware to the latest. Well, time will tell...
These all had the latest firmware update. I don't believe the fan issue had anything to do with charge rate. In any event, good luck with it.
Very strange charger. He charged the battery 18650, previously discharged it with this device. The charge showed 715 mA, then this battery immediately inserted into a Liitokala and it was ahead of another 700+mA. The limit of the charge was set at 4.2V. I checked the same experiment on other batteries.
yeah he’s using it wrong
So many utubers came out buy this but this channel don't buy period. Thank u so much for your time and effort to make this hobby enjoyable.
My initial look was positive as well, but that's the problem. Out of the box these types of devices usually work. So I'd be careful assessing blame outside of SkyRC who needs to do a much better job testing their gear before putting it on the market.
I'm not blaming anyone. If they would of tested the product like u did instead of using it probably once. And I stand by my comments
I've just made it a point during an initial video to say, "first look" because out of the box, these devices tend to work well. And TBH, sometimes these types of devices get stuck in a drawer after the "first look" and not used regularly, or again. My initial test results were positive as well. I think the difference here is I actually used them and when I found issues, I shared those issues with everybody; however, I can see the other side of the coin because there have been plenty of devices that get tossed in a drawer after a first look...that's all I'm saying.
Way late question but...
I'm curious why you didn't use a ToolkitRC M7 as a replacement (Since the B6Neo was a "budget" choice.) instead of jumping way up in price for (presumably) an icharger S6/X6.
ADC drift.
Hi, I had just bought one of these and was quite worried after seeing your video. I got a grey one but it works fine so far. I have noticed the fan struggles when the fan is placed face down, i found it works much better when the screen is placed face down against the table as it says do not cover, put of curiosity did you try this with any of them?
what about the b6 ac Neo version which is a bit bigger, does it have better fans ?
I have lost faith in this company. They **should** have taken this piece of junk off the market and refunded everybody's money who purchased it, but instead they kept selling it which I consider acting in bad faith. There are better options. If you want a kickass and reliable small form factor charger, look at the iCharger x6 or x8.
thanks for the video, you sharing your experience is much appreciated
My pleasure!
You're welcome.
Thanks for the video. Guys. I am new into RC. What charger should I buy then? That I can trust and doesn't cost a fortune... Thanks.
iCharger x6 is $100. It's not cheap but it's very effective, accurate, and powerful. If that's too much, consider ToolkitRC chargers.
If you have cell error you can just replace fuse or completely remove it. I fixed two chargers that way
This charger should be shunned and avoided. It's a piece of junk.
Planning to buy this now, whats the status of that black/solver one still works?
It was smashed with a hammer and thrown in the trash where it belongs.
Thanks for the heads up. I have just one and will monitor it close, knowing it may faill soon.
I hope your experience is better than mine.
@@RCVideoReviews I'm not betting on it.
It's smelling hot and the fan is done. Another one bites the dust
Sorry to hear it :(
11 months later, did it fail?
Thank you. I just bought a radiomaster boxer and I was going to buy one of these for that and some of my 3 and 4 s batteries. I was also impressed by the size. Hopefully they will fix these issues instead of getting butt hurt. For now I’m going with a toolkit.
Probably a good decision. The odds right now are not good on these B6neos.
Get the hota s6. you won't ever need another charger.also the d6 is a great option but i prefer the s6
I need it to be a lot smaller than that for my field box. I have some solid desktop chargers, but so far have failed to find an acceptable compact charger for my field box.
Hi,had mine for about 6 months now now,no issues yet
I appreciate honest channels like yours for not pandering and shilling for these companies to make a buck while appeasing them, it shows integrity which is hard to come by nowadays. Literally every known and big RUclips channel praised these chargers to appease their masters without putting in the time and effort to do an honest and proper review, which is why I left the RUclips reviewer world 6 years ago, way too much pandering and dishonesty to fool the consumer.
Thanks for all that you do and for keeping it real, but just be prepared for the blowback from loyal brand consumers and companies who blacklist your channel, it happened to Xjet (Bruce) years ago as well
.
Well, they're great when they work😅
I reviewed this unit and use mine literally daily. I gave it a glowing review and would today as mine has been perfect. Just because he has had issues that does not necessarily reflect everyone’s experience. I massively test products before making a review including full load testing and even checking them on an Oscilloscope however mine has not failed. I have 3 users on my discord who bought their units and theirs has also not failed. So there is definitely a fair mix here of results.
However just because we have not had issues does not mean we are lying or not telling the truth. There is something here we need to understand however it’s not that everyone else is lying.
I have openly said I will not review toolkit RC products on my channel any more due to issues so I am far from afraid to say how it is.
@MadRC Guilty conscious, is that what made you write this essay, or to save face to show you are objective, truthful and have integrity?
You have made a lot of assumptions with your statement, as if I'm calling every review and reviewer a shill or liar, so you might be or not as I've never heard of or ran across your channel. Needless to say the pendulum swings and works both ways with your examples, meaning just because yourself or people you know haven't had issues with your particular units, doesn't mean you're not in the minority and these problems aren't a bigger issue, or that your units won't fail in the near future since these haven't been out that long.
Which leads me to another point, how can you give a newly released product a glowing review without doing any sort of longevity testing, or have a bigger sample than one unit or what's "cherry picked" for a reviewer?
Things and questions like that make me ponder the honesty, integrity and objectiveness of said reviews and reviewers, so don't take it personally unless you're having a guilty conscious about the way you do or portray things.
@@steelrainfpv3383 "Guilty conscious, is that what made you write this essay, or to save face to show you are objective, truthful and have integrity?"
Is a guilty conscious what makes you write an essay? Your essay is even longer than Ian's. This must mean you're even more guilty.
What an ass.
Most likely it's a bad fan. On one my charger, it also bad acts up fan and buzzes. The charger also has a power supply problem. When you connect from the XT60 and start charging the battery, a current surge of about 6A occurs, and if your power supply is, for example, 100 watts and has protection, then it turns off. There are no problems when connecting from PD. I have two b6neo and both have amperage peack problem in start charging of battery.
I love that the algorithm delivered this video the day I received mine
Oh no!
My order is en route from AliExpress, and if it turns out to be defective, returning it to the seller would cost more than the item itself (29€) due to expensive shipping from Italy to China. Thus, I'm really hoping I'll be among the fortunate ones. 😢
@buatt How has it been? Bought mine from Ali as well
@@buatt returns are free, stop lying, and it's only 18 usd on ali
Just got one and tried it today I thought I was doing something wrong but mine kept saying connection break and cell error on 6 different batteries I tried. My good friend has one and had nothing but good to say about it so I got one and mine is sadly trash!
You're not alone. This charger has had a lot of problems.
There is a new version B6neo+ that they claim to fix the fan issue. I have one on the way, hope it's working good.
So.....if not this, which else do you recommend that does exactly the same work (including PD) without issues?
I started using iCharger X6s after this and haven't looked back. They don't have PD.
i had bought this brand new one on 2023-12 but doesn't charge my battery at day one, which display "connection break" again and again when i press the start option, the output port remain ZERO current, i double check the settings the connection wire and the 40% battery are in OK condition, replace another battery, try restore factory settings, no help, fail whatever
What's hardware version of your faulty chargers? I recently bought a pink one with HW v.1.02 and all functions work fine. Hope they did something with a hardware.
Sorry, this charger is in the bin. I'm not wasting any more of my time on it. It's a piece of junk. I recommend sending it back as soon as possible.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for reply, but I'll keep mine, hoping it will last.
Your money, your hobby. Good luck with it.
What's your opinion on the Hota D6 Pro? Still a recommendation? What about the SkyRC D200 Neo? My SkyRC D100 V2 is still running without issues after 5 years, but I need more powah
Both Hota D6 and SkyRc D200 neo are top chargers, worth to buy.
Hi there,
Last week mine started with the break connection/cell error. Are there maybe any solutions by now how to fix this? Best regards!
Yup, throw it in the garbage and buy an iCharger x6.
@@RCVideoReviews 😅 hoped there was an easy fix on the hard- or firmware for that known issue. I'm wondering why these two errors always switch from start to start. Especially because the batterycheck function still works flawless. Well anyways, thanks for the quick response aswell as for the video that states out the poor quality and marks the error that occured on mine. I'll check out the i-charger.
How did your icharger X6's work out. I am on my second Icharger 458 Duo and it is not accurate and keeps developing lines on the screen. I want to love it, but it has not been reliable.
Use them every time I fly. Working quite well.
I totally agree with you. First thing was the fan started being noisy after about 2 hours of charge.
After that it charged the batteries to 4.31V/Cell even though it's set to 4.2V.
Third it also gave me the connection break/cell error.
Rather go for the ToolkitRC M7. Got them at the same time and haven't had any issues with the M7.
Skyrc chargers are not great. Have a Q200 4 bay that also has a lot of issues
These chargers are junk and should be banned for sale in the US. Consumers are being ripped off.
I have an issue with a fan on this charger as well. It started around one month after purchase - a fan can start only if I keep the charger in vertical position, otherwise it just making some weird noise and stops. Also, once or twice a week it shows "low voltage" warning randomly, and i have to disconnect and reconnect my power supply.
Well, it still works and I can charge with it, but I'm definitely not impressed with a quality of the charger.
Exactly. They're junk. Do yourself a favor and get an iCharger X6. You'll never look back.
Good call John , I’ve always stayed way behind the curve on new stuff and wait it out a while , when I see people using stuff in abundance I tend to go with it , take the tx16s was in many a video and all had good stuff to say so yea good stuff , let’s hope they redeem themselves in the future
I hope so. I do appreciate the aggressive price strategy, but not at the expense of having a reliable product.
Same here! first it works fine... (for about 10lipos) then it stop working...same error like your second : Conection break or Cell error. So what I should do? any cloue ?
and do you have a good alternertiv?
Try and get a return from your retailer. The only compact charger I recommend right now is the iCharger x6.
Thanks for this! I'll share this with our Weekly FPV News channels and hopefully prevent some new pilots from having a bad experience. 🙏🏻
You're welcome. Yes, definitely share the info.
Too bad, I already received mine from Rotor Village earlier today. And I am having the same issue with fan. It works, and then it grinds... and then it works, and then it grinds some more... :(
Holy shit fire. I just ordered 10 of these motherfuckers. I’m sending every fucking one back. This is unacceptable.
Nothing wrong with them
Unfortunately this is not the first one. My B6neo stopped working (error message), too, as I already wrote (hesitating to buy a further one actually, but I love this charger because of PD function); few years ago I had a failure rate as you in the Neo, in the ISDT PD60 - 4 out of 5 did not work. I got my money back (Amazon and Banggood, bought 3 from Amazon and 2 from BG).
I'm a little concerned with this race to the bottom. I appreciate affordable gear, but it doesn't mean much if it doesn't work correctly over time.
@@RCVideoReviews My 20 bucks SkyRC B6 copy from Hobbyking from around 2010 still works flawlessly ;-)
Yeah, they built a rep based on those chargers. Unfortunately they pissed it away with this one.
I have had two iCharger X6 chargers fail. The first was so far out of spec that you couldn’t calibrate it (off by 2v per cell). The second one worked great for 4 months and went to a black screen during a storage mode and won’t turn on. The third one is ok so far, but I don’t trust it. The store said they’ve had a bunch of X6 die but the X8 seems reliable.
Yikes. That doesn't sound good especially given how much they get for these things.
But iCharger X6 does not have PD - power delivery protocol. And I wanted B6 Neo so badly for that feature :/ Sad to see these news
I know...I wanted to see these succeed.
great testing methodology, thanks for this valuable info sir.
You are welcome
After the power goes out at the input, is there such a thing that the charging process does NOT automatically resume, the device announces an error, and it is necessary to remove the error and press "start" again?
I don't know the specific behavior on this piece of crap of a charger. Some chargers stay powered on when a battery is connected to the output. It's possible some might resume after disrupting the input power--I don't know. It's not a use case I ever tested.
@@RCVideoReviews I bought a B6ACneo, it is a new model with 110-220 input, it shows an error if the power is turned off and on again. B6neo users now responded that B6neo has the same behavior. The cooler on the B6ACneo is smaller and the box has a couple of screws on the bottom.
I'm not trying to shut you down. Please feel free to enjoy the channel and participate, but I personally have less than zero interest in SkyRC chargers. This B6neo is a terrible device. I don't think it should be sold to consumers. They know it. The retailers know it. And yet, they're still selling them.
@@RCVideoReviews I can return mine to the seller if you recommend a better model and it will be on sale. I'm no longer glad that I bought this because the 220 volt socket is held in place only by soldering and not by the housing.
q.e.d.
Toolkit is better. iCharger is better but more spendy. ISDT has some nice chargers. None are perfect, all have flaws. None of the flaws I know of on Toolkit/iCharger/ISDT are safety issues or preclude your ability to use them.
Wish I'd seen this video sooner! I received a new B6 Neo and it was faulty right out of the box. The screen back light flickers on and off randomly. Its on its way back to the seller. Do you recommend the ISDT Q6 Nano as an alternative?
iCharger X6 is the only compact charger I would recommend at this point.
Is the fan supposed to turn on right as you plug it in? I just got one today and the fan won't turn on, and it keeps turning off while charging lol time to return.
Usually chargers fire the fans when first turned on for a few seconds, but whatever it's doing, you're making the right decision to return it. These are not trustworthy devices.
Can I use the same power supply for my ichargers to power this thing?
if it matches the voltage input then sure
Sad to see this. Mine has been good, been using it daily for a month or two. I parallel charge micro batts so pretty low amperage but fan has been reliable.
Good to hear yours is working well. Hopefully it serves you for a long time.
3 months later or so and therefore my question: any updates about the causes and sky rc reaction cause I have the 2005 b6 or so and that lasts still and serves us quite well.
I had hoped to find an answer from you here or on the channel, but so far I have not found anything or must have overlooked it.
No resolution. They’ve done nothing. These chargers should be avoided as far as I’m concerned.
@@RCVideoReviews thanks for the update you might also pin on top as a comment for all the others that will come across this topic.
Mad's Tech has also recogniced the issue that good chargers have become a gem hard to find compared to the past.
Look at the iCharger X6 for top of the line compact charger. Minor annoyances on them, but functionally, they're superb.
I just got a grey charger like a week ago and the first thing was to update it to the latest firmware. After charging like 10 packs, I'm getting now the gringind noise too...
I wish I could say I was surprised.
I have 2 for my 6S 1500 to 1850mah which i love as I can use from a USB-C PD power bank, or I charge at work before flying on my way home. I'll post here if either go, but maybe they just dont do well at 100+W?
I'd love to have more pd powered options.
I hope yours last. I can’t forgive multiple failures occurring within stated operating parameters. I also would like to see more PD options.
I hope you might test the isdt 608dc released in November and no review has been released.
Has quite similiar featurelist at least from my impression, not sure if that would deliver all that but that might be a good replacement of the B6neo
If the manufacturer promises 200 W then it should deliver, the isdt has a rating of 240W or so.
Might be worth to be one of the first to review that one . I has been released more silently, they are trying to establish a community for translating documents into major languages like spanish, german, french and so on who they send free units to get the translation right.
5 pages to translate would mean 30$ and if you need 5 hours to do it properly it will give you 5€ - properly means to not only translate words but to check them in every context and picture which is far more work , but a good way to get more localized manuals, less user errors and frustration even though I am happier with a great english manual than a german one cause if that is not crosschecked by a professional translator the usual german manual becomes crap cause it can be a machine based translation which usually goes from chinese over english into german, not direct from chinese into german, the reason for many huge mistakes.
I will.
I had a SKYRC Q200 that cought fire during storage charge of two 4s batteries. It was quite scary. SKYRC has a lot to prove before I bye from they again.
Disappointing. I have one skyrc q200. Still operating fine, but I will monitor it close. Mine only has had light duty use but I will monitor it. Thanks for the heads up.

Появилась версия с питанием AC 110-240V, B6ac neo, oн стал толще, возможно охлаждение там стало лучше, но вот цена неоправданно высока
Hey John, thank you for the video. Quick tech question on plugging the battery into a charger. Is there a recommend order for like plugging in the main leads plug first and then the balance plug? I do remember on one of my 3S 5000 packs I had a spark melting the balance plug a bit when connecting to a charger but I cannot remember if by that time I had the main leads plugged in already or not. Thanks a lot in advance for your expertise.
It doesn't really matter. In fact, on the B6 neo, it can be used as a cell checker if you plug in the balance lead first with no other power applied. I don't really get too many arcs with 3s, but I started using spark arrest xt90's on my 6s packs some time ago.
Any chance something got into the fan at the field and messed it up? The fan doesn't seem very well protected.
Zero chance. The chargers are actually mounted in a field box with laser cut mounting surrounds and the fan egresses into a closed box with suck/blow ventilation. Plus, the fan issues occurred on 3 different devices. One of them within an hour of production use.
untill now I didn’t find any problem yet in my batteries..
Did you check firmware version? my one’s firmware version is 1.55 when it arrived already.
I like this product very much.
but I should watch carefully when I try more A, Watt.. etc.
The working units were all updated to 1.61 prior to the weekend. One unit that was broke prior to the weekend was left on 1.55. That's the one that had the "connection break" error.
Firmware version should be 1.63 and that's the latest one. That's on mine, and it still has all those fan issues.
1.61 was the latest at the time.
@@RCVideoReviews - yes, completely understandable, I was just mentioning it so original poster knows it as well, since he asked _"Did you check firmware version?"_ - I just wanted to mention it since I am on even later, the most recent update and my unit does quite similar things too.
@@RCVideoReviewshow to update firmware?) My charger won't start with USB without PD. 😅
7.5Amps? who charges that high anyways? i dont think i have ever gone over 3amps charging. still wont be buying one of these. thanks for hte review
I regularly charge 6s5a. The 7.5a in the video was intended to generate heat so the viewer could see what happens once they warm up. I could have accomplished the same thing at 5a, but it would have taken 2 minutes of elevator music instead of 1.
In fact, I was first alerted to this issue while charging at 5a outdoors and the charger never went above 1.3a. Because the video was filmed inside at 73 degrees instead of outside at 100 degrees, I had to do something to illustrate the point. In any event, nothing in the video or at the field exceeded the stated operating parameters of the charger so the point remains valid.
Bought a b6 neo pink edition just so that I can use it as a voltage checker with no intention to use it to charge at all. So far only brought it to 1 flight session and guess what, it's showing issues already. The screen had developed 2 vertical lines, and the balance port connection is now unstable for one of the cells. Definitely not safe to use as a charger now as the reported voltage for the problematic cell channel can range from 0v to 4.4v.
Ugh. Sorry to hear it.
@@RCVideoReviews just placed an order for the isdt 608pd. Looks like a suitable replacement but features wise on paper it loses to the skyrc. But features doesn't matter if it self destructs in 2 weeks.
One of my golden rules on the channel is to do what you say you're going to do. I think the B6 pulls up well short of that rule.
@@RCVideoReviews saddest thing about my case is that the charger hadn't even charge a single battery yet and it had already failed.

I could live with a charger that gave me 2 solid years especially in the Florida heat I have in the summer. It gets downright hot out at the field. My issue with these is they failed under optimal conditions within a limited number of uses.
Right now, iChargers are my preferred brand. Hota is also pretty good.
I spose i should note that i have 1 that failed in 1 charge and storage cycle. I'm taking the plunge in replacing the fan myself.
Good luck to anyone on this mission - the size is 40mmx40mmx7mm......and the pcb is outputting 8 volts to the fan when enabled.
I think i found a 12v ball bearing fan that will fit and work - should be here tomorrow. My initial attempt was with a 5v 35x35x7mm blower style fan....with an ams1117 ldo to regulate the voltage down to 5v..... but it didnt move enough air
Thanks for this. What about the small Toolkit M7 charger?
I've had issues with calibration drifting on those over time.
@@RCVideoReviews Okay, thanks for the heads up about that.
Just bought mine, guess I'll just use it as an overpriced battery checker. Seems very good as a battery checker as the individual cell voltage page shows as soon as you connect the balance connector. Also the IR measurement in the menu is super nice and convenient being able to check IR without starting a charge. I can even check the IR of my dji batteries with a special cable!
Another charger to look out for is the upcoming ISDT 608PD. Seems to one-up the skyrc in every way. PD charging up to 140w even. I wonder if it brings up the individual cell voltage when you plug in the balance plug like the skyrc b6 neo, that is pretty much my favourite feature of the b6 neo.
By the way, what's your hardware version for all these? I bought the pink one and it says hardware version 1.02, hopefully the problems mentioned are solved in this hardware version...
Don’t bother with the 608PD. The Ux is impossible to use and it only charges, no storage or discharge option. Got it, but really disappointed in it as a portable charger.
@@CaffinePrinter what do you recommend as an alternative to both ISDT 608PD and b6
Neo. planning to get the q6 nano as last resort.
@@dmugas4989 I’ve been using the b6 neo for a bit and it’s been working pretty well. No issues yet, but I got it knowing the risks. The plus is I can use it with my laptops power brick, so less to pack. If it fails, hopefully it won’t be in a destructive way. I’ve been using the Q6 for a few years and it’s been very reliable with a a good UX. Like it a lot, but requires me to pack an additional power supply. Not ideal, but it’s been very reliable with my small sample size.
i have ISDT 608PD and i am very happy , my one neo b6 give up on PD port
@@hotabich1991 i got the b6neo ac so far soo good, the seller that i get always addressed my issues
I've noticed mine changes the sound of the fan and grinding when I flip it on it's LCD side (top). Even when I slowly tilt it back and forth (when looking at it from the fan side), it changes the sound of the fan... almost like it has gyro lol. Is it possible to swap the fan in these units?
They use the screen to cover the screws which give access to the internals. So, the screen might be removed, but after that, it'll never be the same again.
Same here 🙋🏼♂️
@@frankenfpv1802 - that could mean cheap, very cheap fans I believe.
@@RCVideoReviews - too bad. I was afraid of an answer like that. It sounds almost better to even cut the plastic at the bottom that covers that fan (if nothing else works), and then glue it back again, or do some kind of franken-traption at the end to close it. I just want it to be somewhat functional, at this point, the least of my desires is to have it look pretty :) Couldn't care less even if it doesn't have enclosure at the end :)
@@Seii-FPVfor sure the fan is the issue here. I ordered a next one to see if it improves but I highly doubt it. I bought it for the usb c input like most of us but like this it’s not a good travel Charger at all cause I can’t throw it in the bag charging and go cause I have to be worried it will get burnt out with the fan not working upside down.
Just saw the live vid.
And i wonder if it will perform better or at least correct, on a 24V +300w power supply?
Normally the math will 'dictate' a 24V supply for a big 6S charger, to reach the correct marks for charging big 6S packs on 4-5000 mAh batteries or even bigger.
It was on a 24v power supply at the field. It's not the input power, it''s a QA problem.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for that to be cleared.
I have just been making a field charge setup for myself, and was aware of that you actually need 24V, to make the 6S packs charge correctly.
I have passed the warning in my local groups, to let people know about the issues.
Happy flying. 🙂
FWIW You can charge 6s packs with 12s input. Our DC station is 12v and I charge from it regularly. The problem doing this of course is the amperage uplift.
For example, if I have a 25v pack at 5a that means I need 125w of power.
On a 24v system, that means 5.2a.
On a 12v system, that means 10.4a.
The chargers can usually handle the boost voltage from 12 to 24 though.
the seller refunded you the cost for defective products?
where to buy?
I bought 4 of them retail. 1 works. Of the 3 remaining, I'm holding on to them because SkyRC reached out to me. So I want to hold them in the event they need to see something or want them back.
Racedayquads has them, but I'd advise against it. eBay has them too.
@@RCVideoReviews are they planning to release some sort of firmware update for the fan issues?
I don't think the fan issues are software related. They have a hardware problem.
I have one and it works perfectly here. 100% satisfied.
Good luck with it.
Interesting - normally if there are duds, then I'll get it for the review, but the one I have has been working fine and I've been using it for the past few weeks. But I'll be keeping an eye on it looking for any strange noises!
Turn up the amperage too. I've been flying a lot of 6s4k/5k lately, so I'm hitting them with about 100-125w at 4-5a.
@@RCVideoReviews - could it also be that we (in Canada and US) got this batch that's affected? Mine is showing exactly the same problems like you discussed in your video. Same charger, and this B6 would sometimes throw the message at all, _"DC in too low"_ , while if I unplug it immediately and try again, it would give me another message: _"DC in too high"_
It could be. I know the idea of bad batches has been mentioned in different circles on this subject. I'll tell you who I feel bad for are the retailers who are going to get absolutely cremated with RMAs on these things.
@@RCVideoReviews - yes, and as soon as I've checked mine and notices the same or very similar things like in your amazing review, I've got in touch with the guy who runs the shop I've ordered mine from. I did not even ask for replacement or refund, and they told me I can send it back for a refund or store credit. Which I'm doing right now. Too bad, I really wanted this little guy to work fine. Few years ago,. I've had SkyRC S65 AC Balance Charger/Discharger. Nothing but amazing experience with it. I had to sell it only because it was up to 4s, and all my quads are 6s now. But the charger was solid, built like a tank.
Take a look at the iCharger X6. That's what I used to replace the B6s and just had my first flight day with them yesterday. *So far* they've been solid little chargers. Time will tell I guess.
Do these even measure internal resistance?
It does! You can check it in the main menu, or while charging.
@@adamhun994 ok thanks! I didn't think it does, i need more 6s
I ordered before I saw the video. Hope I have better luck. I’m only charging a 600mah 2s battery. If the fan fails I’ll try to return
Good luck.
thank you for sharing this. i am so lucky nearly place my order after watching so many positive review. i think there is a qc issue for the red-blue version. anyway, i pull my break 1st.
The first failure was a silver/grey version. Anyway, hopefully the video saved you some grief.
The skyrc imax b6 v2 is a solid piece. i have no issues since 3 years of daily use.
I had one of those for a long time and it worked well for me too. It's a long fall from where they were to where they are.
@@RCVideoReviewsWait.. what happened? Had my eye on one before I got the Neo
Thanks for the heads-up
You bet
Because some manufacturers are catching on to the fact that it's more profitable for them to produce products that are inherently defective, and will fail prematurely (due to planned obsolescence), as opposed to making products that are good quality and will last longer.
Also, I can expect that since this video, SkyRC won't be sending you any more products for review.
Would you please do a test on isdt 608pd
Not even worth it it doesn't even balance charge....
Take em apart change the fans and thermal paste where needed. Electronics especially mosfets hate the heat. If you’re gonna put that type of electronics in a small package make sure the cooling works bottom line.
Absolutely not on a brand new device. It's not a question of ability. I know how to do that type of thing--it's a question of why the hell should I have to on a brand new charger? These devices are absolute crap and should be taken off the market before they hurt someone.
Yep - mine has the fan issue and the disconnection issue too (though only on NiMh - not LiPo)
The one with the "cell error" message does not charge at all.
Interesting. When I try to use mine to charge a small glider NiMh pack, it displays "connection break" when trying "charge" or "re-peak". However, it works fine if I run a full cycle (discharge then charge). Figured it was more a software issue than hardware. The fan is obviously bad, though.
@@RCVideoReviews
Maybe they've improved the current batch but I've been running two of these (charging 1500mah 6S1P LiHVs every other day) for over a year without issue!
I wouldn't trust these chargers anywhere near my batteries. Just read the comments. These chargers are utter trash.
Definitely see your frustrated 😢, I just wants to order this, luckily have this clips, I should find another small charger… thanks 🙏
Look at the iCharger X6. Those are worth the $$. They put these B6neos to shame.
I wants to get ToolkitRC M7AC, what u think?
They use the STM based ADC which is known to drift. You're better off with an iCharger.
Thanks for the warning. I guess I will pass on USB-C PD input and just get the ISDT Q6 Nano.
A hamster on a wheel would be a better charger than this POS.
I bought one, used it few times, not too much load. But when fan kick in it grind for a moment, and then it spins normally. Soright now it is kind of ok but we will see.
That's a fail IMHO. It's not supposed to grind-ever. If it hasn't bombed out completely yet, it will. Totally unacceptable.
I like the Protek 625 charger. Charges everything from my 6s 3300 (x2) parallel charging (13.2 amps) on one bank while charging my 4s 1500s on the other side
I'm hoping the iCharger X6s I have inbound put my compact charger issues in the rear view mirror.
my charger have also problem with fan :( I want to mod this somehowe...
I'd say to try and get your $$ back if possible. Modding it will require the removal of the screen and it will never be right after that.
The fans in these have really crappy sleeve bearings, you can make them grind just by tilting the thing during charging.
Yup
Ive had mine a little while works great 👍
These chargers are utter crap and should be put in blenders.
If you want to trust your batteries, house, car, with highly volatile LIPOS to this POS of a charger, well--hope your insurance policies are paid up.
@@RCVideoReviews ok but those is the only video saying this stuff so we will see 🤞🏻
I also have one of these... the first time i took it out the fan grinded. I blew a can of air in it (immediately) on day 1 and the fan started no grind... ever since that day i've never charged it in any position other than completely flat on the table. Also.. i only charge 4S batteries on it (550mah / 750mah). I think for a tiny tiny charger its good for what it is, but charging a 6S 5000mah might just be too much for it.... but yah after seeing this video I don't think I can recommend this charger to friends anymore because I do think for 35 bucks you are at a pretty bottom of the barrel cheap charger. Also i will say I got mine direct from the company in China, so I possibly got a diff batch than the US / Canada... but the fan is 100% a issue... which the whole charger is an issue.
100% would not recommend this charger.
Wow thanks John for putting all this time in building stuff to show us the defects on products.
You're welcome. I just hope the information can create a positive outcome for you--the RCVR audience, and the manufacturers. They need to do a better job with QA.
@@RCVideoReviews I do agree a 100%. They should QC it properly before putting it on the shalfs.
Any updates on this chargers?
Nothing from SkyRC. I've disposed of them. Won't use them again.
*Always* wait a few weeks after the usual suspects release their 'reviews' on RUclips.
I've been lucky, mines worked perfect, its a red blue one and I've never had a problem with it
Yeah, you should buy a lottery ticket.
You had a lousy experience with these things. I have 8 of these chargers, and so far all of them are good.
Me and a lot of other people who have all commented about issues. These chargers should be avoided. People are being ripped off.
just bought the b6AC neo, hope they got the bugs out
You should send them back immediately. Untrustworthy devices.
@@DEeMONsworld How is it working? Just bought one as well
Sad, thank you, nearly bought my son 1 for his birthday,xo
Friend, you are buying fake chargers, most of those that sell in aliexpress are copies, with low quality components, this causes these problems, error in the recognition of cells, cooler stopped, there are some that can not even change the amperage of charging, this happens with cheap products, including those sold in the choice section of aliexpress. The chargers are not bad, you who are buying low-quality products, copies. Buy direct from manufacturers or official stores, and avoid inconveniences like this. ✌️😎
Except none of them were from Aliexpress. 2 of them were from Racedayquads and one of them was a sponsored charger. So....
I'm still rocking an iCharger 306B that's like 12 years old. It do work can't complain.
I have one of those too and it still works great. Same deal--have had it for about 8 years and it lives in an oven (Florida garage).
That charger isn't even category as this cheap charger though......
How about the toolkit m7?
The ADC drifts and the plastic is brittle. It's ok, but the best compact charger is an X6 or any of the subsequent derivatives.
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you
You're welcome.
I recommend toolkitRc M7 200w 10A 1-6s
I have 8 of them for long time now and not one failed!
They use the ADC in the STM32 processor which is known to drift. Keep an eye on the calibration. Otherwise, yeah, they're decent.
That's transparency man, respect.
On the field case - are you providing fresh air from the bottom for the fans? I hope you do, cause otherwise, you will suffocate the fans. Fans suck at drawing air from nowhere or through small gaps, thin meshes etc.
Yes, plenty of ventilation and active cooling on the field box. Fans on both ends suck and blow with a big vent on the back. I can discharge 200w using resistors inside the box no problem. This box has been in service with different chargers for over two years. None of them have failed due to fans before. Also, the ones that did fail due to fans:
1) Failed in the first 30m of use at the field around 8am.
2) Failed outside the box.
The one working one has been in use in the box for 2 weeks now. The last fly weekend was two days straight of over 100 degrees.
This is not operator error. It's a QA issue on the B6.
I wasnt suggesting its your fault, as i did pay attention during the video. I knew not all failed in the case.
You asked if I was "providing fresh air from the bottom for the fans?" Since I didn't describe box ventilation in the video, I wanted to make sure to address that because it's a valid question.
so sad to see this video cause i was excited to see usb-pd chargers finally available to make a very light pit package... two of these, a 200w laptop charger with multi ports and clean cables... i guess the isdt is the only option..? then storage at home with a proper charger ect.
The 608PD just released a firmware update that lets you charge to storage from below, but it still can't discharge. I would take the 608PD over this one any day of the week.
@@RCVideoReviews that is acceptable. the plan is to buy a imars d300 as a main charger ect but id like to have something small and tidy like this when i'm at the track racing.. i don't do any of the high current discharge stuff other racers do ect.. batteries are usually within storage voltage after a 6 minute heat i just don't want all the clutter i used to have with an icharger 308duo and power supply ect. having it function as a powersuply seems pretty sweet too.. using my 100w usb bricks to power dc tools at the desk like motor checkers, vacuum pumps soldering iron ect.
