Nordic Monsters: Used by a recurring team and are considered to be of the strength of the E-Gods. Some support, bad boss monsters, no divinity.
Wicked Gods: Used by the main villain for an entire arc, while being consistently there, of the original manga series. Literally no support, all the monsters are bad.
Sacred Beasts: Canonically shittier version of the E-Gods. Only used by the main villain of the arc in the final duel. Stupid amount of support. Very good non-meta archetype.

Ugh, I LOATHE Sphere Mode, Lava Golem, and every other example of a “Tribute *multiple* monsters belonging to your opponent, give them a useless (at best), or actively detrimental monster in exchange,” monster. The 1-for-1 nature of Kaijus is one thing, but I’ve always felt that packaging multi-monster removal that in practice is EXTREMELY difficult to defend against provides too much card advantage to the user. If “Sphere Mode Type” cards were limited to say, Tributing monsters brought out via Normal Summoning, it wouldn’t be so bad, but a way to kill 2-3 Extra Deck monsters that may have expended as many as 7-12 additional cards to bring them out with a single card is IMHO bad design. Other single cards that can reap great advantage by you going -1 to your opponents minus-many (Lightning Storm, Reigeki, Harpy’s Feather Duster) are very often Limited for precisely this reason, and these Limited cards can STILL be either main deck defended against, or at least sided to mitigate, if they’re proving problematic. Tribute-to-eliminate monsters even provide an extremely strong advantage when the opponent plays around them. Now, I’m not saying it’s some enormous problem for the game or anything so melodramatic. Just remarking on why I think the choice to make such cards in a multi-tribute form is/was bad design, for the same reason that floodgates that don’t have a significant cost for their user is bad design. Too much advantage, for too little resource expenditure.

So I have a fun story involving the god cards. I was dueling my friend, who had the illegal version of the Winged Dragon of Ra his deck (we based its effects off the anime, it was around the GX era), and he had summoned it to the field. He also had a Wingweaver (2750 ATK) on the field. He used Ra’s “reduce your LP to 1” effect from the anime and was one turn from beating me. I drew my final card: it was Monster Reborn. I played it, special summoned Cosmo Queen (2900 ATK) from his graveyard and attacked Wingweaver. Since he only had 1 LP I won the duel.
Edit: You gotta read the replies, there’s a guy who thinks you can’t attack with Special Summoned monsters, but is so stubborn and keeps doubling down despite being absolutely proven wrong and it is _glorious_

Lol. 100% hindsight for me okay? I think the first Gen 1 Ritual monsters might of seen play if they were in the Extra Deck/Fusion Deck along with the Fusion monsters and if they were given "niche meh meh" effects. All you need is the Ritual spell card. Sonic Bird, Senju and Manju all act as the Spell searcher. Each of these 3 can act as Level tribute requirement. Bare with me here okay?
Sonic Bird = Can be use as Level 4 Ritual tribute or lower.
Senju = Can be use as Level 6 Ritual tribute or lower.
Manju = Can be use as ANY Level Ritual tribute.
So about the "niche meh meh" effects...They should of came up with something like.....The classic Hungry Burger. Once per turn during your stand by phase you can special summon one Burger token on your side of the field. Dark. Warrior. Level 1. Attack 0. Defense 0. You can send the token on your side of the field during you Main Phase to increase 500+ life points. Or the classic Crab Turtle...give it Black Stego's effect and give it another bonus that it gains 500 defense during the damage step. Anyway this is all 100% hindsight and just my point of view. I think Ritual monsters might of seen play IN THE CAUSAL play if they were given effects.

@@SamuiNoBaka They didn't seem to care about investments with CED.
They _could_ turn the immunities of the god cards into rules for cards with those original names (that's how it was in the manga), or make another monster category like FLIP.
These immunities happen to cover most of the effects TheDuelLogs has alluded to: being affected by card effects only for a single turn also extends to Monster Reborn and the like, so the only thing left to be printed on the cards themselves would be their actual effects (and maybe also the requirement of three tributes, if one insists on not including that in the ruling).
Then the only problem is Ra, but the different effects are divided up between his different forms.
The regular one only had ways to gain stats: once from the monsters tributed for it, another time by converting your life points (which was independent from the Normal Summon and not just an optional when effect!).
Sniping monsters is what the Phoenix did, but that's screwed up by the Phoenix's summoning restriction; in the manga, Ra could go into Phoenix mode at will. A possible realisation is that by tributing Ra you could special summon the Phoenix from your hand, deck, or graveyard (maybe also the banish zone, to hammer home that this is a truly divine beast); the Phoenix mode could just be entirely unaffected by card effects as it is and have the targeting (?) destruction (?) with the LP cost (maybe unable to attack, though, since this is just a special form assumed for a different purpose); it would also tag out into sphere mode during the End phase.
Would this still be too long?
While we're at it: Slifer's floodgate should also affect monsters summoned in Defence position.

That's exactly how it worked there, too (or at least it did in the manga).
When the god cards were introduced, a hierarchy in the mythological background of the card game was revealed which had Ra at the top, Obelisk and Slifer right below him, and everything else below them.
This hierarchy manifested as rulings in the game, which declared that they all were affected by most card effects only for a single turn, after which they would return to their previous state (imagine destroying them with Raigeki but they just come back during the End Phase; or that Monster Reborn only revives them for a single turn).
I'm not sure whether Obelisk and Slifer had this immunity towards each other but Ra was unaffected by either (he couldn't be destroyed by Obelisk's effect, nor could Slifer reduce his stats).

Yu-Gi-Oh seems pretty averse to anything resembling keywords, instead trying to fit all the rules on individual cards rather than having info in a rulebook that can be accessed when there is a question about what things do and clearly explain potential interactions. Card types seem to be the only thing where they explicitly avoid writing all the rules for how they function on the card, likely because everything has a card type and repeating stuff like how to tribute summon or how chains work on a large portion of cards is just too much.
Additionally, attribute changing does exist, so they would have to further clarify that only cards with Divine as their original attribute get those protections.

The whole idea of them in the show is that they are incredibly hard to bring out because they are these giant boss cards but once you do bring back them out you have basically won the duel unless you either have some serious cheese or another god card to your name. It makes them sort of terrifying in a way because your opponent does bring out on the field even if you have one of those answers if you don't have them in your hand or whatever you have to draw them soon or you will just lose and if you don't have them at all it's basically an auto-lose. So I think they were trying to capture that same sort of feeling but the cards themselves clearly aren't good enough once they hit the field to give off that same kind of power.

Hardened armed obelisk is very inconsistent but was almost insurmountable in a time where non targeting non destruction or kaiju like removal was very rare

If you have both in your hand or at least Card advance, you can see the next 5 cards and re order them in any order. With both, you can play card advance, see the next 5 cards, play True Name, and call the card correctly. Just be careful when you do things as to not accidentally shuffle the deck.

You know, back when I lived in Cuba I had a duel where I won with the creator of light!
I was playing with a friend and we both had the god cards, I summoned (during the previous turn) Slifer, controlled Ra with change of hearts and used monster reborn to bring out obelisk; I then summoned The Creator Of Light and won the duel!
Keep in mind this was during 2019 in Cuba, we didn’t have access to a lot of cards, so we were still having pretty long and slow duels.
Definitely best ending to a duel I had seen up to that point.

Full power Ra would be something like:
“Requires 3 tributes to normal summon. This card’s normal summon cannot be negated. When normal summoned, other cards and effects cannot be activated. Neither player can target this card with card effects. This card’s original ATK and DEF are equal to the combined ATK and combined DEF of the monsters used for its tribute summon. During your main phase: you can pay LP in multiples of 100; this card gains ATK equal to the LP paid until the end of the turn, also during the end phase, gain LP equal to the LP paid. You can pay 1000 LP; this card is unaffected by other cards’ effects until the end of the turn, also send 1 other monster on the field to the GY. During the end phase: If this card left the field this turn because of another card, and is now in the GY or hand, or banished face-up; special summon this card. During the end phase: If this card was special summoned by another card’s effect; send it to the GY. During the end phase, if this card was on the field at the start of the End phase: you can destroy all face-up cards your opponent controls that activated their effects on the field this turn.”

      The Winged Dragon of Ra
      Level 10/DIVINE/Divine-Beast/ATK????/DEF????
This card cannot be Set. This card can only be Tribute Summoned by Tributing 3 monsters. The Normal Summon of this card cannot be negated. When this card is Normal Summoned, Spells, Traps and other monsters' effects cannot be activated. While this card is on the field. The Summon of this card cannot be negated. Control of this card cannot switch and it is unaffected by the effects of Spell Cards, Trap Cards, and other monsters. Your opponent cannot tribute this card. When this card is Special Summon from the Graveyard, it is sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase. If this card is Special Summoned; Destroy all card(s) your opponents controls. This card can always attack during the turn it is Summoned. This card's ATK and DEF are equal to the combined ATK and DEF of the monsters Tributed to Summon it, respectively. You may pay 1000 Life Points to destroy all monsters your opponent controls. When this card is Special Summon you can use these effects:
●You can Tribute monsters in order to increase this card's ATK by the Tributed monsters' ATK. You can pay any amount of Life Points in order to increase this card's ATK by the amount of Life Points paid. This card can attack Directly. If you use this effect, you can send one "De-Fusion" in your hand or under your control to the Graveyard in order to reduce this card's ATK to 0 and increase your Life Points by this card's prior ATK also negated the attack.
●During either player's turn, you can pay 1000 Life Points, immediately transform "The Winged Dragon of Ra" into its Phoenix Mode. Until the end of the turn this effect is activated, the ATK and DEF of this card are reduced to 0 (the ATK and DEF of this card return to their respective values prior to this effect's use) and it gains the following effects: ● This card cannot be destroyed by battle, and you take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card. ● This card cannot be targeted and is unaffected by the effects of other monsters, Spells, and Traps. The effect of "The Winged Dragon of Ra" only affects this card for one turn... The full effect of anime Ra.... It would have to be a special card to fit all of this.

But you don't really need to adapt everything and can simplify or remove a lot of clunky effects (like can't do anything on summon effect, which is completely worthless), while still maintaining the idea of the card.
Requires 3 tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). Gains ATK and DEF equal to combined original ATK and DEF respectively of monsters uses for it's tribute summon. Cannot be destroyed by card effects. Unaffected by monster effects, expect for monsters with equal or higher level. This Special Summoned from the GY card also gains these effects:
      • When summoned: You can pay any amount of LP in multiples of 100; this card gains that much ATK and DEF.
      • (Quick Effect): You can pay 1000 LP; send 1 card on the field to the GY.
      • During the End Phase: gain LP equal to this card's current ATK, then send this card to the GY.
Konami easily could've done something like that or even better.

I think a cool card you could have mentioned is "Hardened Armed Dragon". You can special summon it by sending a lv. 8+ monster from your hand to the graveyard, and if you use it as tribute fodder for a lv 7+ monster, that monster can't be destroyed by card effects. I used it on my Earthbound Immortal decks to make them immune to their own self-destroying effects, and it would probably be a good way of raising the god cards defense against removal (especially Obelisk, who would become immune to targeting and effect destruction)!

Haven't seen the full video yet, so will edit if this is addressed, but for now: The thing to remember is that Kazuki Takahashi wasn't necessarily trying to create a coherent and balanced card game that could be replicated in real life. He started more carefully considering and factoring in those details when Konami got their hands on the card game. But the card game (which, may I remind you, was originally meant to be a one-off game during the earliest days of the manga) is just a vehicle to tell his story, and a card game that's expected to have rules and balance doesn't always translate into a good vehicle to tell a good story with all sorts grand and important lore. He was thinking about making the God cards as powerful as possible because that played an important role in the story, which gave Konami a massive headache when they needed to work all of that power into a card game with some level of balance to it.
...I wish I didn't say "balance" so much.

If one of the longest running weaknesses of these three tribute monsters is firstly having the required tributes out at once, I have an idea to aid that while providing some good support for normal monsters in general:
    _Normal Summon Cavalry_
    Quick play spell
_Banish one monster card from your hand or side of the field; you may conduct three additional normal/tribute summons of monsters with the same type and attribute as the monster card banished until the end phase of your next turn. If this set card is activated, you may add one level 10 or higher monster from your deck or GY to your hand, and if you tribute summon it before the end phase of your next turn all cards on your opponents side of the field are flipped facedown._
OK, after some feedback from comments below, I’ve decided to throw in some restraints to make sure this isn’t TOO abusable:
_Banish one monster from your hand or side of the field; you may conduct three additional normal/tribute summons of monsters with the same type and attribute of the monster banished until the end phase of your next turn. Until the end phase of the next turn after this cards activation, Monsters you normal/tribute summon cannot be used as material for extra deck monster summons, and are banished when they leave the field. If this set card is activated, you may add one level 10 or higher monster from your deck or GY to your hand, and if you tribute summon it before the end phase of your next turn your opponent flips all of their cards on the field facedown. You may only use_ *Normal Summon Calvary* _once per turn._

The funny thing is, Konami probably forgot that “Soul energy MAX” is the name of Obelisk’s other offensive effect, where the player tributes two other monsters in order to make Obelisk’s attack infinite until the end phase. That or they thought that “Soul energy MAX” sounded way too cool to miss out on but thought that his infinite attack effect was too overpowered to be included in the game so they gave the card the other offensive effect of Obelisk instead.

lol man Obelisk the Tormentor has a special place in my heart. Once upon a time at my friend's house in like 2015, we were playing a tag team match in a similar vain to when Yugi and Kaiba fought Loomis and Umbra in the anime, except way worse lol we shared a field and had 16,000 life points. Just one of those one-off wacky game modes you do, but then we eventually found out that this was an actual game mode on YGO Pro haha
Anyways, my partner and I were both running Majespecter Metalfoes and our opponents were running either Fluffals or Superheavy Samurai (he played both decks quite a bit, don't remember), and his partner had Masked Heroes. My Metalfoes deck was a LOT worse than my friend's because he played tournaments and stuff and I had only just assembled mine a week or two prior, but I had an idea for a spicy tech - Obelisk the Tormentor. I kept it a secret until I could pendulum out some stuff thanks to my partner setting our scales. As I was shuffling my deck though, my partner was watching and he saw it and started laughing his ass off lmao He said he respects it. After thinning out my deck enough on my own and/or thanks to some Dark Bribes and Upstart when it wasn't limited, I finally drew into the Big O a couple turns later. Pendulum summoned for turn, I forget exactly what I put down, but then I tributed all of them to normal summon my Obelisk the Tormentor. Many laughs were had, and I still keep the spicy Obelisk tech in my Metalfoes deck to this day. Hell, if I run any Pendulum based deck, I always keep the pocket Obelisk in the side deck. You just never know, cause yes he's a pain to get out, but he can win games by himself if the conditions are right and/or if you can back him up. It really becomes a "protect the president" kind of game, using all your little guys with better effects to protect and make room for your 4,000 beatstick, and it's not easy to pull off, but it's worth it when you finally do. Yeah, but that'd tale away their individual flavor. The God cards aren't like the Sacred Beasts who were always used together; they all had separate users who all played them differently, not to mention some very distinct effects.
Plus, they to tend to get common support if it's for something they all had in common; like Mound granting protection or Ultimate Divine-Beast using a God card revival strategy that was so common in the anime.

I think the issue is that there is a division between the engine cards for getting out the Gods and then the crazy God support cards which are useful when you already have the Gods onboard. A hand full of Joker Knights or Slime cards is fine as a tier 2 deck, to last a few turns but opening a whole load of Blaze Cannons or Fist of Fates really don't do anything.

"I put a win more card in my deck, but now I'm winning less?"
Honestly, outside of their built-in protection, I don't really think that they were really that significantly nerfed from their anime counterparts. Outside of some fringe irrelevant effects (like "you can use De-Fusion on Ra to gain LP"), Obelisk's only missing effect is the option for infinite attack (which would be something like its tribute effect having an "or" effect that makes it so that if it deals battle damage then you win the duel), Osiris' only missing effect is that the anime version also hit DEF position, and Ra's only missing effect is gaining ATK equal to its tribute materials.
So Obelisk could be used for a VERY slow and telegraphed OTK, Ra would be a bigger beatstick, and Osiris would be... Well, yeah, Osiris would simply be nuts.

in my opinion the Egyptian god cards should be redone as ritual monsters who's names are always treated as the originals to fix the issue with search & summon. Then maybe pay life points to negate effects, bounce cards without targeting, and draw/recover cards from the gy. I guess another good effect would be to search their support cards upon summon & but you can't use it until your next turn.

"Or stacking your deck and using The True Name" man... I felt that. LOL
In all seriousness, one very important combo you missed was pairing True Name with Card Advance. It let you "legally" stack your deck to call the right card all the time AND included a Double Summon mechanic that would also let you do a tribute summon in addition to your normal summon, very good in Slifer and Obelisk decks since they specifically need the help (Ra decks function perfectly fine without using True Name/Card Advance).

Its own effect isn't bad, it's good actually, if you managed to get 3 egyptian god cards on the field and have it in your hand, you won the duel.
Its usefulness is tied to the other god cards hitting the field easier, which if they do gets to the field easier, Horakhty is guaranteed to turn God engine into exodia-like Solitaire.

Yes Holactie (its TCG name) is the 6th Divine attribute monster and it’s type is Creator God as it’s the only monster of that type. In the OCG Konami made only 10,000 copies of the card So unless Konami decides to do a reprint of the card where it would go into mass distribution then that is the only way we can expect to eventually see it in the TCG plus it’s the only missing piece of the god card archetype that’s missing in the TCG.

26:35 so basically odd eyes' specific spell card "spiral flame strike" to either search for an odd eyes card or have another effect if the odd eyes is already on the field. In all honesty this idea plus some protection is all the god cards need. Maybe making it so ra's disciple gives an extra tribute summon for the turn or just more monsters that can be treated as 3 summons and god cards could actually work. still, it would be slow but not nearly as slow as it currently is.
