another funfact, sorcerer of dark magic art were taken from manga panel in which mahad summoned (now in adult form) his ka against bakura inside pharaoh fake tomb
Despite being the one no one wanted, Watapon was and can currently be used in an entirely NR FTK in Master Duel through use of Tethys, Goddess of Light
I did beat the first Tag Force game with a Pyramid of Light deck, not even knowing it was a movie card. Poping the trap with my own MST during the battle phase and going for game with Theniem seemed like such a busted strategy for me back then, and surviving long enough to set it up was easy enough in the game. I really wish they make a retrain of those cards one day.
I remember my parents buying me the dvd which also had the promo pack and I really wanted the sorcerer of dark magic, was so happy when I pulled it haha, that bad boy was put in all my decks and ended up with tape wrapped around the top because it started to peel 😂😂
i remember my parents went to blockbuster to rent this movie for me and a cinderella story for my sisters. blockbuster gave them a promo pack and i pulled blue eyes shining. i was miffed af that i didnt have a ultimate dragon and my cousin stole the card to use with his fake ultimate dragon and gave me his watapon saying that itd be better for my deck
I pulled Watapon and was thrilled lol. I still have it. My childhood deck didn't have Ultimate or Spellcasters so it was the only card I could use. Being adorable was a bonus.
I personally believe that Blue Eyes Shining Dragon was the inspiration for my favourite monster, Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman, so I have a special respect for it.
This was one of the few anime movies my parents went to go see with me in cinemas so i have alot of fond memeories of this movie. I still have my shining dragon somewhere in my collection too!
One of the first games I played on Dueling Book was with Sorcerer of Dark Magic. I didn't know you had to say you were activating effects, I was used to the DS games where it automatically did that. So a Scrap player went second, doing their thing, I'd set Magician's Circle. My turn, used it and Dark Magic Circle to get Dark Magician and Girl out, tribute those for it. Attack, opponent activates Sakuretsu Armor, I don't know what buttons to press to say I use the trap effect, panic, shut it down, don't go back for a few years.
Shoutouts to the structure deck reprint of Sorceror of Dark Magic, I never got to see Pyramid of Light in theatres so I was really happy to get Sorceror of Dark Magic another way.
I played the sphinx card with toons. People hated it as I could pay 500 LP and summon a (sudo) blue-eye or dark magician and the toons had a buff with scapegoats as you tribute to special summon
One thing to note is that 3 of the 4 movie promos had at least one effect missing from the anime version. Blue eyes shining could target any number of cards on the field and destroy them, along with itself. Sorcerer of dark magic could target a monster on the field and lower its attack for each spellcaster in the gy Pyramid of light destroyed amd banished any god cards on the field. I get that the gods werent released so pyramid of light couldnt have the anime effect, but the other two had no excuse.
I got Watapon... he's still like my favorite card to this day... Lol loved summoning him with Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest, and he was one of few LIGHT monsters I had any synergy in my Magician Deck. He was tribute fodder for my DMG and Chaos Command Magician, while helping me summon Chaos Sorcerer 🤷♂️ (all of which helped me summon another terrible card, Sorcerer of Dark Magic 😂) of course it wasn't the best card, but on the playground it helped me countless times with all my draw cards (Pot of Greed, Card Destruction, Graceful Charity, etc). I was known for using Watapon lol, it was a bit of a joke, but I always screamed "I SUMMON WATAPON!!!" even more intensely than when I summoned a god card 😂 My friends would even Solemn my Puffball Buddy just to hurt my feelings.
I loved Rare Metal Dragon as a kid. Being able to summon it made me happy, even if it didn't win me the game lol. I still hope that card becomes relevant somehow in the future. I guess it's just a pet card of mine now.
Man, what a blast from the past. The summer after the movie came out I helped my Grandma with "National Night Out," and the local movie theater donated a bunch of the single promo cards they had left for grab bags. At the end I ended up going home with about 20 packs. Still have at least 4 of each promo in my binder.
worth mentioning that necroface was used to make inferno tempest a near-certain deckout. so many anime effects of these cards were really cool, shining dragon said " offer this card as a tribute to destroy any cards you choose"
I never got a chance to get any of these cards from a pack. Used to live in a third-world country and I remember watching this movie on a pirated DVD lol... Family moved to the States a few years later. Started high school there and I remember this one afternoon, walking back home after being dropped off at the entrance of the condominium and I kid you fucking not there was a Blue Eyes Shining Dragon just there in the middle of one of the building's parking lots. It had some wear to it, you could tell some of it was at least in part to the fact that it'd been laying there on the pavement for god knows how long... I immediately picked it up and took it home. It was the real deal. I don't think I'll ever forget that because it was just such a random occurrence. I'd watched the movie but it was a few years back and I'd not really played much YGO since then.
Rare metal dragon was one of the best targets for Hidden Soldiers. There are some other cards that let you swap a monster with a monster of the same level that could use it to dodge tribute summoning. But you're usually better off having an equip card and a 1800atk lv4 monster in your hand instead.
In GOAT format the Sphinxs are actually usable. I play them in a beatdown strategy with Skill Drain and Manticore of Darkness. Skill drain means they wont get popped if Pyramid leaves the field and Manticore can use dead sphinxs in hand as fodder to revive itself. Deck is hella bricky but its fun when it works. Also Reasoning/Monster Gate can cheat them out since their summoning condition isn't a restriction, it's just another way to summon them.
Always loved the look of the sphinxes, used to always try and use andro sphinx in duel generations... I only had one copy of it and one copy of pyramid of light, but man was it fun when it worked. I did not know inferno tempest was from this set. That thing was my favorite awful gren maju jank. Return from a different dimension too? Damn...
In the Manga Monster Masume, there is a newer chapter where our main character has to play a duel against a mummy. In it, the mummy summons things like blue eyes and attacks directly, causing the main character to use Tempest, clear her last blue eyes, and win the game. I say all this to say that even today, even in a comic, everyone loves seeing tempest work. ^^
I got super lucky with the movie cards. My local theater had the movie run but it was not super popular. When the run was done, they had 30-40 of those packs left over. My grandmother worked there and asked if she could give them to me, and they let her. I had a full playset of all of the cards and then some. It made me immensely popular with other friends of mine who also played when I gave them my extra copies! I later built a pyramid of light deck for fun. It is one of the few Yu-gi-oh decks I still own!
Sorcerer of Dark Magic was my favorite of the bunch. You just needed two Dark Magician Girls to summon it. It felt like an evolution for Dark Magician at the time and could have been Yugi's nee boss monster going forward. Imagine a protag that has a 3000 attack monster 😮 I wish the anime played with this idea.
My brother and I managed to get all of the Pyramid of Light cards when we were kids.. except for the Blue Eyes Shining Dragon, my favorite monster. It wasn’t until a few years ago where my bf told me someone he knew gave him this huge deck of Yu-Gi-Oh cards and I wanted to check them out… only to see that the deck had the Blue Eyes Shining Dragon. My bf gave me the deck to keep (since he doesn’t like Yu-Gi-Oh), and I was beyond happy to finally have my favorite
I'd be interested to see more videos about your memories playing with friends as a kid. Ofc there's videos already but there's ways to take a fresh look at it. Maybe specific packs or structures that your friend group was excited for and why, memorable cards that saw play you never saw anyone else use, weird strategies, etc. I don't know why but I always find it fascinating to hear about memories like that. Personally though I had Starter Deck Joey as a kid none of my friends were into it so I stuck to the video games to engage with the game
The case of shining dragon is funny to me because of the whole "You need Blue Eyes Ultimate to summon it, but Blue Eyes Ultimate wasn't actually out at the time" thing.
Well, with these 11 cards being discussed, I think there are finally at least 40. Enough for a Why Nobody Plays Structure Deck. I feel like making it in Master Duel and trying to climb the ladder with it.
I feel like Blue Eyes Shining Dragon was the first time I ever _really_ took notice of the konami orbs, probably because those weren't a part of the Blue Eyes look before. BE Shining Dragon, and later RE Darkness Dragon that is clearly a counterpart to it (which hilariously dodged the orbs by making them diamonds), were both really cool designs and ideas imo, though it did always strike me as odd how they lost their arms during the upgrade (as well as two heads in BE's case). Shining was a remarkable departure from OG Blue Eyes given how closely Ultimate Dragon and Master Knight had stuck to the original design, though the paladin's white dragon does look like a different dragon entirely. It really stood out, and the faintly mechanical look to it's joints for me at least vaguely brings Ra to mind, appropriately given this was supposed to be the Blue Eyes form to rival the Gods. It's a shame how BE was literally unplayable then barely worth it by the time it could be summoned, and RE really needed to do something since it's just normal Red Eyes but conditionally bigger.
I got a Watapon. I was a bit sad and my mom saw so she asked the dude if I could get another one and he gave me like 10 more packs 😢I still got all the cards 😊
Sorcerer of Dark magic could be good in the modern game in decks like Endymion and modern dark magician decks that can turbo out level 6 or higher Spellcasters to meet requirement. On the subject of rare metal dragon, it's effect lends itself to more modern style plays as alongside cards such as Goblindbergh and Kagetokage it could instantly set up a rank 4 xyz summon that requires 3 materials or you could use marauding captain to summon it and have a beefy defensive line as you'd have a warrior that is the only thing that could be attacked that also works great with equip spells and a powerful level 4 dragon. It also makes good link or fusion material using some of the above methods, most of these cards ironically just needed time to move ahead a bit to see some actual viable usability.
I got The Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon from a pack when I went to see the movie in theaters. I had a Kaiba deck and I always tried to play it in the deck the moment I got Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon from a Shonen Jump magazine. It was almost impossible to summon though and 99% of the time it was a brick but when I did manage to summon it it was awesome. My little sister got Watapon.
I had Sphinx Teleia ! I loved the movie as a child so Teleia was one of my most precious cards in my collection. You've just hit right in the nostalgia !
I’ve heard of Inferno Tempest. In the manga Monster Musume there was a mummy monster girl who played with a deck full of monsters. The MC used it on her after crashing his Ash Blossom into her 3K attack monster.
I remember a theater near where I live having half a box of them left when the time came to pull the movie from their listings. A box that was slated to be disposed of or given away. (From what they told me, legally they couldn't sell them, seeing as they were given to them as promotionals for the movie.) I'd never had a chance to see the movie, due to the times it played, and the distance I would have had to travel, so, upon learning they were giving them away, I talked to one of the employees about them. They promptly handed me eight packs. (The max they were allowed to give away by their managers.) I got two Blue-Eyes Shining Dragons, a Pyramid of Light, two Sorcerers of Dark Magic and three Watapon.
I remember going and seeing this movie with my parents and my brother. I have a Pyramid of Light, Sorcerer of Dark Magic, Familiar Knight, and Peten the Dark Clown in my collection because my parents and my brother ended up just giving me the cards they got from their ticket purchase. I remember when this movie came out I was 7 and I didn't fully know how to play, so I more or less just collected Yugioh and Pokemon cards back then. I have a lot of fond memories of this. I remember I always wanted Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon super badly.
I saw this movie with my Uncle when I was visiting in Florida. Especially back then, where we were there were barely any kids around. When the person at the ticket counter saw an actual kid we got like a stack of card packs since the theater had received way more than they needed.

Back around 2010 I had moved out to Arizona, and I came across a grocery store that had a lot of these in their vending machine for a dollar. Now I had started playing yugioh in 2004 so those cards were a bit nostalgic for me. I knew they were bad cards but well, I ended up spending like 100 bucks on that vending machine. lol I bought every single one they had and kept going back until they ran out of stock! XD lol
Sorcerer of Dark Magic feels a lot easier now. With all the Dark Magician support you can easily get it out like with Eternal Soul, Ebon High Magician, Magician Navigation, etc. It’s pretty comforting to have to prevent Trap Cards from activating.
I had a Sphinx deck as a kid and I remember one day at my cousin's house, I managed to summon Theinen. It was so exciting. I had never done it before. My cousin used a lockdown strategy with Jinzo and Hades and I almost never won. But this game he had no monsters on the field and I had my ace monster ready. I paid the cost. Pumped the attack to 6500. And got hit with Magic Cylinder for game. I gave up on the Sphinxes after that.
I had the Ancient Gear Dragon and the Super Conductor Tyranno when I was a kid, no matter how good they were in reality, those cards were incredible in my head
I use the sphinx trio in my D.D. deck, they typically are used right before I would bring out gandora, to wipe the field and have two big monsters out. It doesn't work well today, but back when I was in high school, it was pretty good. With the support I gave them.
Although from across the pond, I have played those cards. Blue Eyes Shining Dragon is a staple of my Blue Eyes. Gets the opposition riled when they only have specific target! Also, Sleifer the Sky Dragon. Also, The Wing Dragon of Rah!
I used to use the Sphinxes and Puramid of Light in my old randomized deck. Best moment was dueling a friend of mine at Job Corps, who used a dragon deck. She managed to get 5 Headed Dragon on the field and nearly won. I'd played PoL the turn before and on my next, I'd drawn Mystical Space Typhoon. Used Andro and Teleia's effects to summon them, used MST to destroy POL, sacrificed 500 LP to summon Theinen, sacrificed another 500 LP to gain the 3k attack and destroyed her 5HD. She didnt have anything else that could compete with him, and I beat her on my next turn 😂
huh, I remember putting a Sorcerer of Dark Magic in my Dark Magician deck on YGOPro back in the day, it was an interesting gimmick. As Magician's Navigation could bring out the requirements easily, while also proccing Dark Magic Circle, and unlik Jinzo, we could choose wether to take outa trap on activation or not, so we could use it alongside stuff like Magician's Navigation and Eternal Soul. (Also, havng a Dark Magician in the graveyard when we have both Eternal Soul and Dark Magic Circle on the field is pretty handy, for a "free" banish on the opponent's turn alongside what we do on ours.) Also any other traps you might want to put in that deck had the benefit, that you could choose not to activate the Sorcerer's effect, so you traps worked, your opponent's traps didn't. Mirror force for example was another funny card that not many people expected, so was Magic Cylinder, but I only put those in for 1-2 duels even when I used them, as they were only useful in a few rather specific matchups against a few friends that I played with a lot. Let's just say, that returning a fully powered up Ra's attack with Magic Cylinder is one of my favourite ways of winning to this day. Still it worked nicely against stuff like Slifer too. Too bad that Obelisk had targeting protection, didn't work against that one. For that, there was still Mirror Force.
I actually did rock Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon in the middle school cafeteria back in the day. I was the only kid around that could play it in duels cuz I was the only one with a Cyber Stein which made actually summoning Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon feasible.
I had a defense rock themed deck that was all about flipping cards up, there was some good non-movie sphinxs that I used so i threw in the movie sphinxs to surprise what the opponent was expecting, but I never used pyramid of light, I had enough power level special summons that the odd tribute wasn't a painful cost
My parents used to by my siblings and I this 52 card deck of cards with YuGiOh monsters and pictures on it at the dollar store. Basically every time we went. It was not until they bought the Pyramid of Light movie, which had a copy of The Pyramid Of Light in it, that we learned there were more cards out there. And wanted them.
When I was a kid, my uncle worked at the cinema In Austria and during that time that Yu-gi-oh movie came out and my uncle got from other people he worked with a medium box full of Yu-gi-oh packs, they were all original cards and only 4 different cards were inside but large number of them, Watapon, Pyramid of Light, Sorcerer of Dark Magic or whatever he is called and Blue-eyes shining dragon, they were all on German language, so I exchanged them with my friends for other cards

@@nmr7203 Screw the rules they have money
I had a Japanese Ultimate Blue-Eyes when Shining came out, and because of that I was probably the only one in my group who could use the damn thing.
@ryanhoule4415 I had the fake PG-03 Blue Eyes Ultimate dragon card. Still have it as a fun reminder, but of course I have the actual card now.
@@nmr7203 they cheated lol
Fun fact, Sorcerer of Dark Magic has reversed atk/def of Dark Sage
another funfact, sorcerer of dark magic art were taken from manga panel in which mahad summoned (now in adult form) his ka against bakura inside pharaoh fake tomb
I think that’s actually one of my favorite Dark Magician archetype fun facts
That was a pretty “DARK” fact!
My wife found a card tin at goodwill for a 1$, had sorcerer in the pile of sleeves, it’s stays in my side deck for her ✌️
@@satyayana1399 Didn't Mahad die in the Illusion Magician's Outfit becoming the Dark Magician?
I absolutely adored the Sphinxes from this movie as a kid but DAMN are they unplayable
Despite being the one no one wanted, Watapon was and can currently be used in an entirely NR FTK in Master Duel through use of Tethys, Goddess of Light
Decklist?
I did beat the first Tag Force game with a Pyramid of Light deck, not even knowing it was a movie card. Poping the trap with my own MST during the battle phase and going for game with Theniem seemed like such a busted strategy for me back then, and surviving long enough to set it up was easy enough in the game. I really wish they make a retrain of those cards one day.
Honestly these cards need retrains. I would love it if one of the legendary sets actually did something with Anubis and his Sphinx monsters
Maybe making pyramid of light a field spell like it should be
Next duelist pack is LIGHT attribute so fingers crossed
I would love a sphinx archetype. Not to mention all the other cards.
Especially Blue Eyes Shining Dragon it’s summoning requirement effectively ensures no one would use it unless they *really* wanted to
@dayvonlouis5187 Odd, considering Red-Eyes Darkness variants are.....well not common, but at least it had some, Shining Dragon was just forgotten.
I used to use pyramid of light and the sphinxes for a lvl10 XYZ deck back in the day. Was pretty effective, in the right build!
Oh yeah, they can’t attack but they can be used as material for other summonings… though they can’t trigger Thienen if they are tributed.
Missed these kind of videos, glad to see them back 🤩.
Sorcerer of dark magic could target a monster on the field and lower its attack for each spellcaster in the gy
Pyramid of light destroyed amd banished any god cards on the field.
I get that the gods werent released so pyramid of light couldnt have the anime effect, but the other two had no excuse.
When Gagaga Magician came out Sorcerer of Dark Magic became a lot easier to summon I remember a few of my friends that played that for a little bit.
Gagaga is my buddy
Reminded me of the Pokémon Rhyhorn. So yeah, I still love my copy.
Why would skill drain protect them from being popped...?
I remember someone actually played Thenien in a locals once (Back in like 2005). He looked smug until he swung right into my Sakaretsu Armor.
I love how the description of the Pyramid of Light anime counter part is sooo specific
*All God Cards on the field are removed from the play.* LOL
Always loved the look of the sphinxes, used to always try and use andro sphinx in duel generations... I only had one copy of it and one copy of pyramid of light, but man was it fun when it worked.
I did not know inferno tempest was from this set. That thing was my favorite awful gren maju jank.
Return from a different dimension too? Damn...
I miss these types of videos glad to see you sprinkle them in every now and then
In the Manga Monster Masume, there is a newer chapter where our main character has to play a duel against a mummy.
I pulled Shining Dragon too, and my family managed to pull the other 3 cards in their packs
I don't know why they didn't just give Theinen 35,000 ATK, they bothered to make Armityle after all
My brother and I managed to get all of the Pyramid of Light cards when we were kids.. except for the Blue Eyes Shining Dragon, my favorite monster.
I played all of them as a kid…illegally of course cause you know, we as kids made our own rules 🤣
Facts 😂😂
I'd be interested to see more videos about your memories playing with friends as a kid. Ofc there's videos already but there's ways to take a fresh look at it. Maybe specific packs or structures that your friend group was excited for and why, memorable cards that saw play you never saw anyone else use, weird strategies, etc. I don't know why but I always find it fascinating to hear about memories like that. Personally though I had Starter Deck Joey as a kid none of my friends were into it so I stuck to the video games to engage with the game
Same, I don't have such a elaborate explanation, but I'm just a sucker for nostalgia
Dzeeff throwback to get one of these videos! I missed the more scripted content.
I miss this “why nobody” series keep’em coming please! 🙏🏽
Gotta admit...... when you legit summon Blue Eyes Shining Dragon you felt like a badass.
The case of shining dragon is funny to me because of the whole "You need Blue Eyes Ultimate to summon it, but Blue Eyes Ultimate wasn't actually out at the time" thing.
Loved the sphinx cards as a kid
Blue eyes shining dragon predating blue eyes ultimate dragon by TWO YEARS must be one of the biggest Mandela effects in yugioh history
Ah hell yeah, cards I actually don't know and can learn new information!
I always loved the art on Rare Metal Dragon 💎
Fan brick decks disagree.
😂😂😂 why can't my fan anime deck be any good lol😂😂😂
Even if most of these cards are pretty much unplayable, i still love that i have them. They are my childhood.
Watapon is the best card
I remember going to the movie the ticket lady gave me a bunch of packs so I could get all the cards, what a blessed soul.
Well, with these 11 cards being discussed, I think there are finally at least 40. Enough for a Why Nobody Plays Structure Deck. I feel like making it in Master Duel and trying to climb the ladder with it.
Who hurt you??
Sorcerer of Dark Magic was so cool when I first saw the movie. I just wish it had its movie effect and an easier summoning condition.
I’ve heard of Inferno Tempest. In the manga Monster Musume there was a mummy monster girl who played with a deck full of monsters. The MC used it on her after crashing his Ash Blossom into her 3K attack monster.
One thing about the Sphinx's is that you can use them with the Mound of the Bound Creator to give them protection since they are all level 10.
Yknow, the thing i like most about early yugioh, is how nearly EVERYONE seemed to have the same playground/friend experience with it lol
I still have a bunch of these unopened from when I worked at the theater when this came out. Are they worth anything?
Oh man, this brings backs memories. I loved the sphinxes as a kid, even though they were lack luster even back then.
I still run the blue eyes shining dragon in my deck. I don't care if its mediocre, i love it
I saw this movie with my Uncle when I was visiting in Florida. Especially back then, where we were there were barely any kids around. When the person at the ticket counter saw an actual kid we got like a stack of card packs since the theater had received way more than they needed.
"Pay half of your Life Points. Special summon as many monsters as possible from your banishment. During the end phase, banish all monsters that were Special Summoned by this effect."
....okay I admit it, I built a Melffy Sphinx deck in master duel that used the movie Sphinx cards...it worked and I made like 2 videos on em a long time ago
I run Sorcerer of Dark Magic in my Gagaga deck as a meme card
familiar knight can be useful in bistro butcher exodia combo:
-switch control of bistro butcher to your opponent
-use mystic tomato and similar cards
-at some point you can decide to summon familiar knight and continue battling
I use Blue Eyes Shinning Dragon . It's my favorite dragon from Kaiba
Bro Inferno Tempest is so easy to pull off xd and its always fun with Necrofaces and dynamite
Back around 2010 I had moved out to Arizona, and I came across a grocery store that had a lot of these in their vending machine for a dollar.
Now I had started playing yugioh in 2004 so those cards were a bit nostalgic for me. I knew they were bad cards but well, I ended up spending like 100 bucks on that vending machine. lol
I bought every single one they had and kept going back until they ran out of stock!
I forgot about so many of these cards. Seeing the art brings back good memories.
Had a friend who got Watapon. He looked so sad. :(
huh, I remember putting a Sorcerer of Dark Magic in my Dark Magician deck on YGOPro back in the day, it was an interesting gimmick. As Magician's Navigation could bring out the requirements easily, while also proccing Dark Magic Circle, and unlik Jinzo, we could choose wether to take outa trap on activation or not, so we could use it alongside stuff like Magician's Navigation and Eternal Soul. (Also, havng a Dark Magician in the graveyard when we have both Eternal Soul and Dark Magic Circle on the field is pretty handy, for a "free" banish on the opponent's turn alongside what we do on ours.)
Also any other traps you might want to put in that deck had the benefit, that you could choose not to activate the Sorcerer's effect, so you traps worked, your opponent's traps didn't.
I still have Shining Dragon in my BE Deck just for the once-in-a-blue-moon moment where I can actually use it for fun.
My first deck that I ever built was built around the Sorcerer of Dark Magic. I miss being a kid some days.
