@@mymetallicarulez You are correct in terms of the real world card game, but here in the movie. they were called God cards, so I went with that as to what the card would say in the movie. But yeah, you're right.
I find it funny that the real life Pyramid of Light has nothing at all to do with the god cards. I mean, most real-life effects are altered for balance, but this card is completely different.
It's because when this movie was made they had no plans of making legal versions of the god cards so it didn't make sense to release a card that counters something that doesn't exist. It took them like 8 years to change their minds.
To be fair it was the right call. Pyramid of Light would've been useless on anything that wasn't a God Card which isn''t really a popular choice to roll with.
Because legally in America you can't put real life game merch in shows or else its considered a commercial/advertising - even tho that's basically what it is

I'm really surprised Kaiba would use mill strategies at all... Winning via deck-out feels like something he would look down on as winning by technicality.
I mean, Kaiba's whole thing is about overwhelming people with power. He has cards like Crush Card and Virus Canon to destroy high power monsters and spell cards. The duel is non-canon, but making people squirm by destroying their deck is in his character.

14:31 there's one card that Yugi could draw and survive or win in that turn. It's a card of sanctity, the anime effect lets you and your opponent draw until both of you have 6 cards in hand, so he can use it and use an exchange to swap whatever Kaiba just draws.
@@breakfaith3031 one year latter but, the three egyptian gods have to go to the graveyard because of been special summoned by return of different dimension, so if yugi draw card of sanctity , he could win.
Pretty sure he either couldn't activate Card of Sanctity or if he did use it he would just lose the duel then and there. He had like what, 1 or 2 cards left in his deck at that point?
Kaiba was about to beat yugi/Atem really, he had 6 dragon type in the graveyard making Shining Dragon had 4800 ATK instead of 4500 but Takahashi might want fans to forget it for the error, that Trap card Pyramid of Light was extremely Op by removing all God Cards from play and it makes sense that B.E. Shining Dragon was to beat the God cards since it said Blue Eyes is rival to the God cards and Card Destruction Virus too is OP Edited: Magician's Valkyria is hot in this movie
But Kaiba cheated already with Peten and Deck Destruction Virus. The description in the movie reads it only activates when a dark fiend type gets destroyed. It's around 8:00 minute mark. And if you look back at Kaiba's opening hand, Peten is a spellcaster. So, it shouldn't trigger the effect.
With Shining Dragon being immune to effects, I'd say that protects it from Slifer's second mouth ability (which, considering the amount of cards burned to summon a 3 tribute monster, it would depend on until one's hand could be replenished), as well as Ra's phoenix form. The attack gain from dragons in the graveyard would allow it to top Obelisk. So, in all, I'd say that it does it's job pretty well.
Kaiba: "I activate Return from the Different Dimension, bringing back all of your Egyptian God cards to my side of the field!" Yugi: "That's not how the card works Kaiba..." Kaiba: "Oh..." Yugi: "Kaiba, don't you da-" Kaiba: "SCREW THE RULES, I HAVE MONEY!"
It's kinda funny how Kaiba allowing Slifer to take the field to lead into his strategy to defeat the Gods is similar to how Yugi keeps Slifer on the field so he could use its ability to help him defeat all three Egyptian Gods.

But odds are I think he'd go with the sacrifice both for Obelisk, since Obelisk was *his* god card and he knows exactly what it can do.
Actually that effect wasn’t added until GX it’s a retcon. Atem could have won here with some random new card with a grave effect that negates effect damage. God cards go away due to being special summoned. Kaiba has a dead draw, Atem uses reborn for game. They’d never let him lose lol

There's another mistake that I've kind of known about which I imagine most people already know. Deck Destruction Virus can only be activated when a Fiend is destroyed. And Peten is a Spellcaster. So Kaiba could not technically activate it.
I always played yugioh for fun as a kid, but I really enjoyed this video. It was anylitical, but entertaining and not overly complex on stats and "ideal plays". To be honest. I kind of like these duel analysis videos. Where he talks about their best plays and a play by play. Please sir can I have some more. Quality content.
I think Kaiba even could have won an earlier turn during the duel. I remember Anubis was prompting Kaiba to finish the duel as quick as possible but Kaiba didn’t want to because it’s not the way how he wanted to win.
The one thing I so grateful about this movie is that u can finally see the effects on the cards and not just a big giant picture that only showing, levels, and ATK/DEF. :D I really not liked that style in yugioh series coz It always confused my head of how do they know what the card does when it doesnt say anything on the cards? Like when Mirak told Mai "Can u read the text that says on the RA card" Mai be like: "What Text? Huh, I didnt know cards had text in the serie?" Is Ra just exception?
Before learning what the proper cards looked like, I remember thinking they knew the effects or something because the cards came with a manual for each one, lol.
Honestly if kiaba wanted to really win (and had a stacked hand) Turn 1: summon familiar knight. Set the 3 virus cards he has in the deck. Turn 1y: when yugi attacks familiar knight use crush card, virus cannon, and deck destruction virus (chain in reverse order i listed) destroying all the spells and monsters with more then 1500 (i think) attack points. Thats 2/3 then deck destruction triggers taking another 10 cards. Yugi has drawn 6 cards. 7 if he wants until after jacks knight which means. Turn 2: activate graceful charity forcing yugi to draw to 6. Duel.
I feel happy knowing that I got a Blue Eyes Shining Dragon at the movie pack while my brother got a Watapon. But throughout the whole experience my parents decided to ask questions about the show, the cards, the rulings, and who was cheating.
Technicly Kaiba could also just activate Ra effect and Burn Atems Monsters Down. Even tho I am not sure how many Life points he had left... So there are one, maybe 2 duels total. Kaiba legit won against the real Pharao. Edit: About how Kaiba wanted to win... Well.. Its just fitting for him... IT is how this charakter is made. If the Victory isnt the way he want hed probably rather lose again.
I remember trading one of my friends for Sorcerer of Dark Magic way back in the mid 2000s because I thought it was so cool. I had no clue it was a movie exclusive at the time or that there was a new YuGiOh movie where you could get a promo card. Just pure luck and power of friendship. It’s still in my collection but all beat up with smooth white curved edges from all the times I jammed my cards in my pants pockets as a kid without cars sleeves.
@@Scalesthelizardwizard That's...not that far off from (what i presume is) actual history, actually. When the Roman Empire fell, and Medieval Christianity rose in Europe, they (medieval Christians) basically transplanted what they understood from their teachings onto other ideologies. Both to better grasp it and to demonize it. The closest analogue Christianity has to an "underworld" is Hell, so rulers of the underworld, like Hades, would naturally be compared to Satan/the Devil. And while nowadays we know better, these olden ideas do still stick with us in the modern day. Plus, death is scary, so deities associated with death are more easily imagined as malevolent forces.

@@nexusshark Still incorrect, Kaiba went to Pegasus seeking a card against the gods, Pegasus said he did have one in his private collection and had no reason to give it to Kaiba until he bet his three blue-eyes over a duel.
@@willfanofmanyii3751 That's in the dubbed version, which altered the original dialogue. In the japanese version Kaiba went to Pegasus to find a way to give his Blue-Eyes more power. Kaiba knew about the new card because he was observing Pegasus via his information network. Pegasus admits that the card is indeed completed, but wouldn't give it to Kaiba because he doesn't have enough heart. To prove him wrong, Kaiba bets his three Blue-Eyes by ante rule in a duel.
I remember getting a 3 for $15 movie boosters from a port market and getting Watapon, Chaos Sorcerer and Blue Eyes Shining... my older brother was floored laughing.
I do like this analysis, but I do think there's one thing that wasn't considered: With all of Yugi's cards in the Graveyard, he could potentially have some Graveyard effects that could let him win the duel I know in at least one instance he used the card Electromagnetic Turtle, so there's a small precedence for it, not that Turtle would have won him the duel, but it's possible he has something else that could have But either way, Kaiba was totally in control that entire duel, and it is hard to see how Yugi would have won without some powerful new card he had never used before showing up (Also I'm disappointed he tributes the 3 Knights for Slifer, it would have been way more hype to see Arcana Knight Joker)
I think, he didn't have electromagnetic turtle in, since at that time his deck matches to Atem's playstyle. Remember whenever they show Yugi on his own, the playstyle is different because he has different types of cards. (ex: Final Duel). The Arcana Joker might not even be made at this point of events. But wishful to be used.
We have to keep in mind that the problem with dueling against Yugi (Atem) is that he plays with his millennium item, the Millennium Puzzle. In addition to hosting the spirit of the pharaoh, it has the power to change destiny in his favor one way or the other. This is what allows him to win duels with almost impossible odds. This is probably why neither Kaiba nor the duel system accounted the extra dragon card in Kaiba's graveyard, and if Yugi survived with just one card, it would've been the one to turn the entire duel around and win.
The fact alone that he would've won with the first shining attack but they had to take paladin out of the equation just to keep Yugi alive is more than enough for me
If he didn't have Pyramid of Light, Seto wouldn't have let him have the tributes to summon the god cards. He would have just played differently, destroyed the knights, destroyed his deck, and kill him with Ultimate
Movie Shining dragon also had extended protection which can negate card effects that would affect it. In anime this extends to stuff like dark hole etc so it doesnt have to target. You also ignore any other card or effects while applying shining nova which would indeed get rid of any enemy.
6:40 The correct words to follow those 2 statements were "but he's Seto Kaiba." Those words perfectly describe his character! As a side note, I think it would have been cool for them to have Kaiba actually beat Yugi, only to have Anubis say that is was because of him or with his help. It would still be a canon win for Kaiba, but not one that his ego would accept. So he'd still pine after another clean win.
I remember when this movie came out, I had a friend who worked at the theater and was kind enough to snag me like 50 of the promo packs. I got all the cards lol. I also remember being bummed that I couldn’t use shining dragon as ultimate hadn’t been released state side yet
Can we all be honest there NO WAY kaiba would have gotten paladin of white Dragon and the ritual spell card that easily Shenanigans Also this point 11:10 my guess is they just forgot paladin of white Dragon
Kaiba technically did already win the duel long before the interrupt. When Kaiba summoned Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, Yugi had Sorcerer of Dark Magic (3200ATK) but only had 1500 Lifepoints left. In the movie, Kaiba states that Shining Dragon gains 300 for each dragon in his grave and he counts 5 making Shining Dragon stand at 4500. (Blue-Eyes X3, Blue-Eyes Ultimate, and Rare Metal Dragon) However, Kaiba actually had a sixth Dragon in his grave, Paladin of White Dragon. So in actuality, Shining Dragon should've hit the field at 4800Atk and would've been able to defeat Yugi the turn it's summoned.
15:16 That sound like the Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series version. Kaiba "I activate Return from the Different Dimension, To bring back the Egyptian Gods." Yugi "That's not what that card dose." Kaiba double checks card "Dame It."
Yugi has won most of his battles due to making up new cards which are just perfectly what he needs. Those cards are most likely never going to be reused ever again in a duel. One of the best examples being THE ENTIRETY OF SEASON 1.
Uh, I'm pretty sure EVERYONE made up effects in the entirety of Season 1, including Kaiba and Joey, and don't even get me started with the Paradox Brothers and that may be because the official rules weren't created yet. Yugi wasn't the only one, yet only he gets criticized for it.
yugi was the one who kept doing the most bs things, my attack is lower f that your monster is now mine and he'll attack you or destroying his own cards by not using actual cards but ordering his monster to do so, suck it loser Mind crush! Paradox Brothers were on par if not worse at cheating but yugi's heart of the cards was an absolute broken move.
@@MemeL0rd13 lol his opponents did the same thing first, if not worse. Or explain to me how is Mako able to use Yugi's moon card, that is exclusively meant for Silver Fang, to control the tides to his favor and have that remain that way for the entire duel when the moon card should have left the field on the next turn? Or the fact that despite that Yugi can't attack his monsters that are face up because the ocean is able to conceal them? Mako can do all that, but when Yugi does something similar, he gets called out for it? Does that sound fair to you? And Panik also did something similar with hiding his monsters in the darkness, apart from the fact that he tried to kill Yugi with flamethrowers. And not just Yugi's opponents, but other main characters like Joey as seen how he utilizes Flame swordsman, Copycat, Time Wizard, and Baby Dragon throughout the series. In conclusion, EVERYONE did. But its clear you only diss Yugi because if your own biased opinion about him.
I'm not dissing yugi, it's just that the opponents or even other main characters play cheap to win while yugi straight up denies others of victory by just being the main character. Yugi has only one actual loss where as the other main characters who cheat still get losses every now and then. Now that I think about it, yugi's not op sorry it's the ancient Egyptian pharaoh yami that's op.
@@MemeL0rd13 but the pharaoh loss to Yugi and that was the test. To see if he was willing to receive and accept a true defeat in order to move on into the afterlife, proving he's just as human as everyone else and not as OP as people think. The thing people are forgetting about this duel is the previos simulation that didn’t have the Pyramid of Light. Kaiba probably already knows the better plays he could’ve make in this duel, especially in the beginning, but he also knows these plays would be worthless thanks to the simulation. And it is highly likely that he has done various other simulations previously. So for Kaiba, the “ultimate victory” of summoning the Egyptian Gods was one of the ONLY ways Kaiba could’ve won the duel (Deck Destruction Virus may be another win condition, based on the last simulation with the Pyramid of Light)
I wasn't too upset about getting Watapon. The only card I did want was the Pyramid of Light. I eventually found a copy... abandoned on the sidewalk near my school when I was walking home years ago.(it was about 3 months after the movie came out in theaters) It looked like it had been stepped on at least a couple of times, but I could still use it in a card sleeve.
I think someone was on some crazy drugs when making the promotional cards for the movies. "Alright, we got this badass ultimate dragon-killing sorcerer, a god-killing shining dragon, and an anti-god pyramid trap, but we need one more to round it out. Anyone got ideas?" "...Cottonball..."
This randomly played because of Auto play while I was playing MC BR (Minecraft Battle Royale) and I just let this play and actually was very interested. Noice :)

I find it funny that the real life Pyramid of Light has nothing at all to do with the god cards. I mean, most real-life effects are altered for balance, but this card is completely different.
It was probably the right choice, considering they decided to not make anything a godcard in the real game, minus the original 4.

I'm really surprised Kaiba would use mill strategies at all... Winning via deck-out feels like something he would look down on as winning by technicality.

14:31 there's one card that Yugi could draw and survive or win in that turn. It's a card of sanctity, the anime effect lets you and your opponent draw until both of you have 6 cards in hand, so he can use it and use an exchange to swap whatever Kaiba just draws.
That also would have given kaiba a 6000 ATK slifer that will also cripple anything yugi tries to summon

There's another mistake that I've kind of known about which I imagine most people already know. Deck Destruction Virus can only be activated when a Fiend is destroyed. And Peten is a Spellcaster. So Kaiba could not technically activate it.
The card only says fiend in the English version. In the Japanese version you only need a dark monster.
You forgot one more detail on return from a different dimension. It’s effect only lasts until the end phase of the turn it’s played.

Either way, Kaiba would just use Obelisk's effect or Ra's effect, which can get him the win in that one turn.

Honestly if kiaba wanted to really win (and had a stacked hand)
Turn 1: summon familiar knight.

I do like this analysis, but I do think there's one thing that wasn't considered: With all of Yugi's cards in the Graveyard, he could potentially have some Graveyard effects that could let him win the duel
I know in at least one instance he used the card Electromagnetic Turtle, so there's a small precedence for it, not that Turtle would have won him the duel, but it's possible he has something else that could have
But either way, Kaiba was totally in control that entire duel, and it is hard to see how Yugi would have won without some powerful new card he had never used before showing up
(Also I'm disappointed he tributes the 3 Knights for Slifer, it would have been way more hype to see Arcana Knight Joker)
This is probably why neither Kaiba nor the duel system accounted the extra dragon card in Kaiba's graveyard, and if Yugi survived with just one card, it would've been the one to turn the entire duel around and win.
the only thing i dont like its the "cheat" of paladin of white dragon not counting for blue eyes shining
And deck destruction only works with fiend monsters peten the dark clown is a spellcaster
Kaiba won the duel, but lost to himself and plot convenience.
I think we can agree that the best part of the movie is when Anubis chanted ''the lemur we want milk'' at the moment Kaiba activated Pyramid of Light.
Seto haven't notice anubis is manipulating him in great danger during the duel.
The fact alone that he would've won with the first shining attack but they had to take paladin out of the equation just to keep Yugi alive is more than enough for me
They also made a complete acception to Obelisk ability. Pyramid of life, even if it targets all the God cards, Obelisk wouldn't be affected
