Two amendments: Akiza’s Psychic Powers we’re amplified by her signer mark and not where she got them from. Black Rose Dragon was not released IRL until later in the series. And that is why so much shenanigans happens in the 1st duel.
I agree. Being able to decide when the 1° effect, which in tcg would be written as a QUICK EFFECT, It is almost Buster, só I am kinda glad that this wasnt a thing.
To be fair it’s always like that the first couple episodes lmao. You cannot tell me jaden and Yuma using flame wingman/utopia wasn’t the usual game ender until they started using better cards lol
@@sean1oo1 I mean after the second duel Jaden has against Chazz, he starts using the other E Hero fusions fairly regularly as early as Episode 3 iirc(Thunder Giant vs Alexis) and Yuma, after getting called out on it by Bronk, tends to only use Utopia in duels involving Number Monsters, otherwise he relies on the GaGaGas and Musical Djinns. Compared to Yusei the two of them just have more varied plays, I'm 95% sure in the first 10 episode of 5D's Yusei literally has the same duel with Trudge twice.
@@TheWizardMus before the fortune cup they dueled 3 times, the first episode, when Yusei escaped from Satelite and then after the prision while Yusei tries to get his bike back.
If the actual card kept its second effect the way it is like in season one of 5D's, maybe it would see more use. Well, at least in plant synchro decks, that is.
@@Evil_Beauty yeah its so weird, every other signer dragon is generic in its effects. So idk why BRD is the only one that says “no this effect? ONLY for the plant boys.”
@@caswellweird because it's supposed to be a bonus for playing it within its archetype (this way people don't just spam this card in every deck when it was released)
@@sqfzerzefsdf Isn't that kind of pointless when other cards with strong effects are more generic and therefore spammed? Literally Stardust is more generic and thrown into different decks
@@ALittleMessi Well, until Akiza, no one really played with Plant-type monsters. They were an oddity in the game. But after Akiza and Black Rose Dragon came out, Plants have become a type to be reckoned with. Sure, not as good as Dragons or Warriors or even some Spellcasters, but you shouldn't underestimate the Plants. And Black Rose Dragon still gets spammed in a lot of Decks. It's a great card today, and it was a powerhouse back then. It's just that people use it to nuke the field when the deck isn't built around it.
The duel was sorta poetic, Blackrose dragon wanting to destroy itself and everything around (representing Akiza) whilst stardust dragon will sacrifice itself to prevent destruction kinda like yusei. Towards the end stardust dragon manages to successfully stop black rose dragon from destroying itself. (Yusei saving akiza)
@@sasir2013 All the time The the whole premises of his character, while not exactly sacrifices, but he's selfless and help others alot. You can check out TGS Signer Dragon video, I think he went into more detail about each dragon and the owner.
Ultimately, its why i LOVE this game. The cards arent just cards, they have their own personalities that are reflected through their abilities; What a card does says something about its own nature AND combined with other cards, they tell a story. And hers's the kicker, because of this fact, whatever cards YOU choose to have in your deck also says alot about YOUR nature and personality as a person.
@@Zetaforce-uv8el and Yuma’s life points hits 25 in his Duel with Vector and constantly gets mocked (the latter he deserves, mostly), Jaden had a Superpowered Evil Side that committed mass murder in the name of justice, Yuya and his counterparts are cosmic toys for the four dimensions and Zarc and Yusaku was tortured for a good majority of his childhood.
And yet she doesn’t, probably because she remembers that one time it won her a tough duel whenever she’s modifying her deck. Or maybe I’m just projecting about my Mirror of Oaths+Magician’s Circle combo. 😅
@@chrisdonovan9872 It doesn't really work well with the Rose Mark card either. Each time Rose Mark takes back control, YOU take damage. Obviously this wouldn't happen the first time since you'd equip Rose Mark before Vengeful Servant, but the monster will then bounce back and forth each time. It's much better used for an OTK strategy where you buff a monster of your own to 8000+ ATK (4000+ in the anime) and Shien's Spy it away or something.
I think the general consensus among fans is that’s their first duel is better and one of 5DS best. While I can certainly see that, I personally think the rematch is better and even more emotionally taxing. Seriously throughout that their rematch episodes, I was internally dying of how sad Akiza’s backstory was. I mean it’s downright depressing. Plus, Kenichi Hara’s animation is stellar as always. If there’s one thing I have to nitpick is that Akiza might have forgiven her dad too easily. Don’t get me wrong, I love this duel from a character perspective and duel entertainment obviously but still.
Well, I, for one, loved both her duels. It's just a shame some sexist pig ruined her character and nerfed all her good cards in the later seasons of the show...
Granted I’ve only watched the English dub so I don’t know exactly if her relationship with her parents was any worse. But I got the vibe that while she had her problems with her parents she also didn’t want them to die, and I got the feeling it was the first step into patching things up.
It's not due to her signer mark, she naturally has psychic powers, they're not tied to the mark. So due to her psychic powers, Yusei is taking real damage when her monsters hit him
Aki's smile after being freed is just so pure beauty. Though I think the smile she has when she's "enjoying" inflicting damage is a result of Sayer's mental manipulation. Also, this Duel is one of the best example as to why 5Ds is one of, if not, the best Yu-Gi-Oh! series.
How the creators somehow remain willfully blind to how much SHE is a key part of the appeal of 5D's - beyond her appearance... - is further beyond me than Cosmic Blazar Dragon can fly.
@@christopherb501 Agreed. After the Singer Arc, She's mostly relegated to the sidelines. Correct me if I'm wrong but she didn't even Duel an Emperor of Iliaster (I don't count Sherry because she's kinda just meant to be a stand-in for Paradox) and the notable Duel she had is with Andre (who I still wished she at least tied).
Sayer did save her life in that one Dark Signer duel, though. That is the only good thing he did the whole series before being consumed by the Earthbound Immortals.
@@michaelaburns734 That statement can be read in 2 different ways…and while I agree he’s one of the best characters that we’ve seen so far, I think Akiza has the honor of actually dating him. 😂😂😂 That’s my head canon at least.
I'm pretty sure early on Black Rose Dragon's effect did allow her to turn a monster's attack to 0 even if they were in attack position. She used it against the knight guy voiced by Kaiba. The series' monster effects sort of varied like that early on in the show, like how Junk Warrior would absorb the attack of level 2 or lower monsters even after it was summoned, until later when they solidified them to be like the actual cards, or at least to have consistent effects within the show.
If Yusei had his Urgent Tuning face down, Yusei could’ve attacked Black Rose Dragon with the 3200 ATK Junk Warrior then use Urgent Tuning to summon Stardust Dragon and try to attack directly. Akiza would’ve used Wicked Rebirth and try to wipe the field, but Yusei would use Stardust’s ability just like in the duel. I really enjoy analysis videos with multiple duels as they really encapsulate the journey the duelist have been on from their first to last Suggestions: Jaden vs Chazz (4) Yusei vs Jack (3) Yuma/Astral vs Kite (3) Yuya vs Declan (3) Playmaker vs Varis (4)
@@Shantae1188 I am suggesting videos where the characters duelled more than once - the numbers correspond to the number of the duels - 3 and 4 might be a bit much but some were quite quick
@@SpecsTube Speaking for Jaden vs. Chazz because I've seen more comments on it, Chazz threw their last duel because of outside reasons but should've won. That'd be pretty interesting to see since he has a lot more growth than Jaden throughout the series.
I would love to see a sora vs shay duel from Arc V, it's a series which hasn't been covered yet and one of the iconic early duels as well as not containing the main character
In the first duel since Black Rose Dragon hadn't had an official release yet the anime had different effects those being destroy all cards on the field when Special summoned and reduce one monster on the fields attack to zero. After this when they released the card they decided that was too strong and changed it to destroy all when Synchro summoned and switch a defense position monster to attack and reduce it's attack to zero. The anime then accepted these changes to the card for their second duel.
You do realize Black Rose Dragon was released in the Crossroads of Chaos booster pack the same date it debuted in the anime, right? Both were on July 19, 2008, in Japan (before the rest of the world).
Her signer mark isn't what deals real life damage, it's her psychic powers. If it really were the mark then why is she the only signer that dealt real damage?
While you're right that it's her psychic powers, technically other signers got unique powers from their mark like burning soul for Jack, clear mind for yusei and being able to go to the spirit world for Luna so it's possible she got her psychic powers from her mark (even tho she's not the only person with psychic powers)
@@chendror872 Yusei got clear mind by learning it from Antinoky while Jack got Burning Soul by being a direct descendant of the OG signer that sealed the Crimson Devil, Red Nova.
Stardust is my favourite, but Black Rose would easily be my favourite if it was bipedal like Stardust or Archfiend, or quadrupedal like a regular dragon. Petty I know lol
Lol, if Yusei had just attacked with Junk Warrior instead of summoning Stardust Dragon, he would have won. Junk Warrior with 3200 ATK attacks Black Rose Dragon with 2400 ATK and inflicts 800 damage, leaving Akiza with 2000 life points. Junk Barrage inflicts 1200 damage, leaving her with 800 life points. Then Junk Synchron with 1300 ATK attacks for game. Please analyze Joey's duels with Mai and Valon in the Orichalcos arc.
Well he was trying to open her heart 😏 the 2nd duel and the first he was trying to figure out what the marks were doing. My man was distracted. Pretty obvious why.
doesn't junk warrior's effect only activate when it's first synchro summoned? meaning it's attack value doesn't constantly update. even though yusei brought speed warrior back to the field, junk warrior's attack wouldn't change.
Didn't... he make a bad play on purpose to help her? That was the point and even called out in the anime. If he went with that route he would not have been able to help her (I have not seen the 5D's, just this video so I may be wrong)
Absolutely not if we’re talking their first ever duel against him. He absolutely wiped the floor with them and they make an explicit point of that on the show
@@JJQ666 eh, Astral rarely tends to make misplays as far as I’m aware, and neither he nor Yuma was expecting Kite to be as good as he was, so probably not. That said, it was in the early days of the anime when Yuma tended not to listen to him as much as he should, so maybe the duel would’ve been different if Astral had full control
Hope to see an analysis on Marik vs Mai or Jaden vs Chazz the first interrupted and the Exam duel. Chazz and Mai had moments where they had game over their opponents and blew it.
Chazz deserves more respect tbh - he beat Aster, could've beat Jaden (was forced to throw), and is pretty clearly better than the other people in Jaden's circle. If you add in his wins against throwaway opponents he overall has an incredible record... only TGS ranks him at B tier.
@@perrytran9504 The manga for GX gives him a nearly flawless record. He loses to Jaden in like chapter 3, and he loses to Zane. Beyond that he wins every duel he's in, and even beats Jaden in their rematch, which really took me by surprise. Granted, it was better plot-wise for that, which is likely the only reason Chazz won. Jaden took on one of the antagonists of the arc who defeated his teacher in a shadow duel, and he fought to get her back while Chazz went on to fight Zane. So Chazz had a better win record than Jaden, who lost to Chazz, Aster Phoenix, and a possessed Atticus.
@@kyuubinaruto17 I didn't know this. But the manga for GX may as well be a different universe since the plot is so different from the show and the characters' decks aren't really the same either.
I think it's safe to say that Yusei being pushed in a situation where it looks like he's gonna lose, only for him to make the ultimate comeback is essentially his schtick. I haven't seen 5Ds in a long time, but I do remember many duels he's been in and in almost all of his duels, Yusei also always wins via a comeback.
Yes It happens pretty much every duel in season 1 But that is from luck unlike Yami/Atem who literally cheAts using his magic powers (manga wise, heart of the cards is an actual ability that lets the user Will any card they need into their next draw
@@aceclover758 That was actually only in the anime and he could only do that willingly in the final duel against Yugi, which he still lost. I'd say Blue Girl vs. Soulburner is a worse loss largely because of Soulburner having one of the most situational, yet "perfect" counters for Trickstars with Gate of Fire. Gate of Fire Continuous Trap Activate this card only when a card or effect that would inflict damage is activated. Neither player takes effect damage if the amount is equal to or less than 300. ...like really? What other Deck in VRAINS would this possibly be useful against EXCEPT Trickstars?

7:34 i think the anime version of Black Rose Dragon, battle position is irrelevant. keep in mind that a lot of the time, when they change the card from anime to the TCG, they nerf the effect to make it more fair
I really wish the 5D writers didn't screw Akiza over down the road. Despite being one of the main 5 signers and pretty much the most developed female character in yugioh, she was forgotten about and made into a side character because of Crow and his popular chickens.
@@AceBountyHunterRex the Japanese voice actor that played Carly In 5D was a part of a cult and rumors are after dropping her they wanted to distance themselves from cult imagery.
I think technically, until they changed Black Rose Dragon's effects fit with the TCG very quickly after this duel, the anime effect was originally so Black Rose Dragon could use her point draining effect was still able to work even if the enemy monster was in attack mode, and her field destruction effect could still work when she was special summoned. I may be completely wrong with that and I do apologise if I was incorrect, but I think that's how they played it up until they fixed it in the dark signer arc not too many episodes later. Honestly though, out of the two duels: I've always personally preferred the rematch duel between the two. The first duel, yes, I do still enjoy, but I feel the rematch has more emotional depth and a much better outcome for both Yusei and Akiza respectively, and it also shows how Yusei - technically - was able to put his own mental torment behind for a time with what happened with Kalin and his crash to help out a friend/someone he absolutely cared about, despite his denials to Martha (come on Yusei, you can't fool Martha).
About Black Rose Dragon's effect, I personally thought it was altered to work that way in the anime instead, in fact, we can see a similar thing in their first duel: when Yusei special summoned his Speed Warrior, his Junk Warrior got 900 attack points, even though if we go by it's real life effect, it only gains the attack point boost when it is summoned, meaning that move should also have technically been called out as well. It's not uncommon for them to change certain card effects in the anime to not work like their real world counterparts, and I think this may have been an example of that, but I also cannot think of any other duels off the top of my head where Black Rose Dragon uses either of it's effects this way
I think the writing for 5Ds was great here as they did a good job putting a lot of story and character development into the duel without taking away too much from the duel itself.
Its a shame how they forgot Aki completely in the later seasons, I found her archetype of plants so awesome and flavourful also her deck has a clear and proactive strategy, definetly better than Yusei's boring vanilla warrios and ultra-situational spells and traps. If only they allowed a female like her more screen time and duels, we could have seen so much more awesome plants synergies.
If I remember right, I saw a comment years ago saying the issue was the japanese voice actress being involved in cult stuff. Could be remembering wrong, though.
@@lolface_9363 Ok, my bad, like I said, I was remembering several-year-old information on a show I haven’t seen in forever. If I remember right, though, that issue did have an effect on this character’s story arc basically having to be abandoned.
I really liked how the duels between Yusei and Akiza felt like a mini arc for Akiza and how it all goes down to. She goes from a woman who is angry and willing to follow what Divine says but ultimately wishes to be helped to her not forgiven her parents but then she does, making her finally free as the Black Rose Witch. Just......damn 5Ds did their duels insanely well and that help me by the end of the first duel.......made me tear up I will not lie but in any case, great look at these duels and dragon hug:the best way to help your future psychic girlfriend! Warning may not work against psychic girls who uses fire or any other psychic powers.
I believe that the shenanigans with Black Rose is because the episode was written before the cards were printed. It aired a couple months after the first print of the card but it probably was in production before Black Rose's release and when the effect was shown to be different that they were in a production stage where they couldn't rewrite and reanimate it. We see Junk Warrior gains ATK when Speed Warrior is Special Summoned from the GY when that is also not how that works, which suggests to me that the anime was being produced with versions of the cards that weren't the final release versions.
I've never watched 5Ds , So I appreciate you giving context and backstory than just doing a fuel analysis I appreciate it and it's a very lovely touch to an duo of duels
Akiza is best girl of the entire yugioh franchise. Also it's weird to think how certain duelists would go thru an entire duel without playing one particular card in their hand

I'd love to see "Was Carly about to defeat Jack?" for another 5Ds entry. There's a certain point in the duel that very clearly would and should have changed the result.
There is literally a "What if" fanfic called My Dark King that goes down that exact route and makes Jack become the lead Dark Signer. It's really good, but sadly unfinished.
@@Blitz_Blazer Gods I hate Ono; always overlooking what ACTUALLY makes the shows he oversees work in favor of _really_ bland...I don't know what he's going for with his shilling of Crow and the more two-dimensional riffs on Jack. He's just an idiot.
That was the whole point of Jack playing that card - he put his life in Carly's hands because he trusted "the real her" to make the right decision. Now, that doesn't bar an alternate universe where she _doesn't_ make the right decision...
The 2 duels between Yusei & Akiza were fun to watch and demonstrated the turning point for both 5Ds characters. Akiza found out she can control her psychic powers and still held love for her parents. And Yusei not only saved a person from their pain & misery, but this would motivate him saving Kalin during the *Signers vs Dark Signers* confrontation at the Satellite.
I think they wanted Rose Dragon to use her effect everytime she is special summoned but they thought it was so op they changed it in later episodes, probably.... now when she used her second effect on Junk Warrior while in attack mode it has to be a screw up.
No screw up. She used the same effect on Masked Knight in her first tournament duel. BRD's second effect was legit until some sexist pig took over in writing her character to the ground and nerf all her good cards for NO reason whatsoever...
Hope you do a "team 5ds about to lose against team unicorn taiyo Ragnarok etc" I think it would be super unique to see how a team dual would go with these what ifs and how the outcome would go if someone lost sooner or won sooner

You should add Kaiba vs. Ishizu to your bucket list. Kaiba won because he went off-script, but when I looked at the last two turns Ishizu actually should've been able to if she did so first. So now I wonder how it would've went ignoring any prophecy shenanigans.
I haven't watched the duel in a while, but Kaiba could have won sooner. He only got to the point of losing because he wanted to win in a particular way, notably giving Ishizu an ironic defeat by destroying her with the God Card she gave to him. There was a point where she had 2 monsters on the field before she set Sacrifice's Blast, and Blue-Eyes and Soul Exchange in his hand.
@@kyuubinaruto17 Uhh, the same can literally be said about Ishizu. 😒 Given the fact that she can foresee literally EVERYTHING Seto Kiba was going to do, she TOO, could've won early had she not followed the script in wanting to win a particular way based off the future her millennium necklace let her saw. In fact, Ishizu is the ONLY duelist who could ACTUALLY change fate by flipping the script on her opponents' faces, if only she wasn't too dependent on following the script to the letter.
@@Evil_Beauty If she saw she was going to win, then why would she change the future? It's completely unnecessary. Once Kaiba changed the future she told Yugi the Tauk was losing it's powers and she couldn't see anymore when she gave it to him. Besides, it makes Ishizu way more hardcore. In the manga she says she gave him Obelisk in the first place just to defeat him with it. In her thoughts she even says, "You will lose your life along with Obelisk." Like, damn, she was willing to kill Kaiba just for a chance to save her brother. And she's not just being metaphorical, like she means his life points. She says that when Obelisk explodes all it's power will reflect back at him and "pierce his heart." Dark Marik thought about how his good side had some questions about Kaiba and his connection to the Millenium Rod, but after the duel he wouldn't be around anymore so it doesn't matter.
@@kyuubinaruto17 It's not a matter of WHY would Ishizu change the future if she already foresaw her victory being guaranteed, but a matter as to she CAN, if she wanted to make her victory all the more easier, that is. And that was a missed opportunity that had sailed because of her shortsightedness, let alone overreliance in abusing her millennium necklace's power, instead of her own dueling skills where an easy divergence in optimal play would've already won her the duel. So lemme get this straight, Ishizu's millennium necklace lost its power because of ONE incidental future change? Despite its power having LITERALLY foresaw EVERY possibility, let alone potential outcome up until this point having come to pass? This sounds more like a lousy plot-induced stupidity excuse just to have Seto Kiba vs Atem. Which mind you, was also bound to happen because it was supposed to be preordained by, "destiny", by default. Something I'm sure Ishizu has mentioned somewhere, but correct me if I'm wrong. So, am I wrong to assume that the victory Ishizu foresaw wasn't ALSO preordained as well? Considering EVERYTHING that Ishizu let played out was correct in ALL her necklace's predictions? 😑 And honestly, I'm glad Ishizu had that thought. Considering Seto Kiba's past actions with him forcing an old man to a duel that nearly ended him dead in the hospital, while also selfishly denying Yugi the chance to save his grandpa, he deserves whatever imminent fate Ishizu was going to bring upon him. Seto Kiba was no saint, a not-so-good look he wore so well. Heck, I don't think he would hold back in going all out on Dark Malik, let alone make an attempt in trying to save Ishizu's brother.
Hey TGS, just wanted to say that these duel analysis videos are my most favorite type of videos from your channel! Ended up watching most if not all of the videos in this series and exploring your other videos as well. Keep it up!
I find it funny that you rail on Aki for misusing Black Roses's effects while failing to once mention that Junk Warrior's effect of gaining attack from other Level 2 monsters is only an "On summon" effect in the card game (though tbf Black Rose hadn't been released when the episode aired so they may have specifically nerfed it). Either way, the first Yusei/Aki duel is one of my favorite Yugioh duels. Aki was such a great character and I wish she had a better end-goal than getting benched as much as she did after the Signers arc wrapped. Sidenote, if you ever do an Arc-V duel, I'd be interested in your thoughts on Yuya vs Yuri as there's a few times there where I can see Yuri has game or could do things that later prevent Yuya from winning (namely using Dark Rebellion's materials so Yuya can't use them later).
in the show junk warrior's effect was a continuous effect. around this time konami had a habit of drastically altering effects from their anime counterparts. cards like dark tinker (lost it's draw 1 card effect), attack gainer, lineage of destruction, shooting quasar lost its effect damage negation, monster effect immunity and ability to destroy all monsters on the field and summon shooting star as a synchro summon upon leaving the field and earthbound immortal wiraqocha rasca( by far the most blatant change) just to name a few are such examples.
I can only assume 5d's pulled an anime by altering Black Rose Dragon's effect so it can reduce any monster's ATK, regardless of battle position. She does the same to Sir Randsborg in first round of the tournament, reducing Masked Knight Level 7's 2900 ATK to zero despite it being in Attack mode as well, much like Junk Warrior.
22:45 Wasn't Thorn of Malice only stopping Black Rose from destroying Stardust? So if she used Lord of Poison to attack Stardust, it would've gotten destroyed. She would've dealt the same amount of damage in the end like you said, but Yusei wouldn't have had Stardust to use his Silver Wing Release Restraint combo, and she would've won next turn.
Everyone in the comments talking about Black Rose Dragon, but no one noticed that Wonder Clover *isn't* a Quickplay spell (both irl and in the anime), so Aki couldn't have used it for a second attack when she did. She either illegally used it during her Battle Phase or inexplicably used it in her Main Phase 2 and then illegally attacked anyway.
I never quite understood why exactly they made Black Rose Dragon a fire attribute monster (other than the fact that they seem to print a lot of plant monsters with that attribute, which it is related to), but I can certainly see why Red Dragon Archfiend is dark attribute, given it's called "Red Demon's Dragon" in Japan (and is it just me, or does it's head look kind of similar to Black Skull Dragon?)
@@matthewkuscienko4616 yeah, I get you. However, a lot of fire is involved with RDA but the archfiend and demon part does strongly imply dark. It’s like Red eyes using fire but it’s dark.
Wait, in the first Duel, couldn't Akiza just activate Black Rose Dragons effect to switch Stardust back to attack and attack for game to win, unless the Equip Spell prevents that.
Yeah. She could. I mean... Why not? She did it to Junk Warrior a few turns ago... And again to Masked Warrior during her first tournament duel. The equip magic Prevent Star was only used on Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis to prevent it from suicide attacking into Stardust Dragon, resulting it in burning (no pun intended) Yusei's remaining lps. There were many ways Aki could've won this duel without the need to constantly revive Black Rose Dragon and nuking the field to destroy Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis and burning Yusei's remaining lps. She could've just stalled the duel with Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis being the only monster on the field until she drew Mark of the Black Rose...
It’s just as Yusei stated, Akiza could have beaten him if she wasn’t blinded by her fury and hatred. To quote him: “you would have seen it coming if you weren’t hiding behind that mask”. Even Yusei admits that Akiza could have defeated him if she wasn’t blinded by rage.
@@hassandahab3050 that quote was a dub thing. Yusei never said such a thing in the original Japanese sub. In the original Japanese sub Yusei was trying to get Aki to think for herself and stop relying on others to think for her (she was basically a puppet like Jack), Aki obviously refuses due to the emotional damage it reminded her. Which resulted in throwing off Aki's game and her misplaying A LOT.
I think anime changes are not "illegal move" and more a different anime effect. Clearly Black Rose in anime can destroy all cards on special summon too and can use its atk reduction on monsters in attack mode too.
I agree, they often change the effects of cards in the anime to work a little differently. It can also be seen with Junk Warrior, who in real life only gets the extra attack points added when it's summoned, while in Yusei and Akiza's first duel, it got a boost when Speed Warrior was summoned while it was already in play
Chief among them: Yoshida coming anywhere near something with nuance outside of his preferences. No wait, that's secondary; chief among them is ONO coming near anything with nuance, period.
"So let's just say it's Scrap Iron Scarecrow." My guy, if Yusei has a SIS in his hand, you KNOW he'll play it that turn. It's, like, a fact of life. It's probably something like Card Rotator
Since I feel like we haven't seen a gx analysis in a while I feel like a fun would could be Jim crocodile vs the supreme king or aster vs sartorous both are duels were the main antagonist came super close to loosing to someone who wasn't a main character and it makes you wonder if there were any misplays that could have changed that
12:18 Fun fact: Assault mode Stardust is a killer vs the old Lightsworns for that very reason. It negates and destroys their end phase mill effects one by one. 13:50 Wait. Why can't she used Black Rose's effect to switch SD to attack? Did the effect simply not have that ability at that time? Edit: 10:08 That card has Dark End Dragon on it. 15:20 That card has Light End Dragon on it. It's interesting that they have paired cards like that.
With the more mature nature of 5Ds compared to the other seasons I'm still surprised that they never delved any deeper into the romance between Yusei and Akiza than how they promised to 'meet again' at the end of the series after his final duel with Jack. They're still a better love story than Twilight though. Lol.
I think its just a matter of the Anime Effects bring slightly different. Akiza does later make use of BRD's effect after summoning it from Grave so its likely a matter of just being Special Summoned by any means. Plus the position requirement isn't a huge difference so it should be fine.
My favorite character in the entire Yugioh series. Akiza Izinski. These two duels are also my favorite duels throughout the whole series, but they also make me very emotional. I'll explain why. I grew to like Akiza so much that I even named my daughter after her and her ace monster. Akiza and The Black Rose Dragon, therefore naming my daughter, Akiza Rose. Sadly, in 2020, she was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of two. Reason why these duels make me so emotional is because Yusei uses his Stardust Dragon to comfort Akiza and let her release her anger and frustration that she's feeling onto him kinda like the same way I let my daughter release her frustration onto me whenever she has to get her weekly chemotherapy treatments. I know this is a bit of a sad story, but I just thought I'd share with you guys.
Can I just mention how stupid it is that Akiza only ever uses one Synchro monster throughout the entire series? There should be more plant-related Synchros, so why not ever give her more?
Same with Rua and Ruka / Leo and Luna. You'd think Rua would have a Deformer / "Morphtronic" Synchro or two besides just Power Tool Dragon (and only got Life Stream Dragon near the very end in what feels like an afterthought), and Ruka just being useless throughout the whole series (yet, ironically, Ancient Fairy Dragon would go on to eventually be highly used and even banned in real life, lol)
@@christopherb501 At least it's getting a slight boost in DP27 with Power Tool Braver Dragon, and some yet-to-be-shown other new cards for Rua / Leo. DP27-JP005 Power Tool Braver Dragon (Synchro) Earth/Machine/9/2500/2300 1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Monsters If this card is Special Summoned, you can equip up to 3 Equip Magic Cards with different names from your Deck and/or Graveyard to this card. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect), you can send 1 Equip Magic Card equipped to this card to the Graveyard, then target 1 Effect Monster on the field. Either change its battle position, or negate its effects, until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Power Tool Braver Dragon" once per turn. Ultra Rare ...sorry, I tend to stick with older text and not all the colons and semi-colons and whatnot, lol.
"Yusei's opening hand consists of speed warrior..." well obviously, what else would he open? watch him summon it in attack mode and just leave it there...
TGS anime in the duel between lighting vs shepherd revolver said this interesting line in the dub. The shephard didn't make any mistake in fact he play perfectly but he still lost. Was revolver right about the shephard not making a mistake or did shephard make a mistake that cost him the duel. Can you do a video on it please
I have a duel that I’d like to see analyzed. I know Zexal isn’t the most popular show, but I really like it. The duel id like to see is Kite and Yuma vs Trey and Quattro (I hope that’s right). I noticed one giant shenanigan moment in the final turn when Kite summoned his Neo Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon, especially with the field spell in play, Yuma should’ve taken damage from it and Kite would be the only person left with life points.
I also just realized something. Couldn't Akiza have used Black Rose Dragons effect while stardust was in defense mode or was she out of plant monsters by then?
She had Dark Verdure left in her grave, as well as Phoenixian Seed. So, no. She hadn't ran out of plant monsters in her grave. But what would have her using BRD's second effect would have accomplished? You saw how she used BRD's second effect throughout her duels, right? Implying that the effect either only works on monsters that are in attack position, thus, she can't use it, OR, she can, but didn't want to waste an effect on a defending monster that she knows she won't be able to deal any lp damage.
@@Evil_Beauty In the second duel we saw she used the effect "Properly" as in, how it is supposed to work in the real world. I figured if she used BRD's second effect to switch Stardust to attack mode, and change its points to zero she would have done more damage than she was by attacking Stardust and inflicting piercing while lowering its stats. She could have done 3000 points of damage to Yusei while weakening stardust
@@MAN-lw6br I thought your op was referring to her FIRST duel against Yusei. But had both BRD's anime effects remained consistent like in season one, then it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Aki could've just used it to weakened Stardust Dragon's attack that was in attack position to zero, equip Thorn of Hatred, and attack for game, like the MANY times she did throughout the Fortune Cup tournament. Or, just attack while it is defending. Either, way, Yusei's Stardust Dragon wouldn't be safe from either positions.
@@Evil_Beauty That's what I was wondering. Like just out of curiosity if she had a plant monster to use BRD's effect in the second duel, because I thought that would have let her do a lot more damage to Yusei and probably win her the duel
@@MAN-lw6br *sigh...* As if plot inconsistencies wasn't bad enough, we now have inconsistencies in anime duels, too... God knows why Aki didn't do that. And it's even weirder that the whoever was in charge of writing the story for season TWO decided to just randomly change BRD's anime effects right AFTER season ONE for apparently no good reason other than to make it more, "balanced"... 🙄 P.S. Also, Aki technically cheated with Wonder Clover. Using it mid-battle? 😑 C'mon girl, I can only do so much defending your illegal plays...
At the end of duel 1, Aliza could have also used Black rose effect 2 to switch stardust to atk and achieved the same end goal of prevention stat being gone without getting rid of her own Black Rose
Can we do Yami Bakura vs Yami Marik? I rewatched that duel and I saw there were many opportunities where Bakura could have a chance to win against Marik
In the final turn of the first duel for akiza, she could have actually used her second effect to switch stardust to attack and reduce its attack to zero. After that she could have attacked and won, regardless of the fact that her monster would have been removed from play, and that effect damage would have been dealt to stardust leaving
No because stardust is the perfect counter to blackrose. Negate destruction and 100 more attack. Meaning akiza will always need extra resources to takedown stardust.
@@gunchar06 that effect requires stardust to be in defense mode n why would yusei ever do that against a dragon with 100 less attack points other than to bait out her effect. So akiza would need extra cards to force stardust into defense mode aka extra resources.
Excellent analysis as always! Also what’s the music you use? It sounds great! Also could you do Marik vs Yugi? Keep up the excellent work! This is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to watch on RUclips!
Hey next time please do: Was Yuya able to beat Yuzu? (1st time they dueled, I wanna know if Yuya realy wasn't able to beat her just because of his misplays)
Would love to see one of the 5Ds tournament arc battles. Particularly the Team 5Ds vs Team Unicorn battle. you could even make it a multi-part episode for content sake.
Yusei would’ve won the second duel 100% guaranteed as he had the most powerful card ever created on his field . More so than Exodia and Divine Serpent Geh The Senator 😂😂😂😂 I’m sorry, but it made me laugh a bit how Akiza’s dad actually stood on the field with Yusei during the duel 😂😂😂 Joking aside , I loved Yusei/Akiza II .😃😃😃 Also, can you do Gong vs Grizzlepike from Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V please ? Grizzlepike could’ve won on a couple of occasions 😃😃
These two duels were awesome! I remembered my brother joked about how Stardust Dragon using its effect on Black Rose Dragon looks like it’s actually embracing it. (We didn’t know it turns out to be the actual case, of course.) Potential Stardust Rose Dragon card in the future? XD Thank you for another great insight in not just one but two duels, TGC Anime. :)
It would be cool to see an analysis of Yusei vs Jack. If there had to be a specific one, the fortune cup final duel. I’m curious if jack and Yusei played the best moves they could or did they misplay/did the plot hinder decisions
Great job as always! I recommend Jack vs Dragan from Team Ragnarok. Their decks were repeating their original duel, but Jack had Red Nova Dragon this time around. Could he have won the original duel without that card?
14:47 why she not just using the 2nd effect to flip stardust from def to atk and reducing it atk then attack for game? She instead using the destruction effect..
Two amendments:
Akiza’s Psychic Powers we’re amplified by her signer mark and not where she got them from.
Totally agree with you
Can you do an Duel Analysis with Yugi and Leon von Schroeder's Duel?
I was gonna say that, but you got it
Missed this but this is what I assumed anyway
Oh man Yusei started turn 1 by summoning Speed Warrior. How unexpected of him.
To be fair it’s always like that the first couple episodes lmao. You cannot tell me jaden and Yuma using flame wingman/utopia wasn’t the usual game ender until they started using better cards lol
Yusei this is the seventh week in a row you've opened with speed warrior.
Yusei, c’mon man, you gotta stop cutting your cards so you draw Speed Warrior first, the judges are gonna be onto you soon
"Blackrose dragon has two effects. Why am I telling you this?"
Because no one knows that the second effect exist since no one ever uses it.

Poor Stardust was abused like absolute hell throughout the second duel.
Trying to protect his friends and his own attacker…
That is what it does best, tribute itself to protect other cards. Quite symbolic of Yusei's personality I would say!

@@TheJaredPunch I meant as in Oww that hurt kinda damage but maybe I’m miss remembering again.
Vengeful Servant is apparently that card in Akiza's deck that every time she draws it she's just like, "damn, I really need to take this out."
It is not a bad comboe with the rose mark card
My card like that is pot of duality because I always forget that I can't special summon afterwards
I like to think it's a Tytannial, I think Akiza runs it in the videogames.
Love when he stops calling her izayoi and calls her Aki in the 2nd duel, but the first duel got me hooked to the series.
I would have added more blood like in the manga yeah it’s a kid show but we were going to see impalements and lobotomies later on in this show.
What sexist pig do you keep talking about?@@Evil_Beauty
It's not due to her signer mark, she naturally has psychic powers, they're not tied to the mark. So due to her psychic powers, Yusei is taking real damage when her monsters hit him

I remember being so invested in the first duel between Akiza and Yusei as a kid. Definitely one of my favorite duels in 5Ds.
Again proves why Yusei is one of the best written Yu-Gi-Oh characters to date since 2009.
That’s my head canon at least.
I really enjoy analysis videos with multiple duels as they really encapsulate the journey the duelist have been on from their first to last

You want a girl using Plants again, you'll have to go all the way to Sevens.
If I remember right, I saw a comment years ago saying the issue was the japanese voice actress being involved in cult stuff. Could be remembering wrong, though.

Loved their dynamic throughout the show.
Her combo with Rose tentacles with her theme playing in the background has gotta be one of the best moments in 5ds
The amount of specific cards for very specific situations used by Yusei made me thinks if Eren was behind the duels all the time.
My favorite protag vs my favorite heroine in all of yugioh. I love them. And their duel in the tournament is one of my favorite duels. Both in terms of dueling action, and then emotional background and symbolism of it. 5ds truly was something special.
"So it's just this Duel, she does naughty things."

I'd love to see "Was Carly about to defeat Jack?" for another 5Ds entry. There's a certain point in the duel that very clearly would and should have changed the result.
Bruh with the trap Changing Destiny, Carly would win the duel in that moment
There is literally a "What if" fanfic called My Dark King that goes down that exact route and makes Jack become the lead Dark Signer. It's really good, but sadly unfinished.
Carly and Jack in future seasons should have got together.
Team Unicorn should've really beaten them, but I'd like to see Team Taiyo analyzed first. After all their duel was never dubbed so there's still people who don't know about it (shame considering how unique Taiyo's deck was too.)
@@perrytran9504 well they kinda had to make Aki do so little in the duel. She should have gotten a win on the first guy so yusie winning the dual would be less forced overall and show Aki did grow as a dualist before crow came back.

@@ivanbluecool The last unicorn duelist threw the game. If he had not attacked Yusei would have lost to deckout but his attack allowed Yusei to use his handtrap to win.
Or Ishizu could’ve just not summoned the last monster and waited til he decked out.
And honestly, I'm glad Ishizu had that thought.

Surprisingly beautiful duels for all their symbolism. They made me cry.
I always wished Red dragon archfiend was fire attribute and black rose as dark
Aculy that makes more sense
@@phoenixblade8315 I get that, there does seem to be an argument that could go either way for it, honestly
@@Evil_Beauty dub or sub, either way Akiza was being blinded by her emotions and obviously not on her absolute A+ game
I mean, in fairness, both path led to victory. She lost because of Yusei's face-down card.
Do you plan to make a video about one of Yusaku's duels? He seems like someone who would never make a missplay. Plus he has never lost a duel.
I think anime changes are not "illegal move" and more a different anime effect. Clearly Black Rose in anime can destroy all cards on special summon too and can use its atk reduction on monsters in attack mode too.
I agree, they often change the effects of cards in the anime to work a little differently. It can also be seen with Junk Warrior, who in real life only gets the extra attack points added when it's summoned, while in Yusei and Akiza's first duel, it got a boost when Speed Warrior was summoned while it was already in play
and then akiza did basically nothing after this season ends, its really a shame that there was so many problems with the show’s writing team
Chief among them: Yoshida coming anywhere near something with nuance outside of his preferences. No wait, that's secondary; chief among them is ONO coming near anything with nuance, period.
"So let's just say it's Scrap Iron Scarecrow."
My guy, if Yusei has a SIS in his hand, you KNOW he'll play it that turn.

There was a lot of symbolism in these duels that I totally missed when I watched the episodes.
Couldnt Black Rose just have a different effect in the anime? A good amount of cards do that.
I think its just a matter of the Anime Effects bring slightly different. Akiza does later make use of BRD's effect after summoning it from Grave so its likely a matter of just being Special Summoned by any means. Plus the position requirement isn't a huge difference so it should be fine.
Idk a single duel where Yusei did not need a specific card to draw
Both of these duels are super emotional, i'm getting watery eyes from just watching it lol.
19:59 Looks like Stardust Dragon is getting turned on by Black Rose Dragon.
I can’t help it, the binding vines don’t help either.
Was Dr. Crowler about to defeat jaden in the graduation duel?

Can I just mention how stupid it is that Akiza only ever uses one Synchro monster throughout the entire series? There should be more plant-related Synchros, so why not ever give her more?
I don't know what's weirder: this, or the fact more people don't recognize it.

Also it's signer dragon vs signer dragon so symbolism
The Anime version of the second effect should allow her to just bulldoze through Stardust though.
@@gunchar06 that effect requires stardust to be in defense mode n why would yusei ever do that against a dragon with 100 less attack points other than to bait out her effect. So akiza would need extra cards to force stardust into defense mode aka extra resources.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how cool and unique Akiza's deck is. Something about the monsters from the 5d's era just hits different
14:47 why she not just using the 2nd effect to flip stardust from def to atk and reducing it atk then attack for game? She instead using the destruction effect..
