@nonstopDan thanks for the recommendation for Magic Travel. I just used it to help make plans with my wife when we visit Paris in the spring and it helped save me a ton of time and research on what to do and places to eat! I'll have to start using this for other trips! I didn't think AI would be a thing for travel but I'm here for it!
‘Depression’ while flying on a first class flight on JAL.
Ok pal
Imagine paying up to 10k$ for this. Put things into perspective "pal" we're not talking about an economy seat here.
Agree that ANA is a step ahead of Japan Airlines, but saying that it compares to airlines like Air China or China Eastern is wayyyyy too exaggerated. Though the cabin may be old-fashioned, its soft products and service culture (in my opinion) is on another level. Almost always a pleasure flying JAL.
Totally agree that ANA is way in front of JAL. But to say that JAL is on the same level as mainland Chinese carriers is taking the criticism a bit too far! I've never flown JL F, but all the many flights I've had with them in J have been solid. Marginally better than KE and OZ, similar to BR or CI...all of which are far far superior to anything from the PRC
日本のレベルを中国なんかと一緒にしないでください
CX ahead of all mentioned
I would agree ANA has a more premium service, but it also has a more premium price. One great thing about JAL is the access to the lounge if one is traveling premium economy class. It represents great value!
Business/First class are "bad" mainly for people that well........don't drink......and are vegetarians/vegans, that's...boring.
Hi Dan, I think you've been a bit harsh on Japan Airlines. They're a wonderful airline, dedicated crews, highly efficient and caring. They're not about showing off like Emirates and the like.
Yeah but seriously
This product is pretty embarrassing
I love JAL first class! Flown twice and is always a great experience 🥰
Finally someone is talking about the pillows on jal! The ones in business class are terrible, tiny and lumpy inside.
Great job!
What are the examples of most services in the lounge still not available due to the pandemic? It is true that the shoe shine service never came back, but that is literally the only casualty. The order flow was changed, now you order from the app rather than go to the counter, but I think that will stick just because it works better.
It is true that the space that was designated for the sushi counter is not in use, but honestly the passenger numbers don't require additional space. That would just be added seating, everything on offer service wise is already on offer.....
If you are thinking about the 15 minute massage, that was cut years before the pandemic.
I personally would say not being comfortable speaking English isn't too big a thing, seeing as the flight is Japanese and not flying to an English speaking country. Although I'm not blind to the fact that a lot of people speak English as a second language all over the world, I feel like we as English speakers kind of expect the world to cater to us a bit
As a Japanese, I think they should improve their English skill at lease First class staff.
JAL is an international carrier with an extensive network flying the globe and supplied with passengers from their global One World Alliance partners. The flight could have been filled with connecting passenger’s from the US or any other country and the crew would have to work that flight. No excuse to not be able to fully assist a passenger who can’t speak Japanese whether it’s in Economy or First Class. It was not a deal breaker for Dan and most passengers don’t care but the whole experience was hampered when something’s could have been handled if they understood each other better.
@@JeanClaudeCOCO Only an anglo could be that entiteled. Would you have the same expectations about french or spanish since they are so widely spoken? Or mandarin?
I used to be a customer service trainer. You can teach language but you will struggle to "teach" natural warmth and/or a genuine desire to help and be kind. People who have that quality will always find a way to communicate.
Idk, i'd still fly it if i got the opportunity to.
fr tho
Same
Me too
especially if you're migrating or anything similar. JAL has the best baggage policy. You get 3 baggages checked in in Business or First. Majority of other airlines only have 2 included in ticket price.
JAL Economy is the best in the world it’s an airline for the people unlike these Middle Eastern airlines who only give good service if you pay up. At JAL the focus is to give the Japanese people great service when travelling!
watching this while wearing JAL pyjamas ;)
Sorry to see that the catering was so bad! Especially for a flight to Thailand, where there are a lot of vegetarians too, I’d have expected them to do a lot better. Japan has amazing tofu / bean curd cuisine: they should’ve done that!
As a Japanese speaker, I can confirm that the service in Japanese is really different compared to their service in English 😢
I can see why many hype JAL or ANA if you indeed wants an authentic Japanese dinning experience while flying but Singapore or Emirates you will get a more international experience that serves most passengers needs.
First class service is tailored to perfection but JAL didn’t do so. They could have taken his dietary restrictions from booking and perfected a meal for him. The little details which put them a step below the other airlines I mention above.
@@JeanClaudeCOCOAnd this is why I as someone who loves Japan prefer them to these soulless multi culti airlines without any identity. On JAL it’s Japanese culture if that doesn’t fit you then don’t fly with them it’s as simple as this really.
9:20 you'll only ever hear that complaint from anglos
I just flew this first class seat today from ORD back to Haneda. It is super comfy with these leather recliners, I like them better than the new seats that don't seem thick with padding. As I live in Japan, I usually fly ANA but was so surprised with the better service with JAL.
I totally understand how airline catering can be. It's not easy. Altitude also affects taste, and there's also the conditions of the galley cooking. But if other airlines can provide good quality offerings, then the expectation is there. And why not accept any offerings. For many, travelling is a once in a long time thing. So why not offer what is available. It's a memorable event for many. Most passengers aren't frequent flyers. Happy travels. I love the flamboyant culture of airlines. Enjoy it. You worked for it. You earned it. It's my dream job to be a flight attendant. I went for the interview, but they found someone else at that time. I got a ground job and love making the holiday port a happy place. Never give up on your dreams. People are working to make it possible for travellers. Long comment, but airlines and holidays are significant. Bon voyage.
You gotta keep in mind that Japan is not a country that generally caters towards dietary requirements
Or Korea. Judging an airline based on its ability to cater to veggies/vegans is a pretty narrow lens.
Don't know when you last visited Japan but I've spent three weeks there this year and have had no problems finding all types of foods that special to a variety of diets.
(me ordering the Kosher meal)
@@GG-hi5ifActually, that’s a perfect way to judge an airline because the least they could do is cater to everyone. Same when you go to a “fine” restaurant, the really good ones will accommodate to YOUR dietary needs because you’re the customer.
When you’re on a ticket that goes for $10k+, it’s very fair for ability to cater for dietary requirements to be judged in a review
11:06 The sound of pouring liquid added in post-production? 😅 That had me laughing but nicely done (as was the whole review)!
Yes it was 100% fake hahah!
Fantastic content as always.
Oh man, I’ve been waiting for this video! The last time I flew JAL was 2010 when they were still flying the 747s, and economy was not the highlight. 😹 Although they were amazing flying Osaka to Singapore! Good to know that their economy is probably their best product, since we might end up flying them again soon out of Vancouver!
I almost flew JAL from Beijing to NYC through Tokyo in August but was switched by my employer to Emirates going through Dubai. I would have been in economy so it's good to know that their economy is good. Thanks for these comprehensive videos.
JAL economy is better than Emirates
Dan, great background music selection for your videos.
Amazing work on this video man
🎉 always top class reviews. Never stop ❤
Bring back odd memories, as I am old enough to remember when we used to get ammenity kits in economy from JAL when flying with them 30 years ago.
I've always wondered do you keep the pjs?
Good to know. Thank you
Please do a video on ZipAir’s no frills business class.
Great video!!!
Great to ser that you use Poland to show Magic tool. All The best from Poland :)
I also fly this route in September, with their promotion on upgrade with point from Business to First, for just 25000 FOP
For toilet to pax ratio, you are forgetting about crew that are going to be using it too
Love your work Dan, keep going!!
Nice to see ya Dan
A few months ago, I was at the same airport and ALSO had my flight (American Airlines) leaving from Gate #149. What a coincidence!
JAL economy (cattle as my friends call it) was surprisingly quite good. I hadn't been on an overseas flight in 12 years but flown around Australia on Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin, Rex and Tigerair. Comparing my JAL flight to these, I was happily surprised and very comfortable at the very back of the flight. My only criticism was the food. I was lactose intolerant before going to Japan for 10 years and I received my food before everyone else but also I got my tray removed long after everyone else. I wish they could've removed it as 30-45 mins with a tray is a nightmare and my legs cramped up heaps. Everything else was good enough or exceeded my low expectations.
Love Japan Airlines! They are one of the best airlines to cross the pacific with :)
Thank God I have always crossed the Atlantic. Although it is good, I moved to the EU, and it is no longer an issue.
Curious now to see your Japan Airlines economy review but I can't seem to find it
You should try to fly on new Japan airlines a350-1041
Thanks once again, for a well-balanced review Dan 👌 Incidentally, have you ever considered doing Vlogs of your experiences in the many cities around the world you travel too? That’s something I think quite a few of us might enjoy watching.
look at oskar and dan, i think that's their vlog channel
@@Galaxiewolfdachicken Ah, thanks - I’ll take a look at that! 👍

Never forget the pilots of JAL123, may everyone onboard rest in piece, RIP JAL123.
I've flown F to and from TYO on ANA, JAL, BA and Emirates in F, I'd out ANA and JAL slightly above Emirates, and BA down at the bottom. JAL and BA are my most frequent option, probably because of my BA status.
There's really not much between JAL and ANA to be honest. ANA has some very special guest Champagnes as well as their usual Krug if you're into that. The older ANA seat is a weird coffin like thing, it's comfy but a bit claustrophobic, whereas the JAL seat is quite open. But it's the food where the two Japanese airlines stand out as long as you don't demand special requirements. I think the crews on JAL just edge it over ANA on the bow count.
I wonder if it’s a JAL thing for the cabin to be so hot. On one flight it got so hot , I kept drinking iced water and fanning myself. Felt like I was having a hot flush at one point.
Its an East Asia thing. Warm is preferred by the locals
Was that Fish Sushi you were eating?
Haneda is not as convenient if you are right by the NEX to Narita. LOVE the NEX train.
*gasp in Japanese* moment - brilliant 🤣🤣🤣 so Dan like
Thinking of treating myself to a first class journey from Melbourne Australia to Prague in the second half of next year. Anyone have any recommendations?
Emirates, or Singapore airlines.
Not many airlines fly First to Prague. You'll have to check something like Google flights first.
@@j134679 true, even Emirates only have business class and I think have their subsidiary Fly Dubai operate it, and SQ, you would have to change somewhere like Frankfurt or London to get first . It would be standard European business class to a major hub then first from there.
I highly prefer JAL to ANA. I have been on Chinese carriers and both Japanese carriers are 100x better. I will take the excellent wifi over IFE anyday. I just put the map on the screen. I can also assure you the "Great mistake" oredering off the western menu was a one off. The best western airplane food I have had is on JAL. HND-BKK is a regional flight, not the real F Class you get over the Pacific. Try ANA intra asia...BIG difference less food. You are not comparing Apples to apples ... not at all
Can u please review Bangkok airport sat 1 terminal
Good review. Bonus points for giving 'discombobulated' a run-out.
Magic? I'll give it a try.
At least you didn't get a single banana as a complete meal 😂
Maybe u can try First Class Garuda Indonesia 😊
So luxurious !
Hey Dan! I was excited for you to upload your next video but when I got the notification I clicked like my life depended on it 😂
Hahahah thank you!!
Nicely reviewed.
9:12 By definition of international, there would be more than just English speakers, at least they're trying... So how should they be able to cater for every language?
oh dear we have flights booked, but in BC
I was just watching another one of your video's dan, and I saw this one!
Thanks for watching!
The pillow is criminal. They need to learn from ANA, their pillow is superior
mannn, JAL Airlines menus looks way better on it than in reality... I always thought JAL was better than ANA due to pricing but ig thats only the economy thats better
Also Japan having hard beds is completely normal, that isnt really on the airline itself but a cultural thing
Mean while I’m so happy after find out that my seat number is a window seat on Ryanair.
I honestly don’t think anything can beat the Finnair A350 business class
I have to disagree to the highest level.. no bueno
Thanks Dan.
Your videos give me 20 minutes of peace in these crazy times.
I love JAL and i have a short video for first class as well
Cant judge first class but my experiences in steerage have seen JAL the clear winner in almost every way, especially important being the seat is far more comfortable on JAL.
Hey Dan please do the new Air India (the new a350)
JAL business class has been a complete dud every time I’ve flown it. Glad I didn’t spring for first class
Wow, nice
Been an avid watcher of all your reviews and travels for so long now. It's truly amazing the depth you go to with your reviews and the joy you bring not just to me but so many others when travelling. Amazing job and keep it up!
5K is way too steep for a flight of this quality
Let's go!
Japan Airlines is one of the best in the world.
Japanese food usually is lighter in flavor.
there's great plant based sushi at japan house in são paulo
Please review Kuwait Airways, There have improved a lot in years!
I am Japanese. I am so sad. JAL is very nice airlines. Cabin crew is very kind and warm.
Next time please use private jet. So you will be satisfied😅
He just flew and enjoyed ANA greatly in a recent video.
Bodied that whiner
I very much appreciated this comprehensive video, as always actually. What I’d be thrilled for, would be a new review of Cathay’s First, it would really go well with your recent F videos. May there be something in the pipeline?😇
Need to fly CX F soon!
I would say it's bit short fligth to enjoy JAL!
just saying.. that tea is amazing and really expensive to buy. 😂 a bunch of us made the mistake of allowing it to free flow
After I saw the menu, which looked delicious, I knew you'd suffer from veganism.
Great job as ever Dan!
Hello!
is JAL the Japanese flagship airline?
Yes
As ever it's great to see you Boys doing what you do so well. I always enjoy your content/opinions & also your joint channel. Thanks to algorithms RUclips keeps offering me alternatives & I keep blocking them, have you ever found yourself on a flight where someone else is doing the same as you? Very best wishes to you&yours💙💙👌🙏👏👏👋⭐️'s✌️
Do you ever review economy?
It seems that much like SWISS' first class, the lounge is the best part of the experience.
What is wrong with Swiss First? I absolutely love them, great amenities, superb seat and outstanding food. Last time I rode them to Hong Kong we were only two pax in First and I did some caviar testing. The remaining food was of Michelin star quality.
AMAZING VIDEO!! (Also im very early for some reason :D)
Thank youuu!
ANA's regular basic business class (on most 777s and all of the 787s) is really quite subpar. No storage, not much privacy. It' s good enough but I think I'd prefer JL's business class if I can get a window seat
Is it now a 777-300 ER or without ER!? Safety Card says non ER…
Not surprised. JAL has been challenged ever since its near bankruptcy 'a few years back.
Their product was scaled back along with expenditures of cabin fitment & food. 787 Business Class seats were underwhelming and tight for anyone over 6' and 150lbs.
The staff has most always been the accomodating. Gracious.
If you spend that kind of money $5K...you're right, the food should be elevated to surpass the FC lounge.
Hopefully your video will have a positive impact on inflight food service
17:53 AI ahh voice
Title change counter here - 3
I would fly almost any airline (almost). I love flying.
Hahaha lucky you put that "almost" in there😂
the 777 has really dry air. Why no one mentioned this is a mystery to me. JAL first was ok for me. Not wonderful.
So disappointing! I’ll avoid them in the future
Your drink menu is from the business class. The champagne should have been Cristal or salon
9:32 seriously stop being a Ken! You’re giving us gays a bad name. This is not a white airline
hello
Would like to see a few more economy class reviews on this channel. Great video though
JAL is not for vegans & vegetarians.... else they are impressive
