We made the best NFL play ever for the worst NFL team ever | Fumble Dimension

- Fumble Dimension is a new video series from Kofie Yeboah and Jon Bois. Our mission is to use the universes within video games to conduct experiments that, in the real world, would be impossible. And, ideally, break as much stuff as possible along the way.
This episode is titled “THE QUEST FOR THE ULTIMATE NFL PLAY,” it’s a two-parter, and it’s a barn-burner. In Part 1, we used NFL Head Coach 09 to attempt to design the perfect offensive play entirely from scratch. Jon, Kofie, Banner Society football expert Richard Johnson, and Madden champion Young Kiv each designed plays of their own.

I can't believe they actually got John Madden for this
Unfortunately that was just Jon Bois doing Madden’s voice. But props to Jon for accuracy.
Aw man
Abbi Abshire lol
@@abbiabshire7823 I don't know, I didn't see Jon's lips moving.

Kofie: Let's find the optimal play for any situation using the advice of two experts
Jon: Let's just try to break the game
Well, you're playing an old madden, not a new one nor real football

Only thing missing is one Calvin Beeftank.

Yup. Gonna need to clear my schedule.

Yeah, Pretty Good, one might say
"We put it to a poll"
Lets be honest, Jon's gonna win, as of posting this he has 75% of the vote
Honestly I think he'd win even if he had the worst play. Because we love him and the chaos he brings.
THE BRAIN SPECIALIST we just want to see how game breaking the season will get.
Honestly, as much as Kiv's play would bring the best result Jon's is just so chaotic that us not picking it could probably lead to legal trouble
Also breaking the game is funnier than thinking with logic
@@noxebop That's exactly why I voted for Jon's play. It's absolutely ridiculous and I want to see what happens running the entire season using only that play.
They shouldn’t have said that who made which play
We now return to Jon Bois dragging his friend into the void with him.
It's been 25+ years, but I finally have a place to mention the time I won the Super Bowl with the Bengals in Troy Aikman Football in SNES just by running flea-flickers every single play.
Last night I finally got my copy of All Pro Football 2k8 from eBay and I had Barry Sanders on the first game I played. I ran a flea flicker in the fourth quarter and it was just nasty how open my WR was.
You're a great American, Grant. I thank you for your sincere humility in your retelling of your moment of glory.
We are the Bob. You will be assimilated.
Well done, Grant. I am genuinely impressed.
In Madden 06, I won every single game using the Seattle Seahawks and running almost nothing but HB Blast with Shaun Alexander. As long as I could get him through an opening in the blocks, from that point he was basically untouchable.
I very nearly became a Seahawks fan simply because of that game. Even now they're still the team I'll root for second behind the Bears.
Makes you feel bad for Calvin Johnson all over again.
It’s always hard to see a terrible team squander a generational talent. He deserved so much better.
Tom Volz the Lions did it
Multiple times
Barry Sanders
Calvin Johnson
Matthew Stafford
@@Shawn_Babcock They're doing it with Matthew Stafford again. Make it 3.
@@Shawn_Babcock Under good coaching, Stafford might have become another Brett Favre: reckless gunslinger with a ring. Instead, he plays for the Lions.
They should have just drawn up this play and run it every time
When chess grandmasters play computers, they often start with archaic openings they’d never play against human opponents. As computing power has increased, chess engines have more or less figured out the most common opening moves; an obsolete and fundamentally unsound move, they think, has a better chance of confusing the AI.
Jon has managed something similar, perhaps by accident. For all his remarks of chaotic randomness, I noticed something familiar in his formation: it’s essentially the single wing, which was the predominant offense in the early days of professional football. The backs are offset to one side, and the tailback takes the snap; he rolls out, and either keeps the ball himself, or passes to the end who runs downfield. The T formation and it’s balanced attack exposed the single wing’s limitations in the early 1940s, and it was mostly extinct in big-time football by the end of the decade.
A “real” football team, such as a Group of Five FCS school, could adopt an Air Raid philosophy or a clock-eating Leroy Hoard rushing attack to great success, and many have. No one’s bringing back the single wing. But, the Madden engine is simulating “real” football; it doesn’t know what to do with the single wing.
fishflake1209 I love this logic, even if it isn't correct (which I doubt). Nice comment!
Man this even reads like something Jon would write. Bravo
True about chess but outdated. GMs don’t play engines anymore it’s futile and we are pathetic. They are better than us at all but the most specialized situations
@@anguishingquark the only time engines are bad is against a hippo

I love how everyone was thinking soundly about, hmm what play would actually work here, and Jon is like...How do I break this game to make it let me win.
To be fair, that's all the Madden pro said too.
Tyler he did couch it as, real teams use this play.
That was more a criticism of how Madden pros play the game than anything specific he said. He literally said "we don't use slants," one of the most common routes in real football. Madden pros play a video game, and as such, there are game breaking mechanics in the programming, which are exploited by the high-level players.
Tyler Which is even more ridiculous since even defenses that are specifically meant to cover the slant don’t actually stop slant routes if you’re not usering over the middle.
I think out of respect the Madden pro wouldn't have given them a silly play like that. He probably assumed they wanted a somewhat reasonable play that was guaranteed to crush the AI. I'm sure he knows plenty of broken plays with the level of game knowledge he must have.
No wonder Calvin retired, they made him run the same route for a whole year.

Glad to see the Jon's ridiculous play is winning the vote so far. XD
I like how the guy who’s play was absolutely the best in real football was the only lost and the Play who would absolutely never work in real football won by the most.
I dont know if Richard's play would have worked. I would have been fine to use in a normal playbook, but it relies on the defense making mistakes. And overall he just doesn't seem to understand how Madden works. Maybe he just never played it but he seems to think of it as "the game" and is going into it with a human mindset.

We had to use this play *every down*. No punting. No Field Goals. Always Going for 2 etc
Thanks y'all
- Kofie and Jon
Honestly, I'd love to see 5 sperate simulations. One for each play and one with all four plays installed in the offense. I think that it would be interesting to see the season long stats for each individual play and then how they might work together.
I voted for Jon's, not just because Jon is an absolute legend (he is), but it also seemed to be the most successful.
As if anyone had a chance against Jon's play.
I would still like it see Kiv's season
Kiv's idea might actually win the Lions the Super Bowl
I honestly liked Kofie's original logic. The formation is great. Until Richard butted in he had his best receiver isolated on the left, making him hard to double cover and probably matched with the #2 corner. With the void created on that side, the TE drag was perfect, and the slant would've worked too with the right timing. Keep the long corner but change the second corner to a flat! The routes would complement each other and the flat gets open easily and quickly from that formation, giving you a much needed quick outside option. I'd say just have the RB block too. If you have to run the same play all game, you definitely need a way to get the ball out fast, an extra blocker against the pass rush, Megatron threatening deep (He's 6'5" with 96 speed, and anyone can get open underneath), nobody just treated as a decoy, and obviously it would be a pass, not a run.
...yeah so ignore Richard and try this, Kofie.
Kofie is really the goat but he quiet about it
Haha how did I know the "Welcome to Eternity!"/"Every day's a sale!" voice was coming the second he said he had a Madden impression? XD
with a Kroger plus card, it’s like every days a sale
Someone should do "the creation of SB nation deserves a deep rewind"
Aw, don't make me pick, I wanna see all 4 of these plays be used for an entire season =
How’d you guys manage to get John Madden for this video?
Stop copying comments
Mr. Awesome I commented this when it came out settle down bud
The greatest play of all time is the butt fumble
The only play that has ever mattered. Ever. XD
It has resulted in a td 100% of the time lol
No, the greatest play of all time is the Colt’s fake punt.
Kofie is the only guy to do research on this and he has 2% of the vote i kinda feel bad 😂
Madden's AI has changed very little over the last 20 years, for what it's worth. It wouldn't be surprising if Kiv's knowledge of modern Madden games would help him develop that play.
Hmmmm a poll with one option being made by Jon Bois.
I feel like his play could be "they all just stand around and try to talk the enemy team into taking the ball to the touchdown for us" and he would still win.
And if Jon was actually on the field with the offense, I think that play would score a TD often enough to be successful.
@@deanjo57790 please, he'd be undefeated
The last time I was this early, the Golden State Warriors were a Finals contender
Buzz your girlfriend. Woof
I just want to see Calvin’s numbers by the end of the season.
when u think of how many missed extra points there was to only have 50 points on 8 touchdowns
Maybe no extra point attempts allowed only 2pt conversions with their plays?
They have to run that play whenever possible, so they have to go for 2. 1/8 is a reasonable success rate for a team that bad
Slant routes are OP in real life too especially the RPO slant
I have only heard 3 John Madden impressions in my life. Yours was so bad that it does not count
"Here's a guy who claims to have a good impression, but BOOM he boots it."
I really need part 2. It's been 2 weeks. I'm starting to shake like a junkie.
Is part 2 in production?
i have to assume i'm wrong but is that a naruto christmas sweater

I'm a Lions fan. The saddest part of the 0-16 season was Megatron. You'd think one of the greatest receivers of all time could never possibly be on a winless team.
Jon's play made me laugh uncomfortably loud at my desk. Then I saw the results, and laughed even louder.
I think the fact that the play created by a guy who was just messing around did better than a play crafted carefully by an expert speaks volumes of how garbage EA football games actually are 😂😂
I voted for making Calvin Johnson do 100 yard sprints while being showered with footballs
"I just bumble around until I trip over success. I recommend it"
20:47... that’s how a lot of teams with weaker QBs play in general like that’s how the 2000 Ravens ran their Offense, Jamal Lewis controlled games and Dilfer did just enough to keep the clock running
Jon's play.
I mean, come on, it's The Internet's Jon Bois. His play could be "the Lions give up and go sit in the stands to eat peanut butter sandwiches with their fans" and I'd still vote for it.
Sim the season with each of them.
The crazy thing is, all of the insane passing stats makes sense when you put into account that they’re all running plays that beat Cover 2, the defense the Vikings were running.
Honestly would love to see this sim run against a more balanced defense.
that madden impression was mina kimes-sean connery level. impeccable
I liked your Madden impression.
It was terrible but I liked it.
Oh I don't have to watch this video I already know the answer: Four verticals

Obviously everyone wants Jon's big dumb amazing play, come on now
This series is gonna be the life of me
Same bro
My favorite city is BOIS-Y Idaho, my second is S-Kofie, Illinois
I LOVED the Arena games, they legit were a lot of fun. Granted, I only got to play the first one, as it was the only one that released for Xbox, but the two games were almost exactly the same despite being released a year apart lol. Those games were actually more challenging than old Maddens.
Gonna binge Jon Bois to fill the void Deadspin left
RIP Foodspin
I love that it always feels like Jon is just banishing the athletes to the fumble dimension when everyone else wants to escape.
Kofie is underrated
My only Madden tournament, my first play was play action power O with the TE corner. Touchdown. It’s a play that I like basing my offense around (considering I run power I, run heavy pro offenses).
It’s not about the routes though, it’s about your personnel and the usages thereof. The routes are ways to break the defense, yes... but an ill equipped player at that position or situation will not work.
Take this from someone who’s spent a lot time crafting a football dice game. (Crafted to play like the game as it’s meant to be played)
I love Kofie's zoned out face when he's chatting with Kiv
I voted for Jon's play, it's straight up ridiculous and would, by itself, make Calvin Johnson immediately the best receiver in NFL history at the end of one season. Would be incredibly amusing seeing the end of season total stats.
Part 2! Now! The fans demand it!
I had a friend who on what I believe was madden 08 who ran only two created plays and was utterly unbeatable. He always played as his favorite team (Washington) and ran an empty-set diamond bunch where the entire o-line pulled to lead block a sweep for Jason Campbell and a pass play where the receivers would crash into each other mid route that would frequently cause Antwaan Randle-El to just glitch and appear 15 yards behind the safeties for a touchdown.
WHERE IS PART TWO DAMMIT
Unless they misses almost every EP how do you only score 50 points on 8 TD's
Jurgen Bunt they didn’t take fgs instead they ran that same play to try for a 2pt conversion
I voted for Jon’s play purely because it’s the most ludicrous formation ever and would clearly never work in reality but I want to see it succeed
It’s the single wing, a formation that’s been obsolete for 70 years.
Why you gotta test on my Vikings??? I vote for John's play, although I'd like to see how all 4 of them fare.
I wish I could live in the fumble dimension sounds like a good time
I’d love to see Kiv’s play only and see how many TDs could be thrown
