I mean hey he’s just reminding everyone that drought is indeed still intact, and that the Mariners missed in both 2020 and 2021. You know, since the Doc only went up to the end of the 2019 season.
*3 times at least: jello toilet, trading a player for himself, moving the batters box, the kid’s return, the outfield puking, the announcer calling the home run down to the count and the type of pitch.
The reason the fielding is so whack is because of the show 17. In that game a lot of competitive players would play outfielders that could hit super well, but didn’t have a spot in the outfield, at first base. Even though these outfielders didn’t have first base as a secondary position they still played first base perfectly. In mlb 18 they changed that and made it so out of position first baseman are pretty much useless. Im mlb 19 they made a huge change where if you played any player at anywhere out of position their fielding stat would decrease drastically. So with all the ohtanis being right fielders they are out of position everywhere. Catcher out of position has always been whack.
I tried re-creating the experiment in OOTP Baseball 22, which is very strict about defensive ability and it went extremely poorly. Team only won 41 games scoring 5.3 runs per game because they allowed a whopping 8.8 runs per game. The team set records for errors and low defensive efficiency. But at least they broke the HR record with 340.
I fooled myself at the end of the first video, where I saw there was only one minute left when Jon says, "If the Ohtani's wash out in the first round, that's just something we'll have to live with," and presumed the next sentence was, "Yeah, they washed out. Pack it up, folks." Roll credits.

No real reason why Ohtani would have troubles catching a fairly simple throw or overthrow on dropped third strikes like he's often showed doing. Some of the finer points, like the other catching errors and mistakes turning two are a bit more excusable for sure though.

yeah in this game the braves make trades and sign players like crazy, i have seen them have all 3 nl mvp canidates and all of them were signed in the off season, meaning they still had acuna, riley, soroka, etc. the craziest I saw was acuna in center, juan soto in right, michael conforto who was hitting like crazy in right, dansby swanson at short, riley at third, vlad at first and albies at second. oh did i forget to mention they had somehow gotten max Scherzer?
I think it would be really cool if you guys hired someone to do Japanese subtitles for the videos in this series, since he's so popular in Japan and this was such a fun romp. I know something like that isn't free, but I think it would be awesome to let his fans overseas enjoy this as much as I did.
This would be perfect if all the Ohtani's (especially catcher) would progress defensively. Would be more realistic, especially considering what an athlete Ohtani is. It's too bad The Show had to penalize out of position players so harshly.
I think an important conclussion, is how unimportant is fielding in a 162 game season. 7 Guys per team just stand there, for a combined roughly 51,030 hours (or 2,126 days, or almost 6 years) every season, for absolutely nothing. Cheers for them!
Fielding is in no way unimportant, balls are hit in play all the time and bad fielding leads to errors that lead to extra runs. No world series caliber team gets that far with bad fielding

Hey, I actually remember going to a Tigers game when Bo Jackson was playing for the Royals! I don't even remember who won, I just remember Bo getting seemingly louder cheers than a lot of the Tigers players when they announced the lineups, lol (one thing about old Tiger Stadium was that it could get pretty damn loud, more so than Comerica Park, especially when there was a decent crowd, maybe because it was more closed in, I suppose)

The real world is funny. Ohtani, now a Dodger, has now won a World Series... *but* he accomplished very little during that series (not *nothing* but nowhere near the spectacles you probably hoped for; plus an injury kept him from pitching at all this year) while the rest of his team (especially series MVP Freddie Freeman) did all the significant work. I'm not sure what *that* says about baseball, but I will admit that given the choice between disappearing in the Angels forever or doing what was shown in this video, baseball picked a third option I totally would never have expected????
