    The longer cables for sure will have a higher voltage drop than shorter cables. The formula is (Resistance of wire) X (Amps) Most charts you will find show resistance per 1000 feet . For example say your power cables are 12 AWG Copper 10 feet long and the rig pulls 10 Amps the equation would be, E or Voltage = 0.015880 X 10A. E = .1588. Now to calculate Power, P= I(Amps) X E(Voltage). P(Watts) = 10A X .1588. Total lost in this particular example is 1.588 Watts. A 3 foot cable under the same conditions would yield a loss of 0.5 Watts. Now if you replace 20 cables the total difference in wattage would theoretically be around 22 watts

    Well done! Excelent job my friend. Now that you have all Octominers concentraded, you could construct a kind of a funnel to concentrate the air behind the shelf, so you wont leave the air spread in your room and your exhaust fan will pull out all the hot air flow. I know that this should be a project and a challenge hehehe.

    Looks nice! You're going to need an equal amount of (preferably filtered) fresh (outside) intake air to allow your exhaust to function optimally, otherwise you will run into static pressure issues and cooling problems.

    • @lapurta22
      @lapurta22 2 года назад

      If that isn't filtered then you will be blowing hectacres of dirt out of each rig every 6 months

    Love all your vids, one thing you need to try: cool air in is better than warm air out , try 2 tests , first as you are then turn the wall fan the other way round blowing air in and the cases. The hot air has to go somewhere so have internal door open and a window.

  • @TheTravelersTravels

    At 240v, the small difference in cable length shouldn't make any difference, but I'm with you on the OCD...me too🤣

  • @tfarchive1
    @tfarchive1 2 года назад

    If you zip tie the switch to under the shelf you could run each cable through the squares in the shelf then you could hide everything under the octominers. Need red zip ties of course. As a temporary air flow trick you could collapse two of your tables and put them on each side, that would help direct the air to the fan.

  • @fusionsvt00
    @fusionsvt00 2 года назад +2

    Every foot of cable affects your output rating. If you run a 50ft 10/2 romex, on a 30amp plug and breaker ur good. But if u add a 10 ft cable to each rig , ur real total is 60 ft and now past ur 10/2 amp limit. So yes, get the shorter cables

    The length would have to be very long, hundreds of feet and still the difference would be very small. You would save more by unplugging all of the RGB lights on the cards.

    Why not drop the cables through the open grid shelves instead of going behind the red main part of shelves? I think it would look cleaner.

  • @TechManTY.
    @TechManTY. 2 года назад +2

    I should have drop shipped you a trendnet power line kit. Didn't realize you were still wasting money on hotspots. They just work! You can use the pool stick holder for your cables. They are like 10 bucks and would hold cables nearly and individually.

  • @aklidevlop

    Yes there's a difference between the resistance of long and short cable but in this case I don't think it's measurable

    • @dusankamenov10
      @dusankamenov10 2 года назад +1

      negligible for alternate current

    • @AnnaVannieuwenhuyse
      @AnnaVannieuwenhuyse 2 года назад

      It actually is! And the effect of it is larger when there's more current running through it. That's both because of ohms law basics, as well as thermodynamics, defining the effect heat has on a physical substance - the metal of the cable's wires' inner conductors in this case.

    I have two questions:
    1 - How noisy is that? one just 1 is it really noisy?
    2 - Do Octominer comes with all the graphic cards installed or its just an empty shell?
    Great great setup!

  • @forktailedd3vil82
    @forktailedd3vil82 2 года назад

    A trick for the cable combs until you get some is use zip ties. Use a larger one around the outside and then smaller between the wires wrapped around the large zip tie to separate the wires. It'll also train them and make using a cable comb easier when the time comes if you get them.

  • @Arek_R.
    @Arek_R. 2 года назад

    Regarding the mains cable resistance, yes longer cable is more resistance and so more losses.
    But it will be around 0.5W for each 1000W of load per 2ft so practically nothing.
    I'm just gussing it all but if you give me cable gauge and load in amps I can calculate it for you exactly.

    I know the desire for clean cabling and your need for it looking good. Taking pride in your work is what we should all strive for. But you can save yourself some money and just zip tie those power cables up. At the distance your dealing with and as long as those are all 15-20amp 14awg or better you won't have issues Just keep your lengths and zip tie them to the rack. ( get some red zipties :-) ) ..
