Uhm, im a gamer and a miner with a rig, miners didn't effect the shortage as much as you think. People were picking up gpus with bots as soon as they could and resaling for lots more to gamers and miners. Anyways, proof of stake does not mean mining will die, theres other coins out there besides just Ethereum. Have a good day, also most people are still profitable including me.

I have been mining with my 5 card RX580 rig for about 20 months now. Turned it off last week. Was barely making the enough to cover the electrical. It's been a good ride.

@@chrisbagnell Nor do I. They've been saying they're going to drop the limit to 1 again forever now, but haven't in a long time that I know of. It's still cheaper to do 12-GPU open air rigs in the meantime.

Only taken 2 cards off-line so far. Vega 64 that was in its own rig, and a Gigabyte 1060 6GB that was over heating. Going to have to re-pad it before putting it back in play.
Even in the height of prices I couldn't justify running a 580 over any RTX card. This is long overdue.
All the coins mined from last many months were not profitable after all. IT's a bad news for us.
im only here for the day that mining goes to proof of stake and you have to turn off ALL your miners.
RP i’d be glad to babysit any of those profitable GPUs you’ve have laying around. I shut down two rigs totaling 24 - 1060 GPUs. Still running other rigs profitability thinning out. 1864 MHs. 1660 supers, 3060s, and ti, 3070’s and ti, 3090s.
I have been swapping cards out also and getting more efficient. Currently looking to unload a rig or two to get more dense to manage heat. I don’t even look at profitability because of how sad I would get. I just keep mining on and working on my farm. Good to see you still grinding away at it.

At this moment, miners with Electricity in the 10cnt are almost all into losses. If you are paying some kind of rental + adding more fans to exhaust air outside, you are in more losses.
And there is a chance that this situation goes on and on. Mining died earlier than expected.

Fun fact, p104-100s are better(currently more profitable) on Etc than Eth because of the dag size. One can get 40-41mhs on Etc vs 32mhs on Eth for the same power draw.
For beginner miners, I highly recommend Utopia ecosystem. You won't need to spend money on equipment, all you need is a PC.

I'm just mining on whatever I have regardless of profitability and banking on the prices going up in the future. It is only unprofitable if you sell when it's unprofitable. I'm small enough to be able to eat the electric bill without selling.
Hey, USA ...My opinion is that you should have ditched the rx580's and GTX1060's a long time ago. I don't see how you can profit using them, I ditched mine, they nearly burnt my house down.
I could use some 580 for computing aplications unrelated to bitcoin mining. Even tho it is sad to see them go in terms of mining, this makes them usable for other applications.
You will be happy to find heaps of Polaris cards sub 100$ again soon

I could not even afford 1 3080 or 3090 as a disabled vet I have 2 1660 supers. I'm just starting out because this inflation is killing me on a fixed income
I started with a single 3060 Ti last summer. Currently at 3gpus. Profits are way down from what they were then so growth has slowed way down, but with patience we’ll grow. Just remember everyone here probably started with one or two gpus, and a lot of them started in the last bear market. I’m betting that if we stick with it through the rough market then when the next bull run comes we’ll be in a great place to expand our farms and grow.

Don't be greedy, you enjoyed your profit, now let some else also have fun with them at a reasonable price. Your turn will come again next bull run, by then those cards will be completely obsolete.
i turned off mine a few days ago, will be keeping only a few for self usage.
I run my 1060s at 72 watts and get average 20 MH/s with 280 kH/W efficiency as per Trex. Don't dump the 1060s yet!

Don't say you do not have friends buddy. That is a lie. And no angst buddy, if you have the hardware to stay profitable and running. You bought it fair and square. So put them to work buddy.
Obviously you have lot of frames and base systems on the floor. Why wouldn't you run them all? You're only using about 40amps. If I had the hardware and the space, I would make sure I had the power runs to run them. Do you do your own electrical? If so, it would probably be better to run new hard runs so that you could shorten those extension cables to your octaminers.
If one has a choice, no Polaris cards should be ran. Sad, but true.

I want to get into mining badly, but the grid cost of electricity is roughly 0,25€/kwh. Now some contracts are even 0,50/0,60€

red panda, those 5700 mechs have terrible cooling im sure you know that but a little tip from me that ive learned with them that drops temps dramatically is put thermal paste between the new pads that you fit on the vram side and the heatsink side, use 1mm washers under the 4 retention screws and make sure the pads are long that cover the vram and the gaps between them

Octominer should lower their horrendous price to like $600 + free shipping. Make no sense buying expensive equipment during this market. Even gpus have come down
Makes sense replacing them if you have the cards to replace them with, if not its best to keep using them, as long as you can afford the electrical cost then you can count the electrical cost as an investment into crypto (better to automatically invest small amounts over time without emotions being able to influence it), that's why I'm still using a 570 8gb with my 6600xt on my small 2 card mining rig. Looking to get as much ravencoin as I can during this accumulation time.
1060 still just about break even for ETH at 16 cent / kwr power at around 23mhs. Just checked. So maybe for spec mining?
with such low power you should be ok pay the bills off pocket and wait for ETH price to climb back up
just sell it all and reload on the next run. Buy and RUn in cycles. Do not keep old rigs. You are suppose to sell your cards 1-2 months before they tank. We all knew June/july would be bad for crypto because of the ETH status. I sold all 50 rigs in 2018... restocked in 2020... and sold everything again 2 months ago at peak price... You stuff that money on the coins on the swing... ride it up again... and repeat. Why are you keeping all that garbage... 1060s? WTF... sigh.
Next cycle I am done with gpus... ASIC BTC miners Liquid cooled. Anything else is a waste of time and effort.

I am running my 15x RX580 8GB cards on my night rates (0.06 USD / kwh.) They are very unprofitable on my day rates (0.19 USD / kwh). I have a script running that monitors the live profitability and will shutdown any of my rigs that go unprofitable for 15 minutes. Or when the day power rates kick in... At least my power bill is going to be much cheaper this month.
My plan is use my night rates to stay competitive hopefully long term. Also selling the oldest cards, RX580s for newer efficient cards.
