Yeah this is a tough one. As a tiny miner I decided to buy two to convert my open air rigs.
    Reasoning
    - I live where it’s hot so having high airflow is critical. Was already considering building some type of ducted design.
    - I have almost no time to hack and play with rigs cooling and customer fan solutions. If rigs go down or have issues I’ll be down for a few days. The thought here is that this will be a lot more reliable.
    - I have limited space and a grow tent for the cooling that I need is large so this will allow me to gain space back.
    - Current components I have in each open air rig will sell for at least $400 so the offset for this upgrade is about $500 per rig after shipping and fees.
But RPM thanks for this video. I have been really going back and forth on this for weeks and it really comes down to your individual use case.

Octominer is good for a brand new rig build, but if I already have the open air rig, changing to Octominer will be a double cost for all the components, I would not go for it.

Hmm. I've got 5 rigs, 3 regular semi-open air cases and 2 4U server cases. 17 GPUs total (All low end, I'm cheap, lol.), if I include my work computer, which just has 1, so I'm definitely a small-time miner, but not quite a beginner. I use NiceHash and 110V power... Octominer only specifies the power required on the X12, and doesn't give you the option to switch out power supplies with this MOQ update. So... immediately, I'd have to reflash the OS to NiceHash OS, and if the rig happens to require 240V, then I need to update my power situation to make it work which is more money spent.
I love the idea of all-in-one motherboards. They weren't out yet when I built my rigs. I do want to redo my rigs though... with the semi-open air cases, I can only put 3 GPUs on there max before they get too hot. 2 of them only have 2 GPUs even though they can handle more. I'd put more into the server cases, but I don't think the fans are strong enough to move the air, plus it's a bit backwards in that the GPUs blow out the front, and the case fans blow in from the front, so it's kind of a mess at the moment. Sigh. Maybe one day I'll grow up and have a nice mining setup like you do, RedPandaMining. lol.

The base price isn’t horrible, but with shipping it’s a no go. Practically speaking, $1k is just too much for a case. They have a ton of features and look great, but I can get the same results with a $600 prebuilt case on Amazon/eBay. If you could get them for $700 it would be worth it.

for me I went with the octo is a LOT of the "other" cases use an ATX style "mining PSU" that is likely not replicable if it dies VS the "standard" server PSU that can be sourced from places OTHER then Octominer if needed and the environmental sensors to see the temps in the mining location

He didn’t usually buy the most premium of every product but he usually bought higher end products that he knew were purpose built and built well for whatever project or activity he was doing. Never having to hassle with subpar equipment, wires, connections, gaskets, engines, vehicles and having everything just work the first time is something I value so the little bit of extra cost is many times worth the price. Thanks for your Octominer Case thouhgts! It made sense for me to get an Octominer. I have 7 video cards mining in 4 differnt computers. The total power draw for the 4 computers is about 1800 watts at the wall. I priced building an open air rig it would have been almost as much as buying an Octominer. The mining motherboard prices are very high when I prced the components for building an open air rig. From watching your videos and others switching to Octominer would reduce my power at least 800 watts.
I have 2- RTX 3060 TI's LHR, 1- RTX 2070, 1 GTX 1660 Super, 1-RTX 3080TI LHR, 1-RX 6900XT, and a RTX 3090. Most likley I'll keep the 3090 in my gaming computer. I'm thinking about getting RTX 3070 or TI for the last two slots in the Octominer.

Their power source accepting 110v or 240 and do 750w either way is nice. I have some cases running with 6x 3090's with a 2080S thrown in. The 3000w power supply doesn't want any more on it for 80%. I am getting some Octominer X12 to run 3060ti's and 3070ti's in. Octominer is worlds better than anything else I've tried, I can't recommend it enough. With the eth merger, any sense to spend on anything to mine it, just doesn't exist anymore, everything will crash hard, starting with gpu prices and then everything with it and in this case even these server cases will crash a lot too. So no point in buying anything right now, wait at least 1 year after the crash then you can buy things again bits by bits, patience is key here, don't rush and more importantly, do not mine at loss.

Hey Max, the reason why we have a MOQ of 20, this is standard at all times, was because we let you know that mail forwarding takes extra work for our team to create a custom order and arrange the delivery order. We provided this information to you and explained why.

But if I was buying those to mine I should be duck taped to the double yellow lines in street. Just opinion but great video.

Got 5 of the Ultra 8 Plus cases a few months ago because of your interview with the Octominer guys and they are full of RTX 3070’s Founder Edition cards. Only problem was I hit the 80% electrical rule with 38 cards so had to stop buying cards ☹️. Love the cases and my old open air frames are sitting in the garage used as tables for water bottles. Other equipment sold on eBay. Only issue I had were the folks who handle packing are hard on the the cases (other folks commented on this issue as well.) Of the 5 cases, one case had been dropped and bent the power supply cage and bent the corner of the server frame. Was not shipping that caused the problem, box was in good shape. Contacted Octominer but they were not excited about exchanging so I used some metal tools and reshaped the damage, works just fine now. Bottom line, yeah go ahead and buy them, you will be happy. Oh one suggestion, Amazon has some large round clear silicone door bumpers that will stick on the bottom of the server cases. Allows some air to move under the case and if you stack, prevents scratching.

You forgot to mention one other drawback. Most 3090Ti cards (like the EVGA FTW3) won't fit. The fan shroud is way too thick. Then again, you violate the 80% rule because 450W x 8 = 3600W anyway.
Yes, I'm sort of half joking here and there's not a whole lot of people who are going out and dropping over 18 grand on 8 3090Ti's right now, but 4000 series are reportedly even worse in terms of how power hungry they can be with the high end possibly pulling 600W on stuff like Ravencoin.
We do know 3090Ti's pull every bit of their 450W power limit, for sure. So, my guess is Octominer will be doing some retooling in the fall to accommodate 4000 series. But, the current stock should be fine for current generation (mainly 3080 and 3090 non-Ti's as you say).

RPM, fantastic review. I'd really like to buy one this go round but just don't have the room for it right now (power and space). Maybe next year. Quick question. I see in all your videos you are using yellow and black power/pcie cables. Those cables are also included in many of the powersupplies that you use. Can you tell me where you get your extra yellow and black cables? I've been looking at Amazon at the 18 ga but am a little worried about frying my gear. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Teach me oh Jedi Miner Master.

    • @magiclucky5152
      @magiclucky5152 2 года назад

Parallel Miner. They ship to the US and Canada only, I believe. Very reputable. Reasonable prices. Quality is great. I had 1 power supply fail on me, out of all the stuff I've bought. It failed within the first couple of weeks of operation and, when I emailed them, they responded quickly and sent me a replacement right away. Never had a single issue with any of their cables or splitters. Depending on vendors on Amazon, you are right to be skeptical, by the way. There are reports of some miners cutting open cables labelled as a certain gauge, but finding the supplier cut cost by using thicker insulation to make it appear as a bigger gauge than it actually was. That's a potential fire hazard.

He is using forced PO state. You can lower mem clocks by about 400mhz for the same hashrate, and possibly a bit less power and better stability. Wouldn't push beyond 2200 though, as it gets some invalid shares as you can tell.
