Maybe I can help with some (insider) information about complaints about the harsh overdrive tone:
The REC OUT / Headphone is filtered by an analog “EQ” circuit - no IR - no AD-DA conversion. Thomas shows a diagram in one of the last episodes of his “Academy Of Tone”. It shows the frequency range (impedance curve) of his 4x12 compared with the REC OUT sim. The course of both curves are pretty close, but as he explains, there is no way to make all the spikes and peaks with just a few analog filters.
It gets better as soon you connect a speaker to the amp as reactive load. The REC OUT replicates the speaker interaction of the output stage after the Nanotube power amp.
The output offers a wider frequency range that you need and you should cut out the frequencies you don’t need. If using the headphone, set the EQ of the amp, if using a recording setup or PA, use the channel EQ.
In any case the output can not replace an IR loader, therefore you should use the BluBox. These IRs represent the vintage amp and speaker collection of Thomas Blug and can be heard in every episode of his guitar talk … 😃
PS: I am not paid by the company but I am a friend of Thomas and know this unit from the first idea on, I played with the first prototype … 🎸🔊_/ 😃 HooVi
Fellow Amp1 user here - you make that amp sound amazing - I call the 3 channels of distortion Santana, GnR, and Vai....
Amp1 when going direct for recording really benefit from either (a) Blugbox/Torpedo Cab IR fed from the speaker out (not Rec Out) or (b) DI box with 20Db pad on the speaker output to make line level into DAW, then IR loader plug in (Wall of Sound/Red Wirez) on channel in DAW.
Also Amp 1’s pre-amp in 4CM as block in HX Stomp, with HX for effects and dual Cab sims covers a lot of ground! 👍👍👍
It sounds great David!! Now I want to get one. I like that it sounds great, it’s simple, no updates, it’s a 100 watt real amp, no updates needed or anything like that.
This is exactly what i have on my board :-) + a TC Nova drive and a Wahwah. Everything i need.
Sounds killer man! Cheers 🍻
A few years ago, I purchase the eventide plug-in for recording, and I must concur, these are the most AWESOME Lush-sounds ever!
BTW1: @David : cool ascending luck at 2:52...
BTW2: now visiting South of France (Carcassonne / Perpignan)... A little though for you!
David, I think you should do a version of being a live musician. Sold my EVH because I'm tired of busting my ass carrying it. This sounds just as good and it weight's 2 pounds. Metal guys AMP1 Iridium Edition is the model you want much hotter tone.
Recently bought a new Iridium on reverb. after two hours of work it went out and no longer showed signs of life.
Nice tone….I have both, my H9 is my Swiss Army knife!
Thanks 4 share
didnt like the distorted sound for some reason...cleans sound awesome though
David… you need to enable an Impulse Response in your recording software. This is just the distorted DI signal. There is no cabinet. Pulse IR loader is free. 😬
The cab is on, it’s built in. But only 1 option. They are coming up with the x version though with much more in terms of Irs
@@Wallimann - Interesting. Then it’s not a decent sounding IR. Not to me anyway. The stock ones usually aren’t the best. 🤔
@@Burnt_Gerbil the "cab" in the amp1 is not an IR, just an EQ thing.
@@vjau75 - That makes sense. It’s meant for headphones when practicing instead of as an IR.
@@Wallimann Might be in over your head David. Who can disagree with a burnt gerbil anyway?
David, have you ever tried the Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 Floor? Maybe compared to the Amp1? I am interested in your opinion.
Thomas Blug is the inventor of the Amp 1 Blu guitar amp that David is using. He worked for Hughes & Kettner for years. Just wanted to bring you up to speed he was their main amp designer.
Wow!!
Great tones! how would I run that set up through a cabinet? I think there is powered cabs? or separate power sources? I currently run a Mesa Mark V and 2x12 cab but this sounds crazy good. any assistance would be great...just subscribed...
It's a regular amp - just plug it into your 2x12 cabinet like you would the Mesa. It sounds MUCH better through an actual cab - the recording out sucks. Not worth using at all, imo.
Of I don'have this Money tò buy this think?!
Cool actually... but 649 euros is presently out of my budget... and it's not even available right now in my area.
Nice David! Are you going stereo out?
Hey Nick! Kind of.. The Rec Out of the BluGuitar is mono, but that goes into the Eventide H9 which goes stereo out into my soundcard so that I can take advantage of the stereo delays.
Best tone! ✊ First comment! ✊😂
but you have the fractal audio axe FX what would you ever need other than that
Portability! :)
@@Wallimann Then use an Axe FM3?
ziggy8757 has it right.
I do not like rec out.. clean is ok put od chanel better sam cab or ir cab sims
Tone is subjective of course, but subjectively, this sounds terrible. Taking the paycheck, David???
AMP1 sounds great through some proper speakers , rec out is ok for practice. It does sound harsh and thin but I guess tube amp direct out would sound pretty shit too without speakers or some cab sim. Speakers make a huge chunk of a good guitar tone.
@@TheMemagNeman100% true. Anyone expecting less than a fizzy mess by connecting hifi headphones to the Rec Out doesn’t understand guitar / amp / speaker frequency behaviour. A lifelong valve amp nerd, I just spent a few hours tuning my AMP1 Mercury to be my first pedal amp direct to PA. I used a Sonicake IR (took a while to get used to 9mS latency - like playing into a compressor!) and just needed to roll off the fizz with a gentle slope from about 4KHz. Sounded great. No more visits to Chiropractor too!
That core tone (without the delays/reverb/etc...) is still horrible - ice picky and fizzy, your Axe FX tones are waaay better!
never to be seen again
