  • We're exploring the South Coast of England from Cornwall to Dorset. We take a tour of St. Michael's Mount before heading over to the popular resort town of Salcombe where we encounter boat equipment malfunction. We troubleshoot and repair our windlass before heading off to Weymouth where Travis finds a BMX skatepark and dives in a little too quickly and takes a fall.

    Fixing boat problems matters to the owners. Comes with the territory of ownership. Who else is gonna do it?
    Fixing lacerated kidney and broken bones should be left to the professionals.
    The adventure continues for the crew of Jibsea. Never a dull moment on any given day.
    Note to Steph- keep Travis off the bike, well rested while he recovers.
    Note to Travis- take as much pain medication as humanly possible.

    About a billion years ago I was jamming on my road bike at about 30 mph, stood up to carry my speed up a nice grade and my left crank broke sticking my shoulder into the ground on an uphill at about 30 mph with a sudden stop. Boy, did that hurt. 🙂 It healed, eventually. You are in my prayers.

    Damn brother, you need to get that looked at. I'm a longtime RN and have had my own share of injuries. Joints take a long time to heel so you're going to have to take it easy for awhile. I tore my medial collateral ligament and my medial meniscus in my right knee. Had stem cell treatment in August and I'm still wearing a brace. The brace is the only thing allowing me to still work. I was off for six months. Trying to avoid surgery. At least I'm back on my boat. Trying to do some upgrades to get out there asap. I wish you a speedy recovery.

    Jealous as always! Curious, when the vessel is at anchor and both of you go to shore, do you use any type of anchor alarm app syncing to your phone to get an alert if the boat breaks anchor while you're ashore?

    • @philgray1023
      @philgray1023 Год назад +1

      I must look into that. I know you can have an AIS alert from the Marine Traffic website on a small subscription. I had't thought of that. It is quite sensitive. I have had alerts that my boat has left port, but it was just a wind change. At least it makes you check the position.

    • @tjpenton
      @tjpenton Год назад

      @@philgray1023 my plan would be to have Wi-Fi running while on the hook (Starlink) and keep an iPad on the vessel with any app that offers a anchor alarm. So if the alarm is triggered on the iPad, that will also send a alert to your iPhone, which I would have on me as I go to shore using cellular.

    If you need a Doctor you can sign up to a U.K. Doctors surgery as a visitor. U.K. Doctors are not set up to take payments and you may find that the U.K. has a reciprocal agreement with your home country so medical treatment may be free. If not hopefully you have medical insurance. The U.K. NHS is extremely cheap by US standards. But it is often overloaded as the current Government is deliberately under funding it. You would need a “small injuries clinic” or Accident and Emergency department of the local hospital. Be prepared to wait several hours to be seen.

    Sorry Travis but when your sailing in your situation with just 2 of you around the Atlantic you need to be keeping yourself away from unecessary extra risks. Given all the injuries you say you have acquired over time from that type of riding activity, common sense should now say its time to hang up the bike and declare your not invincible and avoid over risk taking. When your in some weather and you need to reef down or go into survival mode some of those old and new injuries may come back to haunt you. You both have a positive attitude about the recent crash but time to let that bike trick stunt stuff go mate.

    That's all good and all, but can she get you emergency care all on her own? I've watched you do some stuff in not so convenient locations... Also just because nothing has broken in 6 months it still corrodes. It's call preventative maintenance, tons of channels, where all they do is sail, then don't understand why everything is breaking.

    • @SailingJibsea
      @SailingJibsea  Год назад +1

      Thanks for your concern but she/I am a big girl and it’s all good. All we do is practice preventative maintenance. That’s what upkeeping a boat you live and use 24/7 is all about. We run a tight ship and we’re thankful our due diligence has allowed us to cruise without constantly having projects but boats are boats and with the amount of full time cruising we do, things eventually need replacing or in this case, a good ol smack sometimes
