- We go through Neptunes Staircase with our monohull sailboat on our way out of the Caledonian Canal in Corpach Scotland. Navigating through a narrow area with unfavourable current, wind and weather, our worst fear becomes reality in our floating home. We think quick and act fast to bring ourselves and our sailboat to safety.

Lesson learned. Keep the fuel tank(s) near-full. Carry two full Jerry cans. Keep fuel filters clean and fit the transparent filters where you can see the fuel quality. Try to stay upwind on a weather shore if you can. I know that region of the Corran Narrows. I would not leave your ship unattended there in 60 ft at anchor. Send one man ashore for the fuel, not the entire crew. If she drags, you will always have a man on board. Fair winds.
Way to improvise guys!
Groovy video again
Good experience.
Brilliant
Well handled
You kept your heads and didn’t panic. Well done 👍
so beautiful there! happy your all good!
Luckily you have experience with towing large boats with your dinghy 😂.
🤣🤣 we’ll never forget good ol st martin!
Well done! E dies not mean E! Georgeous place!
Got that right!😂
You two are such an amazing team. Alls well 🤘🏻❤️🇨🇦❤️👍🏻
Thanks Steve, appreciate it 😊
Make it work with what you've got kids!
What we do!
Aww you look so scared, yet you managed so perfectly well. :) Story to tell over beers
DITTO, an amazing team. I had no doubt you would figure out a quick, albeit temp solution. You may have begun as novices........now hardened professionals ‼️💪🏻✨🌊💨⛵️🏝🌞✨
Thanks Richard!
Fabulous scenery and superb editing on this very stressful situation. You two are marvelous together and hope to view many more episodes. Thanks!
Thank you, David! We appreciate that
W O W . . . Good job + some Luck 🍀
Just another day in Paradise…!!! 😎👍👌👏🥳
Good Job! Hip towing with your dinghy is a skill. Making this Canadian proud.🍁
Thanks Ken! We’ve had some practice 🤣🇨🇦
.... got me thinking ..... would it work to have a setup for situations like this where one could use a jerry can or something else with a smaller diameter to feed right into the engine fuel supply line with a valve to select which line feeds the engine ... maybe have it so the jerry can would act like a day tank works on some boats ..... some fantastic scenery you showed while traversing the canal .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Creative thinking, thanks as always Peter
@@SailingJibsea ..... yes creative thinking, which the two of you are masters at ... thx for the reply ... make it an exponential week .....
Beautiful place to learn a lesson on the cheap. No damage, not lost a sea, and not in a storm, That's a win. lol
We’d say so!
👍👍👍
I like how your vlogs are open and honest about the good and the bad. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures.
Always! Thanks for watching 😊
I love this channel and following this wonderful couple and team!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much!
Great teamwork, the way you guys started off bickering you guys really turned it around, every video is impressive how you work together
Thanks a ton!
Some times you make your own good luck, stay safe.
when things get wild, it's hard not to imagine the worst. Love you guys. Rockin ❤️ Roll
Quick thinking guys! Hip tow is something everyone should practice and be able to implement for their vessel just in case, awesome job guys!!!!!! team work makes the dream work😊
The first time was a challenge, this time though it wasn’t fun, was a bit of deja vu 😂 thanks as always marko!!
Good save, part of the adventure, stay bundled up, stay safe
“What did we learn” Well said Steph. After every sail we’re the same and say this to each other. It makes us better at what we do & love. Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been sailing.
Thanks for filming while it all went down and sharing what can happen out there. Not an easy task. So glad the conditions & location were in your favour. And wow what a picturesque location…stunning!!! 👍 Great work🥂
So true! No yep days are ever the same
Never let a diesel get below 1/4 tank, 1/2 is better. Always carry at least 1/2 spare. Being calmed, with no engine can be a real problem, inshore or not. You people are fortunate, pray it holds.
Great video guys, very exiting, loved it. Cheers and thanks for chearing
Thanks Jacques!
I can breathe now! Well done you two.
You got my blood pumpin’ this epi 😂 glad it worked out!
Oh us too!😆😅
It's fun to travel along with you two. Gorgeous scenery overall, we all need a little luck now and then --lol.
Happy to share. A little🍀 doesn’t hurt does it!
So many postcard quality scenes. What a beautiful part of the world. First time seeing this pass through Scotland. Great job you two.
Glad you enjoyed it. We’ve explored a bit of Scotland in our prior videos as well. Loved it there
Glad it all worked out 😊
Us too!
It’s good to see your improvisation under pressure. It’s also important your delay in the loch, then gave you a windy day where it proved valuable to have an alternate form of power. The wind !
Until the wind died. Lol
Respect to you both really love your adventure.. Kept up it will make your life and have a reason one day.
Appreciate that!
well done guys, another experience in the bag, and the scenery wow. keep smiling and giving each other hugs, you are giving so many people a feel good day, thanks and take care. B @ B in nz.
Each day is something new! We most certainly will. Thanks again Brian 😊
You where very lucky, around Scotland weather changes so quickly. I was out in the Forth fishing wind picked, started blowing about 30 knots. Not forecast in a little 12 foot boat with a small seagull engine. Blew us half way a cross the Forth look up after getting wets on 100 yards of one of the islands. I was very lucky also.
It certainly does. Yikes that doesn’t sound fun but glad to hear you had luck on your side
Good work🏋🏻♀️🤟🏋🏻♀️
Thank you!
never trust a boat fuel gauge in any boat - a few might be ok but never trust it
If you find yourself in the kittie litter again around the UK coastline tell the HM Coastguard on VHF 16 or better still the red button (DSC distress) then voice call on CH 16. They will coordinate any help you may need up to and including an RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard helicopters. Believe it or not all free of charge.
I don't know exactly where all this went south but there is an RNLI station in Islay and Oban. If they come to you it's nonjudgemental they accept Sh*t happens it also doesn't matter what flag your vessel is.
It's not a bad idea to find out which coastguard area you are in believe it or not where you were you would be talking to MRCC Belfast Coastguard (Bangor) in Northern Ireland. The signal from your VHF radio gets amplified and bounced around the UK via repeater towers dotted around the country.
As far as getting help if you are in trouble on the water around the UK you are probably in the safest places in the world but only if you call them and tell them what's wrong.
In your situation, I am in absolutely no doubt Belfast Coastguard would have launched the nearest lifeboat to assist you 24/7.
Same boat, same thing. I ran out, and the gauge said we had a ⅙ of a tank too.🤦♂️
Oh man! Did you have good conditions to sail ?
@Sailing Jibsea we ran out just as we were coming nto our marina. A buddy boat had a jerry can. He was about a half hour behind us, so it was a big deal. We have the gauge marked now.
Tricky situation and NO LIFEJACKETS! I hope you learned a lesson.
Hey, get some really long oars and row your way there. 🙂 You'll be find.
🤣
I've enjoyed following your adventures. My wife and I own 41ft Jeanneau and we'll be sailing full time when I retire. How did you solve the shore power differences between the US and Europe (110vac to 220vac)? I wish you both safe travels while you continue to live your dreams!
Fantastic! Very exciting. Stay tuned, we share in our next episode
I bet you will not cut your diesel reserves so close next time.
What did we learn.....
The question really should be....who the heck runs out of fuel
Us! Clearly by the video, us.
@@SailingJibsea 🤣It may not have been fun for you but you sure made it entertaining for us. Cheers guys
😃👍👍👍❤
👍🏻🤙🏼🤙🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Why did you not fill up at corpach?
That was the plan but it was not available off season
You guys have grown into a heck of a good sailing team. 👍👏Hope there was not too much yelling and cussing off camera.
Thanks Greg! And LOL ya none of that 🫣
Call TowUS
How long til they get to Scotland?
Thats not stress.......Wait till you run aground on a reef, or the boat starts to sink, or you get hit by lightning without a ground, or you are boarded by pirates, or someone falls overboard at night while you are drunk, or an Orca starts chewing on your rudder, or some stupid motorboat broadside you, or a big fire breaks out in the galley.........That's enough for now.
Stressful situations come in varying degrees. We’re glad the outcome of ours didn’t end in a detriment to our safety or our boat’s
@@SailingJibsea I love you guys.
What drama? We don't sail in tents in Scotland. You should never be that short of fuel especially if you're no good at sailing.
Lol,ok bud
I know it gets hairy sometimes, and I sure don't mean any offense. But how or more so WHY did you guys allow your fuel to get so low? I love watching your adventures and I think you two work together REALLY great! Fair winds and prayers to you both😊
Thanks Jason! Where we planned on refueling initially, didn’t have fuel available
@Sailing Jibsea Makes perfect sense.
No life jackets or safety gear at all? You guys are scary to watch.
